There is an option in SuperSU to do a full unroot.

Why do you need to do this?

OTA updates with ROOT?

Ok, so I'm on the edge to root my Samsung Galaxy S3 (AT&T), but I have one concern. Jellybean is supposed to land on this phone in a month, and I was wondering that when I root my phone (no custom ROMs) can I update to jellybean OTA with the root, and have no problems?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
It's gonna be best to un-root before doing the eventual OTA update because it can play havoc with your phone otherwise.
If you stayed rooted and still done the OTA, the best case scenario is that it'll simply take your root status away, but it can cause more problem than simply that.
Sent from Stephen Hawking's rooted wheelchair
What's worse case scenario? And it is usually easy to unroot
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I'm not too sure what the worst case scenario is, I just remember reading it not long ago.
I didn't word that last post too well to explain properly. If you're only rooted then you'll be fine to do the OTA. It's if you have CWM installed that errors can happen.
So, you're fine to root but you'll have to re-root once you've done the update.
Sent from Stephen Hawking's rooted wheelchair
Ahhhh okay. So if I root and stay on stock ROM ( I'm not playing to put on any custom ROMs anytime soon) I can update OTA, and everything will go well, and then I'll just root again?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
It says I need to install CWM Recovery for the root

Many people run rootkeeper or the like to take OTA updates without issue. Haven't seen having root causing issues, just taking updates after erasing bloatware.
So if I root, I shouldn't have any problem updating to jellybean OTA?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I'm pretty sure you will. I rooted my phone and couldn't do a OTA so I just went with a custom rom that updates. Best decision ever

But what if I don't install any ROMs
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I'm sure the devs in your forum will offer a stock rooted ROM based off the OTA. So just keep your root and wait for them. Hell . They often release theirs before the official push.

Some devs here are starting to work on their OTA updates for their ROMs. Otherwise, most devs here work at a much faster pace to release their updates than any manufacturer or carrier will.
So its impossible to straight up OTA from your device if your rooted with no ROMs installed?? I don't want to wipe out my data and restore my backup all for a "ROM" because I can't update legittimatly from the OTA server

Its possible to receive ota updates... do it like this.. root your device.. don't remove bloatwares.. don't install custom kernel or rom.. then unroot your device before trying to use ota updates... it works for me.. so no worries..

Pretty much like this. But it makes rooting quite limited, so I don't see why you would go throught the hassle when a custom ROM is a waaayy better choice. Just my opinion, though

You needed to unlock the bootloader with freegee after you rooted the phone to actually delete any stock or bloat apps. There is a security check that runs when the bootloader is locked and freegee would of took care of that. Now you have to lgnpst back to stock. Grab the tot file in the dev section and get on irc and get the lgnpst.

Warning

I have been reading thorough the returning to stock post in lg general Dev. A lot of people are softbricking or bootlooping by flashing OTA an edited recovery.
Before you flash any OTA you must return to stock.
Just a word of warning. If I'm misinformed someone please correct me but that's what I got from reading.
Sent from my LG-LS980 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'm sure anyone that would be looking in the development threads would be looking for development so they might pass over this thread. In turn they will end up 'softbricking' their device because they didn't return to stock before hand.
You should have posted this is the correct place.
Now everyone's phones are going to be messed up.

if you can get in recovery, you are fine. Just have to clear some files and it will boot fine. It's "soft bricked" because it keeps trying to apply the OTA.
Sprint has an OTA?

If you have a nandroid backup, you should restore it. As soon as you restore it, you should flash back to stock. Then after your phone is clean, take the OTA and then root.

I'm not sure I've just seen lg in general has had updates being pushed.
However if we are on stock rooted ROM, shouldn't we be able to push the OTA? I'm not that versed in this.

Safe thing to do is to always flash back to stock to avoid any issues.
EDIT: Don't quote me on this but according to a Sprint G2 user in the thread below that if you have the stock recovery and didn't flash TWRP, you should be able to take the OTA without having to flash back to stock.

Good Info
Thanks for the post. I myself was applying the software downloads for my D800 At&t Variant. I am currently stuck right now and your explanation helps make a little sense of what is happening to my phone. I was stuck at the cm boot animation and tried to do a wipe and restore and a bunch of other stuff and nothing was working. Decided to flash back using the software from that thread, however the flash was listed as successful, but upon getting to the main screen of the os, keyboard doesn't come up, no signal or wifi, then after a minute or two the phone will just reboot. My thoughts are either that I have the OTA software missing key components from the original stock, or my efs is shot, in which case I am concerned. Just got this phone and would love to fix it. I will hunt for original software.
I had done a full lg stock backup through CWM and then exported that to my computer. Would that contain my efs info?
Thanks

[Q] How to unroot?

That being said I need to unroot my S4 but haven't been able to find a real how to on it. I would greatly appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction to do so. Thank you.

Which TWRP file. I have tried many methods and files and all I get is the phone stuck on a black screen at boot. I can boot it back up, but it seems to corrupt the recovery. A link would be great. I returned to stock 10b, took the 2 OTAs then rerooted, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

Attention Everyone... You can keep your root if you use voodoo, yes... However, good luck getting anything other than a stock recovery. The Loki bypass on the bootloader is what I believe the "security" patch is. I tried using Flashify, Root Recovery installer, etc none worked. Black screen on recovery. Tried to push recovery through ADB only to find that the partition was denying access to write to it. However I did manage to flash stock firmware and get my custom recovery back with no issues. So, if someone can get a recovery going, that's great please tell us exactly how you did it, but everyone else consider yourself warned. Lol... And in all honesty, the camera seemed improved... Lighting wise that's it... Touch screen still acted retarded for me.
