try with all connection ''modes'', also sd have to be disconnected, to use thether.. (may try thether from play store to see if its mayba a rom ''problem'' (..now))

I had the same problem with my ST15i.
i wanted to flash to 4.0.1.A.0.283 and for rooting i had to use DooM Kernel for Last firmware (4.0.A.2.368). your problem is the same.
After Flashing new Firmware, while phone is off, connect it to fastboot mode and run command to flash boot.img (that's all in your link).
when completed, turn on your phone and go to:
Menu > Settings > Sony Ericsson > Connectivity
you can change usb mode to MSC so that Pc and then SuperOneClick will recognize it. (phone doesn't show any icon but pc will recognize)
after rooting via superoneclick you should get back to new firmware Kernel. again via fastboot mode and run flash kernel.sin
when done turn on your phone and it's fixed

Have you installed the drivers for fastboot/flashmode for the Ray? Pc companion only installs ADB drivers, but you need additional ones for fastboot to work. You can find them here on xda or sony bootloader unlock site . Also make sure that usb debug is enabled for rooting with superoneclick (version 1.7 works).

everytime i connect my cellphone to my laptop and i turn it on, my laptop cant detect it, although it says to my cellphone that my usb storage device is on.

Do you have message on your phone after you plag USB? Maybe you have check USB Debugging?
i connect the usb, and it has button that says turn it on. it my phone it says connected, but there are no appearance in my laptop

And USB debugging, is it checked or not? Maybe SD card is the problem. If you have cardreader, you can check the SD card.
did u try reinstall ur sues ? or maybe install rom again

Redownload the kernel and flash it, it may be corrupted somehow.
i format my x10mp using seus, and root it, unlock bootloader and flast naa kernel, bu the way, when i flast naa kernel, usb debuging dont work, but when i use stock kernel, it work.
maybe naa kernel has bugs,

There are hardly any people with this issue, did you redownload the kernel and flash the new copy?
I am on ICS 4.0.4 build 6.1.A.0.452 on my xperia S.
Rooting guide for 4.0.4(locked bootloader) is available by doomlord...But one of the requirement says phone to be in USB Msc connection mode. my question is ,everyone says to select MSC mode in settings-xperia-connectivity.
But its not there in my phone!!simply no option at all!!
there is an option of mount usb in settings-storge,but that is always grayed out
wether connected or not

haha, never seen any option in this regardless of MTP only. Going to Themes & apps thread and you'll see a thread " Sdcard mounter for ics "

Yes ,actually doomlord posted a tool for getting USB mass transfer mode when we(xperia s)were in Gingerbread.But people say ICS already have it!!I dont see it anywhere in settings.

but actually you need root access to install that app & on other hand you need Msc mode enabled to "root" stock ICS!!
So what should be done?

Hey, no need msc mode enabled to root. What you need is install cwm & install su.zip in cwm

I'm new here. I am now also searching how to root my xperia neo with ics in mtp mode. It seems to me that you also need root to install cwm.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

use debugging mode ON and usb tethring ON. this both will help you to use your device for rooting processs...

same problem to me.xperia p not connect pc charging only.usb debugging enabled.it not shows msc mode.mtp only

try to install the flashtool driver
try to reboot (somehow I usually pull out the battery) and return into flashmode
I've been face a same problem before. You should install the driver from sony bootloader unlock site. And also try to change ur usb port

Exactly. Normally that problem happens when eigher :
a)Using a malfunctioning USB Cable.
b)Using a Front-USB (the USB from the front of the computer and not the ones from the back)
c)Using a VM (Virtual Machine to flash)
Solutions ? :
1)Reinstall Driver
2)Try connecting the phone to a USB port thats behind the PC.
3)Try another USB Cable.

Have you installed flashtool + flashtool drivers and pc companion. Because they bring the drivers. Are you using linux or Windows? Are you on stock rom, ics or gb?
Do you have unlocked bl? What Kernel are you using?
Same started to happend here. At first I wasn't able to acess MTP, but now MTP is working but MSC is not working. I tried in Windows 7 and Linux Mint but when connected it just showing as drive but not mounted (the icon is faded).
