Build box / Build server for Android development - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello xda ...
I have a question on how to apply to get a build box for building android. I maintain a few ROMs and develop android for my device the HTC Explorer and plan on further expanding my development a bit more with my tablet the Nexus 7 .. But am struggling with my computer since the past few weeks . Being a student, I am not able to manage the costs of repairing and maintaining my computer as a result of which I am not being able to maintain the Roms for my device. If somebody can help me with this , I would be greatful. thanks for the reply .

Smartphone ROM development

Hi guys, I'm new to this forums so I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this. But since I'm gonna be discussing about an android phone, I guess I'll put it here XD
Anyways, I have an Xperia Neo V and am upgrading my phone soon. I was wondering if anyone had any tutorials or links on how I can code and run custom operating systems on my phone. The thing is, I don't want it to be Android, I want to develop it from ground up, probably with assembly featuring. I've written a couple of tiny OSes on PCs with boot loaders and stuff using ASM but I don't know how to go about this with a smartphone as there are no resources on it.
Just wondering if anyone has any knowledge
Thanks

I am by no means an expert on this subject but first you would have to do is replace the bootloader on your phone with one that would allow you total control over the device which would mean porting something such as u-boot to your device. After that you would have following the porting procedure for whatever operating system you wanted to port.
Thanks for the reply I remember that on my tablet I had to place a uboot.bin file on the SD card before I could boot into CWM and some other stuff. Just wondering, rather than replacing the bootloader, would it be possible to run uboot from the SD card? Also, I was talking about writing an OS from scratch, not porting an existing one XD it's just for educational purposes, so I'd really like to try my hand at things like this
Thanks

[Q] How to port MIUI V5 KitKat to MT692 Octa-Core! No guide helped! Anyone help!

Hi Guys,
After my little stay on XDA and trying messing with many devices of android and bricking few lead to me know about android development.
Anyways, So my point is I am trying to port this MIUI KiKat ROM (MIUI V5 for Elephone P9) which is exactly identical to my device except the NFC and the the CPU frequency thing ( which I don't think matters that much while porting) and my device is XOLO 8x-1000 HIVE
So what I learnt is that devices should have-
Same SoC's, Same display size, Same architecture, Same processors. My device and ELephone has everything same even the internal storage and the RAM i.e. 2GB and mount points are also identical but without NFC so can't call it a clone exactly.
I tried many MIUI guides followed this one so far THE BEST - MIUI PORTING FOR DUMMIES all in vain :/ after flashing my recover.log is totally fine.! After rebooting I see my spalsh screen after that my phone gets stuck at a unresponsive black screen not even showing the boot animation. Funny this is that phone is actually detected by adb and on connecting with PC the storage are also shown but it gives error that please insert storage. I attached the pic at the end of the post so you can have a look at it also when I logcat an endless chain of God knows what continues I can't even get it to read . Can anyone help me porting this MIUI to my device! I really want to want to port MIUI any MediaTek expert in the XDA house willing to help me
Please don't ignore this thread as no solution is yet available. IDK how this guy ported MIUI to his device with same specs as mine. I even contacted him and he said he just follow that guide I linked above ultimate guide of MIUI porting. Anyone please help me as I can see that devices related to mine are actually running MIUI but I can't sadly :'(
Any help would be greatly appreciaited. Any MTK dev around please help Even yuweng sir didn't had much idea what to do.!

Getting Source Codes From Huawei

So, for a month i've been trying to contribute to port CM desprately to my device Huawei y625 .. Snapdragon 200 SoC .. but unfortunately Huawei didn't release the source codes for the device neither on Huawei official site or EMUI site.
And i've been sending E-mails many many times to them to Emuifans and [email protected] .. but no reply anything i can do about that ? .. also was trying to use a CAF kernel but i wasn't able to identify the LCD model .. so i can use a proper display driver.. i really ran out of solutions and i won't be buying a new phone in like a year or more Please any suggestions would be very very appreciated so i can proceed!
and ofcourse all of this would be possible with the help of my fellow friend from LG L Fino forums @christpp he's such an awesome dev. :good: our devices are much similar and has same SoC and he had already ported CM14 for it !
Any contribution would be much loved and appreciated , Thank you !

im confused ... please some help !!

hey everyone, this is my first post here so wish to be welcome from you all friends
i like my phone to be always secure so i tried always to not use the stock rom that contains the Gapps ... and after further searchs i found that thers is many projects that dont even use android as OS and that they use Linux distributions or things like that ... i have a tablet samsung SM-T113 and another one SM-T116 both of them have different processors and both of them are not supported by Lineage OS or another Mobile OS ... so isearched the internet in ways to make a support or to compile a Lineage OS for this Tablets but when i searched about that i was too confused i know that the process is called Porting a device but i could not get it ... i think that all my problems is in providing Drivers of this Tablets that will permit to the OS to talk to the hardware but im too confused about that .. sooo could someone just jumpstart my process and give me a hand and a help in this ... i past too many times in searching and every time im confused more
im using Debian as a OS so im used to Linux and shell scripting ... i know how to program in Python and i know many things in networking ... but when i came to this topic i found my self a noob
sooo wish that i will find a way in XDA ... Thx

NOOB HELP Needed, GT-KING PRO

Hello,
NOOB HELP Needed, GT-KING PRO
First of all Hello & welcome. My names Tony & am a complete noob to android tv ! My family memeber has a rooted/flashed/ported T95 BOX running a rom and has it all !
I have a minor understanding & knowledge of rooting & flashing CFW, which i have done in the past to PSP'S & used flash carts in Ds & Bahsers I am very Intrested in these areas and would like to evovlve my knowledge and use of android tv ! & Phones.
I am very keen to become a fully fledged member of this community & forum/s as of finding such a great site.
I have recently just done some research into android tv boxes, whats on the market, checked some reviews, asked friends etc etc. & have just purchased my first android tv box
After beeing shown and watching, said family members T95 box, I was impresssed !!!! by the roms and its uses, I wasnt too impressed with the boxes performance ! T95 as it seemed a litlle laggy, to say the least
So I done some research & jumped highly into the deep end :crying: of buying a BEELINK GT-KING PRO, android tv box. As it seemed to tick all the boxes of performance, has 1 of the latest chipsets, android firmware, decent gpu and ram. Not to mention saving the expense on needing a airmouse, as it comes with 1. It also has very good reviews. I am HOPING, I made the correct choice in having a customisable box that will perform and do what i want to do with it ! Hi-HI
i have also noticed my box has the capabilty or runs Dual systems ! OS I believe ? Which i have a feeling could be very handy in the future and with box updates etc . ???
I would appriecitate any supporting advice, knowledge & help with my adventures with this box, exploring and with android tv.
1. i Have a little understanding of rooting and what it allows. i believe my box maybe factory rooted from new
2. i know of the OTG PORT on my box and its used for programing ?
3. Need info on Roms, apps flashes and cfw possibly for this box
4. what to use and not to use
5. best configs and settings of bios and apps etc
6. Educating on porting & all the good stuff :fingers-crossed::highfive:
7. general informative information for a noob starting out, any pointers, information and advice will be very welcomed.
I dont expect this thread to prvide everything i need to know or learn as i believe im starting a long road of knowledge to come ( please be patient with me ). I will however try my best to obtain the knowledge i need along with your help & of others. .amy thanks in advance. TONY
** ALSO, I live in the UK, If this helps **
