Hi
After following this guide: [GUIDE]noob-friendly how to install CWM AND ROOT in 5 INTL and USA .
I followed all instructions exactly as the guide and yet when I boot up their is no CWM app icon. Why is this?
Details:
Model Number: YP-G70
Firmware version: 2.3.5
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-G70UEKI8-CL566269
Build #: Gingerbread.UEK18
P.S. Sorry if I asked a really bad question. This is my first post.
Thanks
CWM replaces the stock recovery on your device. You get into CWM by holding volume up + power simultaneously at the boot screen. I believe there shouldn't be an app for it. I know on some custom ROM you can boot into it by selecting recovery in the power menu.

I found out that their is no icon. You are only able to boot into recovery. Sorry.
If you download ROM Manager from the Play Store, there is a selection for rebooting into recovery as well. It comes in handy.

Hi everyone, i've just received my new Samsung galaxy s2 phone. I'm not sure what tutorial to follow and where to get the correct I9100PBVKI3 file from.
Could anyone help me ASAP pls!

ANDROID VERSION: 2.3.4
BASEBAND VERSION: I9100PBVKI2
KERNEL: [email protected] #2

Why don't you flash an international stock rom with Odin? Take a look at the intratech thread...

thanks hugh. I've just realised that since my s2 has NFC feature on it, it may not work once flashed....any idea which roms will work and how to do this?
I'm not sure but this is the 1st time i saw an i9100P so flashing international stock rom may brick that like i9100G users did.. I'm not sure and lets wait for more answers.. better safe than sorry..

Do you simply want to root the phone in which case use the zergrush option on superoneclick 2.3?
the need to flash an insecure kernel is only required if you want to add CWM which is mainly used for two purposes nandroid backups and simpler flashing of roms. Though I also find the fix permissions useful
the main thing for now is that i want to root, although a custom fw would be great too. What i don't want to do is brick the phone.
Also i heard that if i root it, the warranty is void, there i need to buy some sort of usb to reset a counter????
If you root your phone and then you need the warranty, you have only to flash a stock rom and to reset the flash Odin counter with the jig(even if I think this is not strictly necessary)... But I think it's more useful to have
a rooted phone because you can solve many problems with your hands... In fact Samsung uses Odin to solve a lot of problem... After root make a backup of your rom, wipe data, cache partition and dalvik cache and install a custom rom...CheckROM is great!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA premium app
Anyway if you root the phone with super oneclick using zergrush, you can then install cwm using ROM manager from the market flash whatever the hell you want without the need for Odin or increasing the ROM counter

Thanks very much guys. I've now managed to install checkrom 2.3.6 and darkknight theme. But its not working as i still get the same style layout as my original orange/samsung rom and everything looks the same, such as dialer, notification icons etc. But when i go into ABOUT PHONE, i can see:-
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version i9100xxki4
Kernel Ver: [email protected] #90
Build Number: CheckROM RevoHD V4
What have i done wrong?
Nothing! CheckROM is special because it seems as a stock ROM... But you can personalize it using kitchen pro app... There are themes, modems, kernels, mods and whatever you want... You only have to mark something for installation and to hit apply... But when you want to change theme you have to use the restore package (for example: stock theme, miuimix theme, restore theme package, other theme)... If you want to change kernel,I suggest you to wipe cache partition and dalvik cache before flashing...
Hope this helps!

thanks hugh....the problem is i can't find this kitchen app as its not in my applications, yet its supposed to be installed as standard :S
Try to download it from the rom thread and see if it works...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA premium app
thanks hugh...it works, however, i've installed themes from the kitchen, but the looks are still the same...i must be doing something wrong mate.
hi there
i am so new at this and really need help from you guys.
i have read several thread about how to root your phone and already stuffed with some general ideas of what is rooting, and some terms like rom and kernel. but yet still confused about how to really start the rooting itself.
much of the threads i visit are sort of (as far as i understand) specified for Samsung Galaxy S II GT - I9100 with Ginger Bread 2.3.2 as the firmware. i already updated mine into ics 4.0.3 with specifics below:
baseband version: I9100DXLP7
kernel version: 3.0.15-I9100DXLP7-CL233393 [email protected] #3
build number: IML74K.DXLP7
PDA/PHONE: I9100DXLP7 and CSC: I9100LBLP7
much of the explanation i read, srated with downloading the Odin (attached file), and that's pretty much after where i lost
so please, can anybody help me about this?
thanks in advance, and best regards

I'm sorry, it isnt clear. what exactly do you want help with? Using Odin to flash a custom kernel?
Hi...
Go to ChainFire thread and look for (CF-Root DXLP7) kernel and flash that via Odin.
Second is download ChainFire TriangleAway app to remove the triangle warning on boot.
Thats it you are rooted

yes, i found CF-Root-SGS2_DX_XTC_LP7-v5.4-CWM5.zip, unzipped and rooted the tar in it, and according to ChainFire instruction, i think this one is the right one for my kernel.
although i can't flash kernel as instructed by him:
Instructions - If you already have CF-Root
- Copy the zip file to your SD card
- Stop sharing SD card with computer over USB, unplug the cable, etc
- Applications -> CWM -> Flash kernel. Select the ZIP file on your SD card.
- Done
opened the CWM, but no options available and basically the application is running but nothing really happen
what should i do? thanks
ps. i can't ask ChainFire directly on his thread as i haven't posted stuff more than 10 posts yet

Almost right there fella.....apart from the method to get into recovery mode.....
Hold the power, volume up and home keys from a powered off state, then release the power button only once the boot screen appears........
Holding the volume down button in that combination will get you into download (odin) mode......

I doubt OP understands the whole discussion about Recovery and Download mode, because he doesn't know how to use them.
Bottom line is: Read the guides and threads. They're there for a reason, not to ignore them.
Ahh ok sorry im used to htc phones so skrry didnt know the oems did different things with that but if i had it in my hand i would figure it out

First update your system to 4.1.2 .
Then after update for root alone you should take a look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2116549
Download it and install zip through stock recovery (power+vol up+home when booting)
Search. Guides/tutorials stickied near the top of the General section. If you're having trouble with this, I recommend you leave your phone stock. This is the most often asked question here & has been answered tens of thousands of times, your situation is not unique & doesn't warrant this info being regurgitated for the Nth time especially for you.
update to 4.1.2 jellybean

im just wanting stock as im gonna sell it.
Just go to the Odin thread, read that and get the program. Then go to sammobile, join then fill in the 4 boxes to get the suitable firmware meant for your phone.
Have a look at a guide about say updating from GB to JB,so you know when to factory reset/script clean to avoid any conflicts, and remove sensitive data.....since your selling it.

Everything should be there, just download the latest one. Do make sure to do a factory reset in stock recovery after you have flashed the Jelly Bean ROM via Odin :good:
