Okay. What about a folder where I can find the contents of the long press search key with root Explorer. That way I can add it to the folder..?

Not sure if this is what you need but,go to system/usr/keylayout/ cy8c201xx.kl
Here is where the hardware keys are bound to some actions.

So I went into that code changed it. But it didn't work. So I changed it back. Well now my home key doesn't work nor does haptic feedback. Notification keeps popping up in the notification bar and says choose input method. Please help. I've installed SwiftKey and wiped data for Android keyboard. I have also checked against another phone that is working fine the folders in usr/key layout.

First rule before you edit any system file is to make a backup...
Any way if you used rootexplorer to edit that file it should have made a backup on it's own so if you look in your folder there should be a file with .bak at the end,so,move it out of there so you can rename it (remove .bak) and just put it back, rootexplorer will ask or tell you theres already a file with that name and if you want to replace it,just hit yes, then reboot you device.
Sent from my XT910 using xda premium
I did that but it didn't work. I think it changed another file. It seems that it wants to keep going back to an external hardware keyboard. The one that it changed was querty.kl. I'll send pics.

Ya that was the first one I changed the "cy" file, then I went through all folders in the keymap folder and looked for differences against a control. The only one that seemed to change was the query file. Your page was unresponsive.

xTMFxOffshore, what worked for me is downloading the .apk from link 4, moving it to the system /app folder via root explorer, changing permissions to rw-r--r--, then changing the owner to 0-root and group to 0-root, and renaming the original LatinIME.apk to LatinIME2.apk and renaming the downloaded .apk to LatinIME.apk and rebooting. Hope this works for you. The only difference I saw however is that I wasn't able to find the original back in the same folder.. lol. so back it up like fnztakedown suggested if you wanted to switch back later
Anyone have any screen shots of this keyboard? And thanks Man. I will try that if I decide to go with this keyboard.

I have a rooted Droid X2 and am currently running Liberty 3. I would like to add a boot animation sound to the phone. Can some one provide some guidance on how this can be accomplished?
I have a write up ill find it
Edit: I can't find it but google how to android bootanimation and there is plenty of articles
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Open the bootanimation.zip (under system/media/) and you will see a desc.txt file. That controls the animation. Open the text file and you will see something like
p 0 0 part0
The p declares that to be a part or element
Underneath that line, type
s (file name)
Or
s bionicsound.ogg
Make sure you put the sound file in system/media/audio folder
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Thank you for the information. I've found the file that you mentioned, but cannot figure out how to edit it? Any ideas?
You can edit it on your comp. I haven't tried to edit it with my phone. I don't think you can edit it with your phone always. You'd have to decompile and recompile it if you do it on your phone. But you can use 7zip on windows and skip the compiling stuff.

I believe the sound file should be placed in
system/media/audio folder/notifications.
But that's just My opinion I could be wrong
Yes, you are correct. The file needed to be placed in the notifications folder. Does anyone know how to increase the volume of the audio file? Is that even possible?
Oh yeah sorry, my bad. The only way to increase it is to use an editing program to increase the decibel.

Thanks, let me know when you can.
is it hard?
(Need to be rooted)
I use root explorer and go into:
/system/usr/keylayout/tegra-kbc.kl
Copy file into another folder
open copy with text editor and just switch the two numbers next to home and back save it.
Now paste back in to folder u copied from and replace the old one
Now just restart for changes to take effect.
All done

You most definitely can use custom boot animations! I'm currently using the CM9 animation from here in the forums!

To elaborate on what others have said, you only need root because you only need to be able to access the location of where the boot animation resides.
I believe there are two locations you can change, though I have always done so at /system/media.

Make sure you've renamed the zip to bootanimation.zip. Throw it in system/media. No permission change is necessary.

well I add to the part on desc, txt s Bionic.oog then I rezip and name bootanimation.zip.... in system.media naming other customboot animation someone else made bootanimation.zip.bak(which fires work so IDK y mine doesn't.... and turn off, restart device.... I've played with permissions too. no luck

Did you download the bootanimation in post #8?
If you are using ES File Explorer, go to settings and make sure "Mount File System" is checked.
You should not have to change permissions. Since you have been changing the permissions, they should be checked as follows
User: Read; Write
Group: Read
Other: Read

If it still doesn't work after taking out the sound, try re-downloading the edited file from Sham-rock, renaming it to bootanimation.zip and copying it to /system/media/ folder to see if it works then. If it does, than try editing it again and adding the sound...

See if u can do the 4 corner touch bypass (youtube if needed) then go into settings-accounts and sign into your Google account if needed. If all goes well try activating your phone from the dialer. I can't remember what thing to dial so see if u can locate a computer or someone else's phone and Google it
