[Q] can flash firmware over soft unlocked 3 uk phone? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
My friend has UK 3 galaxy s2 i9100. It is sitting on stock ICS 4.03 firmware and It was previously locked but I unlocked it for him by rooting with CF-Root and installed an app Galaxy_S Unlock by helroz
It worked like a treat but now his phone is getting laggy and freezing so a re-flash of the firmware is on the cards.
I would prefer to flash the latest JB firmware for him but if need be will just re-flash current firmware and wipe to get his phone all good again
If I re-flash current firmware will I lose lock and have to re-do? or Can I even think about flashing latest JB and still be able to maintain unlock or be able to re-unlock it?
The unlock app says it modified nv_data.bin so is that just an option to backup the nv_data and restore it after reflash?
Appreciate any advice.. cheers
His current build is XWLP7 baseband I9100NELP3

Have an O2 branded S2, how do I revert to normal stock?

Hi, I just got a new Galaxy S2 but it is locked to O2 and is O2 firmware branded.
I don't mind wiping all data (since there's nothing on it yet), but is there a way I can change the firmware to the original Galaxy S2 firmware?
Or what is fastest?
I don't like all the preinstalled junk that has come with the phone, I'm not bothered about unlocking it since I'm using O2 anyway.

Flash a uk rom from here. I'm personally using KH3 with XEU CSC
Locked then you need to get it unlocked .
Debrand O2 in Dev section as well .

Do I need to unlock it before I put the stock firmware on?
To unlock you need to root (use cf-root) then download chainfires unlock app from the market (may not work on newer sgs2's due to them being more secure)
You dont need to be rooted or unlocked to flash a newer stock firmware, there is a fully guide and list of firmwares to download from this thread, using any firmware from there will debrand the phone, try KG6 (older) or KH3 (newer) both are good 2.3.4 roms.

[Q] How to save original firmware + update Questions

Hello!
I got an upgrade phone from 3 UK, and i want to save the firmware on it. Is there any way to do it?
The reason why i want to save, i've never seen this baseband ver: I9100NEKF2 ...
But i want to update it to a newer (not stock one)
Can i change/ update the baseband to XXKI3 for eg?? without any problem??
I had a Samsung Galaxy S before, and i flashed it via odin, but it had that XXJV.. baseband, and i changed only within the European firmwares.
So the question is, what kind of firmware could the I9100NEKF2 be?? Can i simply install a european firmware on it without taking the risk to brick it??
And can i save somehow the original firmware just in case if anything goes wrong??
Thank you!
I tried that method...
Make sure you read all that thread before flashing...

Don't delay DO it Today...
Hello!
Thanks for the quick answer. Can i flash not carrier branded firmware on the phone, or should i choose the carrier branded one. I mean i want to install some custom rom, such as darky or cm7... Is that possible??
Thank you!

[Q] Changing device from i9100BVLPJ to i9100NELS1

Hi all,
I have two Galaxy S2 devices. One which is on tmobile UK that has a baseband i9100BVLPJ and one which is on 3 UK that has a baseband of i9100NELS1.
The tmobile device is on ICS with no official jellybean out yet where as the 3 UK device has jellybean that came out quite a while ago.
Is there anyway of changing the baseband versions so that the tmobile device will be seen as a 3 device and therefore be able to receive official jellybean?
I would rather try and stick to the offical ROM then go down the custom ROM route. If it is possible to change the devices identity over would that mean it would get a new sim lock? Also would the device then receive future 3 UK updates (assuming there Re any in the future).
Many thanks

So I can flash and both devices will be identical? Do I need to Root the device or simply flash over? Will there be any problems with simlock?
Flash unbranded firmware mate or galaxy Sim unlock from play store before you do. Test dif Sim if you flash unbranded it wont have lock
Root not needed for unbranded

lose my efs file

i losing my efs folder and files and i dont have a backup
can i recover if i install a stock firmware on galaxy s3
if yes ,were can i download the firmware my galaxy s3 its from Portugal
help me please
Depends how you 'lost' the efs. If you deleted it then no, nothing will fix it apart from a paid repair.
If you just tried to downgrade to a firmware incompatible with your efs then flashing a 4.3 stock firmware might fix it. Download from sammobile.
no i never deleted i just install a galaxy s5 rom
but now i have installed a stock rom every thing its fine my imei its good but i can unlock my galaxy s3 SIm
how do i do my firmware its 4.3
Buy an unlock code.

Couple of removing branding, flashing questions

Hi, got an old S3 and I'm handing it down to my son. It's been a great phone and is still in perfect condition. It's currently locked to the Three network UK, but I want to use it on a different network (unlock it), remove the Three branding. (Flash a stock firmware) and I'm quite happy to leave it on 4.1.2
Branding: Three UK
MODEL: GT-I9300
AP: I9300XXEMD2
CP: I9300NELK2
CSC: I9300H3GEMD1
ANDROID VERSION: 4.1.2
BASEBAND: I9300NELK2
BUILD NUMBER: JZ054K.I9300XXEMD2
I have rooted several Android Samsung phones in the past and know the procedure (although can't get my Note Pro 12.2 wifi 4.4.2 rooted) :crying:
Questions:
1) Will flashing to a stock UK firmware unlock it to all networks?
2) Based the above information, which firmware would you recommend? When I look at the firmware section theres always seems to be several UK versions but none ever have my exact numbers on them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Nemo
1) no, only buying an unlock code will work on that firmware and you can't downgrade.
2) Any stock UK firmware will work, only the model number i9300 need be the same.

Thanks for the reply Boomer: just to be certain, are you saying it has to be a firmware 4.1.2 or higher that I would have to flash? Could I install 4.3?
Regarding unlocking to any provider - could you explain how the lock is made please (genuinely interested), I have already asked Three for an unlock code anyway.
Thanks again
Nemo
The efs format was altered to prevent downgrade or free unlocking, 4.3 will work but earlier than 4.1 won't.
Network lock is a switch in efs, encrypted and can't be patched anymore.

If you are one of the lazy ones that didn't upgrade from 4.0.4 you can dump the EFS and search through to find the code, because the EFS wasn't encrypted and could be accesed by a HEX editor.
Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.
