I been having weird recharge issue since i moved from VIKING V5 to Omega and now to PA3+
Phone recharges at optimal power , ie 900mA/h over USB 3.0 and 1000mA/h over wall charger.
But It recharges the battery at slower rate ie about 50% over 3 hours.
small detail here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44067907&postcount=3631
Please can someone help me fix this issue.
Let's analyze a little bit.
What part the recharging involved?
1. Power source, USB port or wall charger
2. Cable
3. The battery
I suggest you try use other cable or power source. Also use current app to see what's incoming current.
If it show normal current around 900 ~ 1000 mA and yet you still recharge slowly. Perhaps you may wanna try other battery...
Normally for me with 800 mA current, it take me somewhat around 3 or 4 hours to charge to 100%

1.) USB 3.0
2.) Samsung cable , which came with the phone
3.) Same samsung.
I used an app , it showed incoming is 900ma/h .
Many suggest to change the cable. Which one to use ? Any suggestion ?
OK found that my phone is only taking in 500ma/h even though incoming current is 900(usb 3.0) or 999(wall charger).
What to do and how to solve ?

Are you using that current detection application we have in general section?
Galaxy charge current, if I remember the name correctly.
If, you are able to determine the incoming current to your phone, and I assume that is real value, then you can do some basic mathematical calculation.
In your case if it is 900 mA , our battery is 2100 mAh, then the full charge time should be around 3 hours (phone in idle, because heavy task might drastically effect on the charge time)
If your power source and cable are all fine, and charge time is much more then 3 hours, then the problem probably in the end of battery. You may wanna try other battery.

Ok used HTC USB wire , now the app reads
Max : 900
Avg : 900

Which i think is the correct rating.
I think its a faulty cable .
Also Noted :
59 > 66% in 10 minutes ie 7% for 10 minutes , which almost equals 42% for 1 hour , which i good right ?
Thanks for your reply. Should i get a samsung USB or someother USB just to be sure ?

Yes, very normal charging rate, you don't have to specially to get other cable or charger, 1 hour for 40% is OK

You seem to be over worried.
Let's do a math here
Assuming 900 mA output, battery capacity is 2100 mAh
2100 mAh / 900 mA = 2.34 h.
Of course is this totally theoretical. Consider the device power consumption, cable resistance and battery natural property (charging rate become slower when closes to the fully charged, means last few percent is taking longer than usual due to battery natural property and some additional battery protection )
Consider these various factors which slows down the charging rate , 2.34 hours in theory, so it is OK to use somewhat around 3 hours to get battery fully charged.
And I'd say it is average, between 2.5 hours to 3 hours.

i just got this phone a few days ago. i love it. nothing wrong with it.
super fast and everything. im on 2.3.6. no issues. my battery lasts 12 hours easy. and actually up to 26 hours so far.
i dont even feel the need for a custom rom. at least not for now.
but one thing that makes me mad is how slow the phone charges, anyone know why this is ? it's kinda frustrating lol
any way to change this ?
also....i kinda hate that there is no camera button on the actual phone. oh well.
*Edited*
well i dont like to charge unless my battery is on red. so that conflicts, its not always red when i go to sleep. but thanks i'll check it out.
and i dont want to unlock to camera. it's easier to take photos with a button is what im saying

If I remember correctly waiting till the battery is completely depleted is not a good thing for our batteries.
i never said completely depleted though.
and yea ive read so many reviews to not do that, and reviews that say you should... and reviews to charge it this much and that much and blah blah. may be a new phone, but none of this is new to me.
Charge current is hardware limited from what I've read. Or atleast for the time being. If your using the phone while charging it'll be significantly slower. Also using wallplug makes a difference. If you've got stuff running while charging try throttling down the CPU while charging.
Other than that I think our phone is limited to 650mah to charge. So 1650/650 is about 2.5 hours with perfect efficiency. Now take into account the power being drawn and how the chargers for li batteries work, that's about 3-4 hrs to be expected.
And don't run li batteries all the way down on a regular basis, its not good. I'm not positive on li ion batteries, but with lipo you generally want to use about %80 of rated capacity to prolong life and power of the cell.
400 mA on USB, 650 on a wall charger, CPU/screen usage counts against these limits - no way to change this
Forgot where I read it. Could be wrong too.
Slow charging for this phone was samsungs way of keeping our phones battery in shape. Hopefully prolonging the life of it. I noticed my 3GS lose about 20% of its full capacity in a couple years. Only time will tell?
Siyah has an option to upping the charging mA I believe.

all useful responses and all make sense. thank you guys.
i dont use it when it charges and yea it does take about 4 hours to charge.
coming from a crappy xperia x10 which took about 2 hours to charge from 0 to 100
but this phone is 10 times better even without a custom rom so i can deal.
thank you guys for ur knowledge.

He removed it because it turned out not to work. (If it's still there I'm surprised - it should be completely gone.)
It turns out the I9100 has the same limitation as the I777 - charging is handled not by the MAX8997, but by a MAX8922.

If you are on Entropy's DD kernel you should divide that number by 2.85
Battery charge current monitoring (CurrentWidget) support - only reports charge current and not discharge, and reports a value 2.85 times the actual current. Use CurrentWidget's "operation on value" to divide by 2.85.

i have a few questions and would really appreciate if you could answer me;
1: ive seen a 1800 2100 and 2500 mah batteries on ebay i.e:

are the the same size and compatible with my i9100 (i dont want my device to explode or somthing )
2: my i9100 is taking for ever to be charged... it can take up to 4-5 hours from 0-100% is it normal?
3: it also heating up very often to 38-48 c (at least thats what the app tells me) is that normal also??
thanks!
1). You'd be lucky to get more than 1400 mAh on any of them, and if it says it fits, there's no reason to think otherwise
2). If you're using it at the same time, yes
3). Yes
same questions...
I have been tempted to buy one of the extended batteries, so what you say is that they are not good quality and will not last more than the stock one?
I also get bery high temepratures on the phone, is there a way to kow the limits on temperature for this phone?
Thanks, I have the same questions

1. You can use the bigger battery but I think the 2000mah needs a bigger battery cover.
2. Are you charging it through the wall or usb? Some roms have a fast charge option but might break the usb port.
3. Heating is normal. Just let it rest for a bit. You can try to take the battery out for a few minutes
Hope it helps

overclocking always consumes battery because of high performance ...
Do you use underclocking?
(Clock lower than stock max)
nah.. just default clock... by the way.. if i see some application that uses max default clock all the time.. i use setcpu to underclock for that particular application... say half of default clock...
results = less battery consumption for that application...

Yes I am , thank you, cause the slow charge issue was elaborated and mentioned so many time around XDA but seems no one cares to search and read.
This phone with and with original charger, and AFTER teh update from Gingerbread to ICS/JB is charging as per specs. On Gingerbread there was a flaw that permitted to charge it upto 900-1000 mA but the phone was rather hot, I recall charging mine in an hour and a half or 15-20 minutes more, from 2-3% to 100% back when phone had GingerBread.

You can use 2.1A output chargers too, it is simply not going to draw all that but you might get the better on the go recharging while you're using the phone with heavy apps. Just think of the dual car chargers - they have both 1A (phone) and 2.1A (tablet) output. SatNav on 1A is zeroing or still draining your phone battery, while 2A can slowly charge it on the go.
You just give it a needed juice and if the discharge is so greater then recharge, there's not much you can do about it.
Call it a flaw, but Samsung did it cause of longevity of their batteries and li-ion technology.
That is why I indicated iCrap and BB - their fast charge is provoking rather fast discharge too cause the battery will not hold it. I have colleagues with BB who're charging in an hour but get their phones depleted in 3 hours of usage... I wouldn't want that from my S2 for sure. :good:

It doesn't matter what the output current of the charger is... the phone will only draw 650mA.
The charger I got with my S2 delivers 1A but my phone only draws 650mA. Actually the hardware doesn't support it.
IMO, 3hrs is pretty fast for a full charge.
Edit: Just noticed that Fevves already mentioned all that...

Some kernels have the Option to change the charge rate but even at 650mA the phone will get very hot if you are doing something on it while charging

Not really. Just don't let it overheat.
Try charging while your phone is off and see how long it takes. I'm sure MM running throttles the charge rate or its heavy cpu usage while MM is running. 4-5 hours is looong. Sure mine takes no more than 2 hours while running on LP.
EDIT: OK maybe I exaggerated a little, mine is closer to 3 hours after testing on LP.

Thanks to all of you for sharing info. I think my device got slow charging problems due to using cheap magnetic cable otherwise on stock charger it used to charge fast. I attached magnetic cable the wrong way that might have disturbed the battery
