[q] battery problem - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello guys i have a big problem with my battery and from what I've noticed(not completely sure) it does that when i remove the phone is from the plug.today for example i fully charged it, and when i removed it something probably crashed, the battery was immediately overheated and after half an hour it fell at 60%.i use omega rom v46 and the launcher i use is next launcher( i just refer i don't know if it has anything to do with that).has anyone face this problem with the specific rom and if there is a solution besides going to an older or newer rom. thank you in advance

Lots of battery threads here explain the use of apps like wakelock detecter, gsam battery monitor and better battery stats. You'll need to find out what's happening

[Q] 60 percent idle battery usage / 15 hours

I am having huge issues with my battery on my galaxy s2. It drains really fast, 60% over the last 15 hours this night when the phone has been idle. This has been an issue for about a week now; I cannot seem to find a solution? I have tried various roms, wiping and doing a clean install, but the problem continues. Currently using lightening rom 3,2.
Do anyone know what can be causing this battery drain? Is the battery defective??
What apps do you have installed?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
That is quite a drain I can see there. The drain might be caused by having too many widgets or having too many applications open. If you plan to put it on standby, do close those apps that are not important to you.
Have you tried rebooting?
I have a stock lightening rom 3,2. no apps installed, except titanium backup pro and opera mobile. I have frozen all kinds of stuff in titanium to try find the cultprit, but without success. As you see, no apps except andoid OS is running. Same drain on villainrom, lightening. Don't know what can be causing the error. Is there some way to check if the phone or the battery it self is to blame?
Try with screen on - normally I think that should run for 6 hours or so. Using that as a reference, you can check to see if the energy stored in the battery is normal. It doesn't look like your OS is staying overly active to me.
Hi bjorninge,
Every time after you flash a new ROM you should calibrate your battery.
Get the app "battery calibration" from the market and follow instructions and please report back whether you can achieve better performance.
Cheers,

I have a similar issue, as was the same with my captivate. I have stock ROM on my GS2 though, the way I got it out of the box pretty much. Android OS takes up most of the battery usage. I don't know what it is. Widgets updating constantly? The constant syncing from Gmail/push email?
Well that's surprising! Awake and Screen On bar is quite low and totally synchronized, yet 60% drain, now I gotta say it's weird.

Tried calibrating the battery, but it doesn't seem to help too much

Unfortunately, I have the same issue as you've described above. I am running on stock KE2 kernel and the battery drain is quite a lot. The 'Android OS' is always consuming a lot of processor time on standby mode.
This needs to be fixed A.S.A.P.!
Download and install the app BetterBatteryStats from Android section, it is a very useful app which will show what Awaking the device from deep sleep and processes too. For me, it was the damn Latitude stuff going on background and wasn't letting the device to go to deep sleep.
Regards.

Thanks for the tip. I have downloaded the app now. what spesifically should I look for?
You just look under 'Wakelocks' and you will know what apps are causing the Awake, then you could take further steps.
Regards.
Would be great if you could look at the screenshot and tell me if something is wrong. Also, after the battery calibration, I've "only" lost 26% the last 7 hours mostly idling. I don't see anything abnormal in the screenshot I provided :/
Well nothing is wrong imo as everything is very low. You should check those which are using more than 10 mins Wakelock, some seconds doesn't matter actually. And you can post any query further to the original thread of this app, here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
Regards.
OK, So I'm now back to 12% battery usage (from 100% to 88%) with 17 hours and 30 mins on battery, which IMO is normal.
What did I do? Well, I removed the battery and put the rest of the phone into the stove for an hour on 50-60 degreed celsius. My 98% android OS usage is gone and the battery works as normal .I also had problems with the phone constantly going into "car mode" which is now gone.
I got some tips around the internet that my issues were all related to moisture on the inside of the phone.

[Q] Resurrection Remix 1.9.1 battery drain

so as im a new user and i can't post in half of the forum, but i've still got this urgent question/ point to ask, here's my question:
i recently moved on the new 1.9.1 ressurection remix rom from the 1.3, and aswell changed my kernel to siyah, now lately my battery drains preety quick (yes i did burn it down to 0% and charged it over to 100% few times), but here's the thing, when once i had issues with screen burning 30%-45% of my battery, now it's lying low on 10%-20% while the real issue now is the "Android OS" which goes as high as 60%-70% of my battery, i've been trying to calibrate the battery and reset battery stats and discharge and recharge couple of times, but this just keeps going on... any way to solve this?

OK! I've read your situation. This is the only thing that I can recommend. Try installing a Gingerbread rom and see if the issue persists. If it does then some of your application could be the culprit behind the battery draining issue. But again, thats just a guess...And if it is one of your applications that is causing the drain then you should install bettebatterystats from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
Then charge your battery to 100% and try a new calibration method, maybe you haven't heard of it. But if you charge till 100% then take out the battery for exactly 3 minutes and put it back in and power up your phone and use your phone normally as you do and then at 20% or lower go and check betterbatterystats and see what is causing the most of the battery drain.
Have a great day and good luck with the battery drain, hope this helps!!
Did you check the ROM FAQ about battery draining?
Please check it out. There is also an example of making some changes using extweaks which comes installed by default with ICS Resurrection 1.9.1.
Here is the link to FAQ.

i did read about the new method today, but havent had the chance to try it yet.
im not sure if it's a certain application that causes it, but in the battery stats it points out "Android OS", i've seen many galaxy nexus users complain about the same problem, even with stock kernel/roms, and galaxy S2 users that moved from gingerbread to ICS. it's logical that ICS will take more battery because of the control over multiple cpus and all this kind of stuff but im not sure how much it is about that "Android OS".
anyway ill try to have this battery calibration new method once my battery will drain out, and im probably not going to go down to gingerbread again because i already know its not gonna persist because i remmember how my phone behaved on GB and that those 2 systems work completely different and i want to solve the drain per ICS and not solve the issue by downgrading back down to gingerbread.
thank you for your time and help anyway

I noticed that my phone does that when I am in a weak service area. The radios use a lot of juice trying to get/keep a signal. You could try Better Battery Stats or Bad Ass Battery Monitor to see in more detail what is using your battery.

you can also try to calibrate your battery with serval apps! type in play store : battery calibration ! they all do the same job and preaty good i must say..
i recommend you to try : Battery Calibration free . thats for rooted users and does great job!
Alright Thanks
I sorta realised it was due to my connection as my school has a really bad reception and thats where teh majority ofteh drain occurred will download that app
My personal experience!!!!! Flame me not!!!!!!
Ok here goes:
I don't use any battery calibration apps or system tuner or task killer any more. I test my battery like I test my gas mileage: ALL THE FRIGGIN' TIME!
I've found I get better battery life without these extra apps. However, I also completely strip all ROM's I use of completely unnecessary apps and their respective widgets (HTC News, HTC News and Weather, Jetset Printer, Stocks, Twitter, Picasa, Google +, etc.)
Now, the only app I would recommend and have heard from multiple sources and threads is Better Battery Stats. It has a nominal fee, however, is worth it. I will show you what is draining your battery.
You could also have wake lock problems. Who knows? Get some diagnostic info to post to better help those trying to help you. Help me, to help you! LOL!

Flame on! Just kidding. I also have never calibrated my battery as it is useless according to the Android engineers at Google.
The reason I also recommend Bad Ass Battery Monitor is because it is a little more user friendly.
Also, there is an xda version of Better Battery Stats that is available in these forums for free, although the Market version is cheap and supports the dev.

i have some problem, when my screen active, i put it to my pocket, then my body touch the screen and do random process abaout 45minutes.. done with 40% battery gone x_X.. i think u must tell us how long u use app
You can use battery calibration. you can find it in the android market
Have you tried reset battery stats then full charge, use it for a couple of minutes then full charge again? Don't know why it works but I have used this method on a couple of Roms and it seems to help
try clearing your battery stats full charge ur battery n then let it discharge fully then full charge once more n recalibrate it..should work
The main factor for preventing battery drains is to have a good modem that doesn't overheats the phone, using a ROM with deep sleep and a battery friendly kennel like Siyah or Fluxxi. Try to get those three things fixed and you should not have any more battery drains
Turn auto brightness off also make sure none of your apps are using your GPS all the time. I think the problem may be app related I would roll to a stock kernel and only use apps that are must need and see if that helps. Also your battery could be shot . How old is it ?

[Q] cm 10.2 android 4.3 battery issue

Hi,
I have a weird battery issue. You can check attached screenshot.
My battery percentage suddenly decreases for example %45 to % 12. Then as soon as I plug in charger it comes for example %12 to %26. Completely unstable battery stats. Sometimes after charging %100 it doesn't decrease for a while. then I reboot phone and it suddenly decreases to %89 or something like that.
2 or 3 times a day device shuts off by itself.
I have cm 10.2 android 4.3 rom and I come from omega v46 android 4.2. (I had same issue on omega). I always perform full wipe before installing a new rom.
I tried factory reset, BBS, remove sd card, reinsert sim card etc.. but I could'nt solve the issue.
Finally I bought another battery but same issue still goes on.Maybe it's about an apk like CPU Adjuster which I previously installed on Omega rom.
Can anybody help?
I am having same battery issues, my battery discharges very fast when the data network is on, my phone doesn't last 5 hours when the data service is on.
PLEASE HELP

I think I was misunderstood. My problem is not battery drain. It's about unstable battery monitoring and device shutting off by itself. As seen on attached picture.
I thing the system app which is supposed to monitor my battery level and percentage is not working properly.

cm roms always have the issue of faster battery draining unlike stock ones. you say that you use better battery stats. then post the log here and someone could help you. (i got good battery by doing this: flashed boeffla kernel beta and put the governor to zzmove> yank extreme battery and installed easy battery saver and set to super power saving mode. the battery % didn't go down by at least 1% in my 7 hours of sleep and i was just amazed!) may/may not work for you.
:good:
I tried 3 different battery calibration APK, also tried "wipe battery stats" from recovery. None worked for me. Thank you.

Thanks for advices but I'm OK with my battery life. In my cm rom, battery life is better than stock ones. By the way Easy battery saver is really amazing, really saves battery. I used that before but it turns off everything in extreme mod, and I can't get what's up messages or my push mails etc. Anyway, as I said before my problem is not battery drain.
I installed "battery repair (doctor boost)" APK from market. It's a paid one. It seems to solve my problem. Everything looks ok since last night. If not, I will report again tomorrow.

Hi. I searched many forums, read hundreds of posts but still couldn't solve the problem (1st post) . I see many people suffering from same problem but no one has found an answer.
I'm sure that it's about one of zip files which I have flashed in my previous roms and I don't remember.
I'm sure because I had same issue in my previous omega v46 android 4.2 rom. Although I wiped everything and flashed cm 10.2 android 4.3 rom, the problem goes on. Even I bought a new battery but still the same problem. What causes this problem? It's really weird.

[Q] Serious battery drain and weird behavoir (Neatrom)

Hello, xda.
[i9100, Team Win Recovery Project v2.7.0.0, any recommendations for different kernel? and what show i do in order to change kernel?]
using a great guide, I installed neatrom AOSP 4.4.2 in my galaxy s2,
everything is great and seem very stable, BUT:
the battery drains really fast. also sometimes when rebooting i loose about 40%.
once the battery wasnt charged and after rebooting (and loosing 40%)
the battery raised from 22% to 23%.
while charging in my car today and using waze, the batter dropped... (WHILE CHARGING..)
the battery is really old (1.5YR) but its not the problem, the phone looses a lot of battery while idle.
any help?
(I wanted to buy BBS but its simple for me to buy online right now during credit card issues..)
Thanks in advnace!
:good:
EDIT:
Please tell me there is a way to change my username xD
Aosp roms use battery like is nothing. Get BBS for battery stats and what's draining you're battery so quick. Sudden battery level drop means bad battery. Will need replacing soon. Ask a mod to change names. Most will help you with this.
You definately have the right idea. There is a free version of BBS here on xda. Just search BBS thread. And don't forget to enable root feature in settings...

all Kitkat roms have a battery drain ..
so if u want the best battery life u should go back to 4.1.2 .. like WizzedKat Rom or any stock rom..
and use Apollo Kernel
if u want to go back from kitkat to 4.1.2 u should flash PhilZ Recovery and full wipe )
I will soon upload my bbs logs, I made a test and the phone consumed much less battery when the sim card wasnt inside.
is there anyway to cancel all background apps or to reduce cellular data usage for apps?
perhaps use greenify to freeze apps......
or dont sync ur apps too often....
