i9300 USB reconnecting problem - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys my name is Jody. I think this is my first post and would really appreciate some help.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300. I recently had a problem where my phone keeps disconnecting from the PC/Charger every second. It connects, then disconnects, connects, disconnects. I am not a fan of Kies and never used it. I know it is not a driver problem even thought I had tried a few and the fact that this happens with the original Samsung charger as well. I have also tried using a different USB cable. I tried using a different kernel, then different Roms(AOSP and Samsung base). I picked up that this problem happened after flashing to Ultirom and the problem has since stuck to the phone. I've done a cache wipe, factory defaults, all the usual tricks. All 4.1.2 roms I try do not work. I charge my phone with a blackberry charger (which has a lower amp rating) and phone charges fine without disconnecting. :crying:
The strange thing is that my phone works with the leaked samsung 4.2.2 XXUFME7 kernel version 3.0.31. mass storage works, charging works. I'm not sure what it can be. Phone works fine now but would like to go back to 4.1.2 for longer battery life, at the moment I get 8-9 hours tops. currently sitting at 61%charge with 5h 46min on battery.
Thanks
Jody

[Q] Phone will not recognize USB/Charge

I am having a problem with my Galaxy S3 when plugged into USB. It wont recognize the USB connection via laptop or charge via laptop or Samsung charger. Tried three official Samsung cables and chargers, 2 computers, and still nothing. The only time it recognizes anything is when the phone is in Download Mode. In which I can restore firmware and everything else. However, no matter what firmware I put, it still will not recognized the USB or charge. If anybody has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.
There are different drivers that need to be installed. As it recognizes the download mode seems like CDC driver is installed, but if you download kies, it should install all the necessary drivers automatically. Did you try it with a different computer? If this doesn't help then your last option is to factory reset.
Hope this helps

Downloaded Kies. Has all the correct drivers. Tried two different computers. Have two Galaxy S3's, swapped out batteries. Both batteries are good in one phone. The other phone just wont recognize USB or charge in any situation. Factory reset it 3 times. Cleared everything off the phone. Didnt change anything. Factory ROM no kernel hacks or anything. Cables are genuine Samsung that came with the phone. Used mine and my friend's cable for his S3. When you plug the phone in when the power is off, u can see the battery, but then the screen goes black and doesnt charged. Also we charged up both batteries fully using one good S3 proving both batteries are good. Im out of ideas..Thanks for the reply! I appreciate it!!

Well if you say, that you did a full wipe, just curious that after factory reset did you restored it from a backup or started new. I recommend start new. Even if this doesn't help than it definitely seems a hardware problem. Get it checked.
Just wanted to share. I had a Iphone 4s and suddenly it stopped charging through a wall charger and used to charge through a usb, after numerous restores I got it checked and there seems the problem.

Started brand new. Didnt restore from any backups or anything. Didnt root it at all. It seems as whatever the firmware that it uses for charging just stopped working...Im at a dead end...its funny because there isnt any topics online with a single similar symptom.
I have the same problem..
It doesn't give any notice when i plug it into the computer,
when i charge it the screen gives a grey battery loading picture
and then just turns black.. i can still acces download mode and use odin..
which makes it really strange..
it would be great if someone knows how to solve this
Thx in advance!

I have the exact same problem on my note 2, have been searching everywhere but cant seem to find an answer.
First of all hello xda, long time reader, first time poster.
I know it's been a long time since the last post, but instead of starting a new thread i suppose it's better to post here.
I got the same problem a few weeks ago and tried everything software-wise and still nothing. I noticed that when i turn my phone on i get a notification "USB connector connected" which leads me to believe that something is keeping the connector busy and unable to charge/connect exept when in d/l mode. Has anyone found a fix for this yet? I'd like to try and fix it myself before taking it in for repair.

I have exact same problem. Seemed to occur out of the blue. I took it off the car charger and everything appeared as normal until the next day I go to charge it with wall charger and no response, except for the grey battery image appearing for 2 seconds when and only when powered off and plugging in the charger. Tried many cables/chargers to no avail. There is also no response connecting to a PC, when the phone is on.
For the moment I can charge the battery(s) with an external charger and still use my phone.
I made a simple USB cable current monitor once to measure current consumption of portable devices. Just a 0.1ohm resistor in series with the USB V_BUS (+5V) pin. Since this fault occurred, the V_BUS pin current after plugging in the charger, starts off 250mA for few seconds while the grey battery image appears then the phone shuts down with a 5mA residual current. Clearly the battery is not being charged. Previous to the fault, V_BUS current during full charge is around 950mA. I'm sure its a hardware problem.

[Q] Charging problem

I have a problem with my three year old Samsung S2 (international version), running Android 2.3.
The phone sometimes does not charge at all when I connect the charging cable, at other times I have to turn off the phone before it will charge, and most of the time it will not swtich off when I try to power it down (it simply reboots). Basically, the charging is sporadic and unreliable.
Does anyone have any idea what causes this behaviour?
I have tried two batteries and two charging cables and these make no difference to the problem.
Thanks in anticipation.
Thats interesting. I have alot of problems with charging my S2 as well. Ive shipped it off to samsung twice, they replaced the bad hub/port or whatever the call it, have gone through 4 micro usb cables and i have another battery in the mail headed my way as we speak. A month later and its still doing exactly what you describe. I can barely charge mine anymore. Its only a year old but its No longer reliable. I cant seem to fix the problem so Im giving up on mine and getting myself a nexus 4.

Severe charging issue post rooting

Hi,
My Samsung Galaxy S3 (I9300) is just more than 1 month old. Due to the really bad multitasking abilities of the stock TouchWiz (On such an expensive phone, I couldn't browse and play music at the same time) I got really frustrated.
I rooted and flashed the ROM twice. Tried and tested two ROMs. Didn't quite like em. Came back to stock ROM.
Now I'm on stock ROM and still rooted. The charging time of my S3 was always very long and in my last charging attempt it has taken more than 9 hours to completely charge. I've done a factory restore already.
I've checked the charger through battery widgets and the charger is detected as an "AC Charger". I'm not sure if those battery calibrating software work. I don't think the charger is at fault.
I really need a fix for this charging issue. It's really sad that a brand new phone is acting like this.
Will be very thankful for all the help.

Okay, the new cable worked. However even it has shown the same problem once. The thing with my phone is it doesn't charge at the same speed every time. I can't be assured that after connecting the charger at night, I'll get a full charge in the morning. Sometimes the charger works well. Sometimes it does not.
You may have a faulty charging port or wall charger if you have already changed the cable...
Why not download the Galaxy Charging Current app and see if your SIII is charging at 1000mA using wall charger?
Galaxy Charging Current
My original samsung charge cable developed problems after 8 months (it started only charging at between 300mA to 800mA; changes after you plug in and plug out the cable to the SIII)
The wall charger is still ok as I get 1000mA again after replacing the cable with a Capdase cable.
The S3 has built in stability detection for USB charging. If it determines the connection is unstable, it restricts charge. Usually a simple cable swap resolves but as mentioned above, the port could be faulty.
If you're rooted try a kernel such as Devil or Perseus which can have stability detection ignored.

[Q] Phone not charging

Not quite sure what has happened to my One X+ so I'm hoping someone over here can help me.
I plugged in the charger today and for some reason my phone wasn't recognizing it at all, and carried on discharging.
I have been using the latest stable CM 10.2 (cm-10.2.0-enrc2b) for the past few days and everything has been working fine.
I tried several things to try and fix the issue, including a hard reset, a factory reset of the software and also flashing the latest CM 10.2 nightly (cm-10.2-20131209-NIGHTLY-enrc2b).
I have also tried a few different cables, and also charging from AC and my laptop.
Nothing so far has worked, so right now the phone is powered down but only has around 16% battery left.
Any other suggestions on what I could do to try and fix the issue?
I'm no longer under warranty so wanted to explore any other options before getting the hardware checked out.

I've been having similar issues with my HOX+, though mine usually knows when the charger is attached. Try turning it off and letting it charge overnight. I kept doing that till it eventually fully charged last time and started holding charge again.
A very similar thing happened with my wife's HOX+ , Kept it on charge overnight, turning off the phone .It works just fine now.. So what were you doing before the phone stopped charging ? And did it start charging back.

Phone says battery is charging when it's NOT plugged in

hello,
I have a Samsung S2 PLUS GT-I9105P (4.4.2 stock) at the beginning it started by turning off whenever I plug it into power. I started buy doing what all I can find in the internet ( stick a needle on the hole, factory reset, changed battery). NOTHING worked.
Then, since it never been flashed I tried 2 costom roms then nothing, still the same problem....and after than, I bought a new connector but this time the problem changed. the phone keeps charging and discharging even if it's not plugged (all the time the charge symbole flashes).
The last thing I did is that I disconnected the port from the motherboard and still the symbol whenever I insert the battery... I started to think that it doesn't come from the connector.
Please any ideas? Thansk in advance
