XDA,
I've had the DNA since January and rooted right away. I am having trouble getting wifi tether applications to function correctly.
For example, when I use the "Wifi tether for root users" app and when I start the tether I get a message "Started with errors" and the error is wlan0 cannot not be placed in ad-hoc mode. A similar error appears on every other app I use (tried 6 or 7 so far).
If someone posts instructions or link to a guide to get Wifi tether working, it would be very appreciated.
Device specs:
ROM: nos m7 2.0.3
HBOOT: 1.39.2000
Radio: 1.00.00.1023_3
best regards,
nm1557
I'm not sure about Sense based Roms, but on AOSP/CM10.1 ROMs WiFi tethering is included as a default feature. I know that Hatka Supreme (Sense 5) had it, but my data plan has it enabled even on completely stock so that may be the reason I had it.

Edit:
Sigh. I should have seen it sooner... I was letting Kernel Manager download and flash the kernel. When booting into recovery and installing with cm, the kernels do not break the wifi
Hello,
It seems that all roms that I try, I have to use a static ip to connect to wifi... It hangs on "obtaining ip address from xxx" and then fails. Except for this rom.
Basic Debloat
One of the first ROMs released. Very basic with most of the bloat removed except the HTC stuff.
Developer: adrynalyne

I've tried
1.12.605.6 Deodexed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000448
1.13.605.7 Basic DeBloat,
standard http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054239
& deodex http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054786
The Perfect Storm http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1006016
After installing I've tried a new kernel on all of them... Too many to remember. The "error" message goes away after reflashing the kernel but the phone will still not pull an ip from any network.
I've upgraded the fw in my router and extended the ip range. I have also tried 2 other open networks.
The Basic Debloat was the first rom I installed after rooting with this method... [ROOT] PermRoot + Unlock Bootloader - Safer/Easier 4/21/2011
I have gone back to Basic Debloat and the wifi works perfectly again.
What did I miss? Why does my phone wifi hate all roms other than the Basic Debloat?
Ok, I just flashed to The Perfect Storm v1.4 and wifi works perfectly with this. When I try a different kernel (to oc) downloaded from Kernel Manager it stops working... So, it appears to be the kernel but how can I run this rom with an overclocked uv kernel?
Update: It was Kernel Manager that was breaking the wifi. All kernels work fine on wifi when flashed through cmr.

Hey everyone,
I just updated to the newest MIUI build and its amazing. The only problem I am running into is that tethering does not work for me anymore. I tried the built in features in MIUI, Wireless Tether, and Barnacle WiFi Tether and none of them worked. The guide i followed went like this if that helps (because I came from stock):
1. Flash CWM 3.0x
2. Flash ROM/Kernal/GAPPS
I never rooted the phone if that matters? Either way, im on the ROM with no issues but that. Any help is appreciated!
For wireless tether, go to the settings, and change the Device-Profile to Google NexusOne. Hope it will work for you.
Actually its worse than I thought, I cannot turn on WiFi, its broken? weird..
Its MIUI 1.7.29 FascinateMTD.
Maybe broken in that version?
Fixed: It was the custom kernal. Re-flashed the ROM and WiFi and tether work.
I have an unlocked AT&T Moto Atrix 4G, that I previously had The DarkSide v1.5 installed. Mobile Wifi Tethering worked fine (as it didn't with the stock ROM, and required a damn tethering subscription to use the feature). So, last night, I followed the instructions and wiped and flashed to the latest The DarkSide ROM v3.1. Tethering now requires a subscription again ("Account not set up for Mobile Hotspot, goto att.com/mywireless... yada yada...).
How do I get it back?
*update*
I'm guessing it has something to do with the updating of the System version, GB2.3.5 uses v4.5.133, while when I was using DarkSide 1.5, it used 4.5.19. Tethering works via 3rd party app, but I keep getting "no access control" with Barnacle, which I didn't get before.
Hello,
For the past hour or so I have been trying my very hardest to get the Wifi Tether to work.
First I tried downloading the "Wifi Tether" app from the market, changed the device profile to "Samsung Galaxy Nexus", checked "Routing Fix", changed the SSID and Passphrase. I am able to start the Wifi Tether without any error, however the issue is the Access Point is not showing up on both a laptop and another phone. It's like my phone is not broadcasting at all.
I tried uninstalling the "Wifi Tether" app and installing one from the Wifi Tether thread in the development section "wifi_tether_v3_1-beta11.apk" and "wifi_tether_v3_2-pre1.apk". Neither of which worked. I also tried "Barnacle wifi tether", and could not even get that one started.
Newts OnE XxX 3.21
S-ON - (yes I flashed the boot.img separately after installing the rom)
Amon-Ra
Anyone have any suggestions? Might my only solution be to try another rom?
Thanks in advance!
-Mike
I am running that rom, same setup. I use the wifi tether 3.2 pre 1. Uninstall all copies of it then install that one, set the profile to "HTC Rezound" and set the method to "NetD", check routing fix. Try that
I have a problem with the SSID not broadcasting too on the latest version. Disabling encryption works.
Grab the version in the Wifi Tether thread in the dev section.

TRY setting it up as Generic ICS.
Just wanted to share:
FWIW, on my P7510 WiFi, I Odin'd CWM 5.5.0.4 and then CWM flashed CM10 JB 4.1.2 w/gapps. Everything seems fine but ad hoc networking was not working for tethering to my phone. However, the latest version of WiFi Tether for Root Users 3.2b2(play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether) supported infrastructure for my phone (Samsung Droid Charge) so tethering now works great.
Hope this helps some people or at leat gives some ideas...
