As the tittle says it, I broke my front glass. Everything else is fully operational. I have the asurion insurance. Does it cost the same to say I lost the phone as it does to send it in and have them give me a new one? I'm thinking if I tell them I lost it, I can sell mine on eBay as bad ESN, cracked glass and recoup my claim costs. Anyone have any input or experience with this?

You can give them a call and see if there is a deductible that you must pay. If it's an obscene amount of money, you can just replace the front glass. I did my father's S3 and it costed $9 in parts.

You should check out ny mobile parts. I've heard they are priced well for parts and they get parts directly from Samsung
The deductible with Asurion is $99. I know this, because I cracked the screen on mine this past Friday and the replacement is due on Monday.
I wonder, are they sending me a refurbished model or a new S4?

I wonder just what refurbished is??? Sometimes they can't find the prob in tech and you have to send the phone back for a new (refurbished) one..
To replace the gorilla glass 3 it will run you $300 + / -
Just use Asurion, they will charge u $99
Phoneclaim.com is fastest and easiest way to start claim process.
Best wishes

Yes. they includes a prepaid shipping label. just mailed it back in the same box it came. my phone was totally messed up so i didnt care. when you call them they ask what happened and if you still have the phone in your possession, not sure what they say/make you do if you say you no longer have the phone. If you tell them you still have it, they will require you to send the old one back

I had asurion insurance also. Broke my droid x, paid 100 dollars, got a new one in 3 days. I had to mail the old one. My understanding is that if you report it stolen or lost and can't turn it in, the phone's serial number etc are all invalidated so there's no way to connect to a service. Basically rendering the device a wifi only device.
Hence when buying from ebay or craigslist a "used" phone, you need to make sure you can actually get service on it.

Yes, but that would be perfect for what he wants to do.
Sell it on eBay as a bad ESN, basically a "parts" phone.
With much difficulty given the state of the cracked screen, I finally FDR'd my broken S4 in the recovery menu. Is there anything else I should do to ensure old data won't be recovered, or can I leave it with the the data wipe/factory reset?
I'm surspised they sent me a brand new phone in box with all new accessories. Weird thing is a few days later I turn on the broken s4 to recover some files and I out it on WiFi only to upload to drop box and a few minutes later it just bricked itself. I booted into recovery and wiped, it still won't boot up. I'm gonna try Odin later

So I dropped my thunderbolt the other night and cracked the screen in three places. It still functions, its just very annoying to look at. If I were to do an insurance claim anyone know the chances of getting another 32 GB MicroSD card with it? I could use one for my Xoom
About as good as your chances of finding one in the street.
Any insurance or warranty I've dealt with ship you the unit.
You supply battery, charger and the memory card.
Unless you can somehow convince them the memory card is bad as well...but good luck.
I'm not here to judge you...

Yeah I agree. I would be VERY surprised if they gave you an SDcard at all, especially a 32GB.

This.
I work for Sprint and whenever we order new phones (either insurance claim for customers or our in-store replacement) they send only the device itself and the only other thing that they will send is the battery and charger ONLY if it's an entirely different phone as well as charger. Now of course I don't work at Verizon, but all the insurance claims are the exact same so I can almost guarantee they won't send it. Doesn't hurt to try, though.
so what would be the best bet? Returning it to stock and unrooting it to send it back in or just reporting it lost/stolen?

Most people just report it lost/stolen to keep the old phone (even though the esn is not longer able to activate), but what exactly are you trying to do? Get an extra 32GB SD card or just keep your same SD card? If it's the former then revert back to my first post. If it's the latter then if you are doing an insurance claim then you keep your same SD card and battery and just send the device back - also Asurion isn't going to care if it is rooted or not so there is no need to revert it back to stock. Hope that helped.
I had mine replaced a while back for the same exact reason. Finally bit the bullet on the annoyance factor...I was hoping for an extra sd card but no luck. Would have been a sweet deal though I must say. BTW asurion could probably care less, I've sent them a handful phones that were still rooted and rommed over the last couple years.
I have done two insurance claims with Asurion in the past. Both were with the D1. Both times i had to send in just the phone (no sdard and no battery) and both times they shipped me a new phone, battery, sd card and charger. It was a new box with all the normal accessories included. So, i dunno why everyone is saying no. Is it a different policy with the Thunderbolt?

That may be back in the day (if you're talking about the droid 1) but I have not seen that happen for a while, and with as common of a phone as the Thunderbolt I can almost bet they won't do that (popularity=more refurds available). And are you sure that it wasn't a warranty replacement as opposed to an insurance claim? Either that or you got extremely lucky two times because insurance usually doesn't cover the SD and battery (which are considered accessories). Because the phones never come in a new sealed box - they usually come in a generic box without accessories.

Yeah, It was an insurance claim and it was a droid 1. I dropped them in water both times and they didn't work any longer. Cost me the deductable and arrived in the mail within two days both times. Sad this has changed. $8 a month and deductible gets you a referb with no accessories now? I may cancel mine after reading this. What a rip off.

Yeah because it's way better to pay $400-$500 for a new phone outright when you don't have insurance. I agree insurance is a little expensive but it is a way better option than buying a new phone outright. Most people don't have that option. It's insurance, what insurance company have you ever had that didn't charge a deductible?

Yes and no...insurance is good because it gives you an option other than the old "you're **** out of luck" that most of use face that don't have insurance and then ***** and complain about them not doing anything about it and/or not having insurance added and likewise to what przfghtr said what insurance company has there ever been that hasn't charged a deductible? The price sucks but it is definitely a lot better than paying $500+ for the phone outright.
A 2-second google search returned some refurbished thunderbolts for around $300. And since that's what you apparently get with the insurance, that's really what price you should qoute, not new price. Anyway, I'm not telling you to dump your insurance, but i am. With my current deductable they are only covering $150 for $8 a month. Waste of money IMO.

I'm currently on the "tier1" plan from Asurian(sp?). My replacement fee is still $99, the same price it was for me back when I had my Droid 1.
I have to send my old TB back tomorrow, I was able to get the latest OTA On it, but.. since the USB Is busted(I sent it in originally bad Microphone), I cant re-lock the boot loader. I really hope they just look at it power up, and go OK, and throw it back at HTC. And not load up the boot loader NOt sure if they would hit me with $99 for the phone or $500 for a replacement

I'm interested in where you found these refurbished models because the lowest price that I found when searching was $385 retail. Also is it $150 for an insurance deductible with Verizon? All I know is that there are (usually) two different tiers: One being feature phones which are $50 for a deductible and $100 for smartphones and to my knowledge that was the same across the board (I also worked at At&t before and it was the same deductible pricing). So if that's the case you would be paying a total of $192 for the entirety of your contract for insurance and then a $100 deductible (this is assuming you keep the insurance on for the duration of your contract) still would come out cheaper than purchasing a refurbished phone outright and being overnighted free (as Asurion does).
Insurance isn't for everyone; some people see the amount of value that it has, others don't - it's subjective like anything else. Also insurance is universal: you're betting it'll break, they're betting it won't.

My brother works for Asurion and their policy has always been to replace with a refurbished phone whenever possible. With that said, you most likely received new phones because they did not have any refurbished D1s to replace it with since it was one of the first android phones Verizon carried there were no other options to replace it with (although at one point they were replacing the D1 with the Eris). If you read your insurance paperwork it says they replace with a refurbished model OR another model that is similar. At times they have replaced high end android models with low end android models. This is why I use another 3rd party insurance other than Asurion.

It does not matter if you are rooted or not with Asurion. Asurion is a 3rd party vendor. They are not Verizon and are not checking to see if you are rooted. They receive the phone and have the issue fixed clean the phone up and it becomes a refurbished unit that they send out to someone else later.

thank you for the confirmation. Also can I get your bros number just in case my phone breaks?
Thank god for Asurion. Haven't had it in years, but the guy who sold me my note2 talked me into it. Fast forward to today, and I dopped the phone coming out of lunch today onto the concrete. Have a case, but it was no match. Screen cracked and unresponsive.
They are sending a replacement, for a reasonable $100. Can I expect a new model since it's only a few days old or will it be refurbished. Just curious mostly. Happy to not have to shell out another $700 bucks.
No way will they have refurbished units this close to the release. Would would almost guarantee that it's a new one.

From what I understand, the first 30 days they have to send you a new one. After 30 days, you may get a refurb.
You will receive a new one. I just received my wifes replacement this afternoon and it was brand spanking new. I should have ordered her case early since I know shes clumsy. I'm happy I opted for insurance, which I usually do for at least the first 6 months.
Nice thing about the ordeal is I get to keep battery and charger, and since the replacement was new, I received a second charging set.
That's how the VZW rep sold it to me. He said, "Add it, keep it for a few months, then remove it. It can always be removed, but after 30 days, not added" - Glad I took the advice. I never keep a phone more than 1 year anyways, so keeping the insurance for about 6 months or so sounded like a good idea. Going to send him a gift card for talking me into it!
What case were you using at the time?
That's good. I keep insurance on my line because even buying this party (including ebay and craigslist) you're covered on the device you were using.
new device or not they'll probably still replace the imei sticker with one of their own.
Not sure how it effects warranty.
For the first time ever I got insurance for my Note 2.
What sold me was that the Verizon rep said that manufacture defects are covered for 2 years instead of one.. no deductable. I ALWAYS seem to have issues come up.. keyboard fails on the OG Droid at 14 mos.. charging ports break.. etc.
I plan to have this phone for a LONG time.. ending my yearly upgrades.. lol. So, insurance seemed like a good idea!

I had my S3 replaced a few times before finally upgrading to the note 2.
Each time it was replaced I received a brand new in box device. The last time I had it replaced I asked about it. I was told that the S3 is always replaced with a new device due to the cost of parts/labor to repair.
I'm not sure if the note is the same way, but I hope so. While I hope that I don't need it again, it is nice to know that you're getting new and not refurbished.

Last month when I dropped and broke my Note 2, I went onto asurion's website, filed a claim, gave them my info (this was at 11PM), and the next day at noon I had a new Note 2 on my doorstep. I just had to ship back my damaged Note 2 without any accessories, so I got to keep the battery as a spare. I imagine it's the same way for the S4.

I have Squaretrade for my wifes S3. They are cheaper, especially with discount codes, but they are also $99 deductible but they require you to send in the phone for repair, no swap. Turn around on my wifes S3 for cracked screen was about 5-6 days from when we sent it in.
Personally, I just started hanging on to my previous old phone for insurance.
last september i left my phone ontop of my dads car and forgot it up there. found it a few blocks away, screen smashed but it still turned on, was able to save all my **** off it.
called them up around 8pm EST, by 10am the next day there was a brand new nexus at my door. cost me $100 but for the service, speed and the replacement it was worth it.
Verizon's insurance is **** in my opinion who wants to pay $99 to replace a broken phone and they will only replace it 2-3 times. So I went and got mine through Best Buy and pay for their replacement plan which is like 10$ a month and there is no deductible if you break and need your phone replaced. So Im sorry for whoever has to pay that lol

for the $72 difference over 2 year cost ill take the verizon insurance. Unlike best buy I get a BRAND new phone, not a refurb. best buy also doesn't cover lost or stolen devices. I also get the phone either next day or 2 day, best buy cant beat that. I do not trust the quality of refurbs that get put into the best buy system. I use to work for best buy in the geek squad and we handled the insurance exchanges, i do not have a good taste in my mouth from them. I'd get refurb backs that had issues right out of the box, had slight wear. I rather pay the $100, even though its few and very far between to get the phone replaced. the first year you are covered by manufactures warranty so why bother.

So... hear me out haha. This is all based on what they told me on the phone but they may tell you something else if you call them.
If you have a 32gb HTC One and file a warranty claim (you get one year free of it through AT&T), they will send you a "like new" device for free, then you have to send yours back to them within ten days.
What they told me on the phone though when I talked to them was that if I don't send my phone back, I have to pay them $210 for my "defective" unit. In reality, the only defect my unit has is that the battery doesn't last all day, I only get about 10 hours out of it.
If you don't want to send them the phone you have back, just keep it and take the charge, then sell your phone or the phone they send you on eBay for $500 and you're pocketing almost $300...
I will say again, I only heard them mention the $210 fee and didn't ask at all about that. If you currently have a HTC One on AT&T and you're having some problems maybe with it, try this out and see if it works.
Thought I would let you guys know. Don't hate haha.
In just guessing but that may result in a bad ESN or what ever it's called for not sending it in??? Maybe not idk but seems like they would be smarter than that...

i honestly don't know. personally, i'm sending mine back cause i can't afford losing a potential $200, but if anyone is having troubles with their device and can risk it, go for it.
NOTE: i did not tell you guys this for anyone to try to scam att... they aren't losing any money in this if it works. just thought i would let you all know. thanks.
I stop reading when you said your only problem is "the battery doesn't last all day"

You would be charged the full value, ie $599.99, if you don't return it. He/she gave you bad information.
Either way this is super fraud no matter how you look at it

They black list the device that doesn't get sent back for this exact reason.

They only charge $200, but they blacklist the device.

I was told that my warranty exchange would cost $609 if I didn't return it. I got a 64GB One. $200 sounds like an insurance claim. Regardless, it's definitely fraud.

Exactly what sliderocket said, $609 was what I was told as well, the rep even stated that it was the most expensive he had ever seen. 64 GB as well.
Exchanging my 32gb, and it's $545 if I don't send current model back
I was told full price on my Nokia, but my one was bought new off ebay for $450...... So warranty is invalid..
Yea you were definitely given bad info. Fraud aspect aside, they have always charged around full retail for any warranty claim device that isn't returned within 10 days.

That's not fraud if your phone is really broken. If they instruct you to send it back when you receive your replacement or pay $200 then you have the option of sending it back or paying $200. However, it would be fraud if your phone works perfectly fine and you are trying to get a replacement you aren't entitled to just to sell your working phone.
Anyone using an AT&T One on a different network able to get a warranty exchange from AT&T? It was bought third party via CL and the Mic doesn't work in calls (but works on speakerphone during calls...Any idea there?).

You'll have a hard time if you don't have an AT&T account. Might want to go through HTC directly.

After 2 months of taking great care of my "naked" G2, it fell 3 feet off my nightstand onto the wood floor and shattered. The bottom part of the screen doesn't appear to work, which means I can't even enter my unlock code (swipe). I've submitted for a replacement with Asurion, but apparently they're on backorder and don't know when they will have any in stock...
I was under the impression they replace phones with new ones if they don't have refurb's in stock. I guess not anymore...
Anyone else replace their G2 with Asurion?

They should replace it with a new 1 if they don't have it in stock.
Try calling them again and see if you can get help from someone else.

Thanks for the tip - just called back. Apparently they have nothing in stock, are awaiting new G2's, and will notify me when they have a new one.
Although the same guy said that they don't give out refurbished phones, just new ones, so I don't know what to believe....

If they have a reconditioned device they will send those.
If they don't have reconditioned then they will send new 1's.
Unless they are out of stock completely. Which you will then have to wait until they have 1 or the other.

You could probably get them to give you a different device also. I believe they are obligated to provide a replacement device within 72 hours. I will look into where I read that before.

Yes. If they don't have any reconditioned or new then they can send you a comparable model.

This is how I got my G2. Bought it on craigslist from some guy who broke the screen for $100. $99 deductible with Asurion and they sent me a brand spaking new G2 for $200 total (kept my verizon unlimited plan). I just sent the old broken one in, so maybe you'll be in luck
Hooray for insurance fraud! Oh wait.....

Okay I was going to start a thread about this a few days ago but I didnt get around to it. My screen broke last week from a short fall and I went to verizon because my fiance was upgrading. Anyway, there were 2 people there at the counter who where complaining about this because they had filed a claim on their broken G2 screen and both of them told me they were gonna be on back order till around January or February....yeah im just as frustrated and the only replacements they might send is a Droid Max or MotoX. So the best solution Verizon is doing for this right now is sending in an order for a temp flip phone for our broken device till the devices can be replaced...but youll still be charged $20 a month for being a smartphone plan even though you currently dont have one. This sucks...
Edit: Here use this, download it from your computer and install it to your phone remotely so you can rotate your screen around if your having problems with half your screen like me. It might hold you over for a month or so longer.

C. Replacement equipment may, at our option, be refurbished equipment or different equipment of like kind and quality.
Just remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease. cause a ruckus with both the insurance company and the carriers, their is no reason for the back order and demand a phone with the same specs or better.
curious as to why your going through asurion when its a year warranty on the phone

I dropped mine on the freeway, i forgot it on top of my car and drove off lol. My screen cracked and it will not register my fingers to unlock also.I sent it into LG for repairs, it was 142 total. Plus my 10 dollar to ship it to LG facilities in texas. I'm getting it back by Saturday, says Fedex. I shipped it to them and they received it on November 22nd.. so about two weeks turn around.
I broke mine and called them. They told me to buy one and I'd get a reimburse check minus the deductible in a few weeks.

So after speaking to Asurion yesterday and being told they have no idea when there will be more G2's in, I got an email from them last night that they have my phone ready to ship. Their web site was screwed up and not letting me continue, so I called and gave them the address and credit card info. The phone is out for delivery today....Damn.
@ Walter21026: Thanks for the tip. Tried installing from Google Play's website, not sure if it installed or not. Still shows lockscreen. Truth is, most of the touchscreen now seems to be useless. Thanks anyways.
@ antawnm26: I dropped the phone and cracked the screen. AFAIK, warranty is if something is defective, not if I am at fault for the screen being shattered.

Great questions!
We'd love to clear up the confusion for you. Our goal is to get you reconnected as quickly as possible by providing a like-for-like replacement. We do use both new and remanufactured phones in order to provide this service. Rest assured, all of our remanufactured phones use 100% OEM parts and come with a 12-month limited warranty. Your device will be replaced at no charge if it has a warranty failure during that time period. While we do operate from a separate set of inventory from your local store; like them, our inventory constantly changes. In the event your device is unavailable at the time of your claim, we will discuss the options available to you at that time.
We understand you have already been in contact with us regarding your claim. We welcome you to track the status of your claim at www.phoneclaim.com. We are also more than happy to assist you via email at [email protected].
We are here to help if you need us!
Thanks!

The white LG G2 on verizon seems to be still back ordered, with no ETA. Local verizon stores said they are out of stock as well. Not sure when they are coming back.
