Notification bar - Samsung Galaxy Mega

Hello everyone..
I just bought the Mega 6.3 .. and am very happy with it and its running very well and smooth . but just one problem with the notification bar when i pull it down its slow and lagging , not smooth at all. and sometime take long time to drop down.. anyone can help me with this problem if there is a fix for it please reply me... and also sometimes when i press the home bottom to go the home screen , the widgets and the icons on the home screen loading very slow and appear slowly //

Turn animations to .5x instead of x1, or even off completely.

I'm having the same issue. My phone is fast everywhere except when I swipe down the notification bar. It's slow as molasses. It doesn't make any sense because the device is fast everywhere else.
Update: after turning animations off the notification bar is now fast again. I had to reboot for the animation changes to take effect.

Thank you so much for a quick reply, but one more thing i found 3 animation (Window animation scale, transition animation scale, animation duration scale), which one i should turn it off? Or all of them i off it..
Thanks a lot in advance

I turned all 3 to off. I didn't bother testing by first going down to .5x and seeing the results. I just turned the animations off as I don't really care.

I turned off all the animation and the notification became smooth and fast but after 2 days it got slow and lagging again, I don't know why, i kept the animation off all of them, please guys i need help with this problem, i really like this phone and this is the only problem i have it.....

Do you have all the features enabled like smart stay, multiwindow, etc? Check the running apps to see if you have lots of apps running in the background. You can use an app called Greenify to stop apps running in the background and slowing your phone.

I turned off and smart stay and also the multiwindow since the first day i bought the phone ,but i only turn on the air view, and i checked my background apps that running are not that much, btw my phone is NOT rooted, and it's ridiculous from Samsung that i can't use all the features of the phone that they advertised for such model and i even not root my phone or change anything, ..

Since the days of wm5 phones have been a compromise, large screen high power phones have awful battery life, we have got a good mix, large screen with reasonable performance and great battery life. I am very happy with the balance. If you want to run all the functions you are going to need the note 3. All IMHO of course

I don't have problems with the battery life , and i don't
care about the features i only use the air viewy, but i only have one problem with the notification lagging and slow when dropping it down, .. Even after turning off the animation scale..
I just wondering Samsung after making a phone with all these features they testing it and how come they didn't notice the lagging or maybe they did notice and they said it's okay people will buy it anyway and they will give us their money..
I like Samsung cuz i know they are the best in my opinion but sometimes for a small easy things they make me hate them...

I never had problems with the notification lagging or being slow when dropping it down.
I don't think it's a common problem so it might just be your phone's set-up.

Go to Settings > More > Developer options > Scroll down to find: Window animation scale, Transition animation scale, Animator duration scale
Tap each of these to show the options. I suggest choosing 0.5x or turning them off.

Check this out. There is no Developer options in the "More" tab??
What gives.. XXUAMEA.

Very nice! ... Thanks. I never did have a problem with notification lag, but did turn off the animations.
We'll see if I notice any differences. Thanks again

Guys i did wipe cash from original recovery (my phone not rooted) then i got error written in the middle of the screen and then the phone restart and then the notification became smooth and normal, but now am wondering why it showed error even when i wipe data..

I just returned my mega as I couldn't deal with the slow notification bar. I loved the device but having the notification bar lag so bad was the deal breaker.

Some weird lag in my galaxy s3 !

Some times my galaxy s3 gets laggy ( i mean laggy in scrolling in menu , scrolling thru home screens) , everything. The animations wont stay smooth for a short time.
Im not interested in flashing any custom rom and i think the s3 is pretty fast and smooth with the stock rom , and i even want to keep the features.
Any idea what is causing this ?
Thanks.
Settings - advance settings, change both window and transition to 0.5x
S- voice - settings - uncheck the launch s- voice with double tap of home button.
There is a lag on home button because the phone is waiting to see if you press it a second time to activate s-voice, the above 2 really do help.

If you are using any widgets that have information that automatically updates, remove them and reboot. Reapply them 1 by 1 leaving a while between each. Before adding the next one, check for lags. When you find lag, it's likely the last one you applied is the culprit.

i also have some problem on my s3. i seems to be lagging (from lock screen to home screen), not as smooth (in temrs of animation, etc) as before. i dont know the cause, i always clear the memory. and the averge % of the 50-60%. the first time it happened, i restore the factory settings, and it become smooth again. but now, it's lagging again. what could have been the cause of it? and how could i fixed this without restoring factory settings again, i dont want to lose my files again. please help. thanks!!!
other info: i only have 3 homescreens, i only use the default widgets except for, 2 apw widgets. my lockscreen app is widgetlocker. ram is 398/780mb

Power saving only causes issues but does not really prolong the battery life (according to my own and other people's tests)
Just keep it off and enjoy the phone.

Since a lot of contact syncs generally lengthen the contact list. If u r logged in to too many social networking sites or other apps like chaton and accounts like samsung account, it generally slows down the phone. Since initially the mobile didnt hv lots of contacts and sync accouts , it was running smooth.
I applied this on my S3 as it was showing the same problem and i dont see any lag now.

no it makes just the animations run with 60 frames per second, but it doesn't disable lags. on android you will have always lags, because the UI rendering has a low priority.
take it easy guys it's just a phone, even a desktop lags what more for a phone..
let's wait for more years, hopefully people can then throw the work "LAG" to oblivion

I dont think android will ever been mostly lag free. even a 200€ windows phone runs more smooth then a 500€ samsung galaxy s3, its a "problem" of android. but for that con, it has good multitasking.
I'm experiencing pretty slow and laggy multi tasking and laggy YouTube. The multitasking was a lot smoother on my gnex. Is this normal or should I go exchange my s3 for a new one.

Does this happen to anyone else?

I've noticed that sometime if I'm I'm an app and I push the home button it almost instantly brings me back to my home screen and other times it has a slight half second delay. For example it will be super fast maybe 10x in a row, then it will have a slight delay but eventually gets quick again.

I experience this every now and then, usually with resource-hungry apps. Not to pretend like I know what I'm talking about (because I don't), but it might also have something to do with redraws on the launcher.

If you have S-Voice activated on your phone the S4 will wait about a half a second after you press the home button to see whether or not you press it again to activate S-Voice. If you disable this, it will immediately go to the home screen after pressing the home button. It is not lag, but rather a built in timer.

I turned my kernel to stock settings (I was overclocked) to try to replicate your problem and I guess now that I am consciously thinking about it I have it too, I don't think its a huge deal though. A quarter of a second isn't that bad to me so I don't really care. If I'm overclocked it the animation is instant. It could be the ap switcher animation that lags under high resources. Try disabling that? or OC your phone.

Oh I see. I have them all off now. I uninsulated this app called system monitor lite and it seems like it always runs in the background bcuz how else would it be able to monitor my battery temp etc all day? It might be placebo but ever since I uninstalled it everything seems to be running really good.
Sent from my Verizon Galaxy S4
Well I've spent hours trying to figure this out. When I have 0 apps running, and for example I open up the phone app or contacts app, then hit the home button, it responds instantly. However, sometimes once I get a bunch of apps running in the background the home button response can slow to like half a second, almost as if that s voice home button feature was enabled. Do you think the problem here could be that a bunch of apps aren't yet optimized for the s4 so when they are running in the background they are causing some home button lag?

Go into your connection settings. Turn on your wifi, right after you switch it on, pull down your notifications bar and keep going up and down with it while the wifi turns on. Does your notification bar get all laggy and stuttery while the wifi turns on?

Mine gets got too but the hottest I've seen it was 41c battery and i was on it and charging it at the same time. Thats really the only time it gets close to 40, is when I'm charging it and using it. No, this doesn't lag my S4 at all. However, I set "Disable hardware overlays" to always use GPU for screen composing (in developer options). With this option set I haven't noticed a single stutter.
Before this workaround, I used to notice microstutters here and there (it would stutter doing window animation opening up facebook notifications for example).
Word of caution: supposedly this can cause problems for some apps. The only app that has problems is quadrant
I tried that setting but it didn't seem to change anything. All I want to change about the phone is the occasional home button lag I'm experiencing. Sometimes when I hit the home button it takes half a second to respond but when I clear all my recent apps the home button response is instant. Any ideas?

G2 Bugs/Problems/Issues Thread *VIDEOS INSIDE*

so i figured starting a general thread for bugs and issues would be a better idea to consolidate everything into one thread!
I've got the Verizon G2, so it would be interesting to see if other carriers have the same issue. These are all, for the most part, software issues.
for me, its:
1.) Launcher Redraw.
video example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gpn-hZnEPqg (ending shows homescreen launcher lag too)
I've posted a video yesterday, and will be posting another today showing how after almost every app, the launcher is redrawing, and therefore causes lag if you goto switch screens after hitting home. doesn't always do it, but does for the majority of the time. it does it enough that it warranted me rooting the phone to try to fix it, so I'm going to give v6 supercharger a go soon and do the bulletproof launcher. I'm apprehensive though because we don't have recovery to make a nandroid...
2.) *solved*Lag on notification drop down on lock screen
video example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLWUXOu68d8
did you set your wallpaper to non scrolling? if you didn't know you can do this, you can. if you goto gallery and select a custom wallpaper, at the top it gives the option of non scroll or scroll, which is awesome. however, beware.. when you do non scroll, for some weird reason your notification drop down will lag in the home screen. setting it back to scrolling wallpaper alleviates this. very weird
3.) Audio during video recording.
video example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oU6Sp5V5Hv0 (also shown is the "breathing" auto focus we all experience.)
The audio during video recording uses noise cancelling mics, which can be good as we've seen in other flagship phones. however, on the g2, they sound identical to the htc rezound from 2011. that phone had really bad wishy washy underwater sounding audio when the source was remotely loud. the g2 does the same thing sadly. other phones, such as the htc dna (shows that htc learned their lesson..) and the gs3/gs4 do not have this issue.. hell, even the galaxy nexus didn't.
I'm hoping that once we get developers on it, they'll make a modified camera that can allow for either the reduction in gain from the microphones, or to be able to cancel the noise cancellation to stop the underwater sound. on the rezound, htc somewhat fixed it with the ics update. here's hoping LG will do the same.
4.) Speaker has built in limiter/compression.
this is most annoying because i like listening to music on the speaker. sounds good but the thing is its being compressed and limited at a certain level, so you don't actually hear the best quality of the song. for example if the drums get really loud, it compresses and limits them down to your volume level, which takes away intensity of the song and just doesn't make it sound even. hoping to find a setting to turn this off...
5.) screen brightness changes with Auto brightness off depending on what's on the screen.
video example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slwkFhpiYbs&feature=youtu.be
this is that content adaptive brightness crap that they forced on the phone. it changes based on more whites or more blacks on the screen, then dims and brightens accordingly. it's incredibly annoying and there's currently no way to turn it off. in titanium i found an app called content adaptive back light and then i removed it.. it still does it.
what issues are you having with it?
Sent from my LG G2 using Tapatalk 4
my wallpaper doesn't scroll and when I pull the notification bar down I don't have any lag.
I'm gonna post the video when i get home from work. it does it every single time I have non scrolling on the stock launcher, and once I switch to scrolling, it's smooth again. remember, this is on the lockscreen.

Yes this is unfortunate and unreliable. I wonder if an update can fix this. They may worried about it being too sensitve.
On another matter, my Verizon version is prone to turning on the camera or note pad when in my pocket via the rear buttons. Even prone to turning on the phone when sitting on a table off because of the sensitivity of the rear buttons. Not sure if it is just the verizon model or both.

Your pic shows status bar shaded darker. I see truly transparent on stock wallpaper. There is a slight shading on bottom soft keys, but otherwise transparent.
Another thing I see -- transparent forces soft keys to be white regardless of what you select.
I got intermittent distortion with my Icon HD bluetooth headset during calls. Doesnt matter if the phone is in my pocket or just sitting on a desk next to me. This didnt happen with any of my previous phones (S4, One, Nexus)
Lock Screen Camera App Image?
Is this supposed to happen? If I start a swipe to unlock, the camera app image goes away, but then comes back...
Is this a shortcut to the camera? Usually if I swipe from an app on the bottom that is my shortcut.
yeah man swipe to the left to bring up camera like on stock android.

nope. doesn't work. I turned it off, it still did it.. and then i deleted that exact app you're in, and it still does it.
I have a feeling it's a kernel issue.

Where is that located?!?!?!?!? I keep seeing the an icon on the task bar that is a box with an eye in the corner and generally the brightness changes when it comes on, but I can't find any info on the icon. I think it might be that, not sure.
The issue I notice is when I get a text and click on it to go to the convo about 25% of the time it goes to the top of the thread and not the bottom where the most recent text is.....

I appreciate the reply but please check out a quick video I made. It seems like the camera is getting "trapped" on the screen after loading it, then the normal shortcut way doesn't work.

Agree with this. Knock off works 100% of the time for me. Knock on not so much.

get quick shortcut maker and type in content adaptive.. and it'll come up. make a shortcut open the app, and turn it off.. tell me if you notice. because I turned it off, and it STILL did the annoying brightness change. then I deleted the app in titanium and it still does it anyway.

[Q] Is the Z2 just REALLY slow to respond?

I've had my Z2 for a day, and before I bought it I read a review that measured phone reaction time between when the screen was clicked and when the phone started to react and it was DOG SLOW. Now I'm definitely experiencing the same. I mean there is noticeable lag when clicking something (like the Home button for example) and when the phone actually starts to take action. Is this normal? Is this just due to Sony's Android Customization?
Really?!! My experience is exactly opposite. I think the phone's touchscreen is too sensitive.
So I usually type wrong... ( Maybe it's my personal problem)

Yeah the problem isn't sensitivity, it's responsiveness. The screen sensitivity is fine, it's just that the time it take between when I click the Home button and the point at which the Z2 actually STARTS to close my current app and bring me to the home screen seems WAY too long to me. Not sure if the review I read and my experience is normal or is the reviewer and I both have phones with issues.
I see... I misunderstood your words~~
Did u upgrade the firmware ? OR the problem had existed from the beginning?
Coz it's seldom that a new phone has such...lag
My phone did update when I started it for the first time, but I don't know how it was before the update since it was brand new.

For myself, I usually do a factory reset after a OS version update~ otherwise waiting for the next update released by official .
I always do a factory reset on system updates. Prevents a lot of weird things...

Maybe its the default animation of the default launcher. Personally I don't seem to have this problem, when I press the home button it goes straight to the homescreen, there is no delay but I don't use the default launcher.
Go into developer options and turn animations off, maybe this might help you
Settings>About phone>Build number, keep clicking it until you unlock developer mode

Nope. My Z2 responds very quickly. It may be a problem with your device.
Same goes, although i curently have a very defective unit, everything is very rapid
I agree with @nreuge this could be a fault with your device

My z2 sometimes lags too, not much, but I can feel it,
How about a backup and a hard reset then? It helps to that most at-times.
Definitely more sluggish than the HTC One M8 and iPhone 5s. It isn't as bad as the Galaxy S5 though.

Its far from sluggish, and the speed at which home button reacts to your press isnt really a deciding factor in phones performance..
Thanks for the responses everyone. I did a factory reset and it did help a bit. I guess the phone just isn't as fast and responsive as others on the market. It's a far cry from the Nexus 5 and the HTC M8, but I'm sure that over time I'll either get used to it or flash a custom rom on it.
The Z2 isnt as slugish as people have mentioned
I can play almost all games around -40-60fps
If you cant acheieve this and have no lag at all lag through home or navigating apps, your unit is probably defective

You're right it's not, but a Snapdragon 801 shouldn't hesitate to go to the home screen when you press home.

This has nothing to do with gaming performance. I can play all games without any stutter, but as soon as the home button is hit or the recent apps button is hit, it will hesitate before opening or going to the homescreen. It's not "defective", something is just making the phone sluggish.
OP, I removed the small apps launcher from the recent apps panel and it seems to be a bit faster, though still not instant.
Ya, it is not about playing games, it is these little things, like home key, camera app, setting manual, recent app key.....
the z2 is a bit slow and lags compares to other flagships. It is not too bad, but the lags are there. It doesn't happen all the time.
If you are coming from dual core phones you will not notice it, however if you are coming from M8 or S5, you will notice it.
Hopefully the next update will fix this.
No phone is perfect, overall I am very happy with the z2, except the audio......:crying: I will get used to it.
If you need to speed up the phones response try altering the 'Drawing modes' for Window animation, transition animation and animator duration scales.
To do this you first need to activate Developer mode.
Go to Settings/About phone and at the very bottom of the list tap on Build number eight times.
This will bring up a small warning informing you Developer mode is now active.
Next, go back to Settings and you will notice in between Printing and About phone you now have 'Developer options' available.
Tap on Developer options and scroll down to the 'Drawing' section.
Where it says:-
Window animation scale
Transition animation scale
Animator duration scale
Change these three settings from 1x to .5x
You should now notice your phone is much snappier and responsive.
