[Q] How to backup multi-user application with Titanium - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I'm facing a problem I couldn't find a solution to:
Android 4.2 introduced multi user feature, which is very useful for tablets.
My problem is how to back the users applications with Titanium. It works ok for the main user, but fails on restoring for the secondary user. Some strange things happen during restore:
1. Titanium didn't extract apps list for the secondary user, even though I directed Titanium to the right backup locations and saw the files there.
2. When I restored on the second user from the first user backup directory, the app was installed on the two users accounts, then I got wrong UID warning on every boot. I hade to wipe data to get rid of that...
To recap: right now I can only backup and restore apps for the main user account. I will appreciate any help on how to do it for the secondary account as well.
Thanks!

Thank you.
Is there another solution or workaround for this issue?

[Q] WTF Titanium Backup

So I rooted my Atrix some time ago, and installed TB. Made a backup 2/23.
Motoblur ****ed up (no surprise) and I was directed by customer support to do a factory wipe yesterday. I didn't have a more recent backup than 2/23, so I reinstalled to that and then re did everything I'd done since then (dl apps, changes settings, etc).
So today I ran TB again ... I chose "Batch -> Backup all user apps + system data". I didn't think this would do anything other than create backups.
However, now my Motoblur is ****ed up again!
My home screens are all screwed up, my widgets are all mis-sized (1x4's are 1x1??), my contacts are screwed up, etc etc.
Has anyone else had this problem with TB? I'm running the free version ... I didn't think that creating (not restoring) a backup would screw up my phone ...
I know the immediate response would be to blame motorolla but I think that this is a TB issue.
Thanks.

Did you do a backup of the system and user apps? If so this is probably your issue. I've read to just do user apps and not system included with that. If you had an issue in the system files and you back that up and restore that it will replace the fixed files with the older "broken" files.
I'd suggest do a batch backup of apps and reflash again and then restore the app data.

+1, ive never had good results with restoring the system stuff... it will overwrite weird stuff in the system and you're always much better off just restoring the apps. PIA to have to reconfigure the home screen, accounts, etc... but it doesnt take too much work and things will run _much_ smoother...

[Q] Backup/Restore the "Accounts & Sync" settings

Hi,
I'm looking for an app that backs up the "Accounts & Sync" settings for all my accounts, before flashing a new rom. I tried "MyBackup" from the market and it backed up my Sensation quite nicely, but it doesn't restore the accounts and setting up everything again was a pain.
Does anyone know of an app that does a backup that includes a backup of the "Accounts & Sync" settings?
Thanks!
Hi!
you have many choices!
1- Nandroid backup.
you can do a Nandroid backup by the recovery.
Be careful you must have more than 1Go free space on your sd card.
So install recovery.
Then reboot on recovery mode.
GO on backup/restore
The phone save all your phone.
then you can restored it. or just datas if you want.
2- Save By titanium Backup
This is an app which is created to save all your datas and restore it after.
With full version you can be faster and restore all apps at the same time.
With free it's harder... one by one :s
Don't forget thanks button
Do you need more infos?
I have a follow-up question to this. Several, actually:
* Where can I find nandroid? googling finds me something that is several years old.
* Titanium backup, while it contains a section for "backup/restore all system data" first doesn't actually contain any entries, and second is actually much more than we want.
What we're looking for, if I understand OP correctly, is something that ONLY backs up "Accounts & Sync". This is by far the most annoying thing about wiping and reflashing roms, and is also unlikely to be the cause of errors (at least for reflashing the same rom). Thus, is there an application, or a mode in an application or something, that lets us back up *only* the "Accounts & Sync" settings?
NANDROID refers to the back up process from within your recovery program I.E Clockwork, 4EXT Ect... It will be listed as "Backup" in those programs when you are in recovery mode.
You can just backup the "Accounts and Sync Settings" from within titanium, or you can use ROMToolbox which is what i use, both are pretty much the same program but ROMToolbox does alot more than just backups. You will find the "Accounts and Sync Settings" under the "System" tab from within either program.
Once you have backed up the "Accounts and Sync Settings" it would simply be a case of reinstalling either titanium or toolbox and restoring the afore mentioned .apk once you have flashed your new ROM.

Regarding the NANDROID, ok, that's good to know, thanks =)
Regarding backing up the settings, I can't seem to find anything like that in titanium backup or in (the screenshots for) ROMToolbox (I assume this is what you are referring to: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.liteupmobile.secretcodes)
Do I need a pro version or something for this to be available?
No the one i was referring to is made by JRummy Here
The section you will be looking for once installed is "App Manager" once in that or any other program that romtoolbox offers you slide left to switch tabs
EDIT: Ah just installed titanium there to have a look and that displays everything under the same menu (sorry i thought it was similar to toolbox) and it will be highlighted red to indicate it is a system Application / File..
Since we last spoke, I also found it in TitaniumBackup, actually. All I to do was dig a bit =)
I haven't tried restoring it, though. I also don't know where the data actually ended up. It doesn't seem to be in /sdcard/TitaniumBackup like my backed up apps... Any idea?
Em it will be there, on your sdcard / titanium backup folder and there will be in three separate files something like.
The three file names mentioned below contain all the info from your "Accounts & Sync Settings"
com.android.providers.subscribedfeeds-20120418-113609.properties
com.android.providers.subscribedfeeds-20120418-113609.tar.gz
com.android.providers.subscribedfeeds-d6ff2fe87c9c58dd29b2258d83008617.apk.gz
The number and letter strings may be different on your device / sdcard, but those are the files you will be looking for.
I found a bunch of those for the apps I've backed up, but not the settings. I'll look further when I get home.
I simply showed the "system" apps, and some of them showed up as green. Those were the ones I backed up, because they seemed to have reasonable names, like "Accounts" and "SMS/MMS", etc. The red colored ones seemed, indeed, to be system apps, the apps themselves.
I think I found them. It looks like they have names like this:
com.keramidas.virtual.ACCOUNTS-20120417-153858.properties
com.keramidas.virtual.APP_WIDGETS-20120417-153918.properties
com.keramidas.virtual.WIFI_AP_LIST-20120417-154139.properties
Be careful when restoring system data to rooms. This can and has been proven to cause issues as with each update there are changes to where and how things are saved. It is advised by just about every developer to never restore system data and won't except any bug reports if you do restore system data of any kind.

While that is true restoring accounts and sync settings between roms (especially if its not a version jump for example 2.2>>2.3) it won't cause any (critical) errors.

That all depends on how the dev setup the rom. Like my personal roms. Restoring any system data from any other rom even from the same OS version will boot loop you and require a reflash.
How do you backup and restore Settings/Accounts?
I tried restoring the Google App but I don't think the configured google accounts are stored in it. How would I be able to restore all of the accounts configured in settings/accounts?

Yes, I would be interested in this as well. I have many accounts I've configured on my Note 10.1 2014, but after upgrading to 5.1.1, I want to know if I could get all the accounts I had configured previously, somehow configure automatically to my Note, instead of adding them individually and manually.
thanks
Simple you can't. Well you can but it takes root and causes instability
No one App can happen us to backup all the Google accounts settings? I mean with a rooted phone.
Thanks

HOX to HOX+ Migration Question

Hi All,
Quick question - on my current HOX I've saved all my apps plus user settings. I copied the Titanium Backup folder contents to my PC. Can I simply copy from my PC to my new HOX+ and then run Titanium restore? I assume I can't copy over user system settings but would like to keep all my app settings.
One more question - do I need to run AT&T setup to enable my phone?
Thanks!
when i moved my TB from the one v to the X+ it worked fine

That's exactly what I did (HOX->PC->HOX+ Titanium Restore). However, I didn't restore the data. The major item that has user data is email, and I've never found that restores properly. So I just re-synched everything. I guess if you have game saves, then just restore the games with user data. I would be careful with any system type apps, in restoring the data, since you are also over-writing or duplicating the system app itself.
Your phone should run fine without running the AT&T setup (what exactly is that anyway? I don't seem to remember having that pop up on my phone...). And yes, as others have said, you should be pretty safe restoring apps and data except for system apps. If you really want to, I suppose you can try restoring just the data for system apps, and if you start to have problems you can Clear Data for the problematic apps.

restore data on android 4.2.2 multi user

Dear all,
I'm a bit puzzled.
I'm having my Tab 10.1 running CM10.1 with native Android 4.2.2 multi user support.
I have two users.
Now I want to backup all user apps and data of both users in order to flash an AOKP based ROM.
With Titanium I didn't find a proper solution.
When backing up both accounts it works, but restoring makes problems. When having both users created then after restoring apps and data for the primary user all apps also show up for the secondary user.
When only creating the second user after the restore I face the opposite problem after restoring the apps for the secondary user, as all the apps then also show up for the primary one. It seems TB is not able to somehow manage correctly the managment of user apps releated to the native multi user support.
Also Carbon/Helium backup doesn't work as it only runs in the profile of the primary user but not in the one of the secondary user.
A NANDROID also doesn't help, as then in the data partition still all the data related to my old (CM10.1) rom are stored which may lead to incompabilities with the new (AOKP) rom.
So what is the way to backup and restore user apps and data of both primary and secondary user as currently installed?
Thanks for your help

Late response, but I dump this post. I ran into the same problem, but I'm non-rooted. I have Carbon but I would like to backup game data from a secondary user account. Carbon only shows apps on the primary account.
Have you came up with a solution to your problem? Please share because I want a solution as well.
Thanks,

No, not yet

Replacing Titanium Backup with Helium

I'm a long time user of Titanium Backup as it has allowed me to backup and restore my app data when I need to do a factory reset or when I switch phones. This is the main reason why the first thing I do with the phone is to enable root access. However, I've just come across Helium (yeah bit slow off the mark on that one) which seems to allow doing this job without root access. However, everything I read seems to imply that it only works for user installed apps.
Does anyone know if this works for system installed apps that are part of the ROM as well?
TIA
