[Q] Have you submerged your Z2? - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just a simple poll...because I'm curious.

Voted No. I don't have warranty on it. So, no.

Same goes simply because i have a gap at the top right of my screen which is leaking light and also big enough to fit a card, i wont vote till i get my replacement Z2, that is if i remember to

No, I haven't submerged it yet, but after 1 week I bought it I ran a 14Km trail running race and rain started mid course. So double moisture: from me and from the rain. I also used it during the race to take some pictures and shoot some videos, like a race vlog
This is exactly the scenario I bought it for and it passed.

Yes I submerged mine in the swimming pool. All went absolute perfect and no problems with the phone.

No, I don't dare! Heard too many horror stories.
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk

I've run it under the tap and made a call from the shower. The shower isn't the best because the water on the screen is like touching it, it opens apps etc. I'll be using it in the pool for sure in summer.
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Free mobile app

Yes, it's designed to be usable under water

Yes, I've also "washed" my phone with running water. Everything is fine. I have a very very slight gap at the top right and bottom left. The gap is barely big enough to fit one sheet of a4 paper.
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Free mobile app

Yes. And was under constant splashing and dunking underwater. Fine and ports were kept dry. Make sure to rinse out the headphone jack though. I posted a while back regarding the headphone not working. Someone said to flush it out with water and I did. Works great

My Z, Z1 and Z2 all went underwater

Your device has gaps?
I have not had the courage to submerge it, but I really want! It was, surely, one of the major reasons why I have bought the Xperia Z and Z2 now!

Yes, many times though i have no warranty. I am from Norway, the mobile phone is from Taiwan

Try wash it with bleach.

Yep, my Z2 had been dunked in a glass of water as a test. Following this, it has been taken into the bath. No ill effects.

Otter Box is normally the case i would go for but with this phone i wanted to show it off!!
Would be nice if Otterbox made some sort of announcement regarding the new Sonys. Can't imagine what state my current phone would be in without one of their cases on it.

My x10 has fallen 4 times(Yes, I'm ashamed, as I should be) but the only damage is to the screen protector and one tiny mark on the backplate. Am I incredibly lucky or was the x10 a much hardier phone than the S? BTW, I'm 6'1" so its got a fair way to fall, and ikea carparks you'd think wouldnt be forgiving

So you think your xperia go is waterproof...

Well it is. But if it fail, surprise.
I had my go taking a bath and not working anymore. Called Sony mobile support. They asked if the port covers were closed, if it was deeper than a meter or for more than 30 minutes.
edit: The 2 ports were close, and the phone was never deeper than 1 feet for less than 5 minutes.
They asked what the phone is doing now. Just a quick sight of sony logo then it power off. The guy told me that it's because water get in.
and ? That it's not warranty, that water damage is not covered under warranty.
I said well you sell a waterproof phone, certified ip67, but if your seal fail, it's not covered ?
They say "the port covers must have been open, otherwise how do you explain water got in ?"
They basically told me i'm on my own and they will not do anything.
Funny but i think it's my last Sony.
Well it is your fault. You should always do double check.

ahahahah, nice one.
I think i have not been clear.
The 2 ports were of course closed.
It was not the first time the phone saw the water, but this time the seal failed for some reason (unknown to me).
But the ports were closed.
All i wanted to get to your attention is, that if the seal fail, you're on your own. They certify the phone is waterproof, but they don't warranty it.
Probs soap water bypasses the seal

I don't see why it would be less waterproof to soap water but anyway... it was clean pool water.
Just know that it's certified waterproof, not warrantied.

Back Glass Screen

Is the back glass also protected by a thin plastic film as the front side is? Thanks
Yup.
Sent from my Z Ultra, using XDA Premium 4
It's just a normal screen protector though, not the glued on affair like the front so is a lot easier to remove.
Sent from my C6833 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The reason I was asking is because I noticed a small hairline scratch on the back glass and I have had the phone for barely a week now. I was really surprised because I have never dropped the phone and made sure it was never placed in a pocket with other sharp objects. First I thought the glass had probably cracked but I couldn't figure out how it could've happened since it's in a protective case as well.
Got the same issue. If I remove the back screen protector, will it void warranty?

It may, or it may not. It's a lottery, and you won't know for sure until you have to get it fixed down the road. But it would be really stupid of Sony to deny you service if the motherboard is fried, but you removed a god damn shatter protector, so "no soup for you!"

Few questions about Z Ultra need quick answers!

Hey everyone, there is an on-going deal in my country to get Z Ultra for couple days more at the price of 400 euro. The design and the hardware of the phone looks amazing literally drooling. But im concerned about the touch screen issues i read here, i currently own a Zopo C2 chinese brand and gives me headaches everytime im about to use just because the touch scr een is awful has phantom touches and shaking issue when you press-and-hold, it even goes crazy when you scroll up and down it scrolls very fast to the top or bottom of the page.
So i read there was few ROM updates about the touchscreen the last couple months and now a new KitKat update is on the way.
1) Does touch screen problems affect every single device( factory fault) or just few?
2) From your experience after those updates is the touchscreen completely fixed?
3) Does the screen break easily since its so big or is as tough as having a 5inch with gorilla glass?
4) I kinda hate the look of Xperia ROMs , it is possible to unlock bootloader/root and install custom recovery/custom ROMs atm? Or is it at least expected to get some ROM developing in the future?
Thanks, i kinda need some answers soon since the deal will go off in 1-2 days and the device originally costs 500-550 euros.
Hi!
1) I had phantom touches on an earlier firmware, but Sony fixed it in a later firmware. I've seen one or two guys here that still has phantom touches though, so i would say that it's pretty much fixed.
2) Yes.
3) I haven't read about anyone that has broken their screens, but it's a 6.4" screen after all, so it might break if it hits the ground.
4) Yes, you can unlock the bootloader, install Recovery and flash custom ROMs. As you might have picked up yesterday, Sony released the Z Ultra Google Play Edition. This will allow us to use the stock Kit Kat build from that one and "convert" our Ultras to Google Play Edition devices
I dropped mine on to concrete without any protection more then screen protector front and back. It landed on a corner and peeled off the silver but not a single scratch or crack on both sides.

Does your Xperia Z Ultra creek?

Hey guys
I wanted to test the build quality of my phone so I took it out of the case. Amd grabbed it from both sides and slightly flexed it
It makes a bit of a creeking noise to which concerns me a little, could this be a fault and result in the waterprofness not working?
Let me know if it happens when if you flex yours, the sound seems to come from the lower right hand corner

I'm not talking about bending. If you put some stress on something for a period of time, it'll start to weaken and then probably creek. I don't know how old you are, but i remember when i had the Nokia 3210/3310/3410 etc. which had plastic back covers, and they would start to creek like hell after i'd removed the covers a lot.
If your thigh bumps and puts stress on the frame of the Ultra for some time (walking and sitting a lot with it in your front pocket, for example), it'll start to creek. That, i can tell you.
