So when plugged in wall charger it uses 650 mah or do i need to use the app on the video to increase the voltage?
Sorry....but I can't believe you posted this..... 3 hours IS pretty damn fast.....my old galaxy W used to take 5 to 6 hours.
A lot of things in this world may well be instant.........phone charging ain't EVER gonna be one of them.........

Then buy an ICrap or old BlackBerry and get a swirl... live free with equally fast discharge...
Fast charge is disabled by default (on obvious reasons, google it), but hey... anyone is free to make it work if he can find a proper solution.
Said that, 3 hrs should be more like 2 hours or 2 hours and a a half... but seen OP never stated specs, it's all right.

In fact, the most other phones charge with ~1A+ and they don't have any big draing issues in common. It doesn't matter which OS they run.

Yes I am , thank you, cause the slow charge issue was elaborated and mentioned so many time around XDA but seems no one cares to search and read.
This phone with and with original charger, and AFTER teh update from Gingerbread to ICS/JB is charging as per specs. On Gingerbread there was a flaw that permitted to charge it upto 900-1000 mA but the phone was rather hot, I recall charging mine in an hour and a half or 15-20 minutes more, from 2-3% to 100% back when phone had GingerBread.

You can use 2.1A output chargers too, it is simply not going to draw all that but you might get the better on the go recharging while you're using the phone with heavy apps. Just think of the dual car chargers - they have both 1A (phone) and 2.1A (tablet) output. SatNav on 1A is zeroing or still draining your phone battery, while 2A can slowly charge it on the go.
You just give it a needed juice and if the discharge is so greater then recharge, there's not much you can do about it.
Call it a flaw, but Samsung did it cause of longevity of their batteries and li-ion technology.
That is why I indicated iCrap and BB - their fast charge is provoking rather fast discharge too cause the battery will not hold it. I have colleagues with BB who're charging in an hour but get their phones depleted in 3 hours of usage... I wouldn't want that from my S2 for sure. :good:

It doesn't matter what the output current of the charger is... the phone will only draw 650mA.
The charger I got with my S2 delivers 1A but my phone only draws 650mA. Actually the hardware doesn't support it.
IMO, 3hrs is pretty fast for a full charge.
Edit: Just noticed that Fevves already mentioned all that...

Some kernels have the Option to change the charge rate but even at 650mA the phone will get very hot if you are doing something on it while charging

i just got this phone a few days ago. i love it. nothing wrong with it.
super fast and everything. im on 2.3.6. no issues. my battery lasts 12 hours easy. and actually up to 26 hours so far.
i dont even feel the need for a custom rom. at least not for now.
but one thing that makes me mad is how slow the phone charges, anyone know why this is ? it's kinda frustrating lol
any way to change this ?
also....i kinda hate that there is no camera button on the actual phone. oh well.

If I remember correctly waiting till the battery is completely depleted is not a good thing for our batteries.
i never said completely depleted though.
and yea ive read so many reviews to not do that, and reviews that say you should... and reviews to charge it this much and that much and blah blah. may be a new phone, but none of this is new to me.
Charge current is hardware limited from what I've read. Or atleast for the time being. If your using the phone while charging it'll be significantly slower. Also using wallplug makes a difference. If you've got stuff running while charging try throttling down the CPU while charging.
Other than that I think our phone is limited to 650mah to charge. So 1650/650 is about 2.5 hours with perfect efficiency. Now take into account the power being drawn and how the chargers for li batteries work, that's about 3-4 hrs to be expected.
And don't run li batteries all the way down on a regular basis, its not good. I'm not positive on li ion batteries, but with lipo you generally want to use about %80 of rated capacity to prolong life and power of the cell.
400 mA on USB, 650 on a wall charger, CPU/screen usage counts against these limits - no way to change this
Forgot where I read it. Could be wrong too.
Slow charging for this phone was samsungs way of keeping our phones battery in shape. Hopefully prolonging the life of it. I noticed my 3GS lose about 20% of its full capacity in a couple years. Only time will tell?
Siyah has an option to upping the charging mA I believe.

i dont use it when it charges and yea it does take about 4 hours to charge.

but this phone is 10 times better even without a custom rom so i can deal.

He removed it because it turned out not to work. (If it's still there I'm surprised - it should be completely gone.)
It turns out the I9100 has the same limitation as the I777 - charging is handled not by the MAX8997, but by a MAX8922.

If you are on Entropy's DD kernel you should divide that number by 2.85
Battery charge current monitoring (CurrentWidget) support - only reports charge current and not discharge, and reports a value 2.85 times the actual current. Use CurrentWidget's "operation on value" to divide by 2.85.

i bought a charger online it looks very much like the original bundled one. However i have a couple of questions
1. is there a way i can check the output quality using the phone itself and not a multimeter . Like variation in voltage/current?
2. using a multimeter do i have to tear apart the charger to check the output quality.
any inputs are welcome

Depends on what you mean by 'output quality'. If you mean the ripple (noise), especially in response to load changes, then no, you can't without oscilloscope and dummy load.
If you do not have this measuring equipment, then I would use these two simple tests:
does the empty phone fully charge within 2 - 3 hours ?
does the touchscreen stay responsive while charging ?
If you can answer both of these questions with yes then one could assume the charger is of good quality.

If the battery is fine (and it should still be after 8 months) charging of an empty battery should happen within 2 - 3 hours.

I just bought another battery. I found it was the battery more than port problems or anything like that. My friend and I have the same phones, same roms. We tested this by first going through 3 power cycles. After we charged it, we had only the same apps working, except for some minor checking of FB and twitter (I don't use twitter, but he does).
After our 4th power cycle, it seemed like his phone was dying faster w/ my battery in it. His battery in my phone lasted about 5-10 hours more, I did my normal daily activities on it, even played some youtube videos in class.
So I bought a new one, and bam, stays alive more than 12 hours

Common sense post of the day:
You have to be really careful getting phone accessories off e-bay. In the past I've been duped into buying a fake SD card and a wonky battery.
hi,i just bought new 2.1A charger for my S3 and with current widget it shows 999mA charging rate. so S3 dont charge faster even I have better charger? Because when I play some games with wifi on and brightness on 50 percent with charging my battery % dont go up but slowly go down :/
1A is the limit. Some kernels allow it to go up to 1100
ok, now understand. maybe I can rise by myself that rate? or its dangerous for phone or batttery? Or only kernel devs can do it? Now Im using siyah kernel

LoL don't worry about your phone exploding.
I've been fast charging for the last 6 months.
There are no adverse effects. No increase in Battery temp while charging and no effect on Battery longevity.
You can safely go up to 1500 with either Yanks or Perseus Kernel
If you choose perseus don't switch off the failsafe.
Don't expect anything dramatic though. I would say that there is a10 to 15% reduction in charge time.
You will notice a much bigger effect with usb fast charge if you increase that from the stock 450 to 1000. Especially when using a car charger.

Isn't Fast Charging Bad For The Battery?
That would depend on the battery's C rating. Charging at higher rates doesn't necessarily cause damage. There are plenty of articles on charging lithium ion/poly cells out there.
In my previous S7 Edge , the battery lost plenty of juice in just one year of usage ( i was using wireless charging only). Then i sent it to samsung warranty and they replace battery. Tried to find something about if could be the wireless charging that damaged the battery and found none that supported that theory.
Now, with the S8, i´m using the provided charger and cable only (Just to be safe).

Wireless is different due to the losses in the induction, creating heat, which does have some affect. But there are a lot of variables as to why your battery performance may have degraded.

Right... it seems every day someone thinks they know more than engineers in that field, battery is getting hot so it must be bad. Yet every year qualcomm and others improve quick charging for even faster charging, so unless someone actually knows something these threads should just stop.

Why would you assume its bad for the battery in the first place? Just because it gets hot? The cpu also gets hot when gaming so i should stop gaming? Recording 4k videos also heats up the phone so i should stop recording 4k video's? Constantly downloading will probably heat up the modem too so i should stop downloading? If something is built into the phone why would you assume its bad for the phone?

Hey, don't take it badly, he is just asking. I remember old batteries (for example ni-mh) if you charge it at a high current they use to live less than if you charged them at a slow one (i remember using rechargable batteries of this time for my wii control and i could test it with how long they lasted).
I think the new Li-ion (or better) batteries nowadays don't suffer from this, so you should be safe about them. They have a natural capacity loss thats isnt affected about the rest of the things. You should anyway check for faulty chargers or your battery life, remember all the test samsung makes are with their original hardware.
Regards!

This is someone not knowing what they're taking about trying to talk down on someone else.
Anyways heat has always been detrimental to battery health which is why samsung fast wireless chargers have fans built in to keep the heat low. Along with this the phone will prevent charging if it passes a certain heat threshold I believe 40c iirc and also the phone uses adaptive charging to prevent over heating of the phone with the included fast charger and charging circuit design. As long as the phone continues to regulate the charge coming into the phone fast charging shouldn't hurt. Of course with fast charging you go through battery cycles faster but this is just because you can charge it a lot more times than with regular charging.
My personal experience:
- 2 years of fast charging = battery drain between 100 and 90 very much noticable
- charging over night causes more damage than fast charging
