So am I the only one that thought of using TetherGPS to use a phone to get gps info from?
But the one bad thing is when the ATP seems to connect to a phone (lg-vm670 in my case) it just crashes the app on the ATP.
Anyone with the same issues?

Nope, you,re not the first.
Try Bluetooth GPS and GPS over BT. I had good luck with these.
For even better results buy a cheap BT GPS receiver.
BLUETOOTH GPS works very well. Simple setup also. Its a proven app. I have it and worked great linked to my prime.
Thank you both. I'll try it.

Did you do these steps?
1. On the prime Settings -> Developer options -> check mock locations
2. use either the phone or the tablet and pair the two units together
Settings -> wireless and networks -> bluetooth settings -> search for devices
Connect to device and accept connection on device discovered.
3. On the phone start GPS over Bluetooth or Bluetooth GPS Output
4. On the Prime start Bluetooth GPS -> select your phone from the pul down and connect.
If you get connection refused try rebooting your phone.
review the end of this video around 4:11 mark good example of using phone GPS with a tablet (touchpad running android).

He prime users,
I have one of the primes with a bad connection to Wifi.
I love to use my prime for all other futures but it would be nice if i can also use it in the rooms further from my wifi signal.
Therefore i would like to insert a wifi usb stick/dongle into my prime keyboard.
Does anyone have experience with this? Or are there other people that have a wifi usb stick and want to check if it works?
My wifi signal is secured so how can you insert a password?
I really hope that this idea will solve my wifi problems for good.
Kind regards,
Germer
Did you registered you Transformer Prime on the (vip . asus . com) asus member webpage?
Once you have your product registered you will see an option on the left that let's you "ask" them to give the "solution" they found for those who have wifi problems with their Tranformer Prime.
Better worry, because it ends arround July I think.
Thanks for your reply.
I don't have the option on my asus vip page, i sended them an email now.
I bought the prime in the USA and i live in Europe so i can not return the prime.
I still hope i can solve the issue with a wifi stick? Anybody knows about the compatibility of a wifi stick?
On the VIP website, once inside, look for a botton called "TF201 GPS Extension Kit Apply&Inquire". After the click you will see something like this:
"Thank you for purchasing the ASUS Eee Transformer Prime TF201, and helping to make it the most popular Android based tablet since its launch in December 2011. We greatly appreciate feedback from our valued customers about our products, and take it very seriously. The response to the TF201 generally has been overwhelmingly positive, but we understand that, in certain regions, the GPS functionality has not met some user’s expectations.
Free Dongle! At ASUS, we are committed to delivering innovative, high-quality products and services, and our customers’ experience is important to us. Although the TF201 is not a professional GPS device, as part of our unwavering commitment to our customers we are offering all customers who purchased a TF201 system a free external GPS extension kit, called a dongle, which may help improve signal reception and optimize the user experience. We are pleased to announce this offer as part of our commitment to customer service, but it does not replace, alter or amend any existing warranties you may have.We also encourage you to contact ASUS customer support in your local region directly if you are experiencing GPS related problems.
ASUS prides itself on delivering an unrivalled user experience, and we offer our sincere apologies for any inconvenience that our customers may have encountered.
The offer will expire on 31th of July, 2012 (PST)."
It doesn't matter if you bought it in the USA and you live in Europe, just drop your adress and they will send you the hardware free of charge.
He again,
I do have the GPS extension kit, but does this kit also improve my wifi signal? I actually only care about the wifi signal. In the description of the gps extension kit it doesn't say anything about improving wifi.
germer
No, the dongle, according to reports, doesn't do anything to improve wifi.
Not sure why people in this thread are giving you advise on how to improve your GPS, when you asked about wifi?!?
Sorry I don't have any info on the issue you did ask about.
Sorry, my bad. I tought The dongle would help WIFI reception too.
Try searching on youtube for "asus transformer prime wifi fix" this might help. After you tested it, post here your results please.
I first brought up that idea about the wifi dongle. Demandarin said that if there is enough popularity on this subject Gary Keys might actually impliment it. So please keep seeing if more people would like this. This should be able to fix all wifi problems completely!!!
I used that video before, and it does work and improves my reception. But i can not sit at the couch and push on my tablet all the time. It is only temporarily and does not give me a good solution. I really hope that more people are interested in a wifistick solution so that someone can test it. More ideas?
Does anyone think this would work on the prime? It's a usb WIFI adapter for Apple products and some more.
meritline dot com/wlan-wireless-wifi-express-adapter-for-iphone-ipad-ipod---p-79501.aspx?hq_e=el&hq_m=2447492&hq_l=125&hq_v=84917200d8
Im not sure dude, but I would try giving it a go. I have messaged Gary Keys in hopes for him to allow usb wifi adapters to work on the prime to fix the wifi problem but I havent gotten an answer back yet. I assume if we all bring it up enough on these forums, he will actually impliment it in future updates. So, If you can, try spreading this idea around so more people will fight for this to happen.
I got this little wifi range extender that I carry around and use with my prime if needed.
http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/?categoryid=241&model=TL-WR702N#over
It works pretty well. You can quickly change which wifi network you want to extend with this by connecting to it and using the web browser to log into the quick setup.
You can also use it as an external wifi card via ethernet if you have the dock and a usb to ethernet adapter.

I've read in some other threads that it works quite good indeed. However it's almost twice the price of the TP-link router. And in both cases, the question still remains if the device can be powered by the prime or not (for WL330N3G can't help but notice that the explanatory picture shows 2 usb cables connected to one laptop :s)

Just wanted to share my experience with the tplink nano router earlier mentioned with the tfp. So my main questions was if the device could be powered with the dock of my prime: it does not other than that, the repeater function works perfectly. The router is about 25 feet from the main router. The tfp right next to it, i managed to get 4 mbps of download out of a possible 12. From the same spot, the tfp gets between -80 to -70 dbm but the dm speed barely gets to 700 bps. So for the size and the price paid for, it's quite a nice performance imho. Besides, it is possible to configure it directly with the prime (with the help of'the dock and a nintendo wii ethernet to usb adapter). Like seen in most reviews the default settings come with dhcp server options disabled but it's quite easy to manage through the admin panel. I'll try to test it throughly with different scenarios (wifi hotspot and such...) and post results. It is quite sad that it can't be powered with the dock. Other than that, i hope it will be sufficient until the time i'll find a prpper replacement for the prime.

It might be nice if ASUS cared enough to make the WL330N3G available cheaply to TF201 owners ...come to think of it free would be even better.
I got my GPS dongle but to be honest I would rather have better Wifi. I am confused as to whether the TF201 actually supports a normal Wifi Dongle - my reading seems to indicate that it requires a software update with appropriate drivers. If that's the case then maybe that's a good reason to root the Prime with a ROM that supports a Wifi Dongle!
Is there one out there?

I'm looking to buy the asus transformer infinity + dock for a friend. The fact is, there's no wi-fi at his place so he has a 3g mobile broadband usb stick that he plugs into his laptop to get internet. Has anyone tried if such a setup works? I'm thinking of also pairing a usb hub as everyone could use more usb ports.
Try this
UMTS Manager **root** on Google Play
UMTS manager for the ASUS TRANSFORMER PRIME TF 201
Attention! There is a need ROOT access!
Please install busybox here from play goals, otherwise the display is not the online status.
This is a UMTS stick on Asus Prime Transformer can be used.
As UMTS Stick have been tested, type:
HUAWEI E 160
HUAWEI E 173
HUAWEI E220
HUAWEI K3715
ZTE MF628
If someone uses a different type of stick successfully, please mail to me.
Please observe that this app only with the
ASUS TRANSFORMER PRIME
was tested. In other tablets I can offer no support!
Now works on an Acer Iconia A510
Tried, Yet I cant get Root access, for some reason on .28 Prime

I've never tried it on a prime or other Android device. However I did recently help someone set up a Verizon usb 3g device on a Windows Laptop. Thing is, it required the Verizon Access Manager software to be installed on the laptop - so Verizon might be a no go. I'm betting someone out there has probably hacked one, but I wouldn't be optimistic.
A better option might be something like this:
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/...t&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=5912
The device itself is only $20 but there is that pesky 2 year contract to get that price and the $50 per month for 5 GB per month. A similar device with another carrier that has better rates on data plans might be better. I only mention Verizon because that's what I'm familiar with.

I would try getting in touch with that app developer. They may be able to give you some information right off the bat to fix it, or maybe it will bring a problem to their attention that they didn't know existed with newer firmware or something.
Of course it depends on the developer, but more times than not, they are very helpful and will go out of their way to get you up and going.

Can I ask for some clarification please. When you say '3netaccess' - do you mean the APN info or something else? What exactly is the syntax and where does this go? I used three.co.uk as my APN plus all the other info you posted and connected via an E220. Just want to make sure I'm not missing anything...
Edit: Also notice that it loses/drops the connection with the dongle as soon as the tablet goes to 'sleep' (ie. after 1 min in my case on the screen sleep setting). Is there anyway round this..?
Cheers
3netaccess was jst like your 3.co.uk it was was my austalian access point (like 3mms and 3internet)
the only way i have seen to stop it from sleeping is by leaving the sceen on, or changing the screen setings, mine is on 1hour and then i turn it on andd off as i need

I don't think so -- reply came directly from them.
Perhaps a highly mis-informed employee or spelling error.
he likely meant GPS dongle. I wouldn't hold my breathe on a wifi dongle. it would be better for Asus to just add the drivers, through firmware update, needed to use external USB wifi dongles if we need/want the extra reception power.
Spelling error or unusual special action for select clients (that would explain the regio via email)
I dont have wifi problems, while max rate isnt the highest, its fine at picking up weak signals and squeezing some KB/s out of it and thats most important for me
Even though seems highly unlikely i'd love the idea of having a wifi dongle directly to the tablet

You will never get one with GPS that functions *well*. They made the GPS kit to "fix" the GPS problem, but I dont think you can order it any more. You might look around on here to see if someone is selling/giving theirs away.
tl;dr; I wouldn't count on getting one where GPS functions like you want.
I just received a gps kit from Asus even though the offer is expired and my tablet was purchased as a refurb 2 weeks ago all I did was sign up for one and 4 days later it was at my door completely free of charge. Follow the steps here event.asus.com/ASUSPad/TF201GPS/ hopefully they send one out to you as well.
I have the dongle as well, but it doesn't really get a GPS lock with it. I wonder if the further north you are the harder it is for reception?
SD
The answer for me has allway been simple, use a bluetooth gps device. They are small, cheap and vastly more efficient than any built in GPS whatever tablet you have. You can place it in an optimum place, be it your pocket or the corner under the windscreen and you can still charge your Prime. It updates my position faster than my wife's Tomtom. The downside is wifi is compromised by the bluetooth but since I never use wifi while on the move, it makes no difference to me.

I bought mine earlier in the year and got the dongle. It's pretty good in terms of reception, at least in my area (south Israel): I got more locks with it than I had with my cellphones before. That said, the device itself is quite a nightmare to operate: you attach it to the bottom part of the tablet and it completely obstructs the docking port, giving you no way to charge the tablet until it's removed. Of course if you have a case/enclosure for your tablet, taking it out constantly is very inconvenient, making things even more annoying, but from what I can see, it does give you GPS...
As for the built-in GPS - it receives absolutely nothing. For people who hope to get at least one unusable satellite in an open field on a clear day: forget about it! I tried to get into the open as much as I could and there was zero reception everywhere. Short of taking a Shuttle right next to that GPS satellite or modding your expensive tablet with antenna strips made out of tin foil or something (which I saw a person on YouTube do), you won't be receiving anything at any time through the built-in GPS module...
TF201 GPS Remedy
If you're still having GPS problems with your TF201 and have root access, download TF201_External_GPS.zip and flash it in recovery or with GooManager, etc. My GPS was dead with or without the dongle, and after flashing that file the GPS reception in my TF201 is just as good as it is in my Samsung Galaxy S2 phone. There is a TF201-GPSTweaks.zip that you can try as well, but I didn't notice a difference with that.
