Ok so I have my one and I think I'm having issues with my proximity sensor...if I'm on a call and I pull the phone away the screen stays black instead of turning back on for me to use the keypad or end a phone call...I usually have to hit the power button to get the screen to turn back on...it happens on every Rom I've tried including stock...all proximity tests have come back normal etc....so I'm thinking of sending it to HTC...if there is a hardware type issue will they be able to fix it or will they most likely send me another phone?...I am bootloader unlocked...will I have to soff and relock and s-on to send it to them for warranty service? Or do they really mind if the bootloader is unlocked? I never had to send a phone back to the manufacture before for warranty work...thanks guys

Why aren't you dealing with at&t? Much easier.
I spoke with att a while ago and they told me I'd have to go thru HTC since my remorse period was over...that was a bit ago...maybe I'll try att over the phone....

Ok so after some testing I'm realizing it's not the proximity sensor...if I make a call and say put the phone down...and nothing infront of the sensor the phone will flicker on and off and then eventually just turn completely off that I have to press the power button to turn it back on...it must be the way I hold my phone that the proximity sensor doesn't get covered....but is that normal though?...if using the phone say on speaker away from the face...should it turn off like that? I would think the phone screen should stay on the full duration of the call no?...can anyone else test this out?

Yeah I'm planning on it....but before I do is that normal for the screen to shut off into sleep mode while on a call? If it's a normal reaction there's no reason to get warranty service...like I made a call...put it on the table with speaker on.. after about 20 seconds phone screen went blank and had to hit power button to turn it back on

yeah I don't think so
I never really paid attention to it but the proximity sensor should only kick in when you put phone up to your face.
Just test it, make a call, cover the proximity sensor with your finger and see if the screen turns off.

I am having the same issue, either it turns the screen off and i need to hit the power or the screen stays on and I face press ass the buttons.
I'm using the Bell Canada ONE. I just sent it out for repair for messed up speakers, didn't even think about the proximity sensor.. But, from what HTC told me, if I send the phone out 3 times for repair they just give you a new one... so i'll wait, if I send it again for proximity, it will be 3rd time.

Hi I have just got a HTC radar as a company phone and am getting some odd behavior when dialling
Sometimes it works like expected other times when I press call the screen goes off and will not come back on no matter what I do until the other end pick the call up
Now that's not so bad until you call voicemail when nothing makes screen come on ie tried moving away from anything (in case proximity sensor turning it off ) tried the on/off button volume even camera button nothing works so I can't press option 1/2 etc
Only way I can end the call is to remove bottom cap and take sim card out
This happens on around 50% of all calls and is really bugging me , if its connected to a bluetooth car kit ,the car kit can end it ok
Everytime on bt kit the screen goes off with pressing call
Anyone else having this problem?

Do you have a screen protector? If so it could be one of poor quality and is interfering with your screen. Remove it if you got it. Also it can mess up your ambient light sensor/proximity sensor.

I'm having the same issue too. But i do have it all the time, with every single call i make.
Lets test something here:
Grab a flashlight and turn it on
Cover the light sensor in the upper left with your finger and make sure the 3 capacitive buttons light up.
Uncover them
Now shine the flash light directly into the light sensor
Did the lights turn off? If not get your phone replaced. If they did then you or something is covering the light sensor. The light sensor can turn the screen off at around 1".
I wrote to HTC, they replied after 1-2 hours:
"this is a functional problem caused by a sensor inside the phone" ... "if you can please do get a replacement phone if you have just bought the phone"

For me, the light turned off. In fact I do not need to shine a torchlight. If I cover the top part of the display the 3 capacitive buttons light up. If I uncover, the light disappear. Any ideas? The screen is turning off every time I make a call.
That tests the ambient light sensor(s) - most phones have 2 or 3 - but it doesn't test the proximity sensor... (because the button lights should be tied to the ambient).
Either way, I have not heard of this issue, though HTC has pushed out a firmware update over zune for the Titan recently. I'd recommend to check that, and if there is no update/doesn't fix, then replace the phone.

o.0!? The proximity sensor is normally a led rangefinder in the infrared frequencies. Light sensor could cause lots of false positives...

Fixed the problem. You must remove the clear stock screen protector...it distorts the sensor.
I've been saying that all along
I did a test. Peeled off a bit of the screen protector, enough to expose the sensor. Made a call. The screen didn't blank. So it's the screen protector.
Hi guys I have just recently bought a Radar from bay and im having the same problem, but this time there is no screen protector.
If I cant get a refund form the seller, can I get a warranty repair seeing as though im a second owner?

Hello Dear XDA members,
So I have an Amaze that you guys helped me root and install custom ROM on back in Jan, thanks! Now the power button is going out, it's very hard to turn the screen on and off. I have been using the camera button to turn the screen on but I can't turn it off with that button. If the phone runs out of battery I have a really hard time turning it back on.
I called HTC and they said I they will send me an RMA code but they didn't, after a few days I called back and they said while its still under warranty they can't help me because the phone was a demo unit originally. Well I got it from Craigslist not Tmobile so maybe that's why.
Anyway, is there a way to fix the button? I mean 11 months is a very short period for a $599 phone! Anyone knows how to fix this? I really appreciate it. Thanks !!
Ouch. I bought mine from craigslist too but checked my imei before buying. You can use a widget that will act as as power button. See if you can still push the button with ease if you take the phone out of its frame.

Well I guess his biggest sticking point is how to turn the phone on without a working power button. Same thing happens with Nexus One and there are easy workarounds (by plugging in and remove/insert battery repetitively). Is there such a work around for the Amaze?

I came from the nexus one to the amaze when it came out. Having broken power button phobia from the start, I've found "screen off and lock" from market for turning off the screen, and "quick boot" also from the market for reboot, etc. Don't know of any methods off hand to turn it on, once off...
I did however notice that with the back plate off it's easier to get a firm click pushing the power button with just my finger.

Check to see if its the actual button thats not working properly, or if its the back cover. My phone sometimes doesn't have the power button register when i press it down the first time, but its just the button on the back cover that's wearing down and not making contact with the phone. Take a look and hopefully thats all it is, and all you have to do is replace the back cover which runs you anywhere from 10-15 bucks on ebay :good:
google 'button remapper apk' and use it to set your camcorder button as your new power button.

What andy55 said works but only if the phone isn't completely off. This only works in sleep mode.
Also, try taking off the back cover and press and hold the rubber area with your fingernail where the power button should be. I found the button on the cover wasn't making adequate contact with the phone.
After my bootload unlock and root, my softkeys don't work, help!
working fine here not sure what would have caused that
I just realized its an auto lighting issue, cover your light and proximity sensor and they come on. Voila!
I find something new/different every couple hours it seems like.

Mine do light up. It needs to be dark or you need to cover up the sensor.
turn off your lights or go in a dark room. They DO light up and if yours don't, you have an issue.

Mine have been intermittent. Sometimes they light up and most of the time they don't. I love it when they work, it really helps. I keep missing the right spot for the back button unless I can see it. Mine would turn on when I rotated the phone to landscape and then go off again when rotated back to portrait. For the last hour they've been on all the time.
I just tried the light sensor theory and it's 100% right. I shined a bright flashlight at the ambient light sensor and the buttons turned off. Took the flashlight away and the buttons turned back on.
edit: crap, I spoke too soon. They turned off again and now won't turn on no matter what I do. They came on for a few seconds and then went off again. Now they're still off. I look forward to seeing them again soon, just wish I knew what makes them stay lit up.

My keys don't turn on unless I'm in a totally dark room, with no lights on anywhere. Frankly I think it's pretty stupid. I can't see the keys at all for about 90% of the time I'm using it. It would be nice to have a switch to just turn them on and leave them on. Maybe a widget but would probably require root.

If this phone weren't so awesome in every other way the (un)lighted buttons would be a deal breaker for me. It's pissing me off although I know eventually I'll get used to where the keys are supposed to be. The few times when the keys light up makes me pissed off for all the times when they don't.
If your keys stay lit all the time there must be a setting somewhere to turn them on. ??
Maybe a poll would be appropriate - see if this is a big problem or if I have a defective phone.

I got my HTC One from AT&T about a week ago and have been extremely happy with it over all, until yesterday when all the sudden the vibration motor got really week. I can hear the motor spin when an event such at touching the home button should trigger vibration, but it can barely rattle the phone. Is this something that would be considered a serious enough problem to have the phone exchange at the AT&T store without having to pay the restocking fee?
I would assume there wouldn't be a problem..they will probably just compare the vibration with the phones on display with yours to see if it's an issue. Usually someone in the store has the device as well for comparison.

I just got to work and it is definitely a problem it seems, it will vibrate for notifications but there is no longer haptic feedback on pressing the home/back buttons or on the key press on the HTC Keyboard. If this doesn't constitute a hardware defect I honestly don't know what could.

That sounds like a mistake I would make, but that doesn't seem to be the case this time. Power Saver is off and it still only vibrates for notifications, even after rebooting and even trying a factory reset to see if somehow I had messed something up accidentally.
My power button broke on my phone and so I purchased what was described as a "pulled from working phone" circuit board with power ribbon. Now when a call connects my screen automatically turns off. Depending on which ROM I either can do nothing until the call disconnects or I can press the power button and the screen turns on.
Anybody have any ideas on how to stop the madness. It is quite frustrating.
It sounds like a proximity sensor issue. It would be up there next to the power cable ribbon. Can you check to see if it isn't being obstructed or loose?

It is more of a software issue. I was using CM12 and when a call connected the screen would turn off and would not come back on until the call disconnected and if the screen was off and a call came in the screen would not turn on and you could not make it come on. I am now using Sense Six from Santod. Screen still turns off when a call connects but the power turns it back on and with an incoming call the screen actually turns on. Thank you for posting though.

When the sensor recognizes "near" it will have the screen shut off during a call. That is why I suggest it is the sensor. Also you having the issue after you dealing with hardware near the sensor seems it is more than likely hardware than software.
Hitting the power button on some roms will turn the screen on and override the "near/far" of the sensor. Do a search for "rezound proximity sensor calibrator" on Google Play. Check to see if you are getting near/far correctly.
Edit: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.incredicontrol.ProxSensorCalibrator just checked and it does show near/far for my phone correctly. This app works for pretty much all HTC phones to calibrate the prox sensor.

You would have to play with the settings. Best bet would be putting your finger over the sensor while in the app and scale it until you see near, then put finger away and see if it shows far. Be sure to check the option to "set on boot" when you get it perfect.

Yes, that is right, something is going on. You could have something covering the sensor when you put the power button ribbon in. At least we have checked and see the issue is most likely hardware. It has been awhile since I took my DNA apart, and can't again as it got lost in the mail, so I cannot check to see if the ribbon goes by the sensor.
