What would YOU do? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I want to debloat and have ability to run custom ROMs. Im on stock unrooted ME7. I have offers to sell my S4 for almost $600 (then I'd buy dev edition) or I could straight up trade for a Note 2 or I could keep my S4 and wait to see if we can get root and/or bootloader unlock.

I wouldn't want anything Verizon. GSM is the way to go in our world. The HTC might sweeten the pot but not enough for me.
I would keep the Note.
As long as they're not stolen, take the trade then resell them and use the money towards a note 2 =)

Yes..I would never buy a non international compatible android phone again.
written in your mud with my stick.
the one X is a fine bit of hardware. Mind you it's far from my first choice, but like the other poster said, do the trade if they aren't stolen, sell one or both of them and buy yourself what you want, chances are you'll walk away with cash in your pocket and a newer phone. Though if he's offering 2 phones, both of which cost way more than the note's worth on the open market there's a VERY good chance that they're stolen. You know the saying, if it's too good to be true...

Question on Purchasing an S4

I was thinking of buying an S4 to replace my rezound. If I don't let the Verizon people touch it or turn it on, what are the chances that the phone will NOT have root breaking OTA?
Thanks

I used my two year upgrade at flywire. Com
Came with mdk
When I first got my phone at the store I told them not to open it and they didn't. I told them I was in a hurry and that I'll activate it later.

I bought my S4 from Best Buy last Saturday. They made me activate it and set it up, but it only began to download the update. When the update notification asked me to install the update, I said "wait 23 hours". When the 23 hours were over, I instructed it to wait 23 more hours. In that time, I was able to root my phone, install a custom recovery, freeze the update APK, install Darkside's ME7 rom, and sigh with relief. Also came from the Rezound. It was a good choice.

Just bought my S4 from best buy 2 days ago it came with the mdk firmware first thing I did was turn off mobile data to make sure the update could not download. Rooted unlocked and had CM 10.2 on my S4 within the first hour. Just make sure when you buy the phone you turn off WiFi and data that way the update can't download

Why wouldn't they? People buy the one. It's just an htc one with a note 3ish size screen and larger battery + sd card slot finally. I just want reliable and fast 4g again, something I can't have with my s4.
Edit: just read some reviews on the one max. Disappointing. Now I really don't know what I'm going to do for a phone. Maybe back to my rez.

Yeah I don't know that One design just doesn't scale well. I mean look at a One compared to a Moto X, it's a joke. They have the same screen size but the Moto X is almost the same size as an iPhone while the One is bigger than our phone. So the BoomSound speakers plus the 5.9" screen means it massive. It only has a Snapdragon 600 after all these devices are coming out with the 800. It loses OIS, which ruins the whole point of their "UltraPixels" with the larger light aperture, in favor of a fingerprint reader which so far hasn't been reviewed very well. Apple integrated the reader into the experience of the iPhone by putting it right on the home button, the One Max makes the same mistake as the Motorola Atrix. Furthermore, it doesn't even retain the best part of the One design, the unibody aluminum shell. It features a plastic ring around the phone like our S4 as well as an apparently spotty removable back that doesn't even feature a removable battery. Very disappointed in the One Max.

How exactly? A Note 3 sale is a sale, it's the same device. It costs them pennies practically in extra work. They don't care from that end. It's whatever their contract is with Verizon that matters.

That makes sense on a personal level, but realistically the number of people doing that is statistically insignificant. I have a hard time believing anyone's 'developer edition' device has sold much more than a rounding error.

Should I buy an S4?

Hey! Right now I have a Galaxy Note 2 and I was just curious if I should get an S4. I have a little over a year before I can upgrade again and I'm finding Galaxy S4s on Craigslist in my area around $250-$350, which isn't all that much more than a regular upgrade. I like the higher resolution display they have and the better camera, but I'm not sure if that would be the only thing I'd be getting out of it. Also, since there are developer edition S4s, I figured I could easily flash it to Kitkat, such as CM11, and expect no bugs or glitches. What's everyone's thought on going from a note 2 to an S4? Worth the money? Do you think it'd hold me off another year?

if you can't get a dev edition or a retail edition on mdk don't bother. on anything after mdk there is no custom recovery, only safestrap. and even on mdk there is no unlocked bootloader, just a loki exploit that allows us to flash twrp.
the phone is a great phone, but if you are looking to mod it, you have very few choices with the s4 unfortunately.
