[Q] Need Stock Rom to Activate Phone - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

So I made a major noob mistake and should have known better being as I am not a noob. Before flashing a custom rom (first) I did not activate phone and (second) I did not make a backup. I know what everyone is saying "stupid stupid stupid".
My question is - Is there a stock rom for this device that I am able to flash with (s-on) so I can activate this phone?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I think any sense rom should give you the option to activate, like meanbean, viper, etc... All those mentioned have a kernel installer baked in for s-on, good luck!
PS. Make a backup of your current rom always!

lol I have made a backup of my current ROM. I am in the process of downloading SharkieROM which claims to be a "stock" rooted (slightly modded) ROM. I will try that first. But if it does not work then I will try meanbean or the like. Is not meanbean ICS? If so, will downgrading from JB to ICS cause any undesired affects?
Thank you for the quick response!

No meanbean is JB, it's on the android development thread, Mean Rom ICS was moved to the Original Android development thread because Mike introduced a bunch of kernel customizations, I thinks you can downgrade with no issues but somebody correct me if I'm wrong, I've never done it... Good Luck!

You can definitely activate from any of the Sense roms. I have done so myself.

I did get my device activated, finally. Sharkie ROM did the trick. Thank you all for your responses.

[Q] how to s-off hboot 1.30

With hboot 1.30, you can use revolutionary. That's definitely what you should do.

I think you can use the revolutionary way of root read about it
Thanks for the input. I successfully rooted with revolutionary, installed cwm recovery, made a backup, and then flashed the latest twrp recovery (I believe that's what everyone is recommending I use). I was hoping someone would be kind enough to post some rom and kernel recommendations. I am looking for something with sense that is stable, working 4g, and working 3d features (I also think I read in some roms that 3d things were broken). I am not new to flashing or rooting (the 3d is the 5th phone I've rooted) and so far things seem similar to my og evo. Any help is appreciated. Once again, thanks for the help and recommendations!

Glad to help. I've been using Viper Rom for the past week or two, and it's super stable, and gets great battery life. Many people also speak highly of clean rom, mean rom, eternity, etc. Basically, there are a lot of Sense based ROMS out there to choose from. Any rom with Sense 3.0 should have all the features (4G, 3D) working. Good luck.
My vote is for Warm 2.3 as a super stable and fully functional ROM.
Partitioning SDcard
Thanks for the tips on roms? Any kernel recommendations? I wanted to overclock the device but didn't want to lose any features. Also, if someone could point me in the direction as to partitioning the sdcard that would be great. Can it be done in recovery or should it be done on a pc? What type of filesystems are recommended and what should I set sizes at? Thanks in advance for everyone's help with this. I pretty much know some ways to do this, I just need to know what is recommended for the 3d.

[Q] What ROM...

This is a complete newb question, might get some slack for it but no sweat off my brow.
I downgraded my hboot from 1.5 to 1.4, which ROMs will I be able to use without effecting what my now rooted phone.
Thank you in advance!!
If you are cdma, I recommend the two in my signature. MeanROM is very stock with speed and fixes built in. ZR3DX is a rom with fixes but also has a lot of theming. So, stock choose MeanROM, if you like theming, choose ZR3DX.

First and foremost thank you so much for replying! :good:
That's the issue I'm not one who likes Stock ROMS so i didn't know if there was something that I needed to look at each ROM before trying to flash.

If you don't like stock, then you will love ZR3DX. It comes with some nice skins and is Sense based so everything works, but it definitely does not look stock. Also, the community there (Team 420) is very helpful. I recommend you start there.

Nothing, just make sure you get a cdma or gsm rom, depending on what you have.
@sitlet
Thank you for your response, I just was not sure if the new ICS ROM's would do anything to the downgrade rooting that I did.
I appreciate it!! :good:

I downgraded to root and use ICS with no ill effects (AFAIK). Just don't flash the VM firmware.

Im a Samsung user who is familiar with flashing ROM s and rooting.
My friend with an htc 3d EVO wants me to flash his phone.
Are any of the ICS ROMs 100% working and reliable?
I see that you have official CM7 support. Is that ROM 100% yet?

Tnx

1. Maybe, you can try, but if you start having any issues that would be the first thing to suspect.
2. Guessing you are GSM so I don't know for certain, but most 4.1 and 4.2 ROMs require the latest firmware but may require a lower hboot. S-Off is pretty much a prerequisite.
3. I do all the time and have no issues. Again though, if you start having issues I would suspect this first before the ROM.
ROM/Kernel Devs hate when you restore stuff and have issues then come to them to complain like it's the ROM problem. I rarely have issues with Titanium restoring, but I'd be careful with Nandroid restores.

Another question:
1. Can I use all GSM Jelly bean and ICS rom's if I have hboot 1.49.1107, s-off and radio 3.28.707.1?
2. Is there any major difference between 1.49.1107 and 1.49.0007?
3. What is currently best JB rom for gsm evo 3D?
Tnx

1 & 2. I dont know any major difference between the two but i personally have had no problems booting any jb or ics rom on 1.49.1107. I'd say stick to it unless you face problems
3. I'm sorry but these types of questions are frowned upon here because they may lead to arguments. people start disrespecting devs and its not fair to compare two roms. BUT we do have a specific thread where you can discuss roms and get opinions from others. Post in this thread and i'm sure you'll get a good recommendation for a rom.

I just created the guide you need today.
If you want 3D to work you are going to have to go with a "de-Sensed" ROM that emulates AOSP. There are AOSP based ROM's that have working 4G but no 3D camera.

So if i wanted just the current ics update, downloading the ruu from that website, running it an leaving it would be enough?

Yes. You wouldn't be rooted and would have the stock bootloader (hboot) and recovery, but if you want to run 100% stock that would be fine.
I suggest leaving it S-OFF though so if you change your mind it's easier to update those things.

ok, one last question, just so i am clear to myself. lol I downloaded : RUU_Shooter_ICS_35_S_Sprint_WWE_2.89.651.2_Radio_1.09.00.0706__NV_NV_SPCS_1.43_release_271101_signed from the site posted in your guide. by running that exe, I will be on the current sprint ics rom, radio, curren stockt hboot, current stock recovery, an S-off ? with the option of then afterwords installing custom hboot an recovery?

[Q] S-Off Clarification and ROM advice

Hi, I rooted last night.
I'm boot unlocked.
S-ON
TWRP 2.6.3 (updated by Goo Manager)
SU User 1.8.6
Unlock took me down to 4.1.1
I tried to flash the most recent CM ROM in Goo Manager after a dalvik cache wipe and got stuck on boot. Is this likely because I'm S-ON or because I didn't use the right type of wipe?
Also, I know the MikMik ROM was the gold standard for a clean, lean and stable ROM without many bells and whistles on OG EVO. What is the equivalent for LTE/jewel? And so I need S-OFF for it?
Thanks in advance!
You have to flash the kernel separately from the ROM when S-on. Having said that, you don't have to be S-off to flash a ROM, but, as easy as the process is, it's worth it to be S-off. Take a look at the top link in my sig for more info. As for ROM advice, just start flashing until you find what you like. If you ask ten different people what their favorite is, you'll likely get ten different answers

Something equivalent I'd say "MeanBean " read the OP for this rom
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk
Thank you!
Thank you. I was finally starting to understand that I would probably need to S-Off so I could flash the kernel for a ROM other than one that uses a stock kernel. I was just hoping to avoid it, because I usually know just enough to be dangerous to my electronic devices...
I'll be sure to check out Mean Bean.
Mean Bean actually has a kernel installer to make flashing while S-on easier. Just make sure you read the Mean Bean OP so you follow the correct steps to get it installed properly.
