A unique problem - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

it all started when i installed a faulty launcher
my phone's in a boot loop
when i try to slide the key into the lock on the lockscreen, it reboots.
otherwise touch is working fine (emergency call, status bar etc)
but since i can't open the lock, i can't access the home screen and apps and stuff..
obviously i tried recovery, but it doesnt have a factory reset option (strange). the recovery mode only has some phone tests and calibrates
the other hard key combination opens up some black screen with "fastboot mode" written. and that's it.
my phone is gingerbread 2.3.5, unrooted. the company is a less popular and cheap one but it's not china.
long story short, i cant get outta boot loop coz recovery doesnt have factory reset option
plz help!

thanks
i did as you said. but when i erased everything and booted the phone. it's stuck on the manufacturer's logo. it doesnt even reach lock screen now.
fastboot commands are working. i flashed a new recovery, but its not accessing. what should i do?

In recovery, try to wipe cache and dalvik cache. If still, then you need to flash stock ROM

That is because when you ran those commands you wiped the rom on your phone completely so now when it tries to boot it has nothing to boot into. Please give the name of the phone so we can help you more.

**Press the thanks button if I have helped you.

Erasing the user data and cache was good, but erasing boot erases your kernel, just find the one that came with your ROM and as long as its in .img format use fastboot to flash it and all should work great

yo, the prob is, it's a recent phone, but from qmobile
it's qmobile bolt a2 lite. i cant find the stock rom (it was released in 3 july 2013, i believe)
so, can't i install some other ROM that all gingerbread phones support? it has 1 ghz processor, 256 mb ram, and 200 mb internal storage
thanks

i have a 2gb micro sd card as well

Then you have an issue, right now it sounds as you have no kernel maybe if your lucky the manufacture will respond to a request to release the kernel source or have a copy of factory firmware you can download.
Otherwise try to find someone with the same phone and see if they can get you a copy of the kernel
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium

since i can't find the exact stock ROM for this lesser known brand, isn't there some universal gingerbread 2.3.5 stock rom? the manufactureres obviously use a modified version of google's stock gingerbread 2.3.5

It won't work, you can't just flash some generic aosp ROM to your phone, if it were that easy every phone would have tons of ROMs
You need a device tree that contains all the proprietary drivers etc to build from source and just flashing a random kernel or ROM won't do you any good (possibly make things worse)
You need to contact the maker of your phone and request this or find someone who can get you a ROM dump

If your on 2.3.4 that's your issue.those kernels won't work for it.pull battery.hold power and volume down go into recovery when battery is put back in..

I did that but when i choose recovery it boots to the htc logo and then keeps rebooting ...
no one knows what i can do ? :/ is there a way to reset the phone without recovery ?
You pulled the battery? Cause if you don't and fastboot is on.its would do that.
sent from my badass EVO 3D running Kaos Hybrid 4.20 using tapatalk
yes i did it just as you said ...
If you still can't get into recovery or the phone continuously bootloops after the battery pull, just run the latest RUU.
What is a RUU and how do i run it ? Do you have a link ? Thanks for the replies.
Have you taken the latest OTA, or have you ran revolutionary on your phone?
yes i have revolutionary on the phone
Go here, download the .exe with the 1.13.651.7, and run it as admin.
thanks, Is it a problem if i'm not on sprint? cause i'm in france and got the gsm version.
Yes, that would be a problem...try this thread and see if your version is listed.
i guess i'll try the "europe" one... if i dont risk to brick my phone by doing so ...
Tried and didn't work wasn't the good one... I hope i will find the good one soon i'll bookmark your link hoping that my version will be upped...
Thank you for your help.
Did you solve the problem?
Hi I just have the same problems like you ... I am in France, and after installing a new kernel, the phone is an a restarting loop.
I can go to the recovery mode (revolutionary) , I have tried to install different kernel and different ROM, but it alwas failed...
Thanks
MikRunny problems
I have a similar problem.
I tried installing MikRunny, (I flashed the boot.img multiple times, and did a full wipe, multiple times), but I keep getting a bootloop.
I fastbooted the boot.img, and I replaced the boot.img in the kernel map in MikRunny.zip.
My phone is (according to recovery) S-OFF, Revolutionary, 1.49 HBOOT, GSM.
That was the problem, the boot.img was not for GSM, but for CDMA.
But yet, I replaced it, and it still doesn't work...

Search Google, Rootzwiki, and XDA for an SD bootable CWM or TWRP recovery image for the phone. Use all terms for the Evo 3D (shooter, 3vo, E3D, and even the HTC model number, which is PG86100). Write it to a microSD with dd in Linux or Win32DiskImager in Windows. After it's done writing, just drop your zips onto the card as you normally would and place it back into the phone. Proceed to recovery as you normally would. Wipe system, data, cache, dalvik cache, and battery stats. Now flash your ROM zip and follow it with your GAPPS zip. Reboot system and pray for the best. If you need any more assistance or help, feel free to PM me. Hope this helps, I know how bricking a phone feels. Just remember that there's no such thing as a permanent brick, unless you hit it with a real brick .

Hey i ran into this problem yesterday flashing this Kernel...i used the flash gui app...what happened was it booted after it flashed....and it stuck in bootloop...i tried reflashing it the regular way just through cwm and it wasnt doing anything...so i did a google search on how to flash kernels on hboot 1.5 this is what i got...http://youtu.be/HclYpo0ZR3s that youtube video shows how to flash the kernel....THE WAY I KNEW HOW TO....but he says at the end there is a backup way to flash kernels..he says its longer but it also works just as good he says that you fastboot flash it via command prompt...so this gave me an idea...he says open up command prompt and prompt it to the folder you have used to unlock the device...unzip the boot.img file from the kernel your using in command prompt youd type fastboot flash boot boot.img....THIS NEXT PART I THOUGHT OF MYSELF. i removed the boot.img from the rom i was using and flashed that first AND FLASHED THE EXACT ROM I REMOVED THE BOOT.IMG FROM TO GET IT ROOTED. Not only did i solve my original kenel problem where my radios were jacked up BUT, i also got this kernel to work, and my synergy rom to work with the kernel, everything works and i was unbricked...I HOPE ANYBODY WHO RUNS INTO THIS PROBLEM DOES THIS AND THEY ARE OK.

[Q] please help, stuck in bootloop w/o acces to recovery

I had an issue kinda similar like this and ended up having to flash the RUU through the bootloader. It is the stock firmware 605.19, and I had to reroot. It's a pain I know but it works

I to had to this at one point and it does work. I would first try to flash cwm in fastboot though. Sometimes that works.

My friend's phone tried to pull an OTA while he had CWM recovery installed, and it started boot looping. Had to download the stock recovery, name is PG05IMG.zip in the root of the SDCard, and force the phone to boot to the bootloader and install it. Once it did, the phone started up, rebooted itself, and installed the OTA fine. Sounds like yours may be trying to do something similar?
If so rooted phones need caches cleared for the ota to work.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
From my understanding, Rooted can still take OTA, but you have to have stock recovery to do it (as I witnessed earlier). You will lose root, and will have to re-flash recovery to TWRP, CWMR, or whatever your normal choice is, and then re-apply the su.zip, but otherwise easy as pie.

Hello, first of all I would like to thank everyone who has posted in this thread to try and help out. I just started having a very similar problem- I'm rooted and running stock, but apparently my phone accepted an OTA and I'm stuck in a bootloop as well.
I got into CWM recovery and downloaded the stock recovery PG05IMG.zip, but it won't install. It just aborts every time I try to install it. I'm a noob at this stuff and not very good at dealing with these sorts of things and I've been having a panic attack for the past hour, so if anyone could help me as soon as possible I would really appreciate it.
I'm really scared of making things worse than they already are. I just want a working phone.

pull battery, wait a minute, turn on phone
when in bootloader screen,
volume down, select reboot
back to white screen, select recovery ( i had to do this twice)
hold volume up and power when black screen appears
choose the bottom option (wipe cache i believe)
choose reboot
phone should be good aftter this
( idont own a thunderbolt, but i had to fix this for a nother phone, called tech support and this worked)
hope this helps - hopefully saves someone from ruu'ing and wiping their phone

The zip won't work in CWM because it's not designed for use with CWM. It's designed for use in Fastboot. Should be on the root of your sd card. From off, if I'm correct (like this with other HTC devices), hold volume down and power to boot into fastboot. This will allow it to flash the stock recovery.

Need help!! I777 soft bricked/hard bricked/ mmc corrupt? Won't boot!!

This is the situation and what ive tried to fix it. I was on cm9 and wanted to try jellybam so I flashed using cwm . It was successful but wouldn't boot so I tried to reinstall the rom still no luck so I tried going back to cm9 and it got stuck on the s2 logo screen ! I tried odin to flash a stock rom and it was successful but still stuck on the logo screen. Ive tried gb and ics ive tried to flash with and without bootloaders ive tried reparation but that only fails unless I use the pit file but still didn't fix it. If I flash the stock rooted ics rom and then flash cwm zip i can wipe system then flash cm9/10 but that only gets me to the cm animation . It will sit there till the end of time but wont boot! In cwm If I check the log I get this error I:can't partition unsafe device:/dev/block/mmcb1k1p1. It wont factory reset on stock or cwm it only freezes then bootloops. I hope this is enough info please help me! I love my s2 and even tho I have my s3 I miss my s2

Sorry if this sounds rude but have you googled that error?
Sent from my GS4 running CM11 Kandy Kane
Lol no that's not rude. I would ask the same question. ..I did and from what I've gathered its a corrupt sd card or part of the emmc brick bug. There are patched kernels to fix the same issue on the note but nothing for i777. All it says is factory reset and flash a new rom . Ive done that but still no boot. Roms flash fine and I can get into download mode and recovery but It wont factory reset or boot. Stock recovery says your ui is not prepared please factory reset and a bunch of can't mount data errors but it won't factory reset it just freezes then trys to reboot but gets stuck on the s2 logo then back to recovery. Here is the kicker tho. If I install a duel booting kernel I can install a second rom that boots but primary won't. ...I tried swapping primary and secondary roms but it froze....im just lost on this one and out of tricks
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I'm not sure what partition that is. You've go a typo in it, but if the last three letters are correct "1p1", I don't remember seeing that as one of the system partitions. The kernel is in "mmcblk0p5" for instance. It should be "mmcblk1p1" I guess.
If you suspect memory damage to that partition, you can confirm that by trying to pull the data from that memory block with adb or terminal using the following command:
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk1p1 of=/sdcard/testBLK
If the memory is damaged, you will get an error message. If the memory block is good, you will get no error message. I guess you could also look into "testBLK" to see what is in there, but of course it will be binary data most likely.
That's the error I got 1p1. Abd is something I haven't done yet. I've used terminal emulator back in the days of my cliq dext but im sure I can handle it...im pretty sure it is corrupt but if I do the test and confirm this how do I fix it? Is it just a matter of deleting or do I have to rewrite the path? Im confused on this
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Actually, this was bad advice. Since your phone is bootlooping, you can't use terminal, doh! If you can get into recovery, you might be able to use adb. Or you could use Red_81's adb portable. You could also try his adb batch file from download mode to see if you can boot it into recovery mode. I guess it will take a little study if you have no experience with it.
Oh, and if the memory is bad, its bad. This is just a way to find out, maybe.
So what your saying is it's dead?!!!
Noooooooo! Lol im looking into maybe getting another one or shipping this one to Samsung to have a new motherboard put in . Just trying to see if there is any hope of bringing her back to life...

Not saying that unless you verify for sure that the memory is bad. The only time I've actually heard of eMMC damage, and seen it verified, was in conjunction with the bad stock kernel on 4.0.4. There was also another case where a member sent his phone to Josh at Mobile Tech Videos for Jtag repair, and it was sent back unrepairable due to memory damage. I can't remember for sure, but I think that was due to the 4.0.4 stock kernel too.
You might talk to Josh at Mobile Tech Videos by phone to see what he thinks, before you send it to Samsung.
I tried contacting josh and couldn't reach anyone. I left a message and sent and email but haven't heard back. I tried using adb portable and as I did that I think that I didn't make the phone issues clear. I can get into recovery mode fine I can also get into download mode fine . I have run into something similar, my wife has the s2... I have the s3....
this is the steps I run to get the s2 working after it gets stuck...
1 - installed stock rom I777UCKH7 OCD Root No BL = self executable from windows.... brings you to stock with root..
forget this one, this is when I was first rooting... 2 - DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su
3 - MobileODINLite-v3.57
4 - MobileODIN_FlashKernel_I777-v1.0
5 - flash kernal Siyah-v2.6.14-att.tar = installs recovery clockwork mod
6 - install any rom....
Download mode on S2 is volume up and down and power button....
I can't get it to boot up so I can't use mobile odin. I've tried one click and also tried every stock tar I could find . I even tried to reinstall the bootloaders. They all install successful but it wont boot past the s2 logo screen. Im not a noob , I've flashed hundreds of times. I've fixed a few bricks in my day but this has me stumped. ...if you install the stock rom there isn't any reason why it shouldn't boot. But it is just stuck. Nothing has worked. I think the only thing that may work is the re write the memory but im not that patient to do that lol

[Q] Did I brick my Galaxy Vibrant?

I have a T-Mobile Galaxy Vibrant that was running Android 2.1. I rooted the phone (successfully), and installed Slim Bean 4.2.2 plus Google apps. Everything was going smoothly and I was reinstalling apps and data when I noticed that I had no network phone connection. Slim Beam did not seem to recognize the sim, and I came up empty searching for networks. I removed the sim and put it in another phone, and everything was fine.
I decided to restore the previous android 2.1 (which I had backed up) using ClockWorkMod Recovery. I did restore, then reboot. Now the only thing I get is the initial screen ... Vibrant and Samsung in bold white letters. I have tried repeatedly to launch CWM Recovery, without success.
Is it time for a new phone?
Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions
Thanks for the suggestions, but my phone is somewhat "challenged." I got it for free (that's the good news). The previous owner gave it to me after the power port/usb connector got damaged (that's the bad news). As I understand it, all the suggestions require a usb connection ... something I've been able to live without for the last year. Maybe I should give it a shot and get the usb port repaired, or maybe it would be cheaper/smarter to go shopping. I'm going to need time to think about that.
Thanks again to both of you.

If there's any way you can get into cwm mode then you can first add the zip file of the custom rom from your pc to your sd card via a card reader and then try to flash a new rom. I think the problem you are getting at the moment is because you did not format dalvik cache and some other things before flashing

I keep trying to launch CWM Recovery, but no such luck. The initial screen with Samsung and Vibrant appears, then nothing. I have to pull the battery to turn the phone off. I did wipe the dalvik cache before installing Slim Bean, but not before the reboot. Thanks for following up, but I've got a bad feeling about this.

The last resort is probably the samsung service center. They'll repair it for a hefty price but that'll be less than the price of a whole new phone..... sorry about your loss

Need help with bricked Moto E

Hello,
I am new to this Moto E. It's actually a friend's phone and he though that since I have experience when it comes to LG G2 and S II Skyrocket SGH-i727, he decided to ask me to help him unbrick his device.
It's not actually bricked per se. It's actually stuck at the boot. It comes up to optimize the apps and start the android but it never ends. It's always stuck at Starting Android. I was able to get into TWRP recovery but I can't mount the USB. No matter the mode I place it, the usb is never detected. I can't find another way around to fix it. I was thinking about a clean factory reset from TWRP but I'd still like to get around with something.
Since USB is not working, can't get flash stock ROM to downgrade from lollipop 5.1.1 to 4.4.4 (that's pretty much what he wants, once the device is fixed).

Have you tried wiping cache and dalvik cache?
Sent from my Moto E using XDA Free mobile app
No, but he just told me he previously wiped pretty much everything through TWRP... I'll try it when I get to my pc and report back with results.

U need data? if yes there is no way around it, if data not needed, flashing fastboot firmware via Fastboot or flashable zip of Stock ROM or any Custum ROMs via TWRP will boot up the phone, since phone is booting to twrp and bootloader, it can't be said bricked at all, the phone is in safe state, we can do anything if phone boots up to recovery,
