I may have done my phone in this time... it fell into a tub of water for no more than three seconds while on. I think this may do what all my tinkering/Odin-ing/Heimdall-ing never managed to do. I grabbed it an took the battery out and I am currently in the process of taking it apart using the little blue tool that I got along with the new ffc camera that I have yet to install.
Has anyone dropped this phone in water while on and it not be negatively affected?
There are special items for this, but most people suggest sealing it up in rice... air tight.

have saved many a phone from davy jones' locker with this method.
My friend's Vibrant fell on a bucket of water and it still worked.
And my Vibrant has washed it's face with me in the mornings and eaten ice cream (I think it wanted to try the next update, but the wrong way)
I think it will survive.
Just don't turn it on or anything until you are completely sure it's try.

The phone is currently completely taken apart and in a bed of brown rice inside a tightly sealed tupperware container. I shall post results of the procedure later... although I don't know how much longer I should wait. I'll give it at least a day, but I'm open to suggestions. I guess I should say that when I opened the phone I didn't notice that water had made it anywhere onto the motherboard, but it's possible that I missed it.
Mine took a dive into the toilet and didnt have any issues. The seal is pretty tight and the air inside the case doesnt escape through the USB/Headphone jack easily. If there was no water in the battery compartment you are probably safe but 24 hours in rice was still done just in case. Been about a month now.

I would give it a couple of days anyhow did you pulll the sd card and sim card?

Mine survived a quick dip in the pool.....I feel rice saved it....3 days in a ziplock bag of rice completely disassembled......works fine,no issues whatsoever

That sucks though.
Mine too decided it was a good day for a dip in the pool on Monday... I simply took the battery, SIM and SD cards out, wrapped it in 8 socks and threw it in the dryer with a load of dry laundry for 15min...
It wouldn't turn on with the power button... so I plugged it into my computer and the charge indicator came one. From then on, everything worked great!
Mine was in my pocket and i got pushed in the pool.. I pulled the battery and waited like 3 days turned it back on and it works but i got lines from top to bottom and it fades in and out.. It works as my test phone..

I was wondering what the verdit was do you have a phone or a paper weight?
Works perfectly! I put the phone back together finally last night and went ahead and installed the new ffc I bought a while back, and it is back up and running as if nothing happened.

I dropped my Vibrant into water for 3 seconds, but after drying it out the touchscreen wasn't functional. After the first reboot... stucked at Vibrant logo, not being able to move ahead. Odin finds my phone in downdload mode, I can reflash roms, kernels , but still won't reboot into one. Stucks at bootloader. Is it hardware broken?

Yours is toast. Same thing happened to mine had. Nothing would allow it past the vibrant logo. Used my insurance.

The water indicator didn't turn pink. So even though I have no insurance or waranty, I still hope to have o chance to recover my Vibrant. I took it to a guy who says he'll write the bootloader directly on the CPU, not through the USB cable like I did We'll see what happens, I have no other option.Thanks for your replies
Ok i dropped my GS2 in water the other day aswel but i took it off within few seconds,I kept the battery and phone in uncooked rice overnight.Next morning when i try to switch it on, walla! it started perfectly until it showed low battery. I kept the phone on charge(battery with exclamation mark appeared on screen) then i tried to switch it back On after a while but it just wont start !! HELP

Let it rest more. I dropped my laptop into water in the bathtub, not full of water, but the water was on. Waited two weeks and laptop was fine, no rice was used btw.

The rice trick should have done it, I recommend it often, but I fear you may now have damaged the phone by not leaving it long enough and subsequently putting it on charge.
Also note, most phones have water damage litmus indicators in now so your warranty is screwed too.

Depends really, you can insure a phone at most stores these days and they will replace it regardless if you do. If your household insurance is all risk, this will cover your phone as well. (note both options costs extra money a month)
But if he does not have any of that he is indeed screwed.
Also, when dropping a phone in the water remove the battery and let it dry for at least 1 week. prefered 2 weeks. Do it in dry rice or with those moist absorbing packs you find in shoes and **** these days.
It's very possible only your battery is dead, considering the phone switched on fine and it's only the charging that doesn't work. Buy a cheap battery off ebay and try it out.
I think you might be right, If the phone would have been a goner it wouldn't have started at first.But i just cant find the water damage indicators on battery or phone,just to check if i can get it repaired through warranty

Well i guess ur right.Its not the first time my phone got water damaged.In past my HD2 actually sat in water for much much long time but then i kept the phone near heating for 4-5 days and it worked perfectly well.
(although the damage indicators turned red)

I'm just speculating about the indicators on the sgs ii, it's common practice for other manufacturers to use them, often in plain sight. The gs ii, may not have any but if it does they're probably inaccessible inside.
Best bet is to examine some tear down photography. Maybe ifixit has one?

Uncooked rice is inefficient. Not sure why people use that when they can use either silica gel or desiccant, both of which come when you buy certain dry foodstuff or PC cases/computer parts/cameras (or you can buy it from the camera store). Is it worth saving a few dollars and risk the water being in your phone for that much longer?

Hello everybody...
I'm almost in the same situation as chelseafan...
GS2 dropped in the water, switched off, tried to dry it with my hairdryer, then successfully switched on. Everything seemed to work just fine, but then it suddenly died and I couldn't turn it on again.
I probably didn't wait enough to let it dry (a couple of hours) and now it's in a box with rice and silica.
I couldn't find any water detector sticker or similar, is there any feedback for this kind of sensors on the GS2? I was just trying to understand if I can get it repaired in warranty or not...

Nope water damage is chargeable .Indicator somewhere under the camera area .

Thanks jje, I'll try to let it dry some days more and then we'll see... Maybe I'm lucky!
Speaking from experience, rice works, but overnight is not enough, should have left it longer, next mistake is powering it on and charging it, water and electricity do not mix, that may be the stick that broke the camels back, but I hope not in your case.....

As I see it in the pictures there are two Water Indicator stickers in the phone.
1. In de corner of the battery compartment, down to the right
2. In de back housing, not the battery cover, between the small camera window and the speaker opening.
You can see them in the pictures 1 and 2 of Step 4.
Apparently Samsung uses white stickers with blue/purple crosses on it. They are about 3 by 3mm.
I've been lucky! After 3 days turned off and closed in a box with plenty of rice and silica, my GS2 is back and working perfectly! No issue detected so far!
So, a little list of suggestions after my bad experience:
1- GS2 is NOT waterproof
2- the fastest you take it out from water the best chances to have it working again you have
3- take out the battery as fast as you can and don't turn it on
4- silica and rice worked just fine for me, but be patient, you will need at least 3-4 days
5- be perseverant: after one day of treatement I couldn't switch on my GS2, but atter 3 days everything was ok!

Here is my short story:
I lost my phone in the garden, after 3 days of searching and as the snow melted, i saw it lying on the ground, unfortunately turned off. Dont think this happend because of low battery rather than because of the water.
After i found it, i immediately dissassembled it without turning on and now its drying..i will wait for some days, until i can get some isopropanol(97% alcohol or so).
The water-indicator is lilac, not shure, but this means damaged by water, right?
So now here are my questions..is there even a chance that the isopropanol might help?..because the phone was turned on as i lost it, and i think it stopped working due to the water, not because of low battery..so is it already to late? Does this method only help if the phone is still working?
And which parts should be bathed in isopropanol ? E.g. is it bad for the camera, the microphones, the screen and the speakers, as i have read somewhere?
And if for example the screen would be damaged, would it be bad for the logicboard, too, if i reassemble it again and test it then?
And is there any possibility i can find out which part is defect, if it won´t work at all?
Are there any other options left for me?

I would guess your screwed mate. My girls phone was dropped in water for less than 2 seconds and it killed. You are stuffed as soon as it turns off because something has shorted

Weird... I've gotten lots of rain onto my phone, and no damage at all... But of course that's not the same as dropping it in the snow...
Sadly there is no 100% solution for water damage. My dad once in a while will give a bath to his phones and the best solution I have found is to put the phone in a plastic bag full of rice and leave it there for as long as you can.
Of 3 phones 2 of them were saved using this method (one of them was saved multiple times).

Where these phones still turned on as they got wet and you took them out of the water? Or had they turned off theirselves already?

It's worked for my old N73, but don't know will it work for GS2. but you can still try it
Just the board. If you drop the phone in it, it will damage other components. Then get a tooth brush and gently clean the board while alcohol is on it. Then check the battery for corrosion on the contacts to see if its fried. If so get a new one soon

keep it away from mics. clean gently as above mentioned with a medium toothbrush. clean all the board but also clean the connectors such as the connector of lcd both on logic board and lcd itself. clean also all gold contacts such as antenna contacts, buzzer contacts ands earpiece contacts.
isopropanol should be sold on every pharmacy. and if you can find glass fiber sticks to clean gold plated contacts as i mentioned above only if they are corroded.
I have dissassembled my device to the logicboard+camera, there are no mics on it anymore, only problem might be the camera connected to it.
The rest of the phone(display,which is glued to the fronthousing i think, usb-connector, and speakers)is still in the front housing.
I´m on step 6 in ifixit.com teardown, only with camera still connected, if you want to see pics.(sry cant post links)
Everything is covered in rice for 24h now
Would it be okay for the camera to be bathed in alcohol? Because the camera is still connected to the logicboard, and i am not shure whether i should dare disconnecting it..its a very thin connector..??
Did anybody revive his device, which was already turned off because of the water damage? Is this even possible in theory, if the device already shut down itself?

Usually the water will only freeze the phone and will remain on until you take the battery out or the battery power is depleted.
Just take it apart and put it in the bag of rice and forget abut it for a couple of days (*you should have already done this by now*).
As for the alcohol cleaning I'v never done that. The idea of the alcohol is to prevent rust but the rice will remove all humidity out of the phone.
Ok so after 4 days of drying, it now shows a triangle and a battery symbole.
Better than nothing i suppose, at least the screen seems to be working
Does anybody know what that symbole means? Is just the battery faulty(my hope)?
Battery or USB plug problem.
Try other battery, if that doesn't help, get new usb board thingy from ebay

Great news! I had the chance to try a battery from a friend, and it worked!!
Already ordered a new one, although I am not sure, maybe the voltage from the old one is just too low and recharging would solve the problem, but dont want to risk anything

I have a serious problem and i want your help.I read all the articles about dropped in water but i can't solve my problem. So i am starting from the beginning.
Yesterday my phone was dropped in the toilet for 2-3 sec (stupid i know). I took it, i remove immediately all the parts (battery, sim, external sd) and i start blow with hairdrier (mistake i know) after 2-3 hours i try to switch on the phone with no result so i continue my stupidity... I connect the phone on the charger with no result but as i noticed the back of the phone was warming. After that i read the articles (the first correct thing). So i put the phone in a rice inside a Tupperware and i wait for 8 hours. Then i start the phone and WOW it was working fine for only 10 sec. Then a battery message appear that i must charge the phone and the screen went black but the sounds and the touch was working. So i close the phone and i put it in the charger ( i know,,, i know...) After 10 min i remove the phone from the charger because was warming. I tried to switch on but the screen continue to be black and the sounds and the touch working... So i remove again everything and i put it in the rice again until today 2 hours ago.
I switch the phone and the phone started and the screen working except 1/4 of the screen in the above right place. So i close the phone and i put it in the rice again.... I noticed that when the phone is closed there is difference in colour between the black screen that working and the black part that is not working. So after again 2 hours in the rice i noticed that the black screen that is not working start to expanded in the left top side of the phone... and i am wondering, this thing is a water or something from the screen liquid?
Please help me if you can. I will appreciate your help.

I don't know if anyone can help you, it is a smelly affair.
If you were using some kind of disinfectant inside of your toilet (especially the smell of the sea or green apple) you have a huge problem.
More seriously, the layers of the screen stratify from each other. You can only replace whole screen, but I suppose that the rest of your phone also will die sooner or later.
Sell it as defective. Repair will be too expensive.

Dear friend i appreciate your knowledge and i want to inform you that inside the toilet their was NOT any kind of disinfectant inside.

Okay, don't be nervous, just kidding.
No, unfortunately there is nothing you can do yourself, only replace faulty screen. You just can't stick your digitizer to screen with somekind homemade tricks. And I don't want to worry you, but I'm afraid that there will be also micro corosion on your phone motherboard.
If you really want to try to reanimate it, than you must take it apart, dry all components with rice method or better by using special adhesive liquid used in electronic to remove all wet.
If the glue from the screen has not been rinsed completly than you can try to squeeze layers by placing a book or something heavyweight and flat on top and simultaneously heat it with a hair dryer. Repet this operation few times without taking out weight.
I really doubt that this will help much but if you really wish to try than go ahead. You can always sell it after that. Even in parts.
There is somewhere on this forum instruction how to unscrew i9100 completly.

Theres guys on here that have went swimming with their phones and they still work.Youd only get about £130 max on eBay for the phone if you admit its water damaged.
Youd be better soaking the phone in that alcohol stuff then drying it via rice for a week.

I had a nokia once which fell in water, I pulled the battery out dried it with a cloth and put it back in and the screen flashed so I turned off, put it in rice for 24hrs then it worked great except there was some water on the screen from inside.
I forgot the name *-) but it was a kind of copy of the iphone at that time and it had a pressure touch screen *-)

Hello, I have problem here. My friend's phone got wet when she plays in the river (how stupid), and she come to my house. Her phone is Samsung Galaxy Young GT-S6310. She wants to repair her phone to me because the touch screen of her phone is not responding anymore and I accept it but, I told her if her warranty is no longer available, and she said it's no longer. I started to disassemble it, and removing the body and I see the residue of water. I began clearing it and test it (without the body) and nothing happen. I check inside of the covering plate (the stainless plate when you remove the battery) and I see some residue but not water anymore, it heated up and cleaning it again, but still nothing. I tried my best repairing her phone but no success. I told her to come back anytime so she go home and so, I start to research someting. But I didn't search that night, I have a very, VERY, slow connection. So today still nothing so that's why I post here for question.
If someone have an idea, please post here.

you messed up trying to power it on or use it when there is water inside. best thing you could do is blow dry it to dry anything else and leave it in rice to absorb any drops od rice

I tried to rice it up for a whole day, didn't work, I do this 3 times to check inside. Should I buy a new digitizer? It's not available in my current country.

yeah just buy a new one. i imagine if its not working now, then it wont be working anytime soon. have a good day mate!
Ok, I already fix it. First, I lie the logic board and the digitizer outside to heat up for 4 hours under the sun, second, I submerged with rubbing alcohol, third dried up and finalizing, and finally, assembled up, plug the charger in, charge up, boot up, it works!
I search some threads that rubbing alcohol will work.
