Wi-Fi connected, yet not. - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

So I've had this problem before, but I can't remember what I did to fix it (or if it just went away). My Player 3.6 (U.S.) will connect to my Wi-Fi, but not all apps seem to get access. I can go to a website using Dolphin browser, Dropbox will connect, but Google Play says there's no network connection, Play Music won't connect, either. I've tried altering Wi-Fi settings, I've tried using my phone's hotspot to rule out router issues, and I've cleared data for play store and Google Play Services. This is frustrating as hell. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Did you freeze anything? This happened (Google Play) to me as well, and it was because I froze something in TBU. Once I unfroze it, it was able to connect.

No freezing. Not even rooted. Maybe THAT'S my problem

-Is your time/date set correctly? Apparently, this is one of the MAIN problems that causes the error to happen.
-Try deleting and reinstall it.
-Try factory resetting your phone.
-Try clearing the data/cache.

It was the date/time being incorrect. Setting those fixed it. Thank you very much.

Youtube app, "Connection to server lost."

Hi there,
First time poster - So, "Hey guys!"
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 (Hence the post in this sub-forum,) running on Cyanogenmod 9 (10/04) nightly.
For quite some time, i've had issues with loading videos from the youtube application on my mobile network. Wifi works perfectly fine.
Whenever I go to load a video, it always comes up with, "Connection to server lost, touch to retry."
I'm able to bypass this, by enabling HQ (On or off) and the video loads perfectly.
However, this is only a work around - The issue still remains. It's quite annoying, as It's worked once or twice in the past (This was when I was running stock, without root.)
I've tried everything I can think of. (Reflashing to stock (Rom and kernel,) rebooting, fixing permissions, clearing dalvik cache etc, etc, etc...)
I searched for this exact issue all night last night, and half the day today at work - All to no avail.
Does ANYBODY have the same issue and or know about fixing it?
Many thanks,
Josh
Uninstall ur youtube and install again from play store. Or try to remove google account and re-enter ur account.
I am having the same problems.
Does this not have something to do with the 4.0.4 data problem that has been reported?
Reinstalling youtube doesn't help me.

just refresh it a couple of times .. works for me
OK I messed about with different ROM versions and nothing happened even after a factory reset.
Also updating youtube didn't work.
However I have just installed the latest build 31 of Team Kang and installed an older gapps package from Feb 12 (instead of the Mar 12 package).
Youtube then updated itself automatically on reboot and now works fine off wifi.
It didn't have anything to do with 4.0.4. I stand corrected.

I have a Galaxy S2 running CM9RC1 and I'm having exactly the same problem. I've tried GApps packages signed from March and April to no avail.
YouTube's mobile site works fine. The YouTube app works fine over WiFi. It fails to load any videos when I'm connected using 3G though and returns the error above.
I've tried a factory reset, cleared cache, uninstalled/reinstalled the YouTube app, tried enabling/disabling HD from within the YouTube app, tried a number of different APNs, selected/deselected the option to preload videos, ensured my flash player is up to date, reflashed CM9 and reinstalled GApps. I've been Googling a couple of hours now and I'm beginning to lose the will to live! :crying:
Everything worked fine prior to me rooting my phone and flashing CM9. I was originally running the official Vodafone UK ICS rom.
I'm beginning to lose faith that I'll be able to fix the problem so would appreciate any suggestions?
TIA,
Bob.
Edit: Well no sooner have I posted that I think I've managed to crack it. I navigated to Settings > Location Services > GPS Source, and noticed that the radio button to use the internal GPS wasn't depressed. I selected it, backed out and now things seem to be OK.

I'm having the same problem. My GPS Source was also unselected but selecting it hasn't made any change to the situation. I'm not sure how GPS can effect Youtube performance?
I've had the same issue with youtube on both my Epic Touch 4G (Galaxy S2) and Nexus 7 device.....but only at my house. Youtube works perfectly elsewhere. Can it be something with my home wifi network? The nexus 7 is wifi only and I have never been able to get youtube to work at my house but it works when connected to other wifi networks elsewhere. Also, my mother-in-law is visiting this week and her kindle fire will not play youtube while in our house, getting the same "Connection to server lost, touch to retry" error message.
All signs point to something being up with the wifi network but I don't know how to solve this issue.
Wound up being Comcast's throttled DNS. All good now.

Try looking at the apn you are on in your settings. Mine was on EPHRD. Moved it ti LTE and now you tube is working again.
I have the SGN2 WITH SPRINT.
disable "restrict background data" from data usage. or if you have any firewall apps disable it then try. hope it will work for you as like me.
sorry for my bad english

Pandora not loading

Hello all, not sure if any of you have had a similar problem playing pandora over 3g. I load the app, it connects to my account, finds a song to play but gets stuck trying to load it. It just says loading, and after about 20 seconds it'll forget about the song and try to play the next one and the cycle repeats. I tried over wifi and it worked fine.
Things I tried already after googling this problem: Cleared the apps data, uninstalled and reinstalled the app, tried the streaming media fix to bypass sprint proxies, and tried another rom for the hell of it.
I do not have a data limit in place as I have unlimited data. Roaming is enabled, and it has full bars and says connected using 3g.
Does anyone have any ideas I could try? I really like listening to pandora on my way into work.
Yeah it's been a problem for lots of folks.
To resolve it for my self go into,
Settings, mobile networks, Network mode, and select CDMA only.
You are most likely set to CDMA/LTE as that is what the phone goes to after a PRL/profile update. Well at least for me it does.
I've tried the newest Pandora app and a bunch of older ones and it would still do the buffer thing until I changed my settings.
Hope that helps,
Naters

Edit, worked for a couple minutes and now its back to doing the same thing :/ Thanks for the input though.
1.5.1 based is the only one working for me

3G re-enables itself on Jellybean

I've tried several Jellybean builds (CheckROM, Wanamlite, Omega) and have the same problem with all of them. Whenever I turn off 3G data it re-enables itself within a few minutes. Has anyone else had this problem with JB?
Most likely it is a problem with some of the installed by you soft wghich tires to connect to network.

What's the best of identifying which app might be causing it??
If your phone is rooted, it is simple: install DroidWall from market
I'm running Omega v31 since Indie released it. No problem so far.. Same when I was on CheckROM before.
Did you do a full wipe before installing the ROMs?

Yes I did a wipe/delete cache/delete Dalvik cache before installing each ROM.
I installed Droidwall and denied 3G access to ALL apps, but still something is switching on my data service within an hour of me disabling it.
???
I never met the app which turned firewall of by itself....
Last resort: install Titanium Backup, and by freezing one by one check which one causes this.
Must it be an app that's trying to access 3G, or is the o/s enabling 3G for some reason??
If you have set software check, it may, but I doubt it.
From system apps - I'd look into news daemon, stock daemon, account sync, weather update and similar.
Surely the question isn't which app is attempting to use 3G, but why it is able to turn 3G on when I've explicitly disabled it? If I turn 3G off should it prevent any app from using it??
Usually no, BUT:
- some apps can have root access;
- some apps can have "strange" permissions, especially if taken from... not 100% trustworthy source.
One more what can help to diagnose: Permissions Denied from Play, can verify app-by-app which one will have permission to access network.
Personally, what I'd do:
- install Titanium Backup;
- backup all apps;
- freeze system apps (Stock Daemon, news daemon, FB, YT, SamsungUNA, push etc)
- look if the situation persists, if not - I'd try to unfreeze sys apps one by one, and then restore my apps.
I'm using Onavo Count to monitor for data usage and it's showing that only "Google Services" and "Google Account Manager" have used any data since the last reboot. Since both of those are pretty central to the Android experience I'm now stumped. I can't disable them, but why/how are they overriding my settings and starting up 3G when I've explicitly chosen to disable it??
Hmmm... by the accident - do you have auto sync left in the settings?

Sync is switched on for Gmail only, but even this shouldn't be able to enable 3G when I've turned off 3G???
Same problem...
I have the same problem, since I updated to jellybean - the mobile data just switches itself back on even though I have manually disabled it.
I have the stock software, sorry, haven't had the guts to flash it yet
Anybody find an answer?
Thanks in advance

Have you checked in Settings>Data Usage>Mobile Data was unchecked after switch off the mobile data from notification? It could be either that or auto sync that force mobile data to switch on. Try to turn off mobile data and turn on auto sync, then see in an hour if there's any effect.
Because if stock (non-rooted) also have same problem, it should be something in the settings..
Anyway, mine doesn't have any problem like this..
try this
u may try this ....like press *#*#4636#*#* and the goto phone information the select the type of network u want..
btw this works for many of the devices....on any version of android

[Q] Google Play is not working.

Hello there, I currently encounter a very annoying problem with Google Play, of which solution is nowhere to be found:
1. Using stock ROM, Google Play becomes extremely slow and most of the time not working at all (Network error), while other applications still work well.
2. Everytime I factory reset, it works for about 5 minutes at reasonable speed, then the same problem occurs again.
3. Tried to reverse back to 4.1.1 but nothing changes.
4. Same problem with different WIFI networks and 3G.
5. Jelly Bam (haven't tried other ROMs yet but I believe they would) fixed the problem completely, but its lack of Samsung Apps and other amazing features (like Smart Stay, S Voice, S Note, ...) quickly made me reverse to stock ROM.
After trying every trick found on the internet (reinstall Google Play, clear the cache,...) with no success, and after two days struggling I am now completely exhausted defeated. My only hope is you guys who have had this problem before could help me fix it.
Thanks a trillion.
I recently had a lot of problem signing in, it turned out for some reason my WiFi and phone didn't want to play game with wpa2 but after changing router to just wpa and resetting all working again, I've seen intermittent reports along similar lines sporadically ever since s3 release

Yes, I did, soneone suggested 0.0.0.0:8080 but that blocks internet connection to all other applications.
I've discovered that uninstalling Google Play updates will help, but only for 5 minutes or so. After which time the problem persists again.
Now my only solution is to uninstall Google Play updates, (then the app will ask for updating at first run), install some apps as quickly as possible before the connection goes down again. Basically I have to repeat that process every second app downloaded, and that drives me insane!!!

That's interesting but in my case even 3G won't work, and the madness is that Google Play works crazily well in custom ROMs like Jelly Bam and like sh*t in stock ROMs.

I feel the pain, took me 10 days to finally get mine working, I did everything you did multiple times, exact same scenario, uninstall updates, get a connection, next time I go back to it,bam, no connection, tried different Roms, flashed to stock, everything!
I had something similar.
What I did was adding a second Google account, deleting the first one, log in, adding the first account back, then deleting the second account, and log in again.
Works for me hoops it's working for you.

Play store not working on WiFi but works on cellular, problem

Hello I got a problem yesterday.
My play store won't logg in when I'm connected to a WiFi. But it works on the cellular connection.
I tried the following that I found online.
Wiping data, etc from the app.
Disabling it and restarting the app.
Same and restarting phone.
Changing the date and time
Changing it back to auto
Forgetting the WiFi and adding it again
I tried modifying he hosts file
Flash the gapps all over again.
Nothing helps, and I think some other Google services isn't working properly either.
I tried disabling juicedefender and adblock plus, the only two things I suspected, but nothing.
Any ideas? This is crippling my phone [emoji53]

Okey, this is what you need to do if you get the playstore problem. With adblock and adaway.
You need to be rooted.
Download hosts editor and add

Is this your own wi-fi, or are you using a hotspot provided by a restaurant, supermarket, Kinkos, etc? Hotspots from places like this often require you to "log in". If this is the case, you need to load a browser and try going to a page, and you'll be directed to their own page, where you'll have to accept their terms and conditions in some manner, then you'll be good to go with Play Store and whatever else.
