Well it is. But if it fail, surprise.
I had my go taking a bath and not working anymore. Called Sony mobile support. They asked if the port covers were closed, if it was deeper than a meter or for more than 30 minutes.
edit: The 2 ports were close, and the phone was never deeper than 1 feet for less than 5 minutes.
They asked what the phone is doing now. Just a quick sight of sony logo then it power off. The guy told me that it's because water get in.
and ? That it's not warranty, that water damage is not covered under warranty.
I said well you sell a waterproof phone, certified ip67, but if your seal fail, it's not covered ?
They say "the port covers must have been open, otherwise how do you explain water got in ?"
They basically told me i'm on my own and they will not do anything.
Funny but i think it's my last Sony.

ahahahah, nice one.
I think i have not been clear.
The 2 ports were of course closed.
It was not the first time the phone saw the water, but this time the seal failed for some reason (unknown to me).
But the ports were closed.
All i wanted to get to your attention is, that if the seal fail, you're on your own. They certify the phone is waterproof, but they don't warranty it.

I don't see why it would be less waterproof to soap water but anyway... it was clean pool water.
Just know that it's certified waterproof, not warrantied.

The other night I stupidly hit a can of coke over onto my rez. I soaked it in rice and everything is functioning except for the proximity sensor and a mark that was caused by the liquid. The mark is getting larger constantly and now has most of my screen taken over. The touch screen still functions there but the mark is a gigantic nuisance. I also checked behind the battery and there isn't a sticker to detect water. So if there is no definite indicator that it was liquid damage should I take my phone to verizon, should I just cut my losses and buy an off contract phone, or should I just suck it up and deal with it?
Sent from my HTC Rezound using Tapatalk 2
There is supposed to be one on the edge of the battery itself, one in one of the screwholes of the red chassis cover, and one on the internal board near the headphone jack.
Make your own risk assessment based on the location of the liquid relevant to those areas, and know that sugar still may leave a telling residue after drying.
If there is no sticker, I would assume they would immediately think you removed it, thereby voiding your warranty. If they catch it after you've sent it in, you're SOL.

I dropped my last rezound in the toilet.. it completely submerged and after grabbing it and trying to get the back cover off to pull the battery (with wet hands :/) as I'm sure you can imagine how long that took. After getting the battery out I let it sit in rice for 36hrs booted back up and had zero problems.. that being said when I returned my rezound for over heating issues over five months ago Verizon didn't/ still hasn't said anything about it. And i seriously doubt they'll pull part every rezound that got sent back. Especially of it boots up..

I had something similar happen with a thunderbolt. I had a bottle of snapple break open in my backpack, and it just doused my phone. I let it dry out, and it booted, then immediately hard bricked. Never breathed life into it again. I used the asurian warranty because the stickers were clean and you couldn't see water damage under the screen.

Is the back glass also protected by a thin plastic film as the front side is? Thanks
Yup.
Sent from my Z Ultra, using XDA Premium 4
It's just a normal screen protector though, not the glued on affair like the front so is a lot easier to remove.
Sent from my C6833 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The reason I was asking is because I noticed a small hairline scratch on the back glass and I have had the phone for barely a week now. I was really surprised because I have never dropped the phone and made sure it was never placed in a pocket with other sharp objects. First I thought the glass had probably cracked but I couldn't figure out how it could've happened since it's in a protective case as well.
Got the same issue. If I remove the back screen protector, will it void warranty?

It may, or it may not. It's a lottery, and you won't know for sure until you have to get it fixed down the road. But it would be really stupid of Sony to deny you service if the motherboard is fried, but you removed a god damn shatter protector, so "no soup for you!"

I'm not talking about bending. If you put some stress on something for a period of time, it'll start to weaken and then probably creek. I don't know how old you are, but i remember when i had the Nokia 3210/3310/3410 etc. which had plastic back covers, and they would start to creek like hell after i'd removed the covers a lot.
If your thigh bumps and puts stress on the frame of the Ultra for some time (walking and sitting a lot with it in your front pocket, for example), it'll start to creek. That, i can tell you.

I have the same issue with the front facing camera, only I never dropped mine. I started playing with the front camera on Friday and noticed a shadow along one side. At first, I thought this was some kind of filter I had accidentally applied. When I could not find a way to turn it off I thought maybe the top of my case was causing it. When I looked close, I saw that the top half of the camera was being blocked by this gasket. I took it to T-Mobile and they exchanged it as a manufacturer defect and I have a new one arriving today. Once the new on gets here I'll post some pics of the bad one.

I sure try... Thanks. The difference with the post after mine is the phone was never dropped. Warranty is for defects. Insurance is for accidental damage or bricking your phone. My statement was meant for just that, if you do drop it then responsibility should be taken and it is not proper to ask here if you can get away with getting it fixed under warranty.
Cheers
Kenny

Front camera defect
Hi guys! I just joined this site to share my problem with my new Galaxy S5.
It's been weeks since i got my new phone from T-Mobile. I love it! It's a expensive phone so a good cellphone case is a must. I have a case and screen protector to protect my device. Suddenly, I just found out the same problems you had with your phones. I've never dropped mine either. So I think it's gonna be a manufacturer defect. Something is blocking the front camera. Again, I never dropped my phone, it doesn't have any scratches on the screen and any dents on its body.
I went to my network provider and ask for help about this issue. They sent me a replacement phone (Galaxy S5) after 3 days then I sent over to them the defective one. They said that it depends on the manufacturer/service tech if the phone defect is under warranty or not. I'm still waiting for them to check the phone. Or else I'm gonna be charge $175 out of warranty fee!
I'll attach pictures of my previous Galaxy S5. I hope this is not a widespread problem. Share your thoughts too! Thanks!
Just a simple poll...because I'm curious.

No, I haven't submerged it yet, but after 1 week I bought it I ran a 14Km trail running race and rain started mid course. So double moisture: from me and from the rain. I also used it during the race to take some pictures and shoot some videos, like a race vlog
This is exactly the scenario I bought it for and it passed.
