are you charging the tab on the dock at night, or separately? does it help/hurt it to charge on the dock every night? Thanks
Doesn't the dock expands on to the tablet's battery since it has it's own. I would think when combined you should be able to charge it all at once.
Same as the original transformer. Keep it docked, and plug the keyboard into the charger...it charges both.
I've just been putting my tablet on the dock at night, and then charging them both through the dock. Both are fully charged and ready to go in the morning. I switch a lot between docked and un-docked mode, but even with heavy use during the day, I don't need to re-charge till evening.
when does the dock begin charging the tablet? right now I am on battery battery power, my dock is at 99% but the tablet is at 79, does not appear to be charging.

From the FAQ
Why isn’t my Eee Pad fully charged by the mobile docking?
When your Eee Pad is docked and disconnected to a power adapter, the mobile docking only charges your Eee Pad battery up to 90% maximum to protect your battery and prolong its life. The mobile docking recharges once your Eee Pad battery power goes below 70%. The power adapter fully charges your Eee Pad battery to 100% and recharges when below 95%.
then charging it on the dock at night will never get it to 100? where did you find that FAQ?

that is only when it's not connected to a power source. when plugged in, both devices will charge to 100%.

it used to be available from ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/EeePAD/TF201/ but that isn't working today ...
I don't know everything about the battery in the tablet, but I know a bit about batteries in general. When it is plugged in, there will be an almost constant charge on the batteries, meaning heat and stress. That is not good for batteries in general and will decrease the lifespan. Now you could very well be done with the tablet soon before the battery gives out, but why take that risk.
As someone who's worked with batteries, albeit, larger that the ones in question, it is a general rule of thumb to keep the batteries between 80% and 20%. That should be good enough for home. If your travelling, yea a full charge is great and won't hurt, but it would be worse than its worth to run the battery all the way down.
Just my recommendations. Not an expert, but I been around the block.
here is a reference site for battery maintenance
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/charging_lithium_ion_batteries
it is interesting for Li-Ion it says to charge whilst powered off - my phone is always in the cradle - reading this tells me that is about the worst i could do.
Snippet: from above site
"A portable device should be turned off while charging. This allows the battery to reach the threshold voltage unhindered and reflects the correct saturation current responsible to terminate the charge. A parasitic load confuses the charger.
Lithium-ion does not need to be fully charged; a partial charge is better."
This is also why I never buy a cheap charger for my devices - as you never know if the charger circuit is any good and if it switches off at the moment of full charge.
This becomes more important with devices where the battery is not "consumer accessible"
Im curious as to what controls when the dock charges the prime as Ive noticed that it doesnt charge autmatically once the two are docked.

Don't have mine yet but people are saying that the dock will let the tablet get down to 70% then it will charge the tablet back up to full, then wait for it to get down to 70% again and so on.

thanks mate
Yep, the dock starts charging the tablet when tablet drops below 70%.
It charges up to 90%.
But note that the dock also needs battery for itself, so if you have a full tablet battery the dock battery will drain as well as the tablets battery. So if you want to use the dock as mobile battery and not as a keyboard it is the best to dock the keyboard when the tablet reached about 30 or 40%.
Otherwise you will wate energy.
Also, once the dock gets down to about 30%, it will not re-charge the tablet until the tablet also gets down to 30% (guessing it's more efficient for the dock to power itself while it can). There's a 2 battery monitor widget on the market which will plot the charge for you.
the built in widget monitors both batteries when they're connected, and the quick settings in the notification panel also shows both.
but the few apps on the market are smaller widgets if that's something you want

could you point me in the direction for such an app?
Fully charged both the dock and tablet, then connected them.
Noticed the docks battery was depletiing first.
Put the tablet to sleep and noticed this morning the dock battery is at 0%
and it has a exclamation beside it.
Is that a problem to continue using the dock when its battery is 0%?
Nope, dock will work just fine. Will not cause any damage.
Sent from my Galaxy S2
however if your dock is draining the battery on its own like that it could mean other problems. My dock charges and stays charged no problem, when i use it it seems to work properly, never had any fast drain issues with mine.
I would see about getting a replacment if i were you.
I think he means dock battery drains before the tab battery is drained, which makes sense since the dock charges the tab so of course dock will lose its charge first

My only concern was the ! mark next to the 0% dock battery status,
but it seems that is how it is designed to work.
Hi! I got this type of question about hardware of Galaxy Tab 10.1: does often putting tablet in dock station (normal without keyboard) has an influence on battery life in future? For example if i like to use it as photo frame or bedside clock. Does the battery life will shortens?
If you bought the Sammie desktop dock then it should not shorten your battery life. It is using the same charger that you bought with your tab. Also to be put into consideration if you broke in your battery before you started using the dock. Pretty much using your tab till battery is low then charge it back up. I have the dock and I too been using it the same way as well. I have not seen any changes in the battery life.
Hi. My dock battery is not charging nor giving power. I see power level.
I suppose controller went into sleep mode after overheatnig. Does anyone know pinout?

I have the same problem with the battery in my dock. I bought a damaged dock off eBay and swapped the battery, so my dock is working again (I wasn't sure if the problem was battery or dock).
I have taken the faulty battery apart, but was not able to find the problem with it. I'm sure that the cells are OK, it's just the battery circuitry that's faulty. Each time I try the dock with the faulty battery, the % drops slightly; I wonder what will happen when it reaches 0%.
