[Q] xoom power button - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Motorola Xoom WiFi's power button has stopped working properly. I believe that the button does work as I can use it to perform soft reset(pwr+vol up). But, it does not put the device to sleep or wake it. Not sure what happened... I took the device off of the charging dock four days ago and it has not worked since. Also does not remember my WiFi password if the screen times out. Once this happens I have to use power+ volume up to turn it on again. Waiting for reboot each time sucks. I would appreciate any help as I am somewhat of a noob. Thank you.

[Q] Hard reset with power button

Alright, I just bought my Dad a tab 10.1 yesturday since I found a really good deal on one. My problem is that when the tab freezes the only way to get it working is to hold the power button (about 10 seconds) from what I understand is that it should soft reset the device, but in our case it's being completely reset to factory settings. So is there another way to restart the tab? (On my Xoom it's Power and Vol Up) and is there anyone else having this issue? (pretty much, is this normal behavour?)
Now I'm not afraid to root and do all the goodness that is out there as I have done that on my Xoom and my Nexus One both of which were rooted within hours of recieving them, but since this is my Dads I would prefer not to.
The Tab is running 3.1, Kernal is 2.6.36.3 and the build is HMJ37.XXKG6 P7510XXKG6
Thanks for any insights
In order to reboot it, shut it down by holding the power button for 2 seconds until it shows the pop up menu - choose Power Off. When it is off, press the power button for 2 seconds again and it will start up.
baha that's a good one. As if I didn't try that already. The issue is that it was completely unresponsive to everything except a forced reboot. Too late regardless, it was returned yesturday.

Can't get a shutdown menu on my CM7 touchpad.

For some reason I can't shut my touchpad down. If I hold the power button down, not much happens until I release the button. Then the screen turns off. Tap it again and it's back.
Any ideas?
thats strange try a hard reset, hold the power button and the home button down for literally a minute or so or until it resets. it will reboot into moboot hopefully. you might have to do that and go back into webos to completely shut down. good luck
Thanks for the reply, I was just trying it when the battery ran out!
But I'll give it a go if the problem returns, thanks.
Ran into the same problem today. The power menu, along with various power/reboot widgets wouldn't work, but after about 20 seconds of holding home+power it worked and booted to moboot.
I had this happen to a coworker, after I had recently upgraded her to alpha3. I tried everything to repair it before deciding to start from scratch. The best thing to do is restart using the power and home buttons (hold them until reboot).
Then think about reinstalling.
Good luck!

I had this same issue today. I downloaded Quick Boot from the app store and it allowed me to restart. Worked great
just happened me too, it MAY have something to do with low battery, i noticed someone above had the problem with low battery. mine happens to be low too
also, i turned off lockscreen earlier, maybe that was related.

Nook tablet won't turn back on!?

So I used my nook tablet all day yesterday and this morning. I put it down to goto lunch.. came back and noticed my wifi was not on.. I checked settings and it showed "Wifi turning off" and it was grayed out and just stuck.
I've seen this before with other android devices so no biggie. I powered the unit off.
Now it won't turn back on. Holding the power button now for about 20 secs and nothing.
The battery is at like 80% and I even plugged it in to see if it helped but no good.
I did root it at 1.4.0 and used the Block OTA method with titanium backup but nobody else seems to have a problem.
Is there a way to boot in recovery or something ? Perhaps a trip back to B&N will be needed.
Ok.. holding vol down + power for around 8 secs got it back on. Weird
i have noticed this a few times. Not sure why but never lost anything

I had a similar problem. I couldn't get the tablet to turn on. I discovered in a Kindle Fire forum that you could get the Fire to start when stuck in the off position by holding down the power button for 20 seconds. I tried that with my Nook and it started right up.
Thank! That worked! I was having the same issue. Said Wifi was turning off and all went blank and couldn't reboot. You gave me the answer.
Cheers.
I have had the wifi "turning off" issue. Rather than turn off the nook, I used the menu that you get with a long press of the power button when you install either ROM manager or titanium backup, can't remember which. It has rebooted every time without issue.
The Wifi issue is a known problem. You can set the wifi to stay awake when on the charger and this problem wont happen. Add the power widget so that you can turn the wifi off when not connectwd to the charger. This combo fixes the wifi issue. When your Nook experiences a kernel error it will appear as if it is off but if you hold it at angle, you will notice backlight is on. Just hold nook button and power and it will turn off...then power to reboot rom.

Actually, it's happened to me twice while I had WiFi set to never sleep when charging.

I rooted my Nook Tablet and it worked fine yesterday. Now it won't turn on and isn't recognized by my PC. I hear the windows alert when a usb device is connected but when I try to do anything via adb I always get 'error: device not found'.
I tried doing adb get-state and all I got was 'unknown'
I tried booting into recovery via holding the power button + n for various amounts of time, but nothing happened.
Does anyone have any ideas? It was working fine yesterday and I haven't changed anything on it since I used it last.
Hold the power button down for about 10 seconds. let it sit for a minute, then hold the power button for another 5 seconds or so and release. It should boot up. (assuming your battery is charged)

I had to do a reset (power button + Home) twice so far. Each time it happened after I left the tablet to recharge overnight. It did not turn on as it normally does when you unplug the charger.
I must admit that the (power button + Home) reset does not seem to be cut & dry. The routine quoted above worked the first time. The second time, I tried it several times then finally I tried the pwr button by itself and it went on.
Mine just did this Power and vol down got it running again.

[Q] Stuck in APX mode - I believe?

Hi everyone
I'm desperate.
My TF201 (stock - not rooted - and successfully updated to the current version) works flawlessly for the first 3 months and then one day the Volume UP key stop working. Whenever I tried to lower the volume, it will automatically up it again. When this happened, I tried to reboot with the power button but the tablet wouldn't respond. So I pressed the power button a bit longer and it will shut down. But, when I tried to power it again, I will feel the buzz but the screen will remain blank. The first few times that this happened, I used a small pin to reset the tablet and it will reboot normally. However, now this procedure also has stopped working and I cannot get the tablet to boot again. When I plugged it into my PC, it will recognize it as an APX device. I found that if I let the battery drain completely, it will then power up. I have read and tried the different methods mentioned in the forum but to no avail. So after reading sledgie's post in one of the thread, I thought that perhaps the Volume UP key is definitely stuck and that's why it's booting in the APX mode every time. So, I bite the bullet and open the tablet to see if I can fiddle with the volume keys. But alas, even after making sure that the volume key is not getting stuck, the nightmare continues and every time to boot the tablet I have to let the battery drained completely. What I could gather though is that it's definitely the Volume UP key because every time if I could get the tablet to boot, after draining the battery completely of course, when the ICS Home screen will appear the volume icon also will appear by itself. I found that so long as I don't the touch the Volume key, the tablet will work flawlessly and I could press the power button to get it to sleep and to wake normally. But if I touch the Volume key then the power button will not respond.
So, as I said I'm desperate and if anybody has a solution, please advise.
Thanks in advance.
Help!
Anyone?
i think you should exchange it or send it back for RMA. Make sure you contact Gary Key with regards to APX state. I wrote in the other thread without seeing this thread, but this is what it sounds like.
goodintentions made this really good observation and should be given credit

Another kind of situation that nvflash would be useful.

agreed.
Sorry to respond very late but I want to know what this 'nvflash' means and how will it be useful in my situation. Should I 'nvflash' my tablet in the circumstances?
It's not possible yet, unfortunately. Asus retains the locked bootloader key. We have a way to flash it (SBK I believe) but without the unlocked bootloader, we are not able to proceed further. This is unfortunate for both sides - customer and Manufacturer

Power button broken? Wont boot up, wake up or sleep properly.

I am sorry for the noob post, I think that this is my first post.
My Transformer prime has a serious issue. I bought it in March and everything was wonderful until suddenly one day it refused to start up completely
It would vibrate, show the splash screen and then "asus" and the litle waiting icon, then the screen would go black and it would start over and do that over and over and over.
I read about the pin hole reset and it didnt change anything no mater how long I held it. I held the power and volume buttons to get to the built in recovery and it would still only work for about 10s before turning it self off and starting over.
After about 3hrs of trying everything I could think of I found a work around:
It will only boot if I hold the power button down the entire time that it is booting.
However, the power button doesnt do anything anymore. If I hit it the tablet wont go to sleep, I cant shut down the tablet with the power button, and it wont wake up with the power button.
In addition, at random intervals, my tablet will interrupt me and ask me if I want to shut it down.
If it does shut down, the only way to get it to turn on again is to plug it in and then hold down the power button until it boots completly.
I am fully stock, I dont know if I am rooted or unlocked. (sorry, Im a noob)
Please help.
I have the keyboard dock which is the only way I am able to resume from and put to sleep.
This problem occured under .21. I have since updated to .28 and no change. Factory reset and full wipe, no change.

when you start up the tablet, does it say unlock on the screen anywhere? *i believe it does....) if it is, you cannot use the asus OTA updates or it will break your device
i think your best bet is to do a RMA...
