Hi,
When I went into "Input Languages" to add a few languages I needed, I noticed that there are 3 asian-looking languages (chinese, japanese, vietnamese?) that I never asked for. So I tried to delete them but I was not allowed to. I was offered only to delete the languages that I installed myself. I would think that those languages waste a lot of valuable space on my 16G disk. Is there a way to delete them? My phone is rooted.
Thank you,
Igor

Those languages, I believe, are part of Samsung keyboard app. Is it safe to uninstall it? I am using swype anyway.

Click on "Settings" wheel on top. Then
My device -> Language and input -> Samsung keyboard settings -> Input languages
There it shows "Downloaded languages" and "Available languages".
Among downloaded languages there were some that I do not need but could not delete and that's very annoying because, I think, each language takes a few tens of Mbs. Those languages that I myself promoted from "Available" to "Downloaded" can be deleted.
Thank you!

Hello,
How can i extract language settings, fonts, etc (NOT CSC) from specified rom, and place them into another one? Thank you.
Not sure what you mean by language settings but fonts are in "system/fonts"
Just swap them over.

Where this folder is placed? In .tar archive?
By language settings I mean interface and input languages.
I'd like to know too, it would stop me nagging devs to install this-and-that language on their ROMs.
I've searched but never found a tutorial - it may well be beyond me, but I'd love to try.
Edit - forgot my own post... in theory this should work according to someone - will try myself tonight.

This is not exactly what I want. This thread is just talking about the input methods, and I want to get the interface as well.

Did it work?
Would love to have the Nordic keyboard/dictionary back.

Haven't tried it yet - trying to summon up the balls...
Will give it a try tomorrow on some old backups for interest's sake. I'm using Revolution ROM, and all Nordic keyboards are there (presume dansk dictionary is there too, haven't tried, but norsk is there).
Thanks for the hint about Revolution ROM.
I'm now a total convert. LeoMar rules.

Hey guys,
I bought my phone here in Germany, unlocked and it works great. Thing is, I have multiple languages but they all end with Germany or a German speaking country e.g. English (Germany), English (Austria), English (Switzerland).
Can I install additional system languages such as English (Generic), English (UK) and English (Australia)?
Cheers!

Try to download More Locale 2 app from Android Play Store. That will allow you to choose any of the languages. To enable languages, missing on a keyboard, try installing another keyboard (swype, swiftkey....)

As you said "I tried with notepad ++ apps to edit strings.xml & seen black chinese words" did you used the unicode english, if you are just using some fonts than that wont work. only if you use unicode english than that will work, as you said its your Chinese apk, so your computer must also be set in chinese language too, if this is the case you will need unicode english to translate, else you will get same black chinese words.. i hope i have helped you..

you have understood something wrong, i dont mean that your pc must me in chinese.. i was just saying that your pc might be set to chinese. if your computer is set to chinese than you should install english unicode to use while translating the string.xml. have you ever tried to view the xml file in chrome or ie. if you are using unicode than the translated words will look fine else the words will look different.. unicode is a computing industry standard for the consistent encoding which can be read and shown in the way it is written..

First thing first: there is no easy one click app translation method, you have to translate strings one by one. i have attached one sample string.xml. check how is that working i have kept some untranslated parts too, but that not complete.
Second thing: have you tried to open the english translated string.xml in any browser, if the translated part are all ok( as it should be translated) than you have some other problem, if the translated things are not fine and you are getting black chinese word than read further below..
Third thing: its the case if the translated xml is not looking fine in browser. Go to Control Panel and then Region and Language, then go to keyboards and languages tab and add english language and make it default. than open your string.xml file and select one english font to write(better use the default notepad to edit), you can use Lucida Console font and there below also select script, use western as your script than make the translation one by one..
Fourth thing: Nothing!! I hope you have understood everything what i m trying to explain.
EDIT: Attachment file removed!!

Hi, is there any way to change the language of the apps installed on the phone? I mean, H2OS only have Chinese and Enlglish languages, but Whatsapp, Playstore and so on, have plenty. Is there a way to make them show the language I choose instead of system default?
Ty in advance.

I don't think so, unless you decompile (or something like that) the rom and add it manually.
Btw, this should really go into the H2OS thread, not into a new thread, more people will be able to help you if you post it in the right place. :good:

I don't want to change the system language. I want to make apps think that the system language is Spanish, so they are installed on spanish instead of english.

there are apps for this on play store. morelocale or something like that. just set the language and it works
I have a canadian version S9 plus and I want to change the system language (GUI)
I go to General Management-Language and Input-Language and I see the option to add language.
Then I select from the 3 dot menu all languages and I select the language I want
I put my new language first and default.
Now this is where the problem comes.
While all basic icons have changed to my new language my settings is half translated.
Some options are translated to the new language but the most of them are still in english
Does anyone know how to change the settings completely in the new language?

Indeed go to the Samsung store they gonna flash it. Gonna give it a dry later today.
Just ask them what exactly they do. Check your firmware version before and after. Also check what software they use if you can
