I'm on the Community Rom V1.3 (flashed kernel in the v1.2 patch) and am having problems with my music quality. Any time I run anything or touch the screen while listening to music (via Pandora or my music app) the quality is poor. The music has a "popping", "skipping" or "staticy" sound.
I've attempted to flash older kernels as some have said it's an issue with Voodoo Kernel Version 8. Older kernels did not help.
I also, via Voltage Controll App, attempted to switch to CFQ and BFQ scheduler. That did not help either.
Has anyone experienced this issue? Perhaps there are other resolutions?

The typical hack, work around for latency problems is basically not slowing down whenever possible. eg, disable the minimum 100MHz state, if that is not enough then disable 200MHz also.

Are you disabling your overclock back to default 1000MHz? Or are you speeding up the phone by removing 100MHz and/or 200MHz states?

The latter. I am pulling up the "States" tab at the bottom of the home screen and unchecking (or removing) the 100MHz, 200MHz, etc. boxes.

Ok there's one more thing you can try improving latency response, but make sure you are already had other latency dependent parameters corrected (CFQ only, no more or less than 5 freq states being used, removing bottom 100MHz).
Install this -> https://market.android.com/details?id=com.sdincrease.it
Use it to change your cache setting to find the setting most optimal in reducing crackles and pops. Note - too little does nothing, too BIG or too HUGE can exaggerate latency problems.

I was on comm rom playing with its latency until version 1.2 then I switched to Evil Fascinate 3.51 because it was easier on my eyes. Why don't you try it? There's zero skips, crackles, pops in anything I play.
What scheduler are you running? Have you tried changing it?
Have you undervolted at all? Try going back to stock voltages.
As a last resort, try flashing a different kernel into your setup (such as PB&J or JTs) and see if the problem persists.

I was having the same issue, but now it's gone. Make sure you have the latest voodoo control app from the market.
There's another thread on this popping issue where the op had been in touch with supercurio and shared a partial fix, I suspect it's been updated since I last looked.

That was my thread. It's called sound popping in the General thread. I just reverted to DL09 and OTA to EA28 and to ED03 to try to fix signal issues by esn swapping. On this stock rom, I still here popping but its not nearly as prevalent and doesn't occur when I touch the screen. Supercurio mentioned that the sound drivers were poorly implemented on Froyo kernels so it might take awhile for this to be addressed.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
I had this problem, and after tons of testing i have found that the ONLY way to fix it is by doing the full eb01 odin. Odining to eb01 gets rid of this completely. DL09 may work (i havent checked), but after doing the update.zip to ed01 it always comes back.

skindler24, did you recently experiment with CM7 from kaos or jt? I'm not sure what's going on here, but thefunkbot's post that a "full odin" fixed it for him is similar to my experience (although I reverted to di01 to initiate an OTA update, not a full EB01 as shared by thefunkbot). Check out zacisblack's thread in Fascinate General for more details.
Perhaps some developer here with more knowledge than I could consider why an issue like this that seems to affect multiple kernels and roms might be (inadvertently) eradicated by a repartitioning / full odin reflash.
good luck with it...

Hi guys! I have 2 topics and some questions about it, so here we go!
I am on stock firmware (XXBLFB), unbranded and rooted with CF-root, stock kernel as well.
1. How to control the CPU on the SGSIII?
Wake up from sleep is pretty long compared to other phones, usually takes 1-2secs. I guess thats because of the slow scaling of the CPU?
Plus, i've run CPU spy for a few days to see what clocks are used most and found out that the phone often uses 800mhz when its awake. In 2nd place is 500mhz, and only 3rd place is 1400mhz. I guess that results in the lags i sometimes experience when swiping the homescreens. Sometimes its 100% smooth (1,4ghz) but when i swipe really fast or after exiting an app it lags around (guess thats when the cpu is only on 800mhz). Note that I have energy saving turned off!
So what i'm looking for is a Kernel and an app or script that controls the governor (also what governor would solve my issues, on my DHD i usually used ondemand or smartass, are they available on the SGSIII?) and clockspeed (i wanna try how the phone performs with 1.2ghz).
I heard Siyah kernel does this pretty well?
2. So my 2nd question is, how will the phone behave when an OTA comes around and i have it rooted/modified? I changed some sound files, and lets asume kernel/cpu settings.
-Would i be able to still get OTAs?
-Would i run into any problems or will the modified files just be overwritten with the new ones?
-Would i still be able to reroot my phone after upgrading or should i use OTA root keeper?
Thx in advance and keep on rocking

1. Yup, you can try siyah for both cpu amd gpu control
2. You probably might not get ota if you are running custom roms or kernel unless the rom supports it..you mostly will have to update manually via odin.. modified files will be overwritten.. amd yes you can reroot your phone using cf root again..or you can flash the new stock firmware via mobile odin which allows you to keep root even after flashing by keeping everoot option ticked

Thx for your answer
so as long as i stay on stock rom/kernel i should be fine for OTAs, no matter what i modify in the stock rom? I mean stuff like sound files or Framework mods or CRT animations?
No OTA if custom /rooted .
Why use official updates join XDA and flash stock before OTA arrives .

I recently got android 4.0.4 for my phone. I used this link: http://www.arulraj.net/2012/07/upgrade-samsung-galaxy-5-to-ice-cream-sandwich.html The problem is that my phone is extremely slow and many apps just force close on start. How can i speed up my phone? I was researching this problem and many ppl said something about kernels. Should I get that for my phone and how will it help? Also, what apps help make it faster and what else can i do to make my phone faster?Btw the phone is rooted.

Don't touch the kernel if you are inexperienced in such things you will just screw the rom up... go into developement settings and overclock your cpu to 768mhz for a start. governer... smartass v2 should be fine. use a task manager to kill background apps etc. there are many things you can do but remember that 4.0 has higher requirements than our phone has so performance will always be an issue... if u want have a look into swap partitions, cpu overclocking, cpu governers, I/O Schedulers, Caching etc... there is so much to tweaking performance to get the most out of your device
When I stop apps that r running, they just come back within 5 seconds. Also, i am already at 768mhz. 768 mhz has made it a little faster, but some apps wont launch and just stop when i launch them. Is there a way to get them to work?

I really would suggest you change roms mate, either CyanogenMod 7.2 or 10.1
10.1 is Android 4.2 and 7.2 is 2.3.7
naturally 7.2 is fastest and most stable.
But why is it that some apps work and others dont?
How about increasing the ram? Can I do that?
Will this work? http://www.droidiser.com/2012/05/how-to-increase-internal-memory-and-ram.html

You cannot increase the RAM like in a computer as it is attached to the motherboard directly. That link describes using a swap partition on the sd that acts kind of like ram but it is not ram itself, it is slower than ram and less efficent however swap can be useful. I have tried swap and noticed no real difference in performance at all but you could sure try it... just remember to enable swap in the cyanogenmod settings otherwise the partition will do nothing and u lose valuable sd card space

sorry about my english
Use seeder app set to aggresive, no need to oc just set gov to performance. If you not use any ramscript use romtool box go to memory manager try optimum preset. And also go to sd booster to boost your sd speed cache.
That's all Regards

Honestly, make an effort to purchase a new phone. I've had a i5000 foir almost a year and sometimes I almost went crazy due to its slowness.
You can try using a (fast) sdcard as supplementary memory, but it will be still slow. And no way to use a CyanogenMod later than 7.2. Stick with this at minimum.
But you can find really good bargains at ebay. Please consider it.
After carefully following the flash guide by droidstyle posted here: Guide: Installing a Rom/CWM Recovery/Root or Going Back to Stock, I was able to load the Super Nexus ROM successfully and fix any minor quibbles I had with apps, settings, etc.
However, there is one error that I can not fix, and it's this battery glitch:

You are right. I have just tried Hellybean and can report that it works perfectly fine with this battery animation.
However, Hellybean presents its own problem and that is with music playback: Left on *all default* settings, this ROM will make the mp3 files stored on my SD card skip or "pop." Trying a different player doesn't help either.
What *does* seem to make a difference is using a few of the "Performance" options listed under this ROM. Setting the CPU Governor to "Smartassv2" and enabling some of the memory options have greatly reduced the occurrence of this random skipping/popping noise.
Still, I'm disappointed that glitches like this go unreported. Stock Gingerbread never had such issues...

With Hellybean, I have an overclock set up to 1.3 GHz using the Lulzactive governor and the Zen I/O scheduler. I have only had skipping issues when locking the screen, and even then skipping is rare on my end. Try my settings and see how it goes.
Stock gingerbread never had those issues for you, eh? Well skipping was really bad on eh03 for me. In any situation, any music player, it would skip really often. Also, I had skipping issues in cm10.1. The built in kernel is not that good on that ROM.

I'll start off by saying I basically bought the surnia Moto E 2015 (xt1526) specifically for an affordable way to play Pokemon Go. When it's working it works quite well but when in very high particle effect situations such as Battling or Evolving Pokemon it will start to get very hot and then eventually the frame rate will drop and sometimes the app will crash. I've tried a few different ROMs (Cyanogenmod 13, ResurrectionRemix, Cypher) and all seem to have the same issue. The only Kernel I've tried so far are stock and Squid Kernel.
That being said though I've had some experience tweaking and trying to optimize phones for normal app and multitasking usage but I've no experience at all trying to optimize for gaming. If anyone has gotten this particular phone to run optimally without crashes etc while gaming would you kindly suggest the Kernel, Roms and/or settings I should use for doing so? I've seen that were some good gaming ROM's for otus but those seem to have not been brought over to the surnia.
TLDR: surnia xt1526 overheats plummets in FPS and crashes while battling in Pokemon Go, any help appreciated
Update: After trying many different suggestions though I'm sure they did help out others they did not work for me. My phone's GPU was overheating up to 62 degrees sometimes in particular while many people seemed to be tweaking their CPU's mine was still overheating and crashing with those tweaks.
So this is probably a YMMV thing but what finally worked for me was installing a kernel that had some good GPU tweaks and the one I found best so far has been Inazuma R5 it actually has the GPU's lowest setting underclocked to 100mhz, with 400mhz still being the max and also makes use of adreno idler to keep the GPU cooler.
So if you've been having these issues I'd suggest opening up Kernel Adiutor after your phone starts crashing and overheating and taking note of the temperatures. If it's your GPU look for a kernel with adreno idler. If it's CPU then you can go with some of the other suggestions below.
Edit: I want to be clear that this is mainly only a problem with BATTLE after 30-60 consecutive minutes in Pokemon Go (sometimes also with mass evolution because of the heavy animation effects during evolution) So please specify, if you could, whether or not you've had a stable battling experience for extended periods of time.
Ive been using CM13 and squid kernel r16g and had been experiencing lags in pokemon go until i tried out some settings in kernel auditor. In kernel auditor under the tab low memory killer scroll down and select 'very light' and disable adaptive low memory killer(the first option in the 'low memory killer' tab) and now switch the tab to 'virtual memory' and scroll down to the last option and set the memory limit to around 460-480mb. Now under the tab 'cpu-plug' disable the intelliplug switch and there will be an option called as touch to boost, you just gotta enable that(this option is a major player in making the game to perform well). So just try this and see if this works, it worked very well for, i hope it does the same for you.
P.S. This may cause your battery to drain more as you set ur phone to perform more, So after you finish playing the game set it to default.

A friend of mine tried playing this on stock ROM, frame drops lags and crashes all the way.
Havent quite used the stock rom lately....just been flashing roms quite frequently, so can't really say abt the performance of this game in stock And yes, a must try ROM recommendation for all you guys, playing pokemon go, wud be slim rom. Flashed Slim rom yesterday and found it to be light weighted ROM compared to many other roms n that too without a custom kernel. I tried playing pokemon go while in Slim and it worked just fine without lags or crashes. The only thing is that Slim is based on AOSP/CAF so features r limited unlike other roms.
it works fine on mine phone with stock 6.0 and squid kernel, I think that your lags are caused by ram hungry apps in background

I don't know I'm not really running much in the background just Gmail and Telegram, as I'm playing more and more it seems like it starts to overheat then starts lagging after doing battles for about 20mins straight. I have to put it in front of a fan and let it cool off before I can do battles again. So I think it's just a hardware issue. Unless anyone else has been able to do battles for more than 30mins without running in to lag and crashing
