Nandroid restore and JB roms question - HTC EVO 3D

Hy,
1. Can I restore data from nandroid backup of cool ics v14a to yoda ics v7.5/8.0? (Booth are sense 3.6, based on Android 4.0.3)
2. Do i need to change anything (update, flash firmware or bootloader etc?) for flashing and using JB roms (4.1.1 or 4.2.1)?
3. Can i restore data (apps and app data) via titanium backup from ics to JB?
Tnx

1. Maybe, you can try, but if you start having any issues that would be the first thing to suspect.
2. Guessing you are GSM so I don't know for certain, but most 4.1 and 4.2 ROMs require the latest firmware but may require a lower hboot. S-Off is pretty much a prerequisite.
3. I do all the time and have no issues. Again though, if you start having issues I would suspect this first before the ROM.
ROM/Kernel Devs hate when you restore stuff and have issues then come to them to complain like it's the ROM problem. I rarely have issues with Titanium restoring, but I'd be careful with Nandroid restores.

1. Ok, i will try
2. It's gsm version and I have s-off.. hboot is 1.49.0018.. is that ok?
3. Great..
I'll try restore from nandroid and see what happens.. thank you!

Another question:
1. Can I use all GSM Jelly bean and ICS rom's if I have hboot 1.49.1107, s-off and radio 3.28.707.1?
2. Is there any major difference between 1.49.1107 and 1.49.0007?
3. What is currently best JB rom for gsm evo 3D?
Tnx
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m

1 & 2. I dont know any major difference between the two but i personally have had no problems booting any jb or ics rom on 1.49.1107. I'd say stick to it unless you face problems
3. I'm sorry but these types of questions are frowned upon here because they may lead to arguments. people start disrespecting devs and its not fair to compare two roms. BUT we do have a specific thread where you can discuss roms and get opinions from others. Post in this thread and i'm sure you'll get a good recommendation for a rom.

kernels not installing can someone help me?

HI i'm kinda a noob on this stuff (but learning) ...anyways
I can't seem to be able to get ics on my evo 3d .. it's a sprint cdma version it's got s - off all I want is a kool rom/kernal with the following
i think the problem is that im using gsm roms/kernals (why can't developers put that in their descriptions)
I'm looking for the following features
(CDMA)
I.C.S.
3d camera
over-clocking
battery saver
full beats audio
and some kool eye candy
i tried many roms and kernels but nothing works.. either the phone freezes at the first htc screen .. or it goes to the first htc screen vibrates and then reboots in a loop (i found a few were gsm such as king cobra)
i tried the fastboot method .. clockwork mod...and 4ext.. nothing works ... am i loading the wrong kernal/roms... mabe someone can point me to what im looking for ?
can anyone help me ?
thank you so much

Yes, it would be better if you gave us more details. Such as, what ROM you are using.
ALso, can you create a step by step run down of your flashing process?
Maybe we can see what you did wrong.
The first post has enough information. Sprint is CDMA, King Cobra is GSM. You need a ROM from the CDMA development forum.

yea some were gsm i guess

Go to the EVO 3d cdma development. The gsm and cdma sub forums are split. I'd recommend using the kernel that comes with the Rom. And no, you can't use any kernel with any Rom.
Just find a Rom that you like and flash it. Don't worry about kernels as much.

If you really want to tweak your system and stuff, you can get the Anthrax kernels (search google). Though you have to sign up to their forum. Also, make sure you read which version the kernel is for. No every kernel cannot work for every version.
can i do this?

I wanted to put this on but if i have a delema .. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466362
ok its a sprint evo 3d flashed to boost
on that link it says -- 1.2.17.651.5 ROMs need the latest firmware. See freeza's all in one firmware update if you haven't done that already. If you unlocked via the HTC method, you know the drill: you'll have to take the OTA and then re-unlock.--
the thing is most of the features i want are handled by the kernel such as o.c / battery saver / beats / ect... thats the only reason i want to change my kernel
heres the question,,, being i originally did the htc unlockr which made it s-on then did the wire trick and made it s-off will i still need to unlock the phone then relock it ..see here is the problem we found that when we did the wire trick i had to reflash to boost it reset the sprint info (at least that what we think happend) ... and this is not an option right now (the guy that did it for me is at school)
is there a way i can install the freezas firmware..anthrax kernel(which it requires) and the mean rom with out having to reflash boost?
If you are already s-off, then no do not relock. I would really suggest you just start all over. Because if you keep on flashing you could mess it up.
Just take thr ruu for your phone version and start over. You may loose root. But i believe you will still be s-off.
Root again then install recovery, make backups, wipe everything in recovery, then install the rom.
By the way you will have to use joeykrim's flashimageGUI app to flash the kernel before the rom IF you are on1.5 hboot. If you are 1.4 hboot disregard.

thats the part i think if load the stock ruu it resets it back to sprint ...also i am on 1.5 but i thought that was the point of going s-off so i i dont have to use programs like flash image gui... (although i have tried it)
i a little confused

Like I said, I think ou should start over. Take the 2.17 ruu.exe. I also suggest you downgrade via the "bricking" method and then root using revolutionary.
If you don't want to do that then, root with htc method. And do not install the boost firmware! Install recovery, make backup, use flashimageGUI or 4ext. And install rom.
You have to do this on 1.5
If you downgraded to 1.4 then you can disregard flashimageGUI
I think your problem is that you flashed the boost firmware. You could have kept the original meanrom and nothing would have happened.
Just start over.

Gingerbread to ICS (CDMA)

Long story short… I have been very busy for the last 6 months and not been keeping up with all the changes for the CDMA EVO 3D. I am not really sure the best way to get from here to there. I am not a noob and don’t really need my hand held or a dummy’s guide (I have been messing with Android since the HTC Hero and rooted lots of phones and pads). There has been just to many new ways to root and leaked roms…etc. It would be nice to skip all the BS and get caught up with what most people are currently doing.
My current config…
H-Boot: 1.40 s-off via Revolutionary Method
Recovery: TWRP v2.1.1
Rom: ViperRom Redline v2.5 RC2
Would it be better to just RUU back to stock Gingerbread then upgrade to ICS and re-root or is better way to get to ICS with root???? I am not trying save anything on my phone. I am a big fan of wiping and super wiping multiple times before loading a new rom. Also is there any benefit to H-Boot 1.5 or higher?
If this has already be asked can you point me to the correct thread.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If I'm reading right, just search the development forums for an ics rom, flash it and you're good to go. NEVER TAKE OTA

Tl;dr.
Just kidding. I'm running the latest ics rooted Roms on hboot 1.4 revolutionary s-off. I ran freeza's firmware update without the new hboot. This lets me run everything except the new kernel (which most new Roms don't use). If you insist on the new kernel, you can upgrade the hboot too, but you lose the ability to flash aosp and GB Roms.
So, in short, you just need to pick a rooted ics Rom and go. I like zr3dx, Meanrom, homebrew, or common ground.
I also recommend you change to 4ext recovery. It's really nice.

Please Help - Rooted Evo 3D (2.3.3/ 1.13) ---> ICS?

What would be the best way to update both the software and to ICS? Through a rom or another form?
Find a rom in the development forum that you want, and flash it, simple as that. Most ICS roms work fine with older firmwares such as yours. If you want straight up stock, no tweaks or changes, check out virus's thread, he has stock roms with root access, if you want a different ICS rom, by all means go flash one. The worst that can happen is it doesnt boot/gives you bootloops, in which case you just flash a rom you know works, or run the ruu and start from square one again. No harm no foul

Thanks for the quick replies. I was only asking because I've had this evo rooted since day one using the Synergy ROM and Ziggy's OC kernel and I haven't had any problems, at all. Looked into some new roms over time that seemed to be "based" off of the the newer sprint shooter software, so I didn't know if I had to manually updated to that version first as I am still on 1.13 and not 2.08 etc. Finally, will this change my Hboot? (I'm on 1.4)
Also, do I need to revert kernels first? Since this one probably wont work with ICS

All it is, is just software, hboot and radios don't really have to do much with Sprint stuff. Most ics roms have intentionally been modified to work with older softwares

CM v10.1 "Wild for the Night" - HBOOT Issues

First and foremost, I sincerely apologize if there is some information out there that I have missed or failed to read. I am a noob to this forum as far as posting goes but I've been reading posts here for some time and thus far I have been unable to find a solution to my problem.
This is the third time that I'm flashing my EVO 3D, however it is the first time I've actually used S-OFF. This particular iteration of my phone was completely vanilla ICS on hboot 1.58. I followed the dummy-proof guide stickied to this forum all the way through getting S-OFF through the "wire trick" method. At this point I wound up with a "jbear" version of hboot 1.58. Sweet deal.
Problem is I decided I wanted to try CM v10.1 so I had to change hboot to something below 1.57... No biggie. Except for I messed with the thing for hours and had absolutely no luck getting it to boot. The only thing that worked was returning to the jbear 1.58 hboot and restoring an earlier backup from 4EXT with the stock ROM.
Long story short after multiple flashes, going from jbear 1.58 to jbear 1.50 and back several times I finally got the phone running on CM v10.1 "Wild for the Night" with hboot ENG 1.04.
So... my question is as follows. Have I hosed something up in my tinkering by going back and forth between hboots multiple times? I'm concerned that doing the v1.58 "wire trick" S-OFF and then jumping from one hboot to the other only to wind up with ENG 1.04 might cause issues in the future.
I apologize for any incoherence on the above. It is now 6am and I've been at this for hours...

no, switching your hboots won't cause any issues with your phone. I will tell you however, always make sure you're on a compatible hboot for any ROM you flash
You can change hboots 10 times a day until you change your phone, nothing will break because of that. The problem is that some hboots are incompatible with some roms and some android versions. For most Jelly Bean you need the x hboot, while for Ice Scream Sandwitch you need the y hboot. You get the point l. Nothing breaks as long as you properly change hboots and don't get errors in the process of doing so.
Relax and flash away whatever you want
When flashing a new HBOOT you need to boot into recovery and wipe your cache partition then reboot again to recovery using the reboot to recovery option within recovery. Then flash ROM and GAPPS. Also make sure to be using the VERY latest 4ext recovery. The test version

I saw these suggestions on your development thread and followed them. This is how I finally got it to work with the ENG 1.04 and so far the ROM is working great.
Not to take my own thread off topic but is there a list of supported kernels for this ROM? I'm interested in under clocking, etc. and not sure if that's possible on stock.

[Q] Need Stock Rom to Activate Phone

So I made a major noob mistake and should have known better being as I am not a noob. Before flashing a custom rom (first) I did not activate phone and (second) I did not make a backup. I know what everyone is saying "stupid stupid stupid".
My question is - Is there a stock rom for this device that I am able to flash with (s-on) so I can activate this phone?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I think any sense rom should give you the option to activate, like meanbean, viper, etc... All those mentioned have a kernel installer baked in for s-on, good luck!
PS. Make a backup of your current rom always!

lol I have made a backup of my current ROM. I am in the process of downloading SharkieROM which claims to be a "stock" rooted (slightly modded) ROM. I will try that first. But if it does not work then I will try meanbean or the like. Is not meanbean ICS? If so, will downgrading from JB to ICS cause any undesired affects?
Thank you for the quick response!

No meanbean is JB, it's on the android development thread, Mean Rom ICS was moved to the Original Android development thread because Mike introduced a bunch of kernel customizations, I thinks you can downgrade with no issues but somebody correct me if I'm wrong, I've never done it... Good Luck!
