So, yes - I need to know how to brick my phone beyond repair please....
"Why !?" I hear you ask....
Imagine the situation: Some b*st*rd has stolen your phone . You are never going to see it again... ever... absolutely zero chance of getting it back...
If you had the option to brick it so no one could sell or use it, would you?
Yes, of course you would!!
It's possible to remotely execute any BusyBox/Terminal Command using the application Tasker and I want to know which one would do the most damage!?
Please let me know! "How do I totally brick my phone?"
load a corrupted radio file
ohhh, sorry to hear that. I had the perfect solution if you still had the phone. But um yea I don't take out my phone near any friends. My brother got his vibrant stolen only after 2 weeks.
Didn't mean to mislead! My phone hasn't actually been stolen! But I'm working on security profiles and need to know what the final command should be to end its life....
Can you flash a radio from the Terminal Emulator?

This is what I did and I actually got Verizon to give me a re-furb. What it does is bring you to the htc inc white screen then nothing else. Use root explorer go into systems/fonts and change the name on one of the droidsans.ttf files. I think I totally erased the files but changing them should cause the phone to be totally [email protected]#$. I hope this messes up your phone. Lol

Further to the above, does anyone know if it's possible to disable entering recovery by deleting certain system files?

Flash a stock recovery image to disable flashable recovery. Also renaming a file doesn't make the phone broken, it just doesn't allow it to boot.

Thanks - I need it to boot - just don't want someone else to be able to wipe and/or flash a custom ROM
I need to read up if there's a way to flash a recovery image from the Terminal...

To flash a recovery image from TE use this if your ROM supports it: flash_image recovery /sdcard/(name of recovery)
An example for me is: flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-heroc.img

That's brilliant thank you. Do you know if that can be reverted by flashing the custom recovery image again? Or will I lose the ability to do that once I flash back to stock?
Sorry for the questions, this stuff confuses me...

As long as you're on a custom ROM that supports flash_image you can flash a recovery image through TE.

Do you have the information to know whether it's truly been stolen yet? I'd make sure that it's really been stolen and you, for sure, wouldn't get it back before attempting something like this. I definitely wouldn't want to brick my own phone on purpose just to find out I forgot it somewhere...

You shouldn't brick it quite the opposite, the thief should be able to keep using the phone as much as possible but in the mean time the gps should be secretly turned on and photos should be make so you can track the thief or if that fails publish his info and name and shame him

You are absolutely right godutch, that is the main aim of the profiles to keep booting into the OS at every opportunity, even using fake recovering images (as in a photo of the custom recovery screen) for the splash and boot animation that appear to be the device gathering system information - all the time it will actually be booting with the launcher, notification bar and lock screen etc disabled so not to give it away - once there the priority is to get a GPS fix
However, there will come a point when you've not heard a peep from the device in days and perhaps your insurance (if you have it) have already paid out... In which case, some users will want to execute the remote 'self destruct' command, to make sure the phone will never be usable to anyone else....
Edit: Trying to make the thief provide a valid gmail address and forwarding the new number if the SIM is changed are all in there too!
What if thief changes to SIM that has no data plan or does not enter any wifi area?
Need some ideas on where to go next.
*Phone: Samsung Vibe (T959) running Froyo 2.2 stock
*Rooted with Super One Click
*Ran backup with Tit BU
*Ran the 3e fix to get rid of e sig requirement
*Tried to install the Voodoo lagfix and it went through all the "normal" steps including the computer woman talking me through everything and then....
it just keep booting back into Android system recovery <2e>:
Final entry is:

Installing Multi CSC
I've rebooted 10 times..reinstalled packages 10 times and nothing.
Removed Batt, Sim and SD and also tried restarting and reloading packages....still it just boots back to recovery.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
Is your phone a 4g
No it's 3G.
Hm, if you can find a way to mount your internal sdcard, you should flash the update.zip that gives you clockworkmod recovery, then from there, flash the kernel again. (voodoo lagfix)
The market has sgs kernel flasher, any 2.2 modded kernel will give you the proper cwm.

Thanks, yeah but one issue I have is my USB cord is really sketchy and it's a ***** to get it to connect. Otherwise I'd just ODIN to stock JFD and start over.
I finally got it connected to run the 3E fix and thought I was home free since I could just flash ROMS from my SD card going forward. Who knew the first one I tried would sink the ship...LOL!!!

I've also tried multiple PC's with both XP and Win 7 on them.

Stuck on HBOOT 2.11.0000, I have scoured the net trying to find a solution. I was doing the S-off tutorial when my cat knocked my phone off my table as I turned around to get some cheezits really quick. the phone unplugged from the usb and now I cant get my phone to charge, enter fastboot as well as unable to use any adb commands. I desperately need to relock my phone but I cant....
I got the phone working however and flashed 1.6 clean rom just to have something. but I am crippled without the use adb or fast boot. I need a new RUU but I am in between a rock and a hard place on this one, a speedy reply would be greatly appreciated.
Are you in a locked or s-off state? Does the phone charge while in a running state?
s-on, phone doesnt charge at all. everything else works though
ADB While in a recovery?
No charge, no fastboot, usb not recognized
Did 1 Rezound S-0ff real easy, but on a second phone, had exactly same
result as OP.
Except I have no WiFi and no radio, but a pretty screen running rooted
GB.
Since we can't access thru usb, cures aren't going to be easy.
Am experimenting and taking advice from smarter folks to get out of this
spot. Hope you find a cure and post it.
I cannot access ADB in recovery, nor will it boot into fastboot in recovery. its as if the usb port is turned off, i am thinking that if I can flash to a new ruu this will go away. is there anyway to do that at all with a unlocked phone?
so is there nothing I can do about this? what about a golden sd card or trying to push someting through ADB via wireless? I am at a complete loss here

Just to clarify, the commands to "fix" SD mounting was purely due to the new ICS firmware that expects the SD blocks at different points. All the commands that were listed do is format the SD card. That should have nothing to do with your USB though. Also if even while off or on, it still doesn't charge, really sounds like it's just the USB port itself. Maybe it fell and pushed the cord in in a bad way? If that's the case, even a RUU can't help. Your best bet to VZW not noticing (IMO) would be to flash a rooted stock gb rom and then removing the super user app so there's as little chance of them seeing you altered anything.
No USB fastboot connect and No Charge
Have exactly same situation as you. Flashed a MISC.IMG with a Terminal
program from the Market per Con247's suggestion. Phone boots up,
recognizes WiFi, but no charge, no usb, no fastboot. Won't give up yet.
First, some backup on my problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26683314&postcount=4114 (tl;dr: any ROM I flash puts me in a seemingly inescapable boot loop, and rewriting boot.img sadly doesn't seem to help). This is still unresolved, and I think I've tried just about everything... getting pretty desperate there.
To make matters worse, my battery just died. I've heard there's a way to trick it into thinking it's charged so that you can access the bootloader at least temporarily (see: http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/23/editorial-the-dark-side-of-android-hacking -- I'm aware the article only mentions the DROID X, but I thought there must be some way to do this on the EVO 3D as well). Any ideas? I don't really want to have to buy a second battery, especially seeing as I'd have to wait several days for it to arrive - and wouldn't be able to use my phone until then.
Any help with either issue would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks so much!

I guess the first thing we need to know is, is your phone CDMA or GSM?
If you are flashing CDMA roms on a GSM or vise versa, it will never work. Its like putting diesel fuel in a gas engine. It won't run.
You have to flash a rom that is compatible with your phone.
Reckon we start there.

Wanna try 4ext recovery?
your bootloader should say Unlocked and you are probably S-ON. Correct?
In fastboot. When you plug in your USB cable to the computer, it should now say fastbootusb.
If you can get that far, yeah, just flash the newest 4ext Recovery and try to flash your roms through that.
The newest has the ability to flash S-ON with one extra boot that will eliminate the need to flash the boot.img separately.
here is the link for it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560279
***one possible thing I can think of that you may be doing wrong is when you flash the boot.img, it has to be the SAME one from the rom you flash.
anyway use 4ext instead.

Well yes, as the Developer updates the rom, you just use 4ext and reflash it over the top of the old one. Takes about 3 mins.

Did you order another battery?
I just bought a lot of 10 of em from this company:
http://www.dhgate.com/new-li-ion-ph...r-htc/p-ff808081321fe6450132294c18783c3d.html
Should be like a lifetime supply. As long as you don't charge them, the shelf life should be many years.
$38.00 for 10 of them = $3.80 each. Very cheap! Took about 2 weeks to get them.
I was trying to install the Kit Kat ROMS on my MK2 phone using the new patches from these threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2674280
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2720163
I forgot that I was still on Safestrap 1.71, so I clearly am the one that messed this up. They were giving me some kind of error while I was install the patches, so I tried Restoring back to my old backup. It wouldn't boot, so I erased the Rom Slot, reinstalled it, and restored again.
I can't remember if my phone finished restoring, or if I told it to reboot, either way it shut off and I cannot get it to turn back on. The battery was fully charged, and I've been trying to turn it on with/without the battery and the charger.
I still have no idea how to get it to boot back up, so I can get Odin to find it. Fingers crossed that somebody has an idea for me?
So you tried taking the battery out for about 30 seconds. No charger plugged in. Then put the battery back In and boot into Odin mode using the keypress.
Yeah, what's the key press? Definitely possible I'm doing it wrong?

So your screen is black and nothing works? Go ahead and plug your phone via USB into a Windows computer. Open Device Manager and tell me if it recognizes a device being plugged in, and what that device's name is. If you get any action on USB, there's hope.

You're in luck. We'll need an unbrick image. You'll want to download the program win32diskimager, and have a blank SD card. @Surge1223 do you have an unbrick image?

Well I think I have 512mb MK2 debrick.img but this users issue may be a tad more complicated as I believe he was one of the users attempting to upgrade to 4.4.2 with root. So he may require a 4.4.2 NC2 debrick.img depending on which of his bootloaders were written over, (considering its in qhsusb_dload we can assume aboot is toast on his device)
Luckily my bootloaders are on the 4.4.2 NC2 build so I'll make a debrick img and that might help.

Yeah, I was technically on MJ7. I went to NC2. I was way over my head when I was doing this. I'm really lost as to why I was able to restore once, it just got stuck in a boot loop.
I know I used the NC2 to MK2 downgrade patch too. I'm not entirely sure which one I used last. If there's anything else I can do to help, please let me know. Otherwise, thank you so much just for trying.

You can download the debrick.img here debrick.img you may need to ask @ryanbg for directions after that, I believe he has successfully restored his device using a debrick.img in the past.

Is there somewhere I can find mdk debrick.img or can someone give me the rundown on creating my own or link me to directions?
I already had to pay out of pocket for this phone, so yes somebody please give me some instructions on how to do this. Or a link to a forum is fine. I'm usually not an idiot, just want lazy sometimes. I want to be fully aware of what I'm doing with this. I can't stand going back to my old RAZR.

If you're device shows QHSUSB_anything, you typically can do an SD boot. What I need you to do is download that image, format your SD card in an SD card reader directly into the computer, not through your phone. Use Win32DiskImager and write the image file to your SD card. Pop it in your phone, and try turning it on or going to download mode.

Awesome. I don't have a card reader here, though. Think I can just use that program running through my old RAZR as an SD card reader, or just better to go pick up a reader? I could use one anyway, just don't want to wait.

You'll need to use an actual card reader. The phone wouldn't really let you write directly to the card.

Doesn't seem to be working... The phone still isn't turning on with the SD Card in. I plugged it back into the computer; every time I try turning the phone on, it disappears from the Driver Manager for a few seconds but it shows back up.
I can't see anything on the phone change
When I write this image to my SD Card, should it still be seen by my PC? Whenever it Writes Successfully, it disappears from my computer. I can find it in Disk Management, which is good because I can reformat it. However, it makes about 30 different volumes, and most are about 3 MB if that large.
Haven't not done this before, but having created Linux LiveCDs under Windows before this sounds about right. I would imagine the volumes are just a format that Windows doesn't recognize.
