[Q] Iphone 4S > Rezound? - HTC Rezound

sorry for a possibly stupid question.
Im looking for bang for buck Android Verizon 4g, rezound looks like a clear winner!?
At $60-$100 on ebay + extended battery $30-$40
Read-on for more details on how i came to this conclusion
Im shopping on verizon and was gonna get the HTC ONE tomorrow.... #@$% that!!! sick of waiting and even when/if it launch's its not worth the $200/2year contract big reds gonna charge.... sorry for rant
My situation is this, im moving too Kansas city and the 3g for some reason is super slow!!! my friends iphone 5 was blazing fast! so i sold my 4s for for $290 and decided to move to android finally!!!
so... htc dna $350 used, Droid razr maxx hd $300 used, droid razr m $150 used, incredible 4g $110 used,
phonearena com/phones/compare/HTC-Rezound,Motorola-DROID-RAZR-M,HTC-DROID-Incredible-4G-LTE/phones/5799,7346,7043
Given my situation it looks like a rezound with extended battery would be balls to the wall for the price. or is there something im missing? is there a flaw with rezound other then the battery?

No flaws at all but I would go for the DNA . my friend won't stop bragging about his (I'm so jealous). The extended battery for the rez is really bulky and you won't be able to find a good phone case for it and with the extended battery, the extended battery back door has known issues such as weak signal. Also they have the sexy sense 5 going on for the DNA

O I would love a DNA! but verizion is still charging $200w/2year for it and there $350 used... might as well hold out for the HTC ONE if I was to go that route.
what about just having 2 normal size batterys?

Skip over the rezound and get something better. Not a 4S though.

I'd have to check, but I thought I saw the DNA at best buy for 50 on contract.

sweet! I might go that route, thx mate.

I just bought a used Rezound for $90 with a bunch of extras including the extended battery and beats headphones.
I'll hold out tell some sweet stuff starts rolling out again before jumping into a 2 year.
other then front facing speakers the HTC one isnt much different then the DNA.
HTC has to be coming out with something either more powerful or with amazing battery life.
Also I think HTC should adopt the Tick-Tock structure thats worked so well for Intel.... atleast it worked tell they dropped the ball and took forever gearing up for mobile support

Forgive me brothers for I have sinned

A customer gave me their old blackberry 8520 and I have been using it for about a week and a half and hardly miss android or my Amaze.
Im sure its just that its something new to play with and it will wear off, but sometimes its nice to have a tool and not a toy

you want to sell your amaze? i might buy if its in good condition and the price is right
I took it off the charger monday night and I am at 50% so yeah its pretty awesome.
I think Ill keep my Amaze and wait to see what the warenty replacement becomes for this older BB.
It may not have all the games and what not but as far as talk, text and emails its pretty nice, just wish it wasnt a pinkish red color lol
I can honestly say the only thing I miss about BB is battery life. I should get out of work with 80-85% battery, with my amaze I get out of work and it'll be around 25% equal usage =[

had a bb 8300 when they first dropped, loved that phone. now i regularly cheat on my amaze with my mytouch running the goodness known as MIUI
I sometimes go back to my 9700. Miss battery life and I don't care what anyone tells me, the physical keyboard is just better and I am pretty fast and accurate on my Amaze or mytouch4G.

BB curve 8900 was one of my favorite phones ever... If it had the bold 9000s radio capability it would have been the perfect phone. Haven't messed with bb since the original bold... Disliked it that much. The curve would be fun to go back and play with it. I never hacked one (moto cliq xt was first hack as test before rooting mt4g)
Btw... HATED THE 8520.. cheaply built feel, slow data, and I HATED the buttons compared to 8900.

This seems to be the Ferrari vs. Lamborghini question.
Sent From My S-OFFed, R00ted, 100% Tricked-Out HTC Evo 4G LTE via XDA Premium!
Coming from someone who just created one of these threads two days ago...here's some advice.
I had the of evo 4g....then the evo 3d....and now I just moved to the Samsung. I don't know yet if I made the right choice but I know that the LTE didn't feel like the right choice either.
Asking these kinds of questions will always give you biased reviews. In the evo forum it stands to reason you'll get plenty of support for the evo. In the galaxy forum you will get support for the galaxy.
Look in both. Do what I did and look at the general ans q&a sections for both, see what the issues and comments seem to be.
My deal killer with the lte was the lack of removable battery. The next big thing were all the sense problems I kept reading about. My wife likes sense and the stock look, so I need stability in the stock setup for her...even if it means switching from sense, which I never used anyway.
Good luck with your decision. It stressed me out a lot because I live on my phone and I've been with htc for so long...but it didn't feel right this time. Maybe when that rumored superphone comes out things will change...

Except the non-removable battery. I personally don't care, but apparently some people drain three batteries a day. That would be a legitimate deal breaker for some. However, OP, the battery life is outstanding so don't be put off by this unless you are the type who streams music 12 hours a day and switches batteries regularly.

I would say go with the s3 since your used to touch wiz ,even though the screen is saturated and pentile, the 1280x720hd reso helps that. Personally I have the EVO 4g LTE,its rooted and I love it to death. I don't see how a device this fast with just 2000mah could have such amazing battery life.the sgs3 should have even better battery life with that samoled screen.

I'm so used to bringing my charger to work even till this day and I still don't use it. My og evo & evo3d had crap battery life even with a bigger battery. Non removable battery isn't a concern anymore. Atleast for me
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
They are both the same technically hardware wise its more of a personell opinion I had the s3 felt like a piece of plastic in my hand, the lte felt like how a phone should be solid yet light weight plus I live the dedicated camera button and I love showing off how many pics i can take and still be crystal clear ,plus the s3 screen is way to saturated for my eyes, when I play on my bros phone its like I'm playing halo haha and when I go back to my phone its like real life haha---my opinion
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
I think they are both very good phones. Also, you can always get roms installed, so talking about software is pointless. The one thing that I really prefer about the evo over the s3 is the lack of physical home button. That's a button you use a lot throughout the day, so there's a chance the s3's home button will get wonky down the road. That's my feeling, since I experienced issues with the home button on my old iphone 4 two months before my contract ended. So the decision was easy for me, as I didn't want to experience issues with a home button again.
I've got the 4G LTE. So far I've liked it but if I had the chance to do it over I would get a SGIII. I've had some annoying things happen to my LTE and although I love the beautiful screen I have a feeling I wouldn't have had those problems with the SGIII. The two main problems I've had are that the phone actually bent one day while in my pocket. It was minor and I bent it back straight but I think the upper portion of the phone above the kickstand is a major weak zone in the Aluminum unibody. My other issue is that the camera broke and I'm in the process of shipping it back to HTC for warranty repair. So at this point after owning the phone for 9 weeks I don't have much faith that the repaired product won't suffer same fate.

HTC One

How does everyone feel about this device? I'm a year away from an upgrade so I won't be getting it, that and its not on Verizon. I really love the look of the phone, and I like Sense, just not that new UI screen.

After the Rezound I'm officially done with HTC for good, if it want for the developer community we (luckily) have I would have bought a GNEX off contract. It's not just the Rezz either, from the thunderbolt to the One X and S HTC is consistently lagging behind. Finally and most importantly they diffuse to keep yo with android as a whole, were the years into on screen nav keys and HTC still continues to use causative buttons ( so much more screen room, still on that ugly ass green color when the blue is much more inviting it also clashes with Google apps. It looks like Motorola and sammy have finally stepped it up so that's where I am going.

Samsung has been on the ball the last few phones they have released yes the charge was an abysmal failure but as of late moto and Sammy are leaps and bounds over HTC which is a dam Shame because I love their cameras, radios, screens, and design.

If it's true that a VZW version will drop as the DNA+ in a couple of months, that will be my next phone. Identical specs to the One and it's supposed to have microSd card support as well. Basically, what the DNA should have been in the first place.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
No way. Not doing the ril stuff anymore. Really delays Rom development.
Rezound, s-off, loving it.
Pretty tempted to go with Sammy for the next phone too..ive done the Moto/LG/HTC experiences..guessing its about time for me to join the sheep of the Android world and get a Galaxy (unless the rumored Moto X phone is really something beastly). Hope the SGS4 won't disappoint, not a fan of their design and build quality but hard to be disappointed with their hardware and software. I'll probably still be on the Rez for a bit longer anyway though..VZW will probably lag way behind again in releasing the SGS4, and I hate paying full upgrade pricing when I can wait 2 or 3 months and have the price halved or even better. Still love the Rez in its own right. I never had any real complaints about the Rez (and yes, especially because of the amazing devs we have here) but I hope my next phone is 1. Lighter (it's about the same weight as my old Droid 2 for god's sake) 2. is considerably better on battery life. Camera/reception/screen etc. I think have always been fantastic on this device.
I am VERY curious though to see a battery test on the HTC One..battery seems like it's fairly decent in capacity, but I wonder how much more (if even) that new cpu will get out of it.

I'm not understanding this. HTC is a failing company because they are failing the consumers that were once loyal. My first phone was the DINC and I love that thing, I still love my Rezound as well it's a great phone and I got so much more than with the GNEX and RZR. HTC even began unlocking boot loaders for those who wanted I was really high on my HTC horse but the more and more I hear about the update problems HTC is having while others are moving forward clearly shows that buying a new HTC device is a gamble. I mean the RAZR is getting OFFICIAL JB. Another thing to consider the incredible 4g came out after the Rezound with worse specs and that was it until the DNA came out? They move a step forward them two steps back it makes no sense. I will say however Motorola is also guilty of this in Some ways with the max line just like HTC + lines. Samsung is winning the battle because sadly they are just ding it properly. I hope I see HTC make strides over the year because I will be leaving Verizon sooner rather than later. Pretty sure I'm going to switch to T-MO everything unlimited plan no contacts or carrier chains sounds amazing and new nexus devices whenever I feel like it straight from Google. Sounds like heaven.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
While it sure does look pretty, the inability to upgrade external memory via sd card and untested battery life are so far keeping me from upgrading.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
I wish phone makers and carriers would stop pushing that cloud crap. Only reason phone makers likes it is because they can stop putting a SD slot in save money and then charge the same price. The carriers likes cloud because with no more unlimited plans on many of the carriers. That means more people will run the risk of going over and they can charge outrageous overage fees.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
Non removable battery or if the phone doesn't have more that 32 gigs no sale. I don't believe in the cloud for all my data or my music. I don't like to use the cloud for privacy reasons and it drains my battery faster. Only cloud I use is my own or ssh to my own computer and get files that way. I do like this phone but my rezound experience has been less than stellar. Thinking I'll give Samsung a try on there next phone.

dude a bigger gas tank doesn't solve that at all hahaha you're still getting horrible mielage out of the engine with all that power. just bc you have a 25 gallon tank now doesn't mean you're going to get more than 10mpg lol
everybody cries about battery. i don't care; i carry my backpack with me where i go, which includes a charger, 2 spare batteries, and my 10,000mah external charger. and at home, i've got a 5500mah solar external charger by Joos. to me, battery life isn't a big deal. my DNA got the same/better battery life than my S3 does.

A bit of tact would flatter you, unless you're a teenie bopper, in which case I'll forgive you. You have a point and while the software and hardware has steadily improved in utilizing the batteries, I d still say it's still far from ideal.
I'm glad you don't mind carrying all that extra stuff around but I'd like to be able to rely on the device and the battery that comes with it, rather than having to resort to additional measures.

Get a DNA or hold out for One or DNA 2?

I've got a Galaxy Nexus and it's about time to retire it. I don't know whether to get a DNA or hold out for a One or DNA 2 (or whatever it'll be).
I am due for an upgrade within a month.

I dont think you can go wrong either way honestly. The DNA is a stellar phone. Most people believe it's still on par with the S4 if not better then it. I came form a GNexus and I can honestly say that I would rather have the DNA then suffer another day with that phone. lol. The One is going to be awesome if it ever comes to Verizon but I'm personally tired of the games they're playing about it.
its really up to what you want in the end. they DNA is good enough. the S4 is a bit faster but plastic and has 13 mp cam. the One is premium build quality with 4 ultrapx and a hair slower than the s4...I would recommend the One...i ended up getting a DNA like a couple of weeks before One but am still very happy

Well not officially but I don't know how it couldn't.
I went to the vzw store today and messed with the DNA. IMO it feels a lot like my old original incredible. I like the wireless charging. I really want sense 5, but will the DNA ever get that without rooting?
I really need better battery life too. I've got an OEM 2100 battery on my nexus and barely get through a work day with about 90 minutes of talk time and 90 minutes of screen time. From what I'm reading both the DNA and One get great battery life.

We have sense 5 now from Newt etc and the ROM is MINT IMO, The DNA's batt lasts a full day easily. Now that there is a software hack looming you dont have to worry about sending it off for Jtag as well.

I knew there was a Sense 5 ROM out there by newtoroot, but I am wondering if there will be one that comes OTA from Verizon or HTC.

I believe the DNA one of the devices Sense 5 will be rolling out on. The HTC Butterfly, which is essentially the internation version of the DNA, already has an official Android 4.2/Sense 5.1 leak available.
I wonder how long I'll have to wait if I were to hold out for a One or follow up to the DNA. I sure like the button layout better on the DNA than the One. That home button on the right is stupid IMO.

Depends on what you're paying for the DNA.
The max you should pay is $50 on contract $375 off contract (used).

The vzw store had the DNA for $200 on contract. The cheapest one on swappa is listed at $390.

As mentioned the Butterfly has been confirmed to be getting 4.2.2 and Sense 5. So once the Butterfly gets it then the DNA will get it later on. Rumors are possibly with an OTA as soon as August.

its really up to what you want in the end. they DNA is good enough. the S4 is a bit faster but plastic and has 13 mp cam. the One is premium build quality with 4 ultrapx and a hair slower than the s4...I would recommend the One...i ended up getting a DNA like a couple of weeks before One but am still very happy

The funny part about the one being slower, the s4 snapdragon 600 is overclocked a good amount over the HTC1 and its still only a hair slower shows how HTC > Samsung. Enough said

To add to this, HTC also confirmed that's the next butterfly is coming out 3rd qtr, which means a US version won't be far behind

If you'll be paying Verizon's price, I'd wait out for the One/DNA 2.
Also keep in mind that the DNA has 16gb of memory, while the One comes with 32gb as the base option. I personally would wait a bit longer just for the extra memory.

A "hair slower" is a relative statement. The benchmark differences are exactly what you'd expect from a .2ghz difference, though for real world usage the difference is negligible.
The DNA is great, it's here now, it's marginally different from the One, and it's not very expensive anymore. Especially with the prospect of moonshine S-OFF, which would enable you to get Sense 5 if it doesn't show up in an OTA any time soon, I say go for the DNA.

some info please

Thinking of switching to this phone from the g2x is it as buggy random reboots? Just curious how this phone performs

No it is actually rock stable for stock, and still stable for AOSP. You will be stuck on GB and ICS until we get a developer to build us a kernel for JB Sense. Unless you want Cyanogenmod or AOKP.
Everything performs fast, it's not a HTC One but 1.5ghz is more than fast enough.
Try and get the phone for <180$ if you buy it.
Battery life is ok not bad but not excellent. My custom roms and other people's roms can help with that.
As for dev support we don't have as much as other phones but we are still going somewhere. Sorta.
Hope I helped.

To be honest I wouldn't buy this phone any more, it's too old, and if you look through the forums many people have had bad luck with this phone (bad battery, random reboots, backlight bleed, squeaky back) not saying you will have all these issues, but odds are at least one of these issues will plague you. I was lucky and only had the back light bleed, but my cousin also got this phone on my suggestion and he was plagued with reboots no matter what Rom I tried putting on it, and after a while his started to charge extremely slowly (to the point that it was unusable while charging, as the phone lost charge faster). He ended up selling it and got a sensation. I would recommend you get an HTC one x, which you can get for around 200-210 dollars off swappa and even eBay (I just ordered 3 of them all mint condition with boxes and they costed me 200 on average, one was 175 (but without box), one was 210 and one was 217 but they had the original box. Good luck
I got my girlfriend an HTC one x about 7 months ago (found a great deal on craigslist for 130 dollars, the phone was complete mint with the original box also in mint condition, guess the guy didn't know what his phone was worth) and it truly is a very nice phone. Only gripe would be the storage but if you don't play a lot of games I find 16gb is enough storage for most needs (people argue about their 100gb music library but with Google play music their arguments fail, and who needs to really carry a year's worth of music with them every day...)

I loved my Amaze but I have moved on from it.
The negatives: Button Back light bleed, randon reboots (caused by a bad battery), battery life is not too great, not much accessory support, no JB Kernel, odd ball 11pin micro usb port (still able to use a regular micro usb tho)
Everything else is nice... screen quality, camera, speed, sound... dev support is little but its still kicking.
As for cons only the battery life sucks other than that the phone is great for me well hardware specs wise the phone is really good for the ongoing price comparing to some high priced low spec devices out there, but software wise it's not that good cuz we got stuck in ics, I mean officially.. But we have custom roms so yay

I find it to be a rather pleasing phone honestly. I came from an HTC One V with Virgin Mobile and wanted to try T-Mobile because it was $5 and actually had support for 4G where I live. I looked on Craigslist for a decent T-Mobile phone. I looked at Sensations and almost bought one, but then I stumbled on the Amaze. The way I looked at it, it looked like a Sensation 2.0; faster processor, more RAM, support for 42.2 HSPA+, and more storage. I was originally gonna buy it from a guy for $140, but he dropped it to $120 because his kid threw the case away. I've been using it since about March or April and haven't had a single issue with it, except for the button bleed, but it doesn't really bother me. I can't really say anything on battery since he gave it to me with a 1900 mAH Anker batter, but its been decent. So I guess there's my story of how my Amaze came to be. It's a great phone that I've never even heard of prior to buying it, and my hobby is watching reviews of phones just because. I think these days, you can probably get it for less than $150 easy. I'd say if you care about massive dev support then go with the Sensation, at the expense of a less powerful phone, if not, then go with the Amaze. We may not have the most devs, but the ones we do have are amazing (no pun intended) and extremely dedicated. I hope this helps with your decision.

Very amazing review about amaze but on side note once sports88 (developer) said sensation and amaze have same level of development except for number of roms where sensation is leading.

For button bleed use the mod that kills them, use energy tweaks to disable button lights, or use one of my roms. (All of them have button lights disabled).
