I have a rooted Droid X2 and am currently running Liberty 3. I would like to add a boot animation sound to the phone. Can some one provide some guidance on how this can be accomplished?
I have a write up ill find it
Edit: I can't find it but google how to android bootanimation and there is plenty of articles

Open the bootanimation.zip (under system/media/) and you will see a desc.txt file. That controls the animation. Open the text file and you will see something like
p 0 0 part0
The p declares that to be a part or element
Underneath that line, type
s (file name)
Or
s bionicsound.ogg
Make sure you put the sound file in system/media/audio folder

Thank you for the information. I've found the file that you mentioned, but cannot figure out how to edit it? Any ideas?
You can edit it on your comp. I haven't tried to edit it with my phone. I don't think you can edit it with your phone always. You'd have to decompile and recompile it if you do it on your phone. But you can use 7zip on windows and skip the compiling stuff.

I believe the sound file should be placed in
system/media/audio folder/notifications.
But that's just My opinion I could be wrong
Yes, you are correct. The file needed to be placed in the notifications folder. Does anyone know how to increase the volume of the audio file? Is that even possible?
Oh yeah sorry, my bad. The only way to increase it is to use an editing program to increase the decibel.

Is there one that you recommend?

I couldn't help with that haha
Sorry, I'd check out Google for that. I'm sure you could find a free simple one to use.

Did you end up finding the software to increase it? and did it work?
im having the same issue. i pulled one of my transformer notification sounds, converted it from MP3 to OGG format which worked, but like you, i can barely here it.

Tiny little mod out of boredom.
Linda will speak when you charge
Extract the file.
Push to /system/media/audio/ui
you can overwrite existing or add .bak to it
plug your phone to charger to see if it worked.
Enjoy
Cool

Confirmed working. Nice mod. I might have to add this to my next build.

"power source connected, battery charging."
I like this idea. I always get funny looks when I reboot my phone b/c of linda's voice. Would be neat to have a full suite too, but hey, let's see how linda works. Seems worth the time investment to have something so sweet available
Edit: Just pushed the file, and the voice seems to have a little more resonance than the Linda voice on shutdown. I'm gonna mod it a bit for fun and see what I can come up with
Edit 2: Apparently sound editing isn't my strong suit. Oh well, I guess I'll stick with what I know

doesn't matter where you extract it. as long as u put the extracted file in the right folder/directory.
if you say root explorer sees the directory as read only, check the top right corner.
tap the little r/o button make sure it reads r/w then paste the file there.
Use favorite root explorer and move to /system/media

Looks good! CM7 boots so fast that the animation doesn't even make it all the way through
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
Lol yeah its kinda long stock it barley gets to the end
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
If you wipe dalvik cache it usually lets you see the full animation due to longer boot.
Looks good on the qHD display. The red really pops!
Nice boot animation!
I found the droid razr boot up sound and I have it installed and everything but is there a way to make it louder? The desc.txt thats already in this bootanimation zip was already set up so all I did was move the sound to the /system/audio/notification folder. It just plays so low.
Open up the file in an editor and bump up the volume that way. Audacity is free, I believe and should get the job done.

Was in the atrix forums and someone had already amplified the boot sound. I'm good to go now.
Score! That saved you some work/time.

You most definitely can use custom boot animations! I'm currently using the CM9 animation from here in the forums!

To elaborate on what others have said, you only need root because you only need to be able to access the location of where the boot animation resides.
I believe there are two locations you can change, though I have always done so at /system/media.

Make sure you've renamed the zip to bootanimation.zip. Throw it in system/media. No permission change is necessary.

I just downloaded to re-test what I uploaded earlier and it works. Can you provide the steps you are following to move the bootanimation to system/media?
well I add to the part on desc, txt s Bionic.oog then I rezip and name bootanimation.zip.... in system.media naming other customboot animation someone else made bootanimation.zip.bak(which fires work so IDK y mine doesn't.... and turn off, restart device.... I've played with permissions too. no luck

Did you download the bootanimation in post #8?
If you are using ES File Explorer, go to settings and make sure "Mount File System" is checked.
You should not have to change permissions. Since you have been changing the permissions, they should be checked as follows
User: Read; Write
Group: Read
Other: Read

I downloaded and tried the bootanimation from the quoted post and it worked perfectly! Only thing I did was obviously renamed it but didn't change any permissions or anything.

If it still doesn't work after taking out the sound, try re-downloading the edited file from Sham-rock, renaming it to bootanimation.zip and copying it to /system/media/ folder to see if it works then. If it does, than try editing it again and adding the sound...

I'm have a RAZR MAXX on .211 rooted and I'd like to change the notification/ringtone sound for the Emergency Alerts app but I can't find the sound file. Does anyone know the directory/folder it can be found in?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda premium
Hi, On my rooted ICS XT910, the following folder has a load of sub folder with sound files:
/system/media/audio/
I hope this is what you're looking for.
Type in any root explorer
.ogg
It will return all media system sounds.
Cheers

Has anyone ever found the file name?
Emergency Alert File
I found it on my HTC One as the following:
/system/media/mms/atis_tia_cmas_alert.mp3
I have replaced the file with a different sound, and I guess I'll have to wait for the next alert to see if it worked.
I'm trying to add screenshot it back to my long press search button. The only fields that are showing are Google search and screen off. Razr maxx 4.1.2 rooted stock rom. Help please.

Okay. What about a folder where I can find the contents of the long press search key with root Explorer. That way I can add it to the folder..?

So I went into that code changed it. But it didn't work. So I changed it back. Well now my home key doesn't work nor does haptic feedback. Notification keeps popping up in the notification bar and says choose input method. Please help. I've installed SwiftKey and wiped data for Android keyboard. I have also checked against another phone that is working fine the folders in usr/key layout.

First rule before you edit any system file is to make a backup...
Any way if you used rootexplorer to edit that file it should have made a backup on it's own so if you look in your folder there should be a file with .bak at the end,so,move it out of there so you can rename it (remove .bak) and just put it back, rootexplorer will ask or tell you theres already a file with that name and if you want to replace it,just hit yes, then reboot you device.
Sent from my XT910 using xda premium
I did that but it didn't work. I think it changed another file. It seems that it wants to keep going back to an external hardware keyboard. The one that it changed was querty.kl. I'll send pics.

Ya that was the first one I changed the "cy" file, then I went through all folders in the keymap folder and looked for differences against a control. The only one that seemed to change was the query file. Your page was unresponsive.
