Help! Xperia Sola unusable. - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hello, my problem is, eveytime i use the phone it is freezing! E.g. I go to the internet and have to wait 30 seconds before i can type anything and then it is still slow as hell (if you excuse the word). My bootloader is unlocked and i am running the GX 5.1.1 rom. I am not new to flashing roms and i have already flashed dozens. I would like to know what is slowing down the phone, even though i am using just one app at a time. And i would like to ask you how to fix it and maybe suggest the most stable/fast rom. My background process is always on 2 and my cpu settings are as follows: Max 1,3 Ghz min 100 governor: hotplug i/o scheduler: sio. I also dont have much apps installed, just the essentials and my synchronization is off. I am grateful for any advice, thank you!

Overclocking is NOT reccomend. Actually, it slows your device instead since your device is hot and it will underclock itself
Try 1000MHz and post a reply on the situation again.

Actually, i turned it down to 1 Ghz the other day, to save battery and have not changed it since, so i know that is not causing the problem. I forgot that part, sorry. The phone does this with a lot of roms, maybe not from the start, but after a week or so it eventually slows down quite a bit.

Hmmmm...... Might be the rom. Try flashing stock (?)

SetCPU question...

Just downloaded this app and have to say its amazing. If anyone can help me setup a battery efficient and performance profile it would be.greatly appreciated . No clue how to work this app yet.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I used to set the profiles to drop the cpu to low levels while it's sleeping, but the three times I've tried with SetCPU v.2.0.3 it crashes on me, or more accurately it never wakes up from sleep, I have to hard reset.
Yeah started doing that exact same thing to me. Uninstalled and refunded... Not playing the freezing games.. Unless im underclocking too much any ideas?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
You are probably underclocking too much. I tested with some various settings for the Screen Off and the only underclock that seems stable for the Screen Off (a.k.a. sleep) profile is 800MHz. Anything lower, and it will do this.

Don't set the minimum speed below 200MHz. The phone's stock minimum speed is 200, so anything below that can cause problems (wake up and freezing mostly). I've got my minimum at 400MHz and it's running smoothly.

Did you change the scaling from "conservative"?
i had all tons of issues when i changed the scaling, it would freeze every 30-60mins, I read on here, that it will cause a lot of issues, and should be left on "conservative". I tried that, i am running JAC's OC/UV kernel-no voodoo-no colorfix. OC'd to 1.2ghz, and have been solid for 4 days.
Works! Thx.

200mhz and 1200mhz - Normally
200mhz and 600mhz - Screen Off

Oh yeah...good point. I should have thought of that too. It even says on SetCPU's download page "Galaxy S devices: use conservative scaling."

Set CPU app

I have a rooted photon with no custom rom just rooted would this app help me to save battery can anybody testify?
Sent from the best MoPho
If you underclock the phone it will save battery life. And you should be able to do that, however, I know you have to be unlocked with the custom kernal to overclock, so the same may apply to underclocking but if not. You can save some battery life with "ROM Toolbox" setting the CPU to Powersave and lowering the Max CPU. I do it generally when I'm sleeping. My two cents.
As long as a kernel doesn't have a perf lock I'm sure it can be underclocked. With SetCPU you can set profiles, so I could see the chance of saving battery if you were to set a screen off profile to run at the lowest mhz your phone will tolerate. I've done this on both my Hero and Evo when I had them and it worked wonders. I have yet to try with my Photon as I just got it yesterday and want to see how stock performs so I have something to compare to. I say try it out and give us some results! lol..
Good idea and trying out now
.....will be back.

I will have to mess with the profiles.

Tried this stock kernel rooted, and the under clock didn't seam to take effect when you go into the advanced options it still showed the CPU going up to 1GHz.
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk
I don't think the stock kernal supports cpu modding. I could be wrong though.
Sent from my Photon via XDA
Underclocking does not work with the stock kernel. You'll need to unlock your bootloader and flash a custom kernels to both over/underclock.
Yep after one day of testing my battery was dying quicker! Uninstalled I might unlock it but losing 4G to me is not worth it right now.
Sent from the best MoPho
Yeah. If you use 4G often I wouldn't. But supposedly there is a work around.

In the Dev section, I believe there was a thread with some stock tweaks, where you didn't have to flash a rom or unlock or any of that jazz. You might try looking there. I know some of that stuff was kinda cool.

theres a app in the market called system panel lite it shows you the process of both cores and the photon does underclock while idle on its own the app also shows the cpu usage in real time my stock kernal went to around 246 mhz with that app running and just fyi the other core is only used ondemand..
It appears to be working just fine on mine. I'm also using the 198 leak and rooted.

Yup my phone updated, if I install custom Kernel, when I unroot it and stock ROM can I still get back to my official Kernel version? And can I still get my warranty?
+1, sometimes it gets quite hot, sometimes not. Either has something to do with rooting or stock kernel is bad. Reboot fixes it temporarily here...
Of course it gets warm when you're doing things with the phone, it's what processors (and pretty much everything else in the world) does when doing work.
It's not a bug, nor a problem, just a thing that happens to everything.
High temperature means the CPU is working.
If you're surfing the WEB, it's quite normal with todays heavy usage of Javascript and animations on webpages. Custom kernels can reduce it somewhat by not going to full CPU speed (1.4GHz) directly, but this will naturally reduce the phone's "instant" performance.
I wouldn't say it gets heating up or hot. Just feel warmer. That's all. Nothing to worry about.

[Q] Battery drain in stock 6.1.A.2.45 - how to deal with it?

Hello,
I've been using the Xperia S for about a week now and i immediately noticed the shortened battery life - especially compared to the 30-70hrs that I've been reading in some threads. I've flashed it to 6.1.A.2.45 and wiped everything and I'm facing the same problem. for 7 hours of work today i have 37 mins of talking over 2G, 1.3 h screen on at 40% and the battery is already at 45%. Android system is showing 1.13h in the Keep awake field and i also noticed on the graph that something is constantly awaking the phone.
If i disable the data connection and turn off sync i get amazing results - the battery drops about 3% for 6-7 hr during the night. I'm using exchange services to check my corporate email and when i changed it from Push to 1hr checking the battery drain got a little bit less offensive, but still this is causing a lot of trouble. I've installed GSam Battery Monitor and i noticed, that Android system is responsible for the biggest % of battery drain. I also noticed that the magnetic field sensor seams to be on all the time - i haven't installed any compass apps, should it be working all the time?
Can you please suggest how to deal with that problem? I knew that the Xperia is lacking in battery, but didn't know it's draining that fast and cannot last even a day.
I'm on the same firmware but with xsspeed kernel V6 set down to 84mhz and bloatware apps removed and my battery is brilliant!

Where can i find that kernel? Also can you please suggest which apps is better to be removed?

Even i wanted to hear from you.. Which apps are bloatware apps? (Im also with 6.1.A.2.45 and my battery sucks!)
Kernel is in the development section but you need to unlock your bootloader. My battery is normally around 30% by bed time and I use it quite a lot during the day and I'm normally up for work around 6am!
There's lists somewhere around the forum of unnecessary apps
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2
Just delete everything you don't need. Install gsam battery monitor to see which apps are taking up power and keeping the phone awake.
I don't see the point of buying the phone and then underclocking it, a bit like buying a supercar and limiting it to 29mph, lol. There's no way to compare battery life with other people as usage will be different, I'm a low/medium user and get about 30 hours, those who say they get days out of one charge probably never use the phone and switch it off at night.

I Too have the same firmware with locked bootloader and my battery is really good!
Check out the question answer thread where some had asked for a list that can be frozen and I had given them a list..
Also that add the tweaks to build.prop that I have written in the general section!

try the XSX kernel.. shame that theres no interactiveX governor but you could set it to interactive and add a profile for screen off at the lowest frequency.
I think I might have some success! I unlocked my my booloader and flashed arakmar's advanced stock kernel 15. I also flashed the latest XSSpeed Rom but I had to keep arakmar's kernel because with the XSSpeed kernel the phone was not booting. I don't observe any drqin for now, when the phone is locked the battery shows a straight line and the % is now dropping. I'll test a littpe further and i'll write again.
Realfelix, sorry for the noob question, but how cwn I use interactive governor with my current configuration?
Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
its not a noob question as you need to flash the XSX kernel(or any that supports other cpu governors than ondemand, conservative, performance and powersave) and set the governor to interactive with Nofrills CPU control(free app) or setCPU(paid).
I found the xsx kernel causes a lot of reboots

[Mod] Thermaconfig changes for Better Performance

Hi All,
There are modifications for the thermald.conf, which controls your CPU and GPU after a certain temperature.
I've modified the file to fit different profiles that'll work for people. So without further ado, here are the profiles.
Remember to backup before flashing, and not responsible for bricks and blah and blah. However, if something goes wrong, you're more the welcome to message me for help.
Stock
This is the stock file with no change.
Stock Therma
Optimized Stock
This is a slightly optimized stock that deals with the overheating and throttles the CPU and GPU properly.
Optimized Stock
Gaming
This prioritizes the GPU for gaming over any other feature
Gaming Therma
Gaming (Plus Battery Saver)
This prioritizes gaming; however, also throttles your CPU to help save battery.
Gaming Therma + Battery Saver
Better CPU
This is probably the best battery saver; however, it drastically throttles the GPU.
Better CPU
Full Power
Ignores any throttling rules, but battery drain will happen. And phone will overheat quicker. However, you'll experience the fastest speeds.
Full Power
Best Battery and Overheating
This sacrifices performance to optimize battery and subdue the heating issues.
Best Battery
will wait for braver souls then myself before trying. But awesome work man! Does this work on both ICS and JB?
Cant even try this "Server Offline. Please hang tight while we get this resolved." Once its fixed I'll try some of them out
This may be a dumb question but is it nexus 4 conversion compatible?

I also tried it. And it's been working great. I haven't had any over heating issues. I don't know how well it works with the conversion; however, the nexus has the same configuration that can be modified.

Yeh they should go to system/etc if u are correct about them Goin to app instead then they won't do anything. I think he just took the zip from someone and tossed the files in there. Also if you are running JB don't flash this the file name is wrong it has to be
thermald-8064.conf so you guys should wait for him to fix it and personally I would wait on flashing this unless he tested it first.

not even close, all it does it either slows/lowers down or doesnt do anything to CPU/GPU or screen brightness depending on the temperature of CPU/GPU. Basically its system underclock depending on temperature.
This shouldn't really be under Dev... It is something that has been known about for quite a while and even has a tutorial posted under the App section for a while now. It was never released like this because it can very well allow the phone to fry itself.
Disclaimer (I have been using an edited thermald with all governors disabled for a couple months no with no issues.)

I think there's a slight misconception on folder structure. I could have named it whatever, but the updater script pushes it to the correct folder.
I have tested, and it works wonderfully. However, the risks are always present if you choose to set the temp tires higher or remove the throttling.
