Hello, I have problem here. My friend's phone got wet when she plays in the river (how stupid), and she come to my house. Her phone is Samsung Galaxy Young GT-S6310. She wants to repair her phone to me because the touch screen of her phone is not responding anymore and I accept it but, I told her if her warranty is no longer available, and she said it's no longer. I started to disassemble it, and removing the body and I see the residue of water. I began clearing it and test it (without the body) and nothing happen. I check inside of the covering plate (the stainless plate when you remove the battery) and I see some residue but not water anymore, it heated up and cleaning it again, but still nothing. I tried my best repairing her phone but no success. I told her to come back anytime so she go home and so, I start to research someting. But I didn't search that night, I have a very, VERY, slow connection. So today still nothing so that's why I post here for question.
If someone have an idea, please post here.

you messed up trying to power it on or use it when there is water inside. best thing you could do is blow dry it to dry anything else and leave it in rice to absorb any drops od rice

I tried to rice it up for a whole day, didn't work, I do this 3 times to check inside. Should I buy a new digitizer? It's not available in my current country.

yeah just buy a new one. i imagine if its not working now, then it wont be working anytime soon. have a good day mate!
Ok, I already fix it. First, I lie the logic board and the digitizer outside to heat up for 4 hours under the sun, second, I submerged with rubbing alcohol, third dried up and finalizing, and finally, assembled up, plug the charger in, charge up, boot up, it works!
I search some threads that rubbing alcohol will work.

There is a fix rule when electrical devices come in contact with water, you don't try to power them on and you don't try to charge them!!
The best you could do is to open the phone and let it dry out! leave it drying for days!
I suppose you could use a hair dryer...
If you are lucky it will work..if not you've probaly short circuited it...

never ever use a hairdryer!
just put it it down somewhere turn i around every 30 min this way it will not cause any corrosion but yeah when you sleep you cant turn itaround so before you go to bed and then after but keep the water moving it is better!

Fill a cup with Isopropanol Alcohol, and drop the phone in.
Seal the lid.
Leave somewhere for a could hours, shaking around a little every so often to get the fluid into every nook and cranny.
Remove phone and shake out fluid. Leave sitting wrapped in a towel in a warm place (airing cupboard etc) but nowhere too hot.
That SHOULD get all the water out, however you probably already destoyed it by plugging it in.
Put in a jar filled with raw rice or a container containing semi-powdered quicklime it will ofc absorb water and let it dry for 4-5 days and try charging or turning it on...hope my reply ain't too late

Strange but true, you should have DIRECTLY put it in raw rice.
That will absorb the water greatly.
Put ur phone out of water. Dont turn on ur phone. Put ur device in some place by about 1 day and dont touch it!... then try again.
Rice is the answer! It sucks all the water away in a week... although i would leave it 2, just to be 100% sure

Sorry guys this happened like a week or two ago now. Took the battery out asap, left it for two days, hair dried it and then tried and it didn't work. I plugged it into the charger to see if it was just the battery that's ****ed, apparently just the battery is dead.
It was in a pool, so chlorine could have corroded some parts? Could I try to clean off the corrosion, replace parts etc. Or would it be cheaper to send to sony ericsson and get them to fix it?
Sony will just replace the whole phone and charge you a repair fee iirc.
Isopropanol may help with corrosion, but you need to strip the phone down to bare boards and parts, and soak it in the alcohol, then brush at with a SOFT toothbrush and gentle motions.
Isopropanol dries fast and leaves no residue, so it's ideal for loosening gunk and driving out water. I've used it with great success to salvage laptops filled with everything from cola to beer as well as waterlogged wristwatches.

few days ago my mini pro also dripped into water i instantly removed battery
so may be damage not done to much but after that i removed water by wiping with cloth & than place it near hot air remover heater
after that i opened it thoroughly each & every part & u know water is in each & every part so i opened whole phone screen main board camera keyboard etc. & than i used hair dryer to remove water from every part of phone don't place all parts too much close to the phone or don't use hair drier for too long continuously but u can easily able to know that part is dried or not
after that in main board also u can dry it with hair dryer after u can convinced that there is no water particles remain in phone lets switch on it
after this all i done i start my phone successfully with all features working after 2 hours
& now just my keyboard lights are not working, they are working but only for 2 seconds so i have no prob with that however i give it to service center to short it out but yes this is the only solution u can get your phone working!!

This is the best solution but since its been a while now it probably wont work, and also because your already tried charging it and turning it on. Personally i would send it to say and get then to fix, but it may even be cheaper to buy a new device as basic warrenty will not cover water damage.

Ok so I accidently bumped my fence which had my phone on it which had a pot of water next to it. Then my phone dropped in it and i pulled it out as quickly as possible and took out the battery. FYI: My phone was still working underwater. HUGE MISTAKE. I popped in my battery to see which things worked and etc and also when i booted my phone back up the battery dropped 20%. Then i took out the battery, sim card, and sd card and let it dry in the sun. My camera is all foggy and stuff now. Can anyone help me fix my camera, speaker and battery?
*EDIT* Also my speaker was jacked up too i think because the speaker wasnt sounding very clear.
*EDIT* #2 The good news is that my battery strip thingy didnt turn red/pink. Its still white.

If you do then it is covered. Water damage is specifically mentioned as covered.
If not . . . hmm, since the dot is still white you might still have a chance. Usually there is more than one though. The one near the battery is for a quick spot check, often there is also one inside for confirmation. Provided everything is ok, and it is still under warranty, maybe removing all signs of water (water marks, fog, ect.) and then attempting warranty fulfillment MIGHT work.
But my phone is rooted lol... so should i restore it before i do?

If you want, but from the several times here that I have seen where ppl send in their rooted Vibrants for warranty repair (usually GPS), it does not seem as if T-Mobile/Samsung really give a d4mn.
One word for you ...rice. put your phone in a bag of rice for 24 hours and don't touch it. After that take it out and clean it all up, put your battery back in and it should work perfect.
I actually washed my wife's phone and this worked. Hope this helps

It absorbs humidity.
By the way, in the future don't put the battery back in until you've let everything dry as long as possible. Any water could short circuit the phone if you put the battery back in.
I would think also about very detailed disassembling and let dry very very well for long time before trying powering the phone.
alcohol is good for wiping off some certain parts but it can break the screen seal

Don't waste your time with bleach and q-tip, just ask for the replacement and when it comes, take off the new sticker with a hair dryer, 10 seconds or so, and tweezers. Then replace the water damaged one with the new one. Just like operation.
During the storm this past weekend somebody (me) spilled a drink on my phone when the power went out. I immediately took the battery out and tried to dry out the phone as much as I could. The next day I powered up the phone only to find out that I could not make phone calls using the earpiece. Speaker phone and Bluetooth works fine. I also discovered that media will not play through the speaker although plugging headphones in works fine...the ringer and notifications work fine. Other than that, the phone works great. I tried flashing another ROM to see if just maybe it was a software thing...it wasn't.
The real issue is that I don't have insurance or store warranty coverage and my bootloader is unlocked. There is also signs of moisture on the phone. For now I can live with it, but I wanted to ask if anyone knew of any other options I could try. Or...maybe there is a way to redirect the sound??? Please help!!!

If the phone works in general... then most likely a specific piece is ruined related to the phone speaker/mic.
You can try tearing apart the phone ( I believe there are tear down guides online) and then using rubbing alcohol try to clean out any corrosion, especially around components that are having issues.
If that doesn't work, then you'll have to try to replace the component. unfortunately not sure how easy that is. Tons of components sold for iphones but doubt as much for atrix.

Yeah, I was thinking of that as an option...being optimistic, I was gonna try to use the phone for a few days and see if it miraculously clears up...wishful thinking
I bet your Atrix will revive once the hangover subsides!
No really, it will be ok I'm sure, I've seen cases where people inmerse their devices into pools and toilets only to discover a few days later that they keep on ticking.
The clue here is to be patient and keep it from using it for several days, and I'm talking 3, 5 or even a week! So be very patient.
Remove the battery and let it dry inside a bag, box or bottle filled with uncooked rice or if you have plenty of dry bags (those that come inside some medicines or electronics) use them!
Try not to disassemble the Atrix to avoid dust contamination, but if you wan't you can go ahead and do it. The Atrix is very easy to disassemble. Just use common sense, and if you use alcohol to get rid of moisture and corrosion, be wary that even cotton or cotton swabs can be dangerous since there are components that are cold-soldered onto the motherboard and can be peeled-off very easily.
Don't use a hair dryer, since you could damage the plastic if not used correctly.

I sat it in rice over night, and used a blow dryer on cool but still not dice so far. Unfortunately I don't have any other form of comms other than my Atrix...I may go and buy a cheap Go Phone to use and let the Atrix take a nap. I will be patient...I'm thinking that it will wake up one day and everything will be OK

So if the only part that's not working at the moment is the ear speaker, then maybe you can get a spare from cnn.cn and replace it yourself. Very easy to do by the way.
The bad thing is that I think they don't sell the speaker alone, but the whole modular assembly that contains the speaker, power button and biometric scanner. But check the site above to verify.

Was it a mixed or sugary drink? It could've pooled up in your speaker into something sticky. You might want to try cleaning it with alcohol disassembled. Or even dabbing it with alcohol while assembled but leave battery out and let dry at least a day. Each time you dab it with alcohol, try sopping it back up with a dry q tip.

Unfortunately it isn't just the speaker, media will not play through the loudspeaker either...kinda weird because the speaker phone works just fine. Also, game sounds don't play. I'm thinking it might be an amplifier or something.
It was a mixed drink so it did have some sugar in it.
I dropped my atrix in the toilet. It was only in there for 2 seconds max, but I dried it off and tried to see if everything still worked. None of the speakers worked, but I put it in a bowl of rice for a couple of hours in the Texas heat, afterwards everything was working fine.
I have taken my Atrix for about a 10 minute swim, after jumping in the pool with it on my hip in an otterbox defender case. I felt something on my hip and noticed my phone there! I immediately jumped out of the pool, removed the case and battery. Dried what I could with a towel. Then put the phone in rice for about 3 hours. I then took the phone out of the rice and gave it another bath in alcohol, swishing the phone around to make sure the alcohol got every where the water got... I then let the phone sit for 4 days next to a floor vent in my house. Not directly on the vent. After the four days I tried powering the phone on. The phone powered on with no problems(no sim or memory card.) I then put my sim and memory card in, plugged in the phone and tried powering the phone on again, an it would not power on.
I then took the phone apart(not completely did not dis-connect any ribbon cables etc..) and used a q-tip and rubbing alochol to wipe any contacts that I thought might have signs of oxidation or water damage. Put the phone back together and let it sit again next to a vent for another 3 days. Put my sim, memory card and batter back in and the phone powered up with no problem.
I am currently using the atrix, the only thing that does not work is the front facing camera. It just doesn't seem to want to power up... but that is something I can live with. I did even after the 7 days had some moisture between the LCD and digitizer, so I let the phone sit in my hot car for an hour or two of an on to help get rid of the moisture.
Hope this helps.. I would recommend if you see any moisture to turn the phone off and let it sit, as if you can see moisture, there is also probably some that you cannot see and could cause more damage.

what's really funny are people that put their phone up for public sale, are honest enough to mention that it was dropped in the toilet and still want market value and not the best offer. what kind of crap is that? it's my valuable crap?
Thanks for all of the help...you guys are the greatest...I will buy a backup before I tear the phone open...but I think cracking it open is in order...I think the moisture is gone but the sugar may have coated something.

I have a serious problem and i want your help.I read all the articles about dropped in water but i can't solve my problem. So i am starting from the beginning.
Yesterday my phone was dropped in the toilet for 2-3 sec (stupid i know). I took it, i remove immediately all the parts (battery, sim, external sd) and i start blow with hairdrier (mistake i know) after 2-3 hours i try to switch on the phone with no result so i continue my stupidity... I connect the phone on the charger with no result but as i noticed the back of the phone was warming. After that i read the articles (the first correct thing). So i put the phone in a rice inside a Tupperware and i wait for 8 hours. Then i start the phone and WOW it was working fine for only 10 sec. Then a battery message appear that i must charge the phone and the screen went black but the sounds and the touch was working. So i close the phone and i put it in the charger ( i know,,, i know...) After 10 min i remove the phone from the charger because was warming. I tried to switch on but the screen continue to be black and the sounds and the touch working... So i remove again everything and i put it in the rice again until today 2 hours ago.
I switch the phone and the phone started and the screen working except 1/4 of the screen in the above right place. So i close the phone and i put it in the rice again.... I noticed that when the phone is closed there is difference in colour between the black screen that working and the black part that is not working. So after again 2 hours in the rice i noticed that the black screen that is not working start to expanded in the left top side of the phone... and i am wondering, this thing is a water or something from the screen liquid?
Please help me if you can. I will appreciate your help.

I don't know if anyone can help you, it is a smelly affair.
If you were using some kind of disinfectant inside of your toilet (especially the smell of the sea or green apple) you have a huge problem.
More seriously, the layers of the screen stratify from each other. You can only replace whole screen, but I suppose that the rest of your phone also will die sooner or later.
Sell it as defective. Repair will be too expensive.

Dear friend i appreciate your knowledge and i want to inform you that inside the toilet their was NOT any kind of disinfectant inside.
Any suggestion except of sell it as defective???
Okay, don't be nervous, just kidding.
No, unfortunately there is nothing you can do yourself, only replace faulty screen. You just can't stick your digitizer to screen with somekind homemade tricks. And I don't want to worry you, but I'm afraid that there will be also micro corosion on your phone motherboard.
If you really want to try to reanimate it, than you must take it apart, dry all components with rice method or better by using special adhesive liquid used in electronic to remove all wet.
If the glue from the screen has not been rinsed completly than you can try to squeeze layers by placing a book or something heavyweight and flat on top and simultaneously heat it with a hair dryer. Repet this operation few times without taking out weight.
I really doubt that this will help much but if you really wish to try than go ahead. You can always sell it after that. Even in parts.
There is somewhere on this forum instruction how to unscrew i9100 completly.

Theres guys on here that have went swimming with their phones and they still work.Youd only get about £130 max on eBay for the phone if you admit its water damaged.
Youd be better soaking the phone in that alcohol stuff then drying it via rice for a week.

I had a nokia once which fell in water, I pulled the battery out dried it with a cloth and put it back in and the screen flashed so I turned off, put it in rice for 24hrs then it worked great except there was some water on the screen from inside.
I forgot the name *-) but it was a kind of copy of the iphone at that time and it had a pressure touch screen *-)

So after again 2 hours in the rice i noticed that the black screen that is not working start to expanded in the left top side of the phone... and i am wondering, this thing is a water or something from the screen liquid?
Please help me if you can. I will appreciate your help.

Hey, so I got an LG Optimus G off of Ebay the other day and I love it. It only lasted a few days, though. Went to the beach and set it down on the sand to pose for a picture and a wave ran up over it. I had a case on and it didn't seem like too much water got into it. I immediately shut it off.
I know I should have waited longer, but since it didn't look like too much water had gotten into it I tried to turn it on the next morning. I also plugged a charger into it, which I now realize could have been its downfall.
Anyways, it's been a couple days since then and I dunked it in rubbing alcohol to try to remove residue and then took it apart and let it sit under a fan for over 12 hours. I tried turning it on several times and nothing happened. So, after taking it apart more and blowing out the insides with one of those cans of air for removing dust, I put it back together. This time, when I pushed the power button the back button led came on. It goes off after a little while and I can't get it to do anything else. Also, the water damage indicator is still white.
So, I realize it is probably beyond saving, but the back button led coming on gave me hope that there might still be something to do. Any suggestions on anything else to try and any ideas on why the back button led is coming on?

Okay, here's another question. Would I be able to buy another phone off of Ebay that has a broken screen or something for cheap and transfer over the internal parts to my phone? Or is my screen probably messed up too?
salt can do more damage than you think , usually the screen would remain good if it was normal water , but dicey to say since it was salt water, if you can get it evaluated cheap it would make sense , not otherwise , its already an old phone going cheap, would make more sense to get another.
Any time your phone drops in water, the first thing you should never do is try to turn it on because it could damage the internals and cause a short circuit in which the electrical components may fry.
First dry your phone as much possible and put it in a bowl or bag of rice. Wait at least a few days and then try to turn it on. If it works, great! If not then it is possibly damaged but to the point not every component is damaged. It might just be the screen or the motherboard. The best bet would then be to ask a repair person to see what is broken and if it can be repaired or salvaged for some parts.
