When an app gets permission to access your Google account's Android services exactly what does it have access to? Is it authenticated to access all your google stuff including gmail?
For example, I installed Changelog Droid from the play store and it wants to access my Android services. I understand it probably only needs the permission to access my play store account to analyze my installed apps, but what else is open to it if I give it the permission?
I could not find a definite answer anywhere.

Yes (it includes access to all the Google apps, actually).

Thanks for your response, RoberGalarga. It sucks that one has to give up so much for apps that do so little. Google should really segment account access a lot more. It would be great to have an easy to understand resource on which permissions are safe (privacy-wise) and which ones give away keys to the kingdom.

Sorry in advance if this has already been adressed...
I bought this Nook Tablet for my wife as an Xmas present. I am currently getting it suped up for her so that when she receives it will feel like a real tablet experience. So far I've rooted and have go launcher, gapps, market, etc. I've sideloaded many apps...bla bla bla.
My question is this...i used to be an android user...i had tons of apps...is there a way for me to login to my google acct as well as hers so that i can access all those apps i used to have when i had android devices?
Also...is there a way to change the device i.d. so that we can access all apps from the market rather than having to sideload outdated apps and never get an update? She won't like that...

Trolling around Google, it would appear that it is a possibility as it is possible on other devices:

That said, you need to get to the "Accounts" page which isn't easy on a stock Nook Tablet. Download/sideload AnyCut and I believe you can create a shortcut to the Accounts page. From there you can try setting up another google account and see if the market will allow both IDs to function.
As for "changing the device ID", I'm not 100% clear on this but there is a forum discussing how to get Google apps working:

In that thread, I believe there are some posts where people tried getting more applications from the market by setting their DPI to 160 using the build.prop file:

However, it looks like there were mixed results with that.
In any case, if you choose to fool with your build.prop file, PLEASE make a backup before hand so you can easily restore it in the event of a mess-up.
Please note I'm summarizing information here and drawing conclusions by searching Google and these forums. I do NOT have a Nook Tablet and I'm unable to try out my first suggestion.
So I wondered the same thing last week and spent a lot of time reading google's support forums and ended up with:
- There was a way to do this this in market builds from July 2011 to around this Sept
- it was buggy and people would get logged in and out of the wrong accounts when downloading and installing stuff
- they removed the feature until further notice
- it *should* be fixed and added back in soon - multiple account management and a way to control purchases (which is also needed - no in app purchasing lock blows).
Why don't you just re-download them from the Market into your wife's account?

I did this exact same thing. Found a thread in a droid phone thread, which I can’t find now, that made sense. Here is what I learned/ did.
I used root explorer, but I believe the original process used ES file explorer. The information for your accounts are stored in /data/system/accounts.db somehow you need to edit that file. I moved it with root explorer to my SD card and then edited it on my ubuntu system and used a program called SQLite Database Browser to edit it. If you search “SQLite editor”, you will find results for programs that might work with your computer OS. All you need to do is delete the com.google record in account.db, place the file back in /data/system/ folder and then run the android market app again. When you start the market, it will ask you for your account information and create a new entry in the accounts.db file.
The original process I followed also said to just delete that accounts.db file. This is not advised because it will also remove your BN accounts also, which also removes your access to BN marketplace with no way to replace it on the NT. (if that might be important to you) I did this and had to restore to factory and reregister to get it working again.

On a device that costs $250? So don't have two accounts then. You're only licenced to run applications on one account. Trying to bypass that rule is tantamount to piracy.

I currently have an Android Phone and have rooted my Nook Tablet, but whenever I download an app from the market, it ends up on my phone instead. How do I get the apps to my Nook?

I don't think so. If you have multiple devices on the same account, even the market website let's you select which device you want to install to. I have my normal gmail, then a "family" gmail that I purchase apps to and use on all of the devices in my family and just set it to not sync email, contacts etc. I'm not getting a nook tablet until Friday, but if there is a an equivilent to the menu button you can choose from the market which account you want to install and purchase apps from if you have more than one google account on your device. If not, you probably can push it to the tablet from the market website.

That would be fine. As long as the account is linked to the device, then the licensing agreement has not been violated. The issue would arise with attempting to extract and APK or circumvent the account-license restriction.
I'll read more about the EULA for Google Accounts and the Android Market specifically tomorrow. But, it should be mentioned that most paid apps have their own licensing contracts, which you agree to when you run the app for the first time.

Yes, key phrase in my original post was "I used to use android devices." This NT is the only android family we have now. So, no, not illegal...just trying to figure out a way to access the apps i've paid for but no longer use since i no longer use an Android device.

Was able to get this done last night...awesome.
I mainly plan to use my NT as a reader, but I am interested in adding Kindle / Amazon App Store / Android Marketplace just to have the access. I've been successful except for 1 thing.
I'm not interested in a special launcher as 90% of my activity is going to be straight from the NT home page. What I'm wanting to do is put shortcuts to the third party apps on the stock NT home page. Before you say it, YES I've read the FAQ.
The FAQ directs me to get "Nook Color App Manager" from the Android Marketplace. 2 questions:
1 - Android market won't let me D/L anything. I login fine with my Google account info, but it tells me there are no Android phones associated with my login and refuses the download. I can see the app on the screen, but can't get it. How do I get around that since I don't have an Android phone??
2 - I've read that with the newer versions, the app manager isn't going to allow me to put shortcuts on my home screen anyway. Can someone confirm or deny if this functionality still works? I'm on rooted 1.4.0 by the way.

Try clearing the data and cache for the market in app management. That should get it to show up.

Not sure I understand what you're htelling me. Clearing the cache should get WHAT to show up?? Market won't let me download it. Tells me there is no phone associated with my google account.

I believe clearing data & cache in the Market app will force your NT to re-associate with Android Market.
I believe that is one of your aims.
It didnt work. I'm logged into the Android market through the web browser and my gmail account. Is that right, or is there a standalone app for the NT? When i click the web d/l link on the app I want, a popup comes that says something to the effect of "there is no Android phone associated with this account. Please sign in with another account."
Does that make sense?

It would assist others in helping you if you would differentiate between using the NT or your PC. (Both platforms have browsers and can access a Google account.)
There is a stand alone app for your device "Android Market". I believe it comes in the gApps package when using Indirect's root method.

Depends on if you are using the "Market" app or a web browser.
OK. I think I got it now. I don't like having alot of extra "stuff" on my NT, so I only used the root script to do the root and declined everything else. i went back and let the Gapps install, and it seems to be working now. Sorry for not be clearer in my original question, but all is well now.

Over the years I have acquired, bought and tried numerous applciations.
A side effect of this is that I now have far too many apps assocaited with my accounts - majority of which I no longer require and nor have any intention of ever using.
Does anyone know how I can remove apps from my account so that they are no longer listed under market/play. This goes for paid apps as well. I just no longer what to see these apps anymore

At this time, there is no way to permanently delete or remove apps from the Google Play website (My Orders/My Android Apps) or from the Google Play Store app (My Apps) that you’ve previously downloaded but have since uninstalled.

Does the developer of an App have the ability to force (push) changes - whether requested updates, paid or free - to the phone?
I need to know how much control other parties have over the phone I own, think Carrier IQ as an example of what your phone can do that you may be unaware of

It depends, if you set/ clicked the auto update feature of the particular software for example adobe reader it will push automatic update (can be checked when you log into your Google play launcher>my apps>Click the app you want to check status). Other than that it remains into the manual update status which will notify you every time you are online by your phone.

Is there a way to see all the apps I've ever bought on Play? I can find a list of every app I've ever installed on any device, but this is ridiculously long, and has no filtering options.
You could check your Google Wallet Account to see which apps you've already paid for.

In the "Transactions" section, only purchases are shown (nothing free).

That's not a simple question as it's only partially on the device and partially online. I'm curious what you are even trying to do since most paid apps can be downloaded as an apk anyway.

Oh, I'm actually not sure lol. But I assume it's encrypted or extremely well hidden and buried, just in case user gets a virus or malware it's gotta be unreachable by normal standards. Otherwise Google would not be very secure. Your balance would be on the Google server I'm sure.
