Hey guys,
I recently noticed that the default network mode on the Google Edition 4.2 dump is set to 0, or "WCDMA Prefered". Thus not enabling LTE on our devices by default.
It can easily be changed by using *#*#INFO#*#* on dial pad.
Im wondering if anyone knows where the default network mode is set or how we can modify the default network mode.
Im assuming its somewhere in Phone.apk or Settings.apk or some bool god knows where, if anyone can shed some light would be appreciated.
didnt work for me is there a diff code to enable lte or have i got to reflash a diff rom
I always used *#2263# to modify network mode

You guys are off topic..
I would also like to know how to change preferred network mode on my GE rom. None of the suggestions above work for me. If I enter the code *#2263# it tries to start something, but then it FC.
*#*#4636#*#* set it in there.
Set your default network mode in your build.prop too.

What are you using to set in build.prop ? The CM10.1/2 methods of doing this does not work.

ro.telephony.default_network=(8 for me because I work with CDMA)
With that I also add a lot of prop lines for the Verizon network specifically. You'll have to add your own network's information
No matter what you set it at though, if you go into network settings it will auto-switch back to WCDMA. I haven't fixed the link and switching yet but I did change that menu link to automatically open up *#*#4636#*#* instead of the menu that switches it to WCDMA. Kind of a work around for the time being.

The point is to hard code whatever property that menu is changing right into the rom.

I agree, and I haven't been able to get it defaulted to my network by the any decompile/recompile system edits I've tried that i found through researching/reading. I'd welcome the direct answer as to where that specific bit of code lies but given this thread and the lack of answers I'm going to guess that help isn't coming.
I've been slowly working through each core app and framework editing everything relating to GSM, baseband, and radio. But I've not found or fixed that menu setting that defaults to wcdma. I've found the menu but nothing that would initiate it automatically changing to WCDMA without even clicking the dropdown menu.

Is there a way to create an APN that will force me to run on 2g only? I cant seem to find a toggle for 2g/3g. I downloaded an app by curvefish but it just takes me to the APN list when I click the widget, so that makes me wonder if I can create a 2g APN.
I am trying to convince my cousin to leave apple, but his one holdout is that he has to be able to toggle to 2g. I would like to see how my phone runs in 2g at work, since I work in a large steel building. I've tried *#*#4636#*#* but it just reverts. If an APN cant be set up for GSM I either need a step by step on how to get my APN to not be set to auto, or maybe a script or an apk. ANY info would be greatly appreciated.
38 views and no response, does anyone have any good info on a 2g toggle that works on an atrix?
do you mean 'edge'?

Yes, I mean 2g/edge.
I have been told that it is not possible on the atrix. Changes to data on this phone don't stick.
With 4636 code, if it revert, your rom has some prob. 4636 works properly with me.

Someone had success installing toggle 2g in gingerbread At&t rom?
I already tried, but didn't work.....
Dev of the software only guarantee on CM6 and CM7 but I dont want to install this rom, due to lack of resources (webtop, fingerprint, etc).......
Someone can help?

From what I understand based on the CM7 issue list, switching to 2g in the US is not working because of AT&T. You apparently have to call and enable it.
Here in Brazil it works...I can switch manually between GSM Only, Automatically or 3G Only.....but this app called Toggle 2G can do it automatically when we put in sleep mode....it's better because save much battery.....

have you called and enabled this on your phone, i am curious if you have it working and what you asked them to enable?
On my stock AT&T which I'm using here in Oz,
Settings->Wireless & Networks->Mobile networks->Select network was disabled and wouldn't let me change it.
Take a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14494826&postcount=24
Now all the toggle apps work.

I saw this thread before and even got the options ungreyed, yet selecting 2g changes nothing here in us
Well, I have not used that app, but *#*#4636#*#* then phone info, and then preferred network should work.
Is what I always do in areas with poor 3G coverage. I switch to GSM. And vice verse, in areas with good 3G coverage I set it to WCDMA only.
Sorry, I didn't realise OP had already unlocked the 'Select network' menu and it works.
I didn't find an app that would toggle 2g/3g automatically on a stock ROM. I just installed the 2G-3G OnOff widget that's a shortcut to the 'Select network menu, and I manually toggle it when in bad signal area.
I couldn't install it on my german Atrix with french stock rom. After installing the Toggle2G-Update.zip with CWM the app simply doesn't appear in the drawer.
Those of you who were successful, what did you do?
Thanks!
Hi
I just got Galaxy S2 att but I am in Europe, and since I don't use phone only for calls & sms I wonder if there is an option to permanently set phone to use GSM only?
I know the trick with ...4636... menu, where I can set to use gsm, but when I restart my phone it goes back to umts again.
Is there some hack to open that menu in "mobile networks" or should I use international rom?
I'd find what db it edits when you do that then make init.d script to make that edit every time you boot.

can you explain me how to do it?

The phone should technically revert to edge. You see the phone by default is set to 3g prefered meaning in these situations in which roaming in another country and the frequency bands do not match or cannot find 3g in the area that in which your phone uses "att". It would in this case revert to a lower spectrum until it finds one your phone uses. So in this case it should be automatically reverting to edge when you hopped off the plane, boat, canoe, whatever.

I have 3g signal but it's love, and i have seen posts that 3g uses more battery, so since i don't use data i want be able to force phone to use gsm only.
I have tried *#*#4636#*#* but it won't switch to gsm, stays at 3g.
I got the same problem, dude. Still find no way...Using UNNAMED 2.2.1...
You can check you wireless setting menu--> Mobile network to see if there is an option for you to choos Use 2G only.

unfortunately there is no option to choose 2g because that menu option is gray, i can't even open it.
i am also using unnamed 2.2.1
Try *#2263# and in menu choose gsm only, then it will use only gsm network. Bu again, when you restart the phone it goes back to umts

Hi, I am currently using the VZW Google Edition ROM 5.9 and have service and WiFi. My problem is it only connects to 3G, and not 4G. As advised, I have not gone into network settings, but I did open Phone Info and see that it is set to LTE/CDMA auto. Any reason I am not getting LTE?
Just a thought, but maybe you could check the APN settings and see if they are different than what you should have.

Thanks for the response. I am kind of new to this, where do I check the APN settings and how do I know what I should have? Thank you.
Do you have LTE coverage in your area? If so, can you use another phone/friend to double check if LTE is working? I only ask because we had LTE go out where we live.
Gir brings up a good point, I don't have 4G where I am (and probably won't for years!), but that may be simplest as long as they use the same network (although many carriers piggyback off the same network).
The APN settings should be under "Settings > More networks > Mobile networks > Access Point Names". On a stock ROM you have to get to the actual file through ADB, you should be able to see it if you have an aftermarket ROM. The settings for the APN will depend upon Verizon. Here is a good post with APN settings for Verizon, the first part is for Android.
Coverage could always be the issue as that has plagued me more times than not.
From the ROM thread:
Go into mobile network settings.
Verify that your CDMA subscription is set to RUIM and not NV.
For good measure go into the rest of the options and set it to CDMA/LTE, automatic, and allow data roaming.
Back out to your home screen.
Then go into Phone Info app.
Scroll to bottom and tap radio off.
Open the drop down list and select CDMA/LTE auto (PRL).
Turn the radio back on.
Reboot.
Upon reboot open Phone Info again.
Verify it is set to CDMA/LTE auto (PRL)
** you should have full service now * *
** if not * *
In Phone_Info(*#*#4636#*#*):
Try CDMA auto (PRL)
Then try CDMA/GSM/LTE
If those still don't work then your nv_data needs reset. The only way to do that is in the hidden menu dialer codes in a touchwiz-stocktype rom
If you destroy your nv_data and cannot get data back via the above you need to (stop screwing with your network settings)flash back to a TW ROM, enable hidden menu, and do a NV data reset via dialer code. After doing that make sure your phone is not in modem mode under diag dialer code. Until I update this section Google is your friend. And it is available information, verified. Your lack of searching skills doesn't mean pester my inbox...
I do have LTE in my area, as I had 4G before I loaded the rom. I do not have an APN menu under mobile networks. Do you think it could help to dial *228 option 2 to update roaming? Or possibly a new 4G sim card?
Anything about updating I would research first and be wary of... A new SIM card could help, but I'm assuming it is not the problem. Did you make a NANDROID before you changed ROMs? You could then go back and see it you still got 4G to make it evident if your SIM card is the problem.
FIXED
Just needed a new sim card. Thanks guys. I appear to be receiving signal bars with my LTE on the GPE rom as well.
have 2 problems with my LG G3 mobile network settings:
- whenever i install a ROM it automatically sets a mobile network APN with some preconfigured settings which im guessing it gets from my provider. i can set and create new APN but i wanna know how to delete the default one? there is no option to modify or delete the default one.
-if the location im in has 4G then when i set my Network Mode to GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto then all works ok but as soon as 4G signal changes to 3G or less the settings automatically reverts to GSM/WCDMA auto. how can i prevent the seetings to change automatically?
thanks in advance for any help.

The settings are gotten from a file in the roms. The rom doesnt download them from your carrier. The ability to delete them is also set up when the rom is made. So talk to the rom dev.
