Hello, I'm very new to this phone. I bought it yesterday so I apologize on advance if this was already resolved but I can't figure out what to do here. I'm not new to the world of Android and I've never had a problem like this before - using Google Voice anyway.
When I go through the Google Voice setup, it attempts to change my voicemail number from the default carrier (T-Mobile) to GV. However, my carrier number section is grayed out making it impossible to select - to change it.
Has anyone experienced this problem? Has this been resolved?

I would recommend giving out your GV phone number to everybody. Call TM and ask them to disable voicemail on your account.

So I have my shiny new Vibrant. I use the voicemail service Youmail (try it if you have not heard of it. It truly is a great free service) and would like to program that in the VM field so that when I hold 1, it dials that instead of the default TM VM number.
However, when I try to do it, the field is completely greyed out (settings > Call Settings > Voicemail >Voicemail
Anyone able to change theirs or know a way to do it?
Thanks!
I have the same problem. I can change voicemail in contacts, but not in settings, which I assume is how I get "1" to speedial my voicemail. I checked a Captivate and it can edit that field. I called T-mobile and they said I should be able to edit it. I got a new sim, and uninstalled t-mobile visual voicemail. Nothing has worked. Next thing I might try is trying to get grep to run on a shell and see if I can find the file that contains the number and edit it.
If anyone with a Vibrant can edit that field via settings > Call Settings > Voicemail >Voicemail, please reply. It would be help to figure out what's up with this if we know if it's all vibrants or just some.
Go to 'Contacts' and then 'VoiceMail'. There you can change the number.

that does not work... Yes you can change the voicemail number in contacts but that does not affect what the OP is asking to change.
Op,
I do know how to change that number but I would love to change it to my GV number. There is another thread that discusses the matter in a bit more length, have a search for it.
This just needs to be hacked. Doesn't seem like a priority tho so it might be some time.. Would be great if we could just change it to a "contacts" tab.
EDIT: Oh now I see the contacts button down at the bottom next to the "0". I guess we can stick with the voicemail tab.
Then what would replace the contacts button?

i have an android phone so i dont know if its the same. If you go to Settings>Call Setting>Voicemail Settings>Voicemail Number then change it
I can change the number for voicemail in the settings without a problem. And, for google voice, when you install the google voice app you have to go through the setup the first time you open the app and at that time you can change it to google voice or change it in settings also, but all the forwarding information is there when you install the app.

Or you can just add speed dial to one of the other 9 numbers. Go to contacts and click the settings button now select more and then speed dial and chose any of the open spots it will let you select from your contacts. Works just like voicemail does where you press and hold the 1. And you can set all the number pads that way.
Seems easier than hacking the dialer.

My Voicemail was working fine with my pauses and password until the carrier reset something, then the VM number went back to the carrier's original default without my password.
I put the SIM into my old phone, edited the VM number with pauses and password. Turned the old phone off and put the SIM back into the Android phone. My changes persisted and now, once again long-pressing "1" dials my VM with my edits.
Manually creating a contact with the edited VM number and assigning it as a speeddial also works.
It's not a fix, but on my Amaze, short of pleading and begging stupid T-mobile reps (who claimed it was Google Voice's problem, or HTC's hardware problem), I programmed my GV access number to speed dial from "1" in the third party dialer, Dialer One. As long as I'm not using the stock dialer, "1" goes to GV. :fingers-crossed:
Hey all,
So I installed google voice so I could retrieve my voicemails, and there's no option in the new version that allows you to choose when to use google voice for calls.
So now, all of my outgoing calls are using my GVoice number instead of my cell number. I've tried signing out of GVoice as well as digging through all of the settings and it still remains. It even sends from my GVoice number when I text.
Anybody having this problem?
Thanks!
Nevermind.. Figured it out.
But for anyone wondering, you have to log into your account through the web and disable GVoice on your phone. You'll still get voicemails, but it won't call/text from that number.
So the issue is Google Voice app is now aware of being installed on a Sprint phone. The app will automatically integrate your service with GV is you dont pay attention. You can click "skip" when you first install and then it will convert to the normal install screens we are use to seeing. I totally missed it when I first installed, spent time on the phone with tech support etc. Hope this helps others.
I had the SAME problem and took me about a half hour to figure out what the hell was going on
Me too. I wasn't getting any SMS and I was like "what the [email protected]*K! Spent some time on the phone w/ tech support myself and that's when it dawned on me that I had integrated it w/ my HeroC.
I don't know if thus is the same issue but all my texts are coming through gv instead if the message app. Stock message app and I only use gv for vm. Any suggestions?

Uninstall GV
Go to GV on your computer and unlink your sprint and google number
Install GV
CLICK SKIP ON THE FIRST SCREEN!!!! <== for most people who use GV we dont read this but this is where it asked you to integrate your Sprint and GV number
??????
Profit!
Okay I somehow fixed my sms issue and now I have another issue. When I get a call or call my self from a seperate phone...on the calling phone, it rings normally. After about 4 rings, my phone, receiving the call, will start to play the ringtone which gives me 2 or so rings to answer. I have no idea what happened

Good evening,
I need help with my Google voice and re-integrating my Sprint mobile number with it. I guess a while back I un-integrated the number and now it wont let me re-integrate it again. I don't want anything to do with the Google voice number, I want to use my Sprint number for everything but every time I try to enable it, it gives me an error and I heard its because I had un-integrated it before. Any way around this? I have some more information below that might help you help me
When I try to change my Google voice number to my mobile number, I put it my sprint number and click on option 1 which is Use your sprint mobile number with Google voice, I click continue and get the following message: "Unfortunately, Google voice cannot be enabled on this Sprint phone. Please contact sprint for more details as to why this cannot be enabled." It is currently showing the number Google voice gave me.
When I click on check eligibility for sprint integration (using my mobile number) under "forward calls to" and click on option 1, verify my phone, it tells me the following: Unfortunately, Google voice cannot be enabled on this Sprint phone. Please contact sprint for more details as to why this cannot be enabled. I did this and they told me to try the following day but its the same thing over and over again.
Activating Google voice mail on this phone DOES work but its useless without the full integration.
Any ideas on how to fix this is very appreciated. I am regretting the day I un-integrated it.
Thanks guys!
Instead of integrating with sprint, press skip, configure, select voicemail provider, dial configuration number and it works.
All credit goes to LiquidSolstice, who wrote an awesome guide on setting it up.

Since no one is going to be able to help me, can I atleast get a link that guide your talking about?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416590
Thanks for the link but that only helps you to set it up if your number has never been integrated before.
call sprint. This had happened to me where my google voice number took over my phone and i needed to unintegrate it. Sprint has a department that can assist with that.
Yeah that's exactly what happened to be and that's the reason I had to delete it completely. I'll give it a shot. Thanks.

did u fix it?
I decided not to do it until google voice supports MMS.
Evolution is speaking in 3 dimensions using XDA Premium
Actually, google voice was supporting mms before.. its just forwards the picture messages to your email..

Hello everyone,
I currently have two Google Voice numbers, one for personal and one for work. I'd like to be able to use them both on my phone, but I'm not entirely sure how I'd go about doing it. I saw this thread but it never got any response.
I want to use my personal Google Voice number with my main Google Voice app, but be able to access my work Google Voice number through another app or some other way.
Does anyone out there have any idea how I could go about doing this?
Thanks!
Ricky

I would say access one with the app.
The other in browser set your cell number to receive text messages (regular SMS app) / calls.

I've tried several times to switch from ATT voicemail service to GV and it fails, even after rooting (not sure that matters, but ).
It (GV) shows up as an option, but attempts to switch fail.
Anyone know of a solution?

I had to manually enter the codes into the handset. Not sure why it didn't work automatically, but it is easy to do manually. Just go to google voice in your browser then under settings there is an activate google voice on this phone link which gives you the correct things to dial in order to set it up.
I just made the switch to Google voicemail after I couldn't get AT&T's visual voicemail to work on the phone. Had to enter all the forwarding numbers manually as above.
In the GV app there is an option to integrate voicemail into the system dialer (View and play voicemails from the call log). That particular feature doesn't seem to be supported by the HTC dialer app, only by AOSP dialers. Does anyone know of a workaround or a way to get this integrated?

yeah I also couldn't get mine to work. I set the numbers manually in the Call Forwarding section of the phone
Can someone post a step by stop on how to switch google voice? I'm sure a bunch of users other than me would like a foolproof guide.
Which visual voicemail are you guys talking about? Have you tried this one? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018018
or are you talkin about the one that comes stock on the phone? This will work, you just have to call ATT and have them make sure Visual Voice mail is provisioned for your account. It is not there by default. THe stock ATT messages app (which has a crappy VVM) doesnt require additional provisions, but the VVM.apk above does. Here is another thread in the regular ATT HOX forum that has more info. I've tried both, and the VVM is way better than google voice. It's worth the time to call ATT, maybe more than once, to get VVM working. I ended up calling 3 times. Low level customer support does not have a clue..Once i got to a real tech, they had it done in 45 seconds. Hope this helps. Good luck!
