AT&T Next = Amazing Value and Upgrades every 12 payment cycle - AT&T HTC One (M7)

“With AT&T Next, customers can get the newest smartphone or tablet every year with no down payment. That’s hard to beat, and it’s an incredible value for customers who want the latest and greatest every year,” said Ralph de la Vega, president and chief executive officer of AT&T Mobility.

Smh. People who sign up for this should pay a lower rate for service. AT&T isn't offering that so I'll pass.

Exactly, not worth it unless they offered a discount in service.

No amazing value there. No incentives for me to port out my 2 AT&T HTC ONEs from Straight Talk. Which is too bad because I'm willing to pay a bit extra for LTE service, but with AT&T's current rate plans I'm better off just keeping my phone with Straight Talk.

True...but with the amount of consumers who just want a phone without having to pay anything up front let alone $200 up front and don't really pay attention to details....Next will most likely do well.
It's sad
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app

This would be OK for someone who wants a new device and do not have current eligibility for an upgrade. Of course you probably can only do this at the time of the contract renewal.
I mean this, if you are willing to pay full price anyway, why not pay interest free payments? But, if you are eligible for an upgrade then this makes no sense. And I don't mean HTC Sense.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium

I'm sorry but this is so foolish. We have four phones on our plan, two of them are the $10 options and they never upgrade their phones that basically gives me the option to buy a new phone every 8 months.
The only people I see buying into this are wealthy people, with bad math skills, that have teenaged children complaining for the newest phone.

Haha amazing value. That's gotta be sarcasm?
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium

No, it's not an amazing value. It would be an amazing value ONLY IF the phone service prices dropped. The phone services have a $20 subsidy built in already, so essentially you're paying twice for the subsidy. What a joke AT&T. Only stupid customers will fall for this.

This is a **** move from sprint, they are going back downhill. They are upping their etf to $350 and now this? If they had decent 3g then ok but service is subpar. They want to play with the big 2 (being Verizon and AT&T) and they can't even match them with service. Yes we have unlimited but what good is that if people are only getting 300 kbps downloads.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
Sprint is far from putting whip cream on waffles, they where doing good before these changes. I would not renew my contract for a $350 etf for **** service.

What's funny is I just talked to a Retention Manager and He told me that he got that e-mail about 30 minutes ago about the Premiere Program going away and was surprised it was in the Interwebz already. This is horrible. I have been with Sprint 11+years and if they think they can move up to the big dogs (Verizon & AT&T) and NOT provide the same Speed in 3G and 4G (LTE) they are going to loose customers so quick it will make their heads spin. Greed plain and simple. Get the iPhone and get Greedy, A-Holes. Bye Sprint, Hello Verizon and the Bionic.
All of this is totally understandable to me at least on Sprints part. They have the best rates and want to keep them a little longer. They have to make cuts somewhere.
I probably don't sympathize well because I just now finally got a cell phone but I think their rates are way better than Verizon or AT&T.
I do understand long term bonuses though because I've worked at the same place for over 18 years and to lose something sucks.
If I am going to get RAPED, I will at least have better coverage. Sprint has horrible coverage and thinks because they are getting the iPhone they can be Jerks. Adios Sprint, Hello Verizon. My Wife has a 24% discount with Verizon. Hopefully the Bionic is a nice phone. I may just go Trac Phone. This is getting ridiculous.
This thread is going no where real quick.

This stinks but its bringing them to same as the other carriers. Also, at least they are giving notice, over 3 months for the people who are close. If I'm not mistaken, I believe Verizon gave like no notice when they screwed over. Not happy, just hit gold and all cause its a crappy iphone but I can't see leaving for another carrier when they do the same or worse. Sprint still has the best plan prices and unlimited data (not saying this won't change next) F Apple.

@theredvendetta is right. I would love to think these petitions would do wonders for us, but our track record with them isn't what I call spectacular. The best way to deal with this is hit them where it hurts the most-their wallet.
If you are not voting with your feet and won't move to a different carrier, then you have no hope and Verizon knows it, so you are wasting your time. Verizon gets thousands of complaints every day about cost, signal, speed, plans customer services. I don't see Verizon improving any of that, its only gets worse, more expensive, etc. So save your signatures and use your wallet to vote Verizon out.

Not totally true. I was told if a moved to the Nexus sometime this week, Ill keep unlimited until the big plug is pulled.
You think they'll just suddenly get rid of unlimited for 3g customers wanting to upgrade to 4g?
I've been watching all the major android news sites to hear of any news on the subject from Verizon.
I want to go from my X2 to a SGIII but would rather not preorder. No guarantees.
In order to circumvent all of this, I want to do the following:
I may get a Nexus through Costco soon to lock into 4g unlimited. Then, once the SIII comes out at the same time the new shared data plans will like debut, I'd use Costco's 90-day warranty to return the Nexus and get a SIII with the intent to keep unlimited 4g.
In anyone's user experience, do you have to sign a new contract when upgrading your device? Can I just keep the Nexus plan?
Sooo I pretty much wrote this to see if you guys see any flaws in my master plan.

If you had a termination fee that means you left sprint, therefore you'll have a higher monthly bill no matter where you go. Also, you'll have a metered internet cap with your spanky new 4G LTE phone, and therefore you've also opened yourself up to an overage bill on the internet if you are a moderate to heavy user.
Enjoy your new phone.

Hello,
Thanks to being able to bill to my account, I ordered a 64gb iPhone 5 today. I am honestly not sure if I am going to end up keeping it as I have been using Androids since 2.1 (Eclair) and I really like the platform. However, I am frustrated that Sprint frakked the Photon 4G replacement and I am not fond of Samsung (too plasticky) and to a lesser extent HTC.
I was honestly praying that Sprint would get some sort of version of the RAZR. The Intel Atom powered RAZR looks amazing, but has only been announced for Europe and I think Asia.
Being with Sprint since 1999, I really am conflicted about the iPhone in general. Thanks to Sprint having to pony up Billions of Dollars just to offer the bloody thing. they have done away with the Premier Gold Program replete with 12 Month Upgrades, the ability to bill equipment to your account at any corporate owned Sprint Store, and far less understanding Account Services actions.
That being said., it will be nice to have tons of options for Accessories where with the Photon there are hardly any. Still, I am hoping a flagship Android Phone is announced by Sprint in the next month.
Cheers,
JJ

I find it a foolish exercise to try and compare phones and platforms. At the end of the day they do the same most of functions. At the end of the day
Choice of device is a personal one. If on the day I told myself I now longer care to think about my tech I might move to a different platform as well. People have reasons for moving to ios, and are better for it in many cases.

I have an evo lte running cm 10 and am very happy with it. I am also eligible for an upgrade and was wondering what should I do with it. I was thinking get an iPhone 5 and Craigslist it to some poor isheep for a cool $450ish profit. Or wait for the Galaxy Note II, and sell that one? I think the iPhone would bring better profit. I think your logic is flawed here. You get the upgrade by signing a contract. So let's say you do this and get the iPhone 5 and sell it for 500 bux. You get you supposed cash for ****s and giggles or to get a new device, that's cool too. Now what happens when a surprise must have device drops in four months. You've spent your money and now are also still locked into contract. Person who bought you iPhone 5 made out like a bandit while your stuck with **** all.
My advice, upgrade to the phone you want or buy your phone outright and get off contracts. Don't let some shmuck on CL make out with deal cuz you want a little party cash.
My $0.02 anyways.

Not true, they may tell you this at sprint but as long as you activate a new or upgraded phone on the line its supposed to go on you can immediately call back n switch it to another line or off lines. I've done it dozens of times. As long as a phone stays on the line your good, only has to be new phone for a sec to trip the account.

Just my personal belief in not signing a 2 year contract to use a service. I can walk away at any time in those 2 years and not be stuck with an ETA and can also come back as I please. Also you pay a high premium for that phone when it's subsidized.
I just feel it's better to have the option to leave when/if you want.. Guess I shouldn't have said "Never" as I was pushing my thoughts on people. I should have worded it a little different. If you can avoid to purchase the phone full price that's the way to go so you're not locked in and locked down for 2 years.

Keep your upgrade until the next time you want to upgrade...so maybe this coming summer or even wait 2 years to get something that's way better than the evo 4g lte...I don't think anything that comes out by summer 2013 will be leaps and bounds better than the evo 4g lte
