Our linux kernel version (3.4) permits us access to the next few updates of Android since it is a long term support version. This means we could theoretically get 4.2+ on our device, but I doubt it will be officially

Well I'm pretty sure Google is copying Apple with its update styles now, with .x updates being minor and keeping the name, so 4.3 will be Jelly Bean still. Android 5 will follow the pattern with Google's names, with its alphabetical order.
C-Cupcake
D-Donut
E-Eclair
F-Froyo
G-Gingerbread
H-Honeycomb
I-Ice Cream Sandwich
J-Jelly Bean
Key Lime Pie looks likely for Android 5.

Versions 1.0 and 1.1 didn't have a public name. The names started from version 1.5.
Cupcake 1.5
Donut 1.6
Eclair 2.0 - 2.1
Froyo 2.2 - 2.2.x
Gingerbread 2.3 - 2.3.x
Honeycomb 3.0 - 3.2
Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 - 4.0.x
Jelly Bean 4.1 - 4.3 (possibly 4.3.x)

Sense, regardless of the version, is built on top of a specific build of android. Sense 3.0 was built on 2.3.3 I believe, Sense 3.5 was on 2.3.5, 3.6 is on 4.0.3 and 4.0 is on 4.0.3. AFAIK you cannot take sense out of a build an put it onto another build. They are too intermingled. Anyone can correct me if this is wrong, but I thought this is the case.

Here's a better question I think. Will the improvements brought to Jelly Bean via Project Butter be able to be added into ICS/Sense 4.0 builds? Is this kernel related or built into the 4.1 framework? That would be nice.

Until HTC releases source code for the camera and the ICS kernel, you're probably right. The 3d is hard to dev for, especially without source code.

Till now we all know that Android 4.1 Jellybeans is in slot now. Even SDK is out. Sources are not on-line though. But I believe it will be very soon.
Now it's a big question whether LG P500 can hold Jellybeans or not? As fas as information on net concern Yes we can see JellyBeans on our beloved LG P500 As drivers are almost same so it wont be a big problem to port it in our phone. With only 5-6 major changes JB is almost same as ICS. Some new features are there in JB like Google NOW, Off-line voice text is very cool about JB.
So in short we will see JB as soon as they release source codes.
If you find anything interesting you guys can post here so that we can have faith that LG P500 will have JB.
Happy Hacking.
JB on P500
Of course me and every O1 owner will more than glad to see Jelly Bean to be ported to it.We have stable ICS on our device and if JB is ported then our device will become the most worthy phone of all.
"COME ON DEVS"!!!:good:
Hope we can see Jelly Bean in our device, hope devs can do it as they ported ICS
Sources should be out by mid July according to Google.

I think that without sources no one could tell you if it is possible or not. Let's wait for sources to be available.
Woots, that would be brilliant.

I do not think porting will help in case of P500. So many things will be broken. We have only CM9 libs and binaries so it won't help that much. But build from sources will be a great option.
I think google now and offline voice will be in the next gapps, which I am sure will work on ICS

I'm running the Sense Revolution R3 ROM on my Desire X right now, and am very happy with it. However, I was wondering, if a JB update is released for the DX, will I have to revert back to the stock ROM to update, or can the update be done simply be relocking and updating in this ROM itself, seeing as it is still running sense?

Yeah you say that, based on the press release but I remember the Desire HD was DEFINITELY getting ICS they even listed it specifically... never did.
Remember the GB update for the original desire, the scrapped it then released an appaling ROM on htc dev that had no internal memory or SD-EXT functionality..
I KNOW what the press release says, but you are dealing with a company that constantly renages on updates for its handsets.... I will believe it when I have the phone in my hand.
Also the previous post mentioned 4.2 and sense 5, that is HIGHLY doubtful. That is what I was commenting on as you can see in my brief post.
---------- Post added at 01:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:15 PM ----------
Also, 512 and less not getting it does not mean we are DEFINITELY going to get it. They aren't, we are still in the running. They are not equivalent statements.

well I think they won't even give it a 4.1 sense...let's hope cm would do some roms.....I am not affected as its my secondary phone..haha...HTC is kind of Nokia for me..Samsung is the best..
Seeing as we didn't even get the full sense on ICS, I find it highly unlikely that we will get sense 5.

I'm hopeful we will. LlabTooFeR seems pretty reliable on these things. However, HTC aren't.
Just wanted to make it toally clear that saying 512 RAM is the cut off point is NOT the same as saying all other phones WILL get it. We have priority as a 2012 device for TESTING JB on the phone and then deciding to release it.
I'd guess, that we will get JB but with a horrible restricted Sense Lite and some of JB stripped out (notification expansion etc). It will be a poor compromise and we'll all be looking for ROMS pretty quick.
I hope I'm wrong, but all my dealings with HTC would suggest this to be the case. The Desire HD debacle was ridiculous and the contempt for the original Desire that was shown later on for their own flagship is concerning always. Fingers crossed though for something cool from HTC by June.
Is it possible that we will have a JB ROM soon though?
Sent from my HTC Desire X
No idea. I would imagine march at the earliest. Only a guess though. Testing, pilot roll out in Taiwan and Singapore, gradual worldwide release.
Nothing official yet, and they could always say no like they did with other models in the past.
