HTC Rom Porting Help - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay so I just got this HTC Evo Shift 4g and rooted. I have to say the rooting process is a hassle, you know with s-off and everything. My questions is not how to port roms for it, I had many very successful ports before. My question is is it that easy? Like I port roms for samsung and varios chinese devices. Saying I had to do a whole lot extra with rooting, would I need to do other stuff for porting?
As a base rom I'm using htc evo shift unofficial cm10. I want to port this rom:

Can I just go ahead with porting, or afterwards add like the recovery or something (like radios)

New owner of HTC Hero with a couple of questions

Hi,
I just bought an HTC Hero off eBay today (still waiting for it) and it comes from T-Mobile but it's unlocked. However, I'm looking at debranding the phone and I want to install the original HTC ROM's instead of T-Mobile's.
I've been reading these forums and there are original HTC ROM's, original HTC but rooted ROM's, custom ROM's and etc... I'm not interested in the custom ones at the moment, I just want to get the original stuff for now, but without the T-Mobile branding. Also, this way, I can always be updated with the latest changes from HTC.
As far as I understand this, I'll have to root it at least once to install a new ROM right? And after that, maybe I should install the generic but rooted HTC ROM so that in the future I have the phone rooted already and everything's easier, correct? Is this the recommend approach or should I install the latest original and untouched HTC ROM?
For now I don't see many benefits from rooting the phone, and I think I just want to make things easier by using the original HTC ROM so that in the future I can use HTC own utilities (RUU I believe) to update the phone. In other others, I'm waiting eagerly for HTC update with Android 2.0 and I just want be able to install it directly from HTC when it comes out. I'll deal with rooting and custom firmwares later if I really see the need.
So, what's the best procedure to install the latest generic HTC ROM?

[Q] New ROM on HTC Thunderbolt

Hello all,
I am new to Rooting, Unlocking bootloaders n all that.
My question is simple. Hope somebody can help me out.
Is it enough to Unlock the bootloader on my HTC Thunderbolt to install a new ROM ?(Now that HTC has released bootloader unlocking from HTCDev.com for the Thunderbolt)
I want to install HTC Sense 3.5 on the phone without rooting the phone.
Is this possible ?
If so, can someone provide me a link to downloading the HTC Sense 3.5 ROM. I tries searching and I am not quite sure how to get the correct ROM which will work well. Also, I would like to have the HTC Sense 3.5 as clean as possible.
Is there any specific ROM that would give me a very clean experience ?
Can xda members also help me out on Ste-by-Step instructions to installing the new Sense 3.5 ROM to my phone ?
Any help is much appreciated !
Thanks in advance !
No you need root in order to flash a custom rom, everything you need to do so is in the stickies in the development stickies.
Well, you don't need root to flash a custom ROM, but most likely the custom ROM will have root regardless. To flash, you just need a custom recovery installed.

HTC EVO 3D Wont root cm10 or aokp

Okay. So here is my dilemma. I have tried to root this phone for at least a year. But recently i was able to do it. I unlocked my phone and put a working recovery on it! 4ext! But then the problems began. I tried to install ROms like Aokp or Cm10.1 but they would load up to the startup animation then go into a boot loop. For at least 6 other roms this happened aswell. I then read up on some articles and think that maybe this is because of my hboot. It is hboot 1.5 and not many roms work with this. I tried to flash AnthraX-htcleak-rls1.zip kernel since many articles said it would fix the problem but it did not help. PLEASE Can someone help me ! I need cm10 or aokp! BTW this is a HTC evo 3d Gsm (rogers) hboot 1.5.
if you have installed cmw .. you must need to backup the stock rom . in order to fix and accident caused by this kind of experiments
try to flash stock rom to it . it will b ok
try search your relevant product in google. HTC EVO 3D stock rom
find one wich is match your device properly
regards n best luck

if you want to run aosp based roms like cm10.1 aokp etc then you need to s-off and downgrade hboot. but if you want to run sense based custom roms then you dont need s-off
I have hox, and I dont need s off.

like i said it depends on which rom you want to flash. AOSP roms will not boot for you. Only sense based roms will work

S-OFF for Amaze with custom ROM

Hi everyone. I'm new to Android, so apologies if this has been repeated before.
I have a HTC Amaze that I have been able to successfully install CyanogenMod 10.0 on. Everything is working fine. I want to do some additional modifications that require S-OFF, however every software to put device into S-OFF appears to require the official ROM.
Can anyone provide any direction on what I can use to put device into S-OFF state with CyanogenMod 10.0? (If it matters, I'll be reloading the device with Android Revolution HD 5 soon)
Thanks everyone.

Thats what I used a few years back. But it might not be supported anymore.
Good luck.
