[Q] ViewPager-related help needed - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After I've watched a few tutorials about how using the viewpager, I've got really confused. Every of them seem to be different in some way. After numerous tries I always end repeating the dummyfragment in 3 different tabs while testing the application and not aother fragments that I have created. This is my source code. What I have done wrong? I only want there to be 2 tabs, the dummy one and the Fragment2.xml one. I'll remain sincerely thankful for everyone that can help me in this matter. I've been trying to find how to make this work for over a week.

[Q] Request for tutorial on editing and compiling 9 patch images

All,
I am looking for a decent tutorial on how to use the draw9 patch program and then how to compile the image files with eclipse when I am done editing them. I have been looking all day and have found some information on the draw9 patch one pixel frame. I kind of understand it, but none of them really tell you where to place the pixels to set up the areas for stretching. The left and top are for setting up the areas that can/can't be stretched, but nothing explains how the pixels make that happen.
I have installed eclipse and the sdk, but once I get the images figured out, I have to compile them before they can be used. I need a good tutorial on how to set them up in eclipse, what steps I need to go through, so I can compile them.
I'm really trying to delve in an be part of the theming community, but I need some help here getting started.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks,
Doug
What a coincidence. I've spent most of today learning and attempting the same thing, and ran across this thread while searching and it finally clicked. Hope it helps to understand.

good place to learn code

Hello this is my first post and hi everyone.
I hope my post fits in here and appropriate.
I am starting to learn android development. Where is a good place to start learning the code itself? I am not talking about installing eclipse, the concepts etc etc.. i passed those... i need a place to look at which explains me line by line, in detail about the code itself. i am a beginner to writing java too. I just know some php as far as programing thats all.
You could try here: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/android/AndroidGuide.aspx and browse around here: http://developer.android.com/guide/index.html .
thanks for reply, i looked at google already. and the code project i saw that one too. but when i tried even the hello world tutorial at google android site yesterday, there was many things i did not know in that code. even in the tutorial it doesnt explain what is what for everything. as i am a beginner i want to learn the details of code.
You could try here: http://www.codinggreenrobots.com/episodes/ .
http://commonsware.com/Android/ is the book i see lots reccomend on IRC for android.
thanks the tutorials are great (they really need to improve video quality though)
You can also try this http://developer.android.com/resources/index.html It has a lot of codes, tutorials, etc that will make you pro within few days of hard work ...
yes i know that one in google android site i already mentioned in my question. but there it doesnt explain to me line by line the code. thats my problem. it assumes I know some coding. well i know close to nothing.

[Q] android kitchen

hello guys just set up dxsidia android kitchen not sure if anyone uses this but i have a few questions and since dxsidia does not support this anymore was hoping someone could answer them for me...
1. is the major obvious one does it work on the photon in the thread it does say unconfirmed for atrix but nothing on photon?
2.after creating the work folder i go into advanced options and start editing? i realize since there is nothing on the photon most of my answers are probably going to be try and see but no harm in asking right...
3.it has a set of pluign scripts labeled sgs2/ sgs these are for samsung galaxy s right so i dont want to use any of them?
4. there is a task killer tweak you can add from it what exactly is this?
5. add data/app functionality??? lets you add or remove apps??? not sure is why im asking
there are more q's but i figured if i can get these answered im doing good
ive read the thread for a few days now and seems simple but confusing at same time seems like its a one click type thing but if you dont know for sure what you are clicking can really screw up and have to start from scratch... anywho trying to do more around here and would appreciate any help anyone has thanks a ton
1) Yes in terms of an apk is an apk. No in terms of the updater script (IIRC)
2) Yes, assuming theres options in the advanced menu you'd like to impliment
3) You don't need the Samsung plugins.
4) Changes minfree settings in the boot image. Be aware the ICS impliments memory handling differently than previous versions.
5) Adds a script and folder for data/app partition so you can include optional apps. Optional apks (things like nascar for example) could be placed in here and would be installed on flash. But because they are in /data, the user has the option to uninstall through manage apps.
Personal Opinion: While the kitchen may be a convienient way to do things, it leaves little (Read: No) room for learning. Assuming you'd like to create a body of work to be publically distributed and not just for personal use, it might be worth the upfront investment in figuring out how to do/script this stuff yourself. That's not me trying to be an elite a-hole, that's me giving solid advice.
Cheers!
Yeah im a trying to learn as much as i can ive been reading and reading and reading have always known about the kitchen just never tried it thanks for the response you didnt come off as elitest is all good i find its easier for me to learn by trying things while reading about it granted i do research in great lengths not just in xda but other forums, blogs, links so on and so on before even downloading these tools but as i said it seems to sink in better when i can go ok i use this option this what it means thats what it did this what its supposed to do/look like

So ive been trying all day to spit out a rom with the kitchen and no matter what i do it doesnt install either get status 7 or 0 says was looking for 4agrs but only found 3 and sometimes says 3args but only found 2 ive tried using a rom i know flashes and just running it through the kitchen and flashing the output... idk what im doing wrong but starting to think it is not photon compatible any insider tips? i know i already asked this but not quite ready to surrender to defeat on this yet and i REALLY dont want to install linux or ubuntu on my computer would have to partition it and just not to keen on doing that to the family computer my kids and wife play on it almost more than i do

[Q]Can someone help me get set up for theming

Hello. I recently got into making themes a little bit, and wanted to begin making them myself, I was wondering if someone could point me to a guide or shoot me some advice about a few things: first, obviously, the programs I would need and how to set them up. A good place to learn about theming sold, and how to sign them if need be. Also if anyone out there has any information on boot animations, specifically regarding limitations (ie length, fps, amount of jpg files). I'm looking for information on modifying status bar icons and notification icons. I have found that the programs/files I use now are very disorganized and sometimes hard to find. I was hoping another themer out there could help me organize, maybe send screens of how your files are setup. If it matters I was hoping to start device specific (HTC ReZound) for now and once I got the hang of things move in up. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated, Ive gotten my feet wet but I'm still a noob. Thanks in advance

[Q] Making text digital in app

Hello,
I am new in this fora so I hope that this post is placed in the correct discussion.
These last couple of days my mind began wondering around a certain idea for a app, but one of the main things I need in order to ever could think is possible, would be a way to digitize text from a image or scanned document for example, but to this even exist?
This is a new playing field for me, but something I wanna do, so hope that you can give me some input or point me in the right directions.
Cheers
KAaskilde
