Does it matter which to install and a difference?
- I see different roms based on CM recommending BaNkS and others signed.
- Same for AOKP based.
So why would one developer recommend BaNkS and another recommend signed even though both roms may be ports of either CM or AOKP?
Banks GAPPS packages seem to work better.
I don't know the details exactly, but I seem to recall that the Signed packages interfere with updating the apps that they include.
The main reason why I prefer BaNkS is because it is a lot smaller ("Base" is about 15 MB, and addons are available, such as Photo Sphere and Face Unlock). I think the official has a lot of extra apps that can just be downloaded from Google Play for free.

Yes it is because of copyright issues, Cyanogenmod had to stop including Google Apps by default because they are technically proprietary Google software that is not part of Android's open source code licence. For more information on this issue I would suggest looking at the Cyanogenmod Wikipedia article Licencing section. As far as including them in your ROM you can but it is a bit of a gray area, however most major ROM developers such as the Cyanogenmod Team, AOKP Team, etc. include them as separate download to avoid any potential controversy.
On any of my phones and tablets I use Play-Store and F-Droid regardless of original or custom build. While many custom builds include the Play-Store I haven't found any which also includes F-Droid. Why this? Don't others use F-Droid as often as I do? IMO F-Droid would be a perfect match to custom builds. How can developers be encurraged to include F-Droid into their builds?

This is what I believe it means, using CyanogenMod as an example (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CyanogenMod).
AFAIK the CyanogenMod team develop their custom rom for a generic platform. They then select a number of devices and customize the generic version so it can be applied and used on these selected devices.
An official CyanogenMod ROM is when the CyanogenMod team have selected the device and done the extra work for the custom ROM to work on that device themselves.
Unofficial means that the extra work to tailor the custom CyanogenMod ROM for the device is done by other developers, who use the generic base which CyanogenMod provide.
To my understanding its more like sub-beta, directed mainly for flash freaks (count me in).
Regarding stability some official ROMs are far from stable, while some unofficial are ages in front.

I would recommend CM12.1 as a daily driver. Is clean and fast. It works way better than stock Samsung ROMs and is very stable thanks to @JustArchi. It also drain less battery and has a good power save feature.

I have the latest version temasek's UNOFFICIAL CM12.1 v18.0 flashed + PA-GOOGLE APPS Plus GOOGLE STOCK PACKAGE
and I must say it really makes a great impression, everything seems stable so far.....
well the only thing that bothers me is the (ugly white background in Android Lollipop)but its just a matter of taste :silly:
Plus the newer builds of CM12.1 have OTA updater working.
How would you estimate the stability and performance of CM12.1 ROM's compared to official CM11 nightlies?
Flashed official CM11 once. Within 30 minutes of testing a had plenty of crashes and several Cannot connect to camera.
Lot of people here say that there is no need to move to Lolipop, because Kitkat is far more stable.. However I wouldn't agree.

You have instructions how to install the rom and what gapps to use in the first post on the rom thread. It's also pre rooted.

Heyyo, for the most stable Nougat ROM? I'd recommend OmniROM. It's not as bleeding edge in changes such as BlackX or Resurrection Remix but it is built for stability upon OmniROM and Darkobas kernel. Depending as well on the build of Resurrection Remix it could have battery drain issues as you'll see on and off in the thread.
OmniROM also has the advantage of signed builds by Google so they come with official SafetyNet Certification. No need of Magisk and Magisk module workarounds so things like fingerprint unlock with your banking app should work without issue unlike any other ROM I've tried with RBC app... That also means if the Le Max 2 had built in NFC that android pay would have worked without a hitch...
I believe the only other custom ROM with signed builds by Google for official SafetyNet Certification is Paranoid Android but sadly there isn't official builds for the Le Max 2 (yet). Maybe once GalacticSryder receives his Le Max 2 we will see that and built upon is custom kernel as well!
I tried porting it but I suck at it and failed haha oh well at least it turns out I'm good at vehicle repairs

Also, Resurrection Remix for Nougat has reached final versions so it won't be receiving updates. As far as I know for Nougat ROMs I think Slimroms and BlackX are the only ones receiving updates still as andr68rus and I believe the same with Shivatejapeddi have both changed focus to Oreo.

It's up to you which path you wish to go. As mentioned OmniROM is definitely the most stable ROM as it tends to not receive major changes as quickly as other ROMs.

Any ROM is super easy to root. Only requires flashing Magisk via TWRP. I'd easily recommend it over any other form of root since it's fully open source software (FOSS) and the modules capabilities is amazing with stuff like Universal SafetyNet fix or other mods like enabling 60fps recording on the Google Camera Mod. I also really enjoy the ART Optimization mod for a little extra performance.
Magisk is found here on XDA and I'd recommend v14.3 right now because v14.0 stable has actually given me more grief heh

Actually, my build are based on a mixture of Lineage + Slim
I want to install crdroid vanilla custom rom. I want to know whether microg is device specified like custom roms. I have a redmi note 10. Is there any specified micro g for redmi note 10 or can i install any mciro g. Also please suggest which is better from microg, nanodroid, nikgapps. I am also curious to know its pros and cons.
crdroid is unfortunately discontinued as vanilla build ( I still wonder why.. ) you better stick with other vanilla ROMs then.
however, getting Signature spoofing working on vanilla LineageOS is currently a mess and very tricky (as long as there is no official microG version), so many ways that worked before don't work anymore. nanodroid isn't working, the spoofing is not working. you have to manually extract framework files, deodex files, repack, upload again etc.. cumbersome.
if you have a vanilla ROM that supports signature spoofing out of the box, the best way seems to be having Magisk and installing the unofficial MinMicroG.zip with it. That was the only option that worked for me now on Android 11.
there is also no device specific MicroG version. To get a working MicroG installation it depends on 2 factors:
1. MicroG itself. the current version is kinda buggy on Android 11
2. the way it is installed and bound into the system (priv-app, userapp, as system installation or magisk module)
both need to work hand in hand, that means there are many combinations available that might work and might not work, and it's changing everyday (like, microg community updates fixes and adjusts the code, then google releases next update and nothing works anymore)
again: if your chosen ROM supports signature spoofing out of the box, installing microG is a piece of cake (if you know the right combinations that currently work, f.i. A11+magisk+minmicrog, or (currently not) nandroid, official microG apks only, etc.)
otherwise it's a lot more difficult, because there is currently nowhere a working one-click-solution to add signature spoofing.
(oh, and that's at least my experience so far, if anybody knows better, feel free correct me or add infos, I'm eager to hear)
