Galaxy S4 - HTC Rezound

What do ya'll think about the Galaxy S4? I'm stuck on Verizon, so the htc One is out of question. Is the S4 one of the best phones on verizon?

Yes, the GS4 is clearly the best phone on Verizon right now, but if you want to wait, there will be a lot of new phones coming out later this year.
The GS4 and HTC One are both rumored to get an incremental update from the Snapdragon 600 to the 800 chip.
Also, a Verizon-branded version of the HTC One will be coming in late Summer or early fall.
There's also the Moto X and the rumored Nexus 5 that will be coming out in the Fall, so theres a lot to look forward to.
edit: Also the Note III is rumored to come out sometime this year as well, if you're into phablets

Take a look at the Note 2. It's not as advanced as s4, but you can hardly find someone who isn't happy with the note 2 and there are tons of companies about s4. I'm also looking forward to upgrade but note 2 won't let me go for s4. It also has better life than s4. Afterwords, I'm not trying to say that s4 is a bad smartphone though.

My brother is eager to buy my Rezound off me, and I'm mulling over what to get to replace it. Ultimately I think I'm waiting it out until the One is out on Verizon and has a decent secondhand market; I've had nothing but good experiences with HTCs, so I see no reason to jump to Samsungs.

Droid Life supposedly has a release notice from a Verizon internal memo, August 1 release date for the HTC One.
http://www.droid-life.com/2013/07/1...ust-1-launch-of-htc-one-august-23-for-moto-x/
If that isn't an option, I'll be honest, the Samsung GS4 is an amazing phone, I don't think you would regret it later.

Is the HTC One suppose to be better than the S4? And the one coming to Verizon, do ya'll know if it will be the 600 or the 800 chip? Is there a huge difference in the two chips? I played with the S4 for a few minutes in Best Buy today. It's so smooth and during quadrant gets consistent 60 fps in almost all the tests but the last one. I know quadrant doesn't mean much, just an example. I couldn't imagine it being much faster. lol. I like the Note, but its pretty big. Is there a lot of bad with the S4 vs One?

Its all speculation at this point, but yea the 800 chip does offer slightly better performance. Some people have speculated that the VZ version of the HTC Once will have the 800 chip but we can't know for sure.

I upgraded to S4, it is better than the Rezound in every way except for the screen, I personally hate that blue tint on Super AMOLED screen, but I definitely think S4 is superior phone.

I personally can't stand the screen or the cheap plastic of the Galaxy S phones. The One is coming to VZW sooner than later if you want to stay with them. Given the delay VZW put on getting the One, I'll probably jump ship once the One+ with the Snapdragon 800 or the One Max phablet hits the other carriers this fall.

Anyone gonna upgrade to a skyrocket II HD?

Just saw this today...
http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/09/...kyrocket-hd-coming-to-atandt-1-5ghz-dual-cor/
I think I may make the switch if it is half as good as I hope. Hopefully they learned from their flaws with the skyrocket.
Nope. I'm staying put with the sgsII!
Sent from my AT&T cellular device.
Just curious as to what makes you say that? No interest in the LTE, bigger screen or new form factor?
Depends on what the Processor is and what OS version it will come with.
i'm actually quite interested in the new skyrocket HD.
However, since there's SGS2 and skyrocket on the market for AT&T already, i doubt that many developers would make the jump and support skyrocket HD.
so i'm just gonna stick with my i777 because i love the developers here
Even if i could, no for the sole reason that it's most likely got a snapdragon chip

That too is a huge fear I have and is really my only major drawback to the device.
Now that Orlando will have LTE this is very tempting, but then again I am having way too much fun with the SGS2 to even think about replacing it.
Maybe if they announce it will have the dual core 1.5ghz exynos processors I'll give it another thought.
Samsung is going overboard. They should have released one galaxy s2 with their lte exynos and have a super amoled plus HD, THAT'S innovation, this is BS and gives Android a bad name for fragmentation
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA App
Isn't the GSIII also set to release this spring/summer as well lol?
If it's Crapdragon - hell no.
If it's Exynos - tempting, but I've already purchased one out-of-cycle upgrade, don't need the extra 300 MHz, and LTE will be worthless for at least 2-3 more years here.

2-3 years? How do you figure that?
I get an upgrade once a year with at&t, I got the gs2 the day it came out....so i still have about 7months left untill I can get my upgrade, by that time something bigger and better will be around....if not, i will for sure look into this phone.
im really thinking about it... the screen res was my only complaint with the s2 and now i see hope in the future!!!!
oh and i live in a LTE area
I used my wife's upgrade to get the S2 and i am available for a upgrade next month... i might sell my iphone 4 and S2 and take the upgrade... ill have to play with one first. My wife loves her phone so im set
as far as I know, the Exynos doesnt support LTE yet.
unless that has changed in the last couple months?
I'm sticking with mine. I live in a city that probably won't get LTE for another year or more. By that time, something else will be out and I can get an upgrade then.
I love my GS2 and battery life has been fantastic. Although I'd like a higher resolution screen, it's not enough to make me want to switch to the Skyrocket HD.
i live about 15 minutes north of NYC and LTE stops there so I'm just outside the LTE area. I wont be worrying about LTE devices anytime soon lol
At this point I will just wait for the SGSIII

I live in West Virginia. I don't know about Entropy512, but we are last on things like this if we even make the list. you need LTE to use LTE on your phone.
on topic, I'm disgusted with the amount of phones coming out. are people really upgrading every 2 months? Im not getting this.

Is the gs3 defitely coming to AT&T?

Ok so I'm sorry to ask this if it's been asked before. Deal is I have the Htc one x but my grace period is almost up. Really like the phone but I miss my Samsung. Thing is when is it supposed to if it does launch for AT&T. If it'll be not intil the late summer early fall then I'll just keep my one x. If it supposed to launch say in June. Then I'll wait for it and return the one x before the 30 days. I'm back to using my iPhone 4 and can't stand it.
AFAIK ATT is GSM so you can just buy one, pop in a sim and you're good to go.
I may be wrong.

Yes, Samsung international phones have typically been compatible with ATT. And as for the AT&T launch, they definitely said june but who knows.
Define defitely first. Then we will be able to answer your questions
Thanks. Guess I'll return the one x and save my upgrade for the gs3. It's odd though if it would be a June release wouldn't AT&T have announced it yet? Don't they usually announce them a few weeks before for preorders and such?
Yes I spelled definitely wrong.
Ya saw that lol. Tried to fix it but couldn't. Going from a 4.7" screen to the iPhones 3.5" it's hard to get back used to typing
If and when att gets the gs3 it will most likely be different in the hardware cause of LTE. It will be the same as the HTC one x has for att. The new s4 chip set.

Yeah not really thinking it'll be anytime soon. I wish I never sold my gs2. I really miss that phone . It's ok. I really like the one x but not as much as I did the gs2. So I think it'll be worth the wait for the gs3. I don't have lte in my area yet. Maybe later this summer. Just don't have the coin to shell out for the international version at the moment.

It seems HTC changed how app associations were handled for the US version of the HTC One X to avoid patent issues with apple ( http://www.theverge.com/2012/5/16/3...lte-custom-android-build-apple-patent-linkify). This caused some issues like the inability to view YouTube videos in the app when clicking on a video link in a browser web page (only open in the browser - boo). Samsung is caught up in patent disputes with Apple too so I wouldn't be surprised to see additional software differences from the international version...

See now that's starting to make me wonder. I'm curious if I'd be better off just selling the onex like on eBay and just forking over the extra cash to get the international version. AT&T will rape the SGS3 like they do every good phone, they can keep their LTE and their stupid yellow pages and everything else they might think I would want. And to make things even worse of course they will get rid of the physical center button.
Would something like say squaretrade work on this? Also I'm assuming (since I'm not in a hurry) the prices may drop come a month from now right?
Sorry just read this article. I know it's all speculation but 2g ram on the AT&T model would be nice

Eligible for Upgrade Soon, Where to go next?

Hi All,
I am eligible for my upgrade is 10 days, ready to retire the 3d, and am trying to figure out what phone to get next. Sprint doesn't seem to have many new phones coming out. I have always had HTC phones, ever since windows mobile, and i love sense. I had the galaxy S II for like 3 hours but traded it in for the 3d cause I hated the samsung interface and the size was too big for one handed operation. As far as I can tell the only worthy upgrades now are the EVO 4G LTE and the Galaxy III, both of which are huge. No Iphone 5, not going to happen, dont suggest it. Anyways love to hear your thoughts and opinions. Thanks
Galaxy nexus will be a good choice !
I have an idea:
Get an iPhone 5, everyone will want one, then trade it for any phone you want, they'll do it.

I read over threads of devices I was interested in looked for common issues people were having with phones, trolls and mods. HTC do you have s off or dev unlock can u deal with dev unlock of do you wait for s off. Samsung unlock you phone without restrictions. Performance things you need your phone for games etc. Me personally I chose the gs3 after I swore to never own another Samsung after the instinct.
Get a nexus device. Development is crazy good.
Glad I dumped the 3d.

From what I hear, both are nice. Go to their respective sections here and see which community you like better. Also try them in store first.

Honestly, if you don't want a far larger phone, there isn't much out there. The Evo 4G LTE, Galaxy Nexus, and Galaxy SIII are all about the same size. The Galaxy Nexus is a better phone than the 3D, but not by much. The Development is far, far better though.
If you don't get your upgrade immediately, you might be able to wait around for another 4.3" phone that has better specs, or you could skip this generation.
Wait until early next year for krait architecture quad core phones
That will be a real improvement, else go with one S

Since the Mogul I have owned HTC phones. I have upgraded every year and my first android phone was the First EVO. I got the EVO 3D on launch because it was a good upgrade over the EVO and I wanted to try the 3D. But this is the first year I havent gone out and replaced my phone on launch. I looked at the specs and did my research of the EVO 4G LTE but spending the 200+ bucks didnt seem ideal for me.
Yes the LTE is a step up from the 3D but I have found that im happy with the 3D as its still very fast and with the ICS update its even better than before. I have decided to skip this generation of phones and wait till the next gen HTC phones come out. Also as gimmicky as the 3D feature is for most, I actually use it quite a bit as I have a 3D TV at home.
What it comes down to in my opinion is this..... Use your upgrade now and get a great phone or wait 6-8 months for the next gen phones to start hitting the market and get an even better phone. This is what im doing myself but again its all about weighing your options.
I would suggest you to wait for a month or two ang get a new Nexus and as far rumor goes this year it will be at least 3 of them.
But if you really like Sense skin then i guess either go with HTC One X or Evo 4G LTE.
Thanks all, did you say new nexus?

If the OP went to T-mo, I would suggest the One S. It's a very fast phone that's thin and much smaller than the One X and galaxy SIII
I'm in the same boat as you. Today I changed my mind after reading a few articles about the snapdragon S4 quad-core phones.....and it looks like the wait wont be too long. One of the articles was a new phone by LG ...the Optimus G. I've never had an LG phone, but omg the specs on this are so impressive......the screen alone is almost a reason to wait.
I've only bought HTC phones for the family (evo(s) and 3d) I really wanted an evo lte, but if I bought today my 2 years would start on a phone that's already been out 2-3 months. Buy today or wait you cant lose

Note 2-- I agree
I'm looking forward to the next iteration of the note, but if I was going to get a new phone today, I think I would get a galaxy nexus iii.

Well, in the defense of us people, he said they are huge, but they were the only worthy contenders. This implies he had not ruled them out. Otherwise he would have said not to bother suggesting or discussing them.
At this time, they really are the only two phones for Android power users that Sprint has (besides the 3d of course). My suggestion to check out the dev scene of each device still holds.

If you are on an international phone you need international roms. You will most likely be plugging in your APN's manually though. Roms are not carrier specific they are hardware specific. If your device is the non at&t LTE version then it sounds like you should use international. This is going off of your limited information.

Alright thanks. I didn't realize that the international and AT&T ROMs were not compatible with each phone (On the One S you could flash an international ROM on a T-Mobile model probably because of lack of LTE etc. )
I'm a T-Mobile user currently with and iPhone 5 and a Nexus 4 and I can't get rid of one of these fast enough to get the HTC One X+ although I'll be buying the at&t version at full price, which is about a $100 cheaper than the international version and it comes with 64gb standard, not sure about the International version, I also can't stand those red accents
I'm hoping to use a One X+ on T-Mobile, but I'm waiting a bit for prices to come down. I'd also like to get a Telus/Canadian version (which is the same at the AT&T version, I believe, minus the AT&T bloatware and branding). I haven't figured out a way to get one yet though (there are lots' of AT&T ones on eBay, etc.).

Just curious why you prefer the One X+ over the Nexus 4. That's the other phone I've considered (as an upgrade from my now aging Nexus One). My main concerns about the Nexus 4 are the limited storage space, the fragile glass back, not the best battery life, and the so-so camera. I also just like the design of the One X+ more. My concerns about the One X+ are that it uses a previous generation CPU and has less RAM.

The Nexus 4 has better specs, hands down. But inferior optics and design, functionally and aesthetically. The glass back is bound to break and the design is unremarkable. The One X+ definitely will be last gen after CES, but I can live with it for year.

The Nexus 4 has a better cpu and gpu and more RAM, but I think that's about the only specs that are better than the One X+. Am I missing something?
As you note the One X+ has better optics. It also has far more storage (64 GB vs 16 GB). And I've read a lot of reviews saying it has the best screen out there (except now for the DNA), but definitely better than the Nexus 4 (although it's very good too). The One X+ I think is also supposed to have better sound quality. And, as I mentioned, it seems to have better battery life in tests.
Anyway, thanks for your comments. Obviously the cpu is a major important component, even if there are other specs where the One X+ is better. I tend to keep my phones longer than a year, so I want it to be good enough to be a little bit future proof.
On the other hand, I was just reading about leaks for the HTC M7 that will replace the One X+ in the spring, with a 1080p 4.7" screen (468 dpi!), other improvements to the screen quality, a S4 pro quad-core cpu, 2 GB RAM, improvements to the camera opitcs, and a 2300 Mha battery. So that is going to quickly make the One X+ last generation, as you say. Of course, if it's announced in the spring, there will be the inevitable delays before it's released, and then waiting for the price to come down, it will probably be the end of the year before I could get one anyway, so I don't know that it's worth waiting for. But it's hard to know that it's out there on the horizon. I just hope it has a good design (I don't really like what HTC did with the DNA).

I would go with the Nexus 4 if I as you. But your biggest issues would be the storage and the glass back. The camera is wayyy better the the Nexus One's. I've owned every Nexus, and it's camera is right under the Galaxy S III's and the iPhone 5's. I don't understand why LG couldn't use the same optics, but the phone is definitely for you if cost and longevity are issues for you. The processor is definitely better than the Tegra 3, but I'll probably only have it for a year. The longest I've owned a single phone was about 10 months.

Yeah that was my first option but I couldn't find an unlocked AT&T one and apparently they refuse to unlock it. I got my international HOX+ for a very good price though haha so I'm happy.

[POLL] How long are you keeping your Galaxy Note?

There are a lot of exciting and new phones/tablets coming out soon. Android 4.3 is out, the Galaxy Note III is around the corner, there is a new Nexus 7, Moto X is coming, etc. Are you tempted to buy any of these devices?
How long are you planning to keep your Samsung Galaxy Note before upgrading to another phone or simply not using it anymore?
I'll probraly get the note 4 , heh

lol ive already went through one and am on my second. the first went into a lake, bounced off concrete, and just finally the screen went out on me 2 months ago. i had all these accessories so i figured id just get another. then when this one dies i'll get something different.
Really you must be bored ........

I am done with contract phones. I like my note and as long as it functions normally I see no reason to upgrade it. I have 4 phones on my plan and the last contract ends in September. After that I'm going to try straight talk or TMobile. Of my 4 phones, I have 1400 minutes, two data plans, nation wide, unlimited texting and I get a 25% discount through my job and I'm still paying $200 a month. If I switched to ST or TM, I can get 4 phones with full data....etc for the same price. Granted you don't get 4G LTE, but I really wouldn't miss that HSPA+ and 3G is good enough for me.
When one of my phones dies, I'll gladly search Craigslist and buy something to replace it used...
I just finally dumped my ATT Uverse...... ATT sucks
Just until i can get a deal on either Note 3 or Mega. Whichever is bigger and i can get refurb deal on. Last purchase i got 2 S3's and Note for $100

Currently there is not a phone on the market that I would take over my Note. As for the up and coming devices pretty much all we have are unfounded rumors. I am looking forward to the Note 3 release and if it has the size and features that I want I imagine that it will be my next upgrade. But there again I'll be waiting to find out exactly what these new phones have in them before I do anything. :fingers-crossed:
Waiting for the next Note but Im sure ill keep the one i have
Waiting for note 3

im keeping my i717 but im jumping over to the z ultra once released as my daily
I'll probably pick up a clean used Note 2 this fall once the 3 comes out, primarily for battery life. I also want to get the TMobile version this time. I've been spending a lot of time in Milwaukee and my TMO S2 just does better than the Note. I might even ditch my 7.0+ when I get the new phone.
Note 3 or Moto X for me. I'm hoping a dev of my old phone will move to Moto X when it releases and if he does then I'm sold.

Love my Note may get the Note 3 or Mega whichever they are gonna call it. But I will always keep my OG Note until it dies on me.
I'm sticking with my Note i717 until Note 3 is out AND has good Cyanogenmod support. Can't stand using non-AOSP ROMs. I will never buy a device without a wacom stylus again, the Note has proven it to be a great feature. I like the 5+ inch screen size as well. I wish Note 3 went back to 16:10 (maybe 1920x1200) but I'll probably still get it regardless as long as there's a T-Mobile supported version I can get off contract, and preferably with a Qualcomm SoC because Exynos sucks for open source ROMs it seems.

I live between Milwaukee and Chicago. Try flashing the TMO UVLG3 modem. I've had the best results with that.
As long as devs port the newest Android OS to the Note, I will most likely stick with it. I don't like the physical Home button, on newer Galaxy S# and Note# phones. Maybe the Galaxy Mega or HTC One Max (if it has an SD card slot).
For FOREVER. If it will last that long c: I'd say at most . . . two years. I just ordered my Note a few days ago off of eBay and I'm patiently waiting for it to arrive. I'm leaving my Pantech Burst behind (I'm gonna miss it), but this phone will be an upgrade. I can't wait to see what it can do
Will be upgrading in Sept.

I'm patiently waiting for the Note 3. I just recently purchased the AT&T S4's for my wife and two sons and they are great devices, yet I love the larger screen on the Note. I've had the Note since it came out and waited on it for about 4-6 months prior to release after reading about it. Since purchase I have many cases, battery wall charger and 3 batteries (which in always carry 1 extra in pocket). If the Note came in a 6 inch screen like the Mega I'd love it, but the Mega's specs aren't very appealing to me. With the rumors mentioned about the Note 3 seems like I won't get 6 inch, more like 5.7 following the .2 increase from Note 1-2. Now regarding network I would NEVER go to anything less than LTE again after being spoiled with these blazing speeds of 60 mbps + . The service is sometimes almost 2x my home network speed (30 mbps Charter) and almost 5x the speed of regular U-Verse speed (10-12mbps if they are lucky). If been using JellyBean Sandwich Rom which has kicked every other ROMs butt (in my opinion) regarding stability, battery life and sheer performance and kept me satisfied with my Note 1. Hopefully we will see more about Note 3 soon.
My son is getting great battery life on his Note 2 even not rooted. I may go with the N2 or maybe the Note 3 if Samsung doesn't run it with the new Tizen operating system. I have been eagerly awaiting the N3 ...but fear they will ruin it.
