[Q] Skype showing stats during video call on mum's S3. - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
So since the new Skype update my mum's been having this strange issue during video calls where a bunch of stats show up.
Screenshot is attached since I can't post outside links.
Any ideas? I've tried exploring skype settings but can't figure out what's causing it.
Thanks.

Turned out to be the "Show technical info" setting, but it was bugged or something, that's why turning it on/off didnt work. Reinstalled app, and then uncheck it again (dunno why it got checked by default) and it stopped showing it.
Thanks.

[Q] Proximity sensor not working

Hi guys. I have a peculiar problem in my new Galaxy S3. Whenever I make a call, the screen remains on even though I have ticked the 'Auto screen off during calls' option in call settings. Also, whenever I input any numbers while in a call, the keypad does not hide. I mean I get the 'Hide' option but it doesn't do anything and the keypad stays on the display. Can anyone tell me if this is a known issue or am I the only one facing it? Is there any workaround this? I am on stock firmware (XXLF2) and haven't even rooted my phone yet. Please help me guys!
I have exactly the same problem. I know the proximity sensor works, because I tried the proximity sensor test app. But my phone does not turn off screen when in call.
i have same problem any one help us ?
I also have this problem.. and to make it worse, I can't seem to call out occasionally. I swipe to call, but nothing happens. I can't even dial out at times.. rebooting usually solves the issue, but the problem quickly comes back.
I'm not rooted, on stock rom. Anyone know what the issue is?
OK, it looks like for me, it was a conflict between Google Voice and the phone. Turning it off/disabling it fixes the problems I've been having. I'll have to see what exactly is causing the conflict, but at least everything works with it off.

Where exactly is the option for turning off Google Voice?
I looked in Applications All but couldn't find it.

Check under 'Voice', not Google voice. It's also an option on the Voice widget.
If that doesn't fix it, try rebooting and doing it again.

'Voice' was my search pattern. It's got to be there I'll find it.
Hi guys,
Did you find a solution to this problem yet? I have the same problem, and no matter what I do, I can not make it work. The screen is always on during a call. I am using the stock rom, without root, as it is.
------------
Nevermind. I fixed it by removing FSC ID, apparently it was interfering.
i had the same problem but it was fixed after i made a phone restart.
I have the same problem...

1) Open the Messaging app>Menu>Delete>Select all at the top and delete.
And/Or
2) Try deleting data of the messaging.
This worked for a colleague of mine but in her case, she had a '1' stuck for both messaging and call log.
Seeing as the call log also shows messages, this might work for you too.
Good luck!

me too. us cellular version.
i found clearing the ram works till another message.
also go to settings. then hit developer options, you should have the "Dont Keep Activities" unticked. (works for some)
with that i found the battery doesnt last as long.
i sure this is a known issue and will be fixed soon i hope
my specs;
baseband=r530uvxlf9
let me know i want to get this figured out and fixed asap
I have tried clearing the ram, clearing phone app data, clearing messaging app data but still the same issue! Do you have any recommendation beside factory reset as I am not in favor for that option
me too have same problem ,, please help
same problem here, don't want to factory reset..this is very annoying from a flagship phone!
Same problem here
I have same problem on message, though so far I've been able to clear it by rebooting. Seem pretty dumb. I wonder if any bug report has been file to Samsung.
i also experienced this problem on messaging. i factory reseted the phone. it worked fine for a while but then again samething started happening..the second time i cleared all data on messaging app, unchecked "do not keep activities" in developer options. seems to work fine till now. and also make sure you dont have any unreaded conversation on "whatsapp messenger".

GREAT! IT WORKED! THANKS A LOT!
The 3 'clear data' seem to have only wiped the call log. Anyway I had backed up everything using Titanium PRO.
I called myself to get a missed call, the '1' appeared again, and then disappeared when I opened the log again. Hopefully the bug won't come back!
Thanks again!

I also found that if you clear the call log it'll fix the problem. It comes back once in a while but is easy to clear.

Hi, thanks! it worked with only clearing the 1st 2 data.
What i did was i cleared the 1st 2 data, worrying that the 3rd would delete all my contacts.
so i synced my contacts with kies into the computer. after disconnecting the phone the notification was gone.
Only clear data from BadgeProvider

Thanks Nexus!
I had the problem with a 1 stuck on my Phone icon [Samsung Galaxy S3, GT-i9300, Android 4.1.1]. This was a problem that persisted across the update from Android 4.0 to 4.1.
I followed a single step in your proposal:
-Clear data from "Badgeprovider"
And added step:
-Enter Phone app and exit.
This removed the badge, which seems fairly harmless I guess no backup is necessary for such an action.
Not to add flamebait, but coming from iOS, things like this gets on my nerve. Since I'm new to Android, I don't know if this is a bug coming from Android or from TouchWiz or something else Samsung slapped on. Please tell us if this is one argument to run vanilla Android on the S3!
Try....Settings - Application manager - All - BadgeProvider, Clear data and restart phone
it worked for me

Google Voice Notifications

Has anyone experienced problems with GV notifications? I don't get them while my phone is off, but as soon as I wake it up, the notifications appear. Any suggestions?
You may have power saver mode on and have selected shut data off when screen is off. I unchecked that and it worked fine for me. I'm just saying that happened to me. May not be whats happening to you.

Seems to be an issue with many people. Deleted text and voicemails somehow show up in your inbox. When I long press to delete them it actually gives me the option to "undelete". Not sure what is going on.

Why is my phone now talking to me?

Hi there,

Should be under Accessibility. It is for me.
For me, the speech rate and driving mode are under Language and input, not Accessibility. Are you sure you're looking in the right place?
How odd, its not here for me..

I see. Thebiyani is a JB based ROM. I am on ICS. So it's a good chance things are located in different spots for us.
Try asking in the ROM thread.
I'm on the leaked lsj (not this rom) and for me its under accesability>services>talkback. Otherwise if you can't find you could always try going into titanium baackup (if you don't have this and flash custom roms you really should) and find talkback and then freeze it, however i'm not sure if this will cause any other issues
I've "no services installed" under services...
But i have found out why the phone started talking.
I downloaded the app No LED and apparently that makes the talkback start.. bit of a rubbish bug TBH but at least I found the problem... But I never did find the Talkback
thanks though for your responses

[Q] How to backup contacts from phone?

Note : This is my Mom's phone. It is not mine.
The phone (Galaxy S 2) suddenly have popups of "unfortunately" notification that keeps on looping to pop out every time i tapped ok.
The phone get extremely slow and i cant access the setting or other ui.
Lets just say that the touch screen is not working. because i cant tap other interface except the notification area.
My mom said that her contact was saved in the phone but not in the google.
So what im trying to do here is, hard reseting the phone to the stock rom but i need to backup all the contacts and I cant do so.
I tried connecting to the SAMSUNG KIES but it takes lifetime to connect.
Any solutions?
sorry for my bad english.
