I don't think RAM will be a problem as Android frees RAM automatically when it needs it.
RAM is never a problem for me as I disabled lots of features and I get 900MB+ free RAM.
Well loads of apps work with just 1 gb of ram do 1.5 is plenty

hi..
recently i bought my first android phone , Xperia Neo ,..updated it to the lastest version of OS 2.3.4
today i've installed the game Blood and Glory , it works for 3-5 minutes then start to stop responding and then just exit the game ! ..
from the app setting i've noticed that the free amount of ram is around 80mb ! is that normal ? am just running skype , yahoo messenger ,, is it normal to have just a 80mb free of the total 512 with just skype and messenger working ?! is this the coz for the game to quit suddenly from the game ?!!
n.b. i'm very new for android
thanx in advance for any help..
Yes, it's normal to have around 80MB free.
I had a similar problem with heavier games like the one you mentioned. My solution was to remove all bloatware, processes and widgets that were occupying memory and CPU cycles in background. Right now I have only two widgets on my home screen (Widgetsoid and Analog clock) and around 150MB of RAM available when idle. Check running services to see which applications are taking up resources.
It might also be a good idea to clear all data and flash a ROM. I've noticed that a certain amount of (RAM and phone storage) memory tends to "vanish" when you update your phone...
thanx alot for the fast reply ,,
i'll try to close widgets and app to free the ram ..
as a new and unexperienced user of android i'm trying to stay away from flashing a ROM ..
thanx again..
I am using V6 Supercharger and now? i have got everytime 100-150 mb free =) with a lot of application on. And "No" we haven't got 512 mb ram we have got only 384 ram becouse 128 mb has got our GPU =)
Sorry for bad English

Before flashing my phone I also tried V6 Supercharger and it did increase free memory up to 150MB. But the games still kept crashing no matter what settings I used... :\

blood and glory is the first heavy game i've installed ,,
angry bird rio runs without any problem
having same problem with asphalt 6 adrenaline on my Neo V
True I have tried blood and glory on my neo just then and it played fine. I also have the asphalt 6 on here and no issues. So at least we know the games are compatible with our neo. And it should be for the neo v too. Okay after playing blood and glory for a pretty cool 20 minutes I too get the crash to the home screen as well. Hmm I have played other high quality games such as ashfault 6 and need for speed hot pursuit for hours with crashing though.
Am going to try blood and glory soon again with the stock firmware, rooted with inteks kernel and see what happens. will keep you posted about this game.

Have tried with stock firmware nothing else will close within 5 minutes tried with stock plus root and inteks kernel. Still closes. No other game will do the same.

Same issue - Blood and Glory crashes
Running Galaxy P1000 tab.
Downloaded and installed from market, then downloaded additional files and opened.
The game plays normally until the end of each battle, then freezes, device shakes, then after a few seconds triple shakes then exits application. notably all the post battle data seems to be saved so you can just reopen and continue the game.
Anyway, can something be done? contact game devs? what's the usual procedure?
Un supercharge, or edit again the supercharger, and the problem was gone!
I have the same problem with this game (and some other games).
I have Superchager V6 with his "recommended" memory settings. Some games always exit, some games not starting...
After unsupercharge, and ram settings (+ launcher) was bact to factory settings, problems gone....
Even i have the same problem. getting it recently though on ICS beta.
previously it was running ok on stock firmware gingerbread.
Has anyone got this to work on there Neo yet? or does it work on other devices properly?
I tried it on GB (with pwn kernel and nightelf kernel) and ICS(with night elf kernel), still experienceing the same problem. I belive we should try qvga version of blood and glory.
Hello everyone,
I've been reading the forum for a while and two weeks ago I decided to buy a galaxy s3 (the international version).
So far, I am more than satisfied with the phone but I experience the following issue:
First of all, even after restarting the phone, without opening any user apps, the ram usage is over 650mb out of the 830 available.
The problem is the following: Let's say that I open facebook and chrome. When changing between those 2 apps everything is ok.
Afterwards, I open instagram. When i want to turn from instagram to facebook/chrome, I have to wait at least 3 seconds looking at a white screen waiting for facebook to open. (Chrome even reloads the pervious page). It seems as if those apps were force closed and then restarted. (At that point, the ram usage reaches about 780mb).
In order to see what's going on, i opened two apps and looked at the task manager: Those apps were shown as "running". When opening a third app, one of the previous ones suddenly disappears from the task manager as if it has stopped running.
I'm running on android 4.1.1., stock rom without root and without any limit on background processes via developer options.
Is this normal? I mean... shouldn't s3 be able to flawlessly change between 3-4 apps without having to wait several seconds for the app to start (or re-start maybe) ?
Also, do you think that if i root my phone and flash a custom rom, will this problem be solved?
Thanks in advance
Hmm, the thing is how the Android is working, you can't have 'loaded'a lot of app, since there are simply not enough memory to keep these app in your memory phone. You can't do nothing about that expect:
Google: 'supercharge' and spent decent time understanding what is that.
Google: 'multiTasking mod v7' quick boost for your memory.
P.S update your system to 4.1.2 not sure if memory management will be better but this is must.
Try downloading 'omega kitchen' from the play store and grab from there 'mods'-'supercharge'

Remove all bloatware, 1gb ram is not enough to run everything on s3. I have to also freeze apps and unfreeze them before I need them. It's ridiculous really. Processes on s3 use 2 or 3 times more ram than nexus 7

Samsung made a big mistake giving the S3 1gb RAM.
Ignore everyone that says 'unused RAM is wasted RAM' while this is a totally valid statement, and in other Android devices very true, it's not the case for the S3. RAM on this phone is not managed well at all, if it gets below about 150mb the device gets slow and unusable.
Also multi tasking on the S3 is non existent, unless you modify ROM or framework, remove bloatware etc
I wod recommend a nice light ROM like Slim ROM or use JKay mod.
JKay mod has some awesome features to help lock apps in memory.

Thanks everyone for your quick and helpful replies.:good:
I rooted my phone with exynosabuse v1.4 and used gemini app manager to lock some bloatware apps.
Ram usage was minimized by at least 200mb and now i can keep 3-4 apps running so I can flawlessly multitask.
Although I've done some reading, I am not actually sure about two things:
1. I've read that when rooting the phone or flashing a ram, you activate a counter. Do you know if rooting with exynosabuse activates the counter?
2. The official 4.1.2 will be soon available in my country. I would like to know if i can update my phone via OTA or Kies now that it is rooted. And if i do so, do I lose my root?
Thanks
Exynos abuse won't increase the counter.
No you won't get OTA if you are rooted, once you install stock firmware root access will be lost.

I have very open apps and I dont know why like Maps x 2 and google services twice! and Facebbok used so much rqam like 60 mb
Got to your developer settings & set the background process limit to 2, the it should buy u some RAM
The reason behind this is that devs are still working on jb(these releases are UNOFFICIAL) and they present some problems like ram managment... Dont worry though they will fix it :good:
U can also use greenify for ram problems...
And lets not forget that u can quarantine apps so that they are just installed... They cannot be used while in quarantine, so they cannot run in background.
Finally, make sure to use custom roms which are debloated.
Hope that works
Is there any rom that improves multitasking significantly?
Thats the only problem i really have with the S3.
I tried CM once and it was almost the same. So no option.
thx
You could try using swap on your memory card. You would need to format and create a new swap partition on your memory card (never on internal memory!) and use a custom kernel that supports swap. Eg. Yank

You could try boeffla kernel which provides zram (fast in memory swap) this along with greenify will provide enough free ram to enable much better multitasking

Wrong forum, ok I´m sorry.
I finally gave this a try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1888081
with Boefla kernel. I didn´t want to mees up things to much, but it seems to do the trick for now.
Thanks, you can delete the thread if you want. I apologize
The multi tasking fix slowed down my device horribly.
Still looking for a romantic that does it.
thx

This issue has been discussed over and over again. I recently posted my opinion in an other thread. Anyways, i am pasting my response here, so that you can read what i have done with my phone to improve multitasking.
The truth is that although the stock touchwiz roms offer stuff like multi-window, they are really REALLY laggy in my opinion. I once decided to flash a cm10.1 (aosp) based rom. I haven't regretted since. I felt as if i had a completely new phone. I suggest you try such a rom. you wont regret it.
Also, there are some apps that allow you to freeze background processes. I use Rom Toolbox pro for example and i have frozen many background apps so I've reduced the amount of ram being used. Search on xda, there is a thread about which backgroung services are safe to be frozen.
Also, use greenify. Greenify stops apps from running in the background when you dont need them. Maps for example keep running in the background consuming 20mb for no reason. Greenify such apps so that they consume your ram only when you need them to do so.
Plus, change your LMK settings. The Low Memory Killer is an android service that kills apps when the amount of ram falls beneath a limit. Use an app such as Rom Toolbox to lower your limits so that apps don't get closed so often.
Finally, try zram with the appropriate settings. I use Googy-Max kernel which has bult-in zram support. I use 600mb of zram with 80% swappiness.
Having these things altered i can run at least 5 apps simultaneously without any problems. For example i run facebook and messenger along with whatsapp and skype. When i open the browser to search for something, none of the other apps gets closed.
Ofcourse if you try to run many apps, you may experience app-closing or lags. But remember, the key, is to close apps that you dont need.
Hi,
I have gs3, rooted, running on stock firmware 4.1.2.
the problem im facing is usually after a day of usage, the ram reaches 700mb. and even when I try to clear ram, it only closes 1 app and doesnt clear much of my ram.
I have done some research regarding this issue, and I know how linux handle ram differently than windows, but this high consumption of ram really is lagging down my phone. (harder to type, delay when flipping through home screen etc)
any solution for this? is there an app that really "clears" up ram?
thanks in advance.

Install Greenify from the Google Playstore and use it to hibernate the memory hogging apps. That will also help save your battery. Also, never close apps forcibly.
See multiple identical posts try and actually understand android and how it uses ram .
As said Greenify + Startup Manager +360 Mobile Safe + Update Firmware .
Lag is usually firmware have a look at Lag Fix also .

I know "unused RAM is wasted RAM" adage. it just Im hoping android left some for me for app Im using.
im still using stock firmware, would try to play around with custom firmware in near future.
thanks for the suggestions. will report back asap!
