It isn't possible to run android on all touchscreen phones but some of them can run it. This is because if you are to port android to a device that isn't meant to run you will have to put in a lot of effort. A good example is HTC HD2 it was a Windows Mobile phone but it now runs a variety of different operating systems. This was because of the huge development community behind the phone.

WM7 Rom on Neo ?

Hi All,
Is it possible that install windows 7 rom on neo ?
Very improbable.....:
Wm7 is proprietary closed software, even if you found one for similar hardware you wouldn't have the exact drivers, they would have to be written from scratch, which lets face it phones are obsolete within a year or two so can't really see anyone reverse engineering....
And before anyone mentions hd2 that was a windows phone that has android ported to it a completely different kettle of cats.

WP7 on Xperia Neo is a waste of good hardware,because,excepting UI,WP 7 is much weaker platform than Android.Trust me,i've worked 1 week with a Lumia 710,and it was horrible.If you want WP7 UI,you can install Launcher 7 from Market,MILocker with WP7 theme,zune player,wp7 contacts,messaging 7 and wp7 email,and you'll have a complete wp7 ui,with Android OS. This is how my phone looks like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264324&page=26

Totally agree with this... android is Open Source and hence can be worked on and ported to some devices.

I don't think so!
Thnks for the launcher 7 idea, i would try it if it feels the same. but i believe it wont have the same push mail service as wm7.
I don't understand...

Because android is open source it can be ported to other devices... However wp7, iOS, symbian are not open source so they cannot be ported.

100%
i dont know why we r having this topic in 1st place
Pretty improbable to happen. WM7 is not open source, so you would need to spend a lot of time (and probably money too...)
And just to remember that it is very difficult to a different system, such as the WP7 android on a device, fully functional, stable ... you will have many problems with incompatible ...

[q] dual boot windows 7 & android for note

CAN SOMEBODY MAKE A ROM THAT RUNS WINDOWS 7 & ANDROID OR IS THERE ONE ALREADY LOVE BOTH SYSTEMS AND WOULD BE NICE TO RUN THEM ON MY GALAXY NOTE AT&T IM WILLING TO DONATE
What use would windows bring?
Would rather run linux/unix natively. Can do much more than windows any day.

If you wanna dual boot Android and Windows why not just buy an HD2? You can buy them for under $250 NIB. I do not think were gonna get WP7 on the Note but maybe we will get windows mobile which would be much easier to accomplish. I still doubt we will get either. Wait a few months and I bet we will be dual booting two Android roms and have a full desktop version of Ubuntu running. Ubuntu For Android is coming! Turns your Android device into a computer that can be plugged into a monitor and run just like a desktop. http://www.ubuntu.com/devices/android For all I know though there could be some techy working on what your looking for right now.
Maybe?
Did the OP maybe mean Windows 8? I know they are releasing Arm and Intel versions. Just a typo hopefully.

Ubuntu rom?

Is there any that we'll see Ubuntu custom roms? Or will i have to buy an Ubuntu Phone in order to experience it?

Chances are quite high that we will. Also IIRC Ubuntu said that they will be making their OS compatible with many popular Android devices, so an official Ubuntu ROM can be flashed instead of an Android ROM.

It's possible to see an Ubuntu ROM.
Also they said that they will release an Emulator & SDK for Ubuntu Phone Development until next week, so there is a big chance to see an official ROM released soon....

Sounds Awesome! A smart move by them would be to somehow make android apps compatible with it cuz it will take them a looooong time to get to the amount of apps android already has (if it ever will)...

Im pretty sure you can get android apps to work in ubuntu if you use multiarch.
Ubuntu OS is meant to run on Android (multi-core devices) only I believe. So if you meet this requirement you will get this They also mentioned that other flavors of linux will be released. (Not supported by Ubuntu however)

If you are satisfied with running Ubuntu in parallel with Android, you can always make an Ubuntu ROM yourself, following my HOWTO in my signature.
Good assumption

i think it will need a couple of weeks untill ubuntu "custom roms" will be portet to non nexus devices, because teh only devices that r officially supportet by ubuntu phone are the nexus 4 and the galaxy nexus.
You should know that Ubuntu Phone needs high resources to run on any devices.
There r few Devs at the moment that know how to port this on any device, and most of this r the devs of Ubuntu itself.
I would not name Ubuntu Phone a custom rom because it's not based on Android => it's a mobile OS based on linux but not on android
The first UbuntuPhones will be selled much later there are no at the moment

I have Htc Desire, it will be possible to run Ubuntu on my sweet phone? Or it is possible only for new phones? What is a must have for system? CPU, Ram, storage. Thx for answer.

What's the actual point of having another linux distribution on your phone? Shouldn't it be the same (I'm not talking about few additional features that might be somewhat useful)?

Is like why some ppl prefer Linux Mint or Ubuntu or even Debian if all come from the same way? It's just matter of tastes.
What do I need to do to boot this bad boy on my jewel?
(Will you be copying all the questions and answers and adding them to the first post? )
Will dev devices be available? Will steam be officially supported for mobile?
What I'm curious about is will this support ext3/ext4 filesystems? Support for links?
Also, will there be a repo? Ability to install the gcc toolchain?
I'm curious on how unlock security. Like having a password to unlock or something like that. What would it look like on this OS? Another question I have is what are the keyboard's features?

no you can not install ubuntu on htc desire
the minimum requirements are
1ghz dual core cpu
1gb ram
wvga screen
Can we install it which devices we want, like Ubuntu for PC? Or must developers customize it for all devices like Android?
What is Ubuntu for Phones' minimum system requirements?
And there will be a new release every 6 months like Ubuntu for PC?

Will it support (in the future) the Android app ecosystem?
I really hope so because people like me already purchased a lot of app and I need them (and won't buy them again).
What do you think?
Is this Q&A just aimed at the community or will it have some "official" answers ? If so what mobile networks will be used in the UK on release ?
Dual booting a possibility on the Nexus ?
Secure market for purchasing apps /devices?
Apart from the Nexus , What other devices are you hoping to introduce this year for us to play with ?
How easy/hard will it be to port ROMS to another other device ?
What will you offer us ( apart from a new OS to play with) that's going to steal market share from Android ?
What plans do you have for future updates to the OS ,will it become as fragmented as Android ? Will you push carriers to update ROMs or will it be down to XDA to do this
Will you make it easy for us to do our thing or will you lock the devices down (not that it will stop XDA lol)
If any of you are interested in getting Canonicals attention for us, the XDA Family being able to beta for them, here is a petition I started at change.org! It won't hurt to sign it guys, might as well try!

Is there a Virtual Machine for Windows Phone 8 I could run it from?
Really just thinking android cause it has a lot of GPS apps I like. Guess maybe Ill have to go with a lower spec phone just to use droid. xd.
No vms for mobile platform of 8 simply as they are not made to run on arm processors I guess you can either have win 8 or android
But I ve herd of some devices I can't recall now that could be dual booted with win 7.5 and android
For app part there'd be soon Google maps for gps
