Hi friends,
I'm wondering is there a way to access system files of Android (JB version) and make changes from Windows? Is it possible do that in fastboot mode, without switching on?

Hi, thanks for offering help!
Recently, I have rooted my phone and copied several fonts to display texts in my local dialect. For that I have changed the system_fonts.xml file and replaced it in /system/etc folder using Root Explorer. I made a change subsequently for system_fonts.xml and accidentally without copying the specified font to font folder, rebooted the system. Phone is keep on loading in searching this font file to load,... even it is connected to PC, not detecting properly,... any help!

Hi everyone,
can anybody tell me how I can change the font of the stock SE lockscreen? I don't want to use an app for this (lockbot, etc). Just want to change the font or the images the clock uses. Help me please!
G.
The font is in the framework-res in the assets folder.
And how can I edit that? It is in the framework, extract is ok, but how can create an .apk after change font? Thanks for help anyway.

By pulling the contents, modding, then pushing them back. Read the theme reference thread for tips.
Great! Thanks again!!!
And if i'm ready (change font, rename as an apk), should I paste over the original apk by RE for example? Is that all?

No need to be renaming anything. Just open the apk as you would any other zip and pull the files, after modding them just drag and drop them back into the framework.apk. Some say you can use RootExplorer to overwrite the original but I've done it twice in the past and both times the phone stuck at boot, so recommend using adb to push back to the phone and install.
That's why I asked, cuz last two times the same happened to me, device frozen in boot. May I use QtADB? It looks working easier for me.

You can use whatever, so long as you can push and install files, like MrRusch's Mod Tool
Do you use it anyway? (x10ModTool)

No, I prefer using adb directly.
qtADB should be ADB with a GUI, an user friendly version of it. Thanks.
done, but nothing changed. Is it sure those fonts to be changed? Is it possible to create a kind of a zip able to flash by x-rec?
I am very new to all of this. I have posted a few things already about getting webtop over HDMI. I think i am closer. I have the apk files for dockservice and portalapp on my phone using root explorer. It doesnt let me change the permissions or install the apk. I dont really know how to do ABD on a mac. what am i missing?
When using Root Explorer, are you selecting "R/W" at the top before trying to change permissions?

I also have changed two of the .odex files to .bak but i could not find the third. Then I try to install the .apk files and they will not download. I don't know where to go from here

Hi there
You should not install the .apk's like normal installation.
Just copy them into the folder, change the permissions, and rename the 2 files.
Reboot.
remember to remount the folder as R/O after you changed the permissions.
Cool
This is gonna make me sound stupid but is there a special way to reboot? Or do you just turn off the phone?
I turned my phone off and back on and now when I plug in the hdmi cable I get no popular but my monitor instead of saying no hdmi signal, it shows a black screen but recognizes something. I feel like im getting closer!

When you plug it into the monitor, does it do anything on the device? Or nothing?
Try another HDMI port, if your TV has 2....
I only have on hdmi on my monitor. Before trying to do this i could go into entertainment center. but now i do not get that poppup nor does it show up in my notification bar

Cool, what OS version do you have one your phone 2.2.2 or 2.3.4?
i have 2.3.4
Which build version are you using under system->about phone->build number?
Make sure you are using the right files for your phone. Should be 3 different sets of files available in the zip file from the original post.
I am on 4.5.91. I may have put the wrong files on. Shall i delete all the wrong ones and do what i did before?
I just redid what i did before with the correct files. here is the moment of truth...
it is doing the exact same thing as before did i miss a step?
I just want to make sure. Your using the files from the AT&T folder correct? Did you reboot your phone? Did you set the correct file permissions?
Hope it works out for you.
I got my files from Version 4.5.91 Users Go HERE: (This works now.) ATRIX 4.5.91 WEBTOP MOD FILES
i also rebooted and set the correct permissions
Try this instead:

And i do not ever install the apk's?

Is there any chance we could get the icons and the clock widget of the Vertu Ti?
That is, if anyone is willing to shell out 5K on a phone just for the sole purpose of extracting .apks from it.
If you guys tell me how I can extract the apks.

If u have a Ti(obviously),then first i think u need to get it Rooted (sometimes stock recovery does it too)in order to extract a widget that came preinstalled, then after u root it,use root explorer to go to system/app and then look out for the widget.apk's ..
Similarly, for the icons, look for the app in system/app(using root explorer, and then copy the .apk to ur sd card, put the file on ur desktop, rename it as a zip file, extract it .
Then go to the folder called res, then drawable-hdpi and all icons will be there in .png format.
But all this is useless if u havent got it rooted, because I think u wouldn't risk to lose warranty on such a phone..
Hope this helps

It helps, though there's no root solution as of now. I don't know where to start for the root, technical support won't help. Neither will the internet. There's already a topic on XDA but no solutions.
I think you don't need root for this.
Enable USB debugging, install phone drivers to your computer, then do adb pull /system/ path-to-dump-folder.
interesting...

I've yet to find appropriate drivers to connect to ADB. Whatever I do the phone also connects the MTP at the same time even if PTP is chosen. Any help would be much appreciated as I'd also like to backup the device via ADB. With the latest updates the phone is now running 4.2.2.
If I am not wrong, Root explorer does work on non-rooted phone.
you can access the /system partition for copying stuffs. (as you can understand without root it will only work in 'read only' mode).
Hi,
I was able to root my Ti using farmaroot just google it fairly simple method. You can also unroot to with this tool which is a plus. But I would like to know how do I access its recovery? Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
Somebody own Vertu here?
You can extract system apps quick and easy, without root, without any risk using this tool: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ext.ui&hl=en
I'm new user, I must tolerate these idiotic rules, so I can't post links. So, please, copy this link, and open it yourself.
Hi guys, before I start I'll say that I have searched all over the internet and here on the forums and I couldn't find my particular issue. Well the thing is that I edited the line in my build.prop "ro.build.version.codename=REL" to "ro.build.version.codename=L" so I could get the material design on the Google Now Launcher pulled from a Android L build here's the thread I got that app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-android-lollipop-apps-launcher-apps-t2912905
I did that and now my device will boot up normally then I will reboot by itself then show the boot animation then repeat the same process again and again until I force the phone to recovery or fastboot.
By the way my device is the LG Optimus G (E970) running GEE 3 ROM 1.2 and TRWP 2.6.3.0 and I have a backup of the original build.prop on my PC. I don't want to lose my data and apps since I forgot to make a backup (silly me).
I would like to know if there is a way to push the build.prop file on my PC to my phone so I could just replace it, or create a flashable zip.
Please help me, and thanks in advance.
Nevermind. I managed to push the original build.prop file to /system set the correct permissions and now my phone is working again.
Admin feel free to delete or close this thread.

I want to copy a file to the /system/fonts folder, but no matter what file explorer I use, they are all failing to copy any file to the folder. On ES File Explorer, I get "Permission denied," but when the system is mounted Rewritable, I get "Task Failed." Yes, my phone is rooted. Can anyone please help me out? Thanks.

Did you enable Root-Explorer in ES File explorer? Just go into the left menu scroll down and check it :good:

Yes, it was enabled. I found out that changing the system to Rewritable may have caused the error. I have an app called Emoji Switcher that always worked whenever I had to change Emojis from Google to ios7. When I installed this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blogspot.superthomaslab.mountsystemrorw&hl=en and set the system to RW, Emoji Switcher could no longer change the emoji file in the /system/fonts folder. I was forced to restore a nandroid backup, luckily without losing data. But I want to know what to do the next time I need to modify the /system folders when it doesn't let me.

cant really help you, but i may be able to offer some info.
im guessing you are either running Marshmallow, or have a nexus running stock?
if no, then the rest may be irrelevant.
i believe it was in M, google implemented some sort of system write protection, it can be bypassed but i dont know how off hand.
on nexus's, with the M update, google has the system so full, even with write ability, you may not be able to because there is no room.
maybe that will help you to look for a fix, maybe not lol

I have a Moto G 2nd Generation running 5.0.2. Although the info is irrelevant for me, I'll take it if I upgrade to Marshmallow. In my case, I'll just avoid changing the system directory manually for now. Thanks for both of your help!

it is usually best to try and post in your devices forum, as everyone there has your device, and may be able to help more.
