Can all Verizon LTE devices do data and voice over 3g?

Actually, IIRC, only HTC devices at this point have two radios that can do simultaneous voice and data. Even then, the voice is being transmitted on the CDMA1x network and data on EVDO.
Thanks for the quick response

I tested this last night while in a 3g only area, and you can indeed use data while on the phone in a 3G area with this phone. IIRC the thunderbolt is capable of this as well.
4G can do silmultaineous data/voice.

Incorrect, I believe the motorola devices cannot. Anandtech's review on the thunderbolt goes over the MANY modems the thunderbolt has.

Qualcomm FTW
Only LTE devices equipped with the a Qualcomm SoC (such as the Rezound & Thunderbolt) have the ability to simultaneous voice and data.

But doesn't the IPhone do it as well? Or is that AT&T I'm thinking about? Either man that's a cool feature. Something I'd use pretty often

It is only on AT&T. They used to have the commercial about talking and surfing on iphone where the guy forgets his anniversary and makes a reservation while talking with his wife.
Only ATT allows it for the iphone.. but ATT is definitely not the only carrier that allows this like they claimed in their commercials. Probably why you don't see those anymore lol. GET SUED!!!! haha
I've been a verizon customer for a day, came from CSpires mess and haven't looked back. Love my actual 3G speeds and the latest and greatest phones. I don't live in a 4G area but new Orleans and mobile are 1.5 hours away. Excited to see what this thing can do on 4g
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk
The quick answer is yes. The Thunderbolt and Rezound can do voice/data over 3G.
The long answer is no. The Thunderbolt and Rezound technically do data over 3G and voice over 1X on a separate radio.
LTE is a data-only protocol for now and voice is done over either 1X (in HTC's case) or eHRPD (in all other LTE phone's case)

My thunderbolt can use data and voice over 3g but my girlfriend LG revolution can not use data and voice over 3g only 4g.

They can't. My droid x couldn't do it over 3g. Only the thunderbolt and rezound can do it on Verizon.

I live in a 3g only area, and today my phone has started showing 4g sporadically.
When the phone shows 4g my data stops working and then all data cuts out and 3g comes back.
I'm running viper Rom with snuzzo kernel. Could this be a software issue? The Verizon website does not have my city listed for current or upcoming 4g availability.

if you know you are in a city with no 4g and dont plan on getting it soon, why not change it to CDMA only? The phone might think its getting a signal from a 4g tower and its causing it to switch like that

This has never happened before today, so I was hoping it was me getting 4g in my area.....
I tried the cdma only setting, and my data as a whole is spotty now. My wife's thunderbolt is doing the same thing now.
Is this what its like when they flip the 4g switch? Does anybody else remember when 4g came on in there area?

they might be testing the 4g radio in your area and it that might be causing it. give it a couple of days, if it doesnt fix you might want to as a vzw rep. for me it was back when tbolt launched when we got 4g
What ROM are you using? I know that on some ROMS, like cyanogenmod, it's actually best to keep phone on the setting that supports multiple data modes.
I live in a town of 15k and we just got 4G, so u may get it after all...

Thank you all for posting about the LTE and 3G problems because I was thinking it was sprints network. I'm now dropping this phone and switching to the S3 or the Optimus G, because the speeds are below 56k dial up modems.
They are rolling out LTE here in Austin and I had my phone next to my coworkers Note2 he was getting 22mbs and I hit 1.5mbs once.
Thank god im withing my 30 day return period at amazon so I'll switch it out for something that works. I tried to wait it out for some sort of software or rom fix but couldn't find anything.

You made the right call. It's well known that ALL EVOs get 1/4 the speed that all other devices do on sprints network....
Really there are too many things that could cause what you are describing here I'm not going to bother trying to help you out, esp since your mind is made up...

LTE is no joke. I've been trying to tell my friends that it makes HSPA + feel like dial up. I only have 2-3 bars right now. I'll come back and post when I can get a better signal.
LA area. Much better than pre jb speeds. Still nowhere near the 40+mbps I was getting in Oakland.

I'm a against picketing but I don't know how to show it.
Makes you think paying for a ISP is a waste when you got LTE. Im on T-Mobile LTE and I average 14-20mbps in washington dc.
I agree. I've been debating dropping Cox internet.. but then I have to pay to tether and even with "unlimited" data.. I'll end up getting throttled..

I have noticed my throttled speeds are higher on LTE than they were when I was on a non 4G phone.
My throttled LTE speeds are actually as fast as my HSPA+ full speed was, (8Mb/s)
Luckily I haven't seen those dial up speeds since I've had my LGOG

Low network speed
I was in an AT&T store playing with various phones (I haven't decided which phone I want yet) and one of the tests I ran was speedtest. Turned off wifi on an HTC One, SGS4, and LGOG. The SGS4 and One both grabbed ~22/~6 down/up speeds, but the LGOG was in the ~6/~2 down/up range. All AT&T employees were really busy, so I couldn't ask them for help.
Can anyone think of a reason why this would happen? I ran the test multiple times. (I didn't try to troubleshoot other than rerunning the test)
The network was probably really bogged down by multiple people using the network off the same tower. "Heavy traffic"..
Correct me if I'm wrong. Just my educated guess.
As you can see from the above speed tests.. the LGOG has no problem getting high speeds
Also did you check to see what network it was on...
4G or HSPA+.... the symbol would have said 4GLTE or 4G respectively

Is anyone else having issues with data connection with HTC one max? I have already swapped out for new phone and still having same issues. I live in LTE coverage and cant even get 3G. Wife has sprint and has no issues. Any ideas?
Thanks
I'm having similar problems, I usually switch to cdma only when texts stop sending. I'm sure it's just a radio issue, hopefully it will resolve itself on the next update.
I had that problem with a one but so far so good on the Max

and call me simple but I love when the spark icon animates...
this is a definite read:

how is the signal inside of your house or other buildings?
I used to have Sprint, and needed an AirRave to work inside my house

Some Sprint Tri-band phone users have had the issue where they can either stay on LTE and get no texts/calls, or it goes from LTE to 3G, but not back, until airplane mode or a restart happens . This is due to the towers in question needing an upgrade. At the worst, it should be fixed by the end of the year.
The only problem I'm experiencing is that my data icon doesn't go away when Im on wifi, anyone else have this problem or a possible fix?

I have quite the opposite situation of you. Coming from my Galaxy Nexus it feels like I have totally new service. I get LTE at places where I barely got 3G on my Nexus.
Looks like I will be going back to AT&T. Data is too important to take the chance that it could get better with new/different radio... Really like the Max ... Service just suxs ...

I guess sprint users have received a software update for this issue...

Have you guys been able to use lte while on the phone? Mine seems to cut all data while on the phone. Back with my note 2 I could only use lte when on the phone.

there was a post somewhere about the data/lte/phone issue; it had to do with the new Spark network they are rolling out, and if I remember correctly, some of the new areas were undergoing a "fix" to remedy this, and was going to be done b4 the end of the year..
I have no problems with this outside of Chicago, where I think our Spark network is "completed"..
smoke this over...

I've had the evo 4g LTE for 1.5 years now.... and really one of my few gripes is the phone does not hold/acquire an LTE signal very well when compared to my wife's s3.... often times she'll have LTE and I'll be stuck on 3g...
I was all set to buy a note3 jan 1. when I am upgrade eligible... but this phone intrigues me and it appears to be $200 cheaper.
I'd really feel dumb to get another HTC phone only to have the same LTE connection issues (btw I live in chicago market)....
I live in the Chicago Market,(burr ridge area) and have fantastic signal now, both for data and for calls, with the new maxx, and my wife has a ONE, and has no issues either..
