How long did you decide about unlocking bootloader for your device - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Just some idea to get started! I've to decide for two days after I get this Xperia U and after unlocking, I feel great flashing kernels and CM Roms. But I was so afraid about warranty also. So how about you guys?

But when I unlocked it, I realized it is so much better !! With my next phone, no doubt I will unlock the bootloader within the next minutes I buy it !

First thing after I opened the package. It's kind of a habit. When I got my previous phones (HTC Desire, Galaxy Note), I installed CM on them before I even tried the stock software.

Before unboxing the phone i already generated the unlock key and unlocked the phone before the first boot, so i think it took less than 2 minutes to unlock and 2 seconds to decide to unlock it

Think it was about 4 months until the stock rom was doing my head in and I decided that CM9 was ready for daily use. Didn't bother me about warranty because it's not void anyway (in the UK at least unlocking bootloader doesn't void warranty).

It took me a good month or maybe more.
At first I was afraid of losing unrecoverable stuff, as everyone kept saying I would no longer be allowed to use sony software (for the record, TrackID and Walkman were the only ones I cared about).
My phone had no warranty, and if it ever had, those rats (carriers) wouldn't take responsability anyways. "Bravia Engine" didn't do anything noticeable to stuff so I though "hey, let's jump the gun!".
Got the code, unlocked it, and I swear it's one of the best things I've done despite all those negative comments
CM9 was still in alpha back then, so I had to work with sony's crap up until FXP announced a stable release. Then I flashed CM and couldn't be happier with it.
I don't own any of those 2012 devices, I own a Mini Pro, but it's all the same. I've unlocked lots of Xperias for some friends of mine.
BTW what's up with sony wiping all of our user data after unlocking the bootloader? Why! It sure made me have a bad time :-/

I've unlocked my Mini Pro as soon as the warranty period ended.
Best thing I've done. It's running 4.2 really smoothly!

Wcdma chip

Hi guys around october last year I bought my neo v, after a months use my 3g stopped working, I sent it of to sony for repairs and they replaced the WCDMA chip with is the 3g, the same problem has occured again. So know I have my bootloader unlocked etc I no longer have garranty or warranty, so I will have to get the chip fixed paying, last time it was done under warranty so I dont know the price! Does anyone have any idea how much this is going to cost?, also on the paper they gave me it listed as well as the chip, there was also 4 different type of screws. The phone has a 2 year warranty, if I was to relock bootloader and repair with sony updater would the warranty still be void? The 3g on my phonr has never been brilliant so I think its rubbish chip or something! Please does anyone have any suggestion or aswers? Thanks
Press thanks if I helped!

Just relock bootloader, flash it with fw for same region as you had before, take it to the repair center and play dumb, don't say nothing.
btw. I wouldn't call it rubbish chip as I never heard for that problem, ether you just didn't have luck or you downloaded really big amount of data via 3g

Thanks, I dont think its just a coincidence the chip is gone twice, I use my 3g daily but dont do many downloads just browse etc. As I said before its been repaired before, that repair had a warranty of 3 months because its the same problem will the warranty cover it again?

If you unlocked official than Sony has got the imei of you phone and they can see that your phone has got a unlocked boot loader. So they might say you have to pay for the repair. Just give it a try.
Relock your bootloader and use sus to flash a clean stock rom.

Block Bootloader?

Hi there, I have a doubt...
I've got the Sony Xperia LWW (wt19a), with the Locked Bootloader, if I unlock it, can I reverse the operation later?
Just in case of I don't like the new rom, and I want the smartphone go back like brand new...

mmm ok, I'm thinking to unlock it, because I like to test roms searching the best for this model...
I just hope my phone doesn't die in the try hehe..
Thanks for the quick answer!!
So dont want to be this bad but:
in varrancy is written that it can avoid you warrancy. What does this mean? For example if you have unlocked, changed kernel and rom and broke your camera in lww warrancy still exist. But it always depends of service.
What I know? They have paid more for repaired phone that send back to you
What else can I say? I had phone, broke screen ( hardware, my fault ). I talked with guy and he toke it in my provider saloon and sent. They repaired. What this mean? I think that they are repairing whatever they will get.
But they are only my checks. So now about bootloader. It gives a lot of possibilites and I think it is worth as our phones are cheap. And trust me have my phone about year and no issue. Installed a lot of kernels, roms and tweaks but works like a charm. I can say you that it could die only in unlocking bootloader. Later depends of your reading faqs and tuts. And dont panic when will be doing this. I almost fixed when unlocking but tried again with calm and all did good.
.
If Im wrong with the thread so I think all had been explained and thread can be close. If answers satifie you please change title of your first post to solved
actually it depends on the store,
if they decide to check on the bootloader by sony's site (some imei info would be there if unlocked officially)
then they may say that the warranty is void
or if they dont check it in detail, they may repair it under warranty,

Hello world! New Ultra Z owner (coming from Note 2)

Hi all!
Tomorrow I will receive my new phone and send away my beloved Note 2.
I have loved the note series but I was too pissed off with Samsung shying away from 6" and giving us a measly .18" display increase on the Note 3 so I decided to try something else.
I have been reading a lot and learning about accessories for the phone etc. And of course ready to root and try a ROM and OCing righaway.
So just wanted to say hi to my new community!

Nay, you need root to install recovery, but you can use recovery without unlocking your bootloader. You can't flash custom ROMs (CM/Omni/PA/modified stock) without unlocking it though.

Well, since you mentioned it, i'm not that sure anymore. If it's possible to flash a modified stock ROM with a locked bootloader, it doesn't include AOSP ROMs, since i know that you must have an unlocked bootloader to flash those because of signatures etc.
(Feel free to correct me, people!)

To elaborate, you can't use custom kernels with locked bootloaders. The signatures mismatch and thus, the ROM doesn't work. That includes AOSP kernels obviously.
Unlocked bootloaders don't check the kernel signature and thus, you can use custom kernels. ROMs have nothing to do with it. The 'custom' ROM being mentioned uses a stock kernel, so it can run on both LB and UB.
Basically,
Locked ---> Stock kernel from Sony only.
Unlocked ---> All kernels.

I too have come to the X Z U from a SG Note2. I had been contemplating the note3 but the region locking killed that idea.
Now the Note 2 seems ordinary size, and smaller phones like toys! And the XZU is definitely faster than the Note 2, even though the latter never felt slow.

20MP Superior auto?

i am a samsung user,i want to jump on to sony xperia z2 coz im tired of that boring design of samsung and now when i was comparing a demo at the store,z2 superior auto is less sharp to samsung 16mp auto, but 20mp was better than samsung in sharpness, but there overall appearance is not as cool as superior auto, dont know why, maybe we got to adjust some settings,so why isnt sony giving that 20mp superior auto,i dont care if it take 10mb pics or 20mb pics,i got a 64gb sd card, why arent they giving us that option? what is the use of 20mp if it doesnt take good pics? not all are camera pros to adjust all the setting like iso and **** for diff shots for diff lighting conditions, will they make it auto in future updates? btw i dont want to root my device if i get z2 and use mods for that ****
There is an Xposed module to enable 20MP in superior auto

Will try again later. For the record, my xreality stopped working after i unlocked, although some people say theres is fine. Not a big deal and i aint tried yet but apparently you can get it going again
unlocking your bootloader is safe so long as you folow the instructions

I'm willing to throw up $100 for the first Dev to unlock a locked bootloader on the Z2. I miss my AOSP ! Anyone else chipping in?
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
A non unlockable bootloader is not easily unlocked, it will take upto 2 years to unlock a single device so its pointless, and even then this unlock will only work on that device so no, no unlock
As for aosp roms, all we need is a third kernel in the system partition, its quite hard but done before and works fine when done

Can't you flash an AOSP based ROM if you use EasyRoot, install XZDualRecovery and then use TWRP/PhilZ to flash?
A bit off topic but.
Did i miss something in the android world - i have never had a sony device before (always used htc even before htcdev) but what changed once upon a time usually exploits came around in a matter of months not years. So did sony invent the ultimate protection system or something like that ?

"We have" found exploits for all fw for now...
All latest firmwares for all Xperia devices (Z,Z1(s and c) Z2 and all older devices could be rooted..
Z2 is 2-3 month old device and we have root method for all firmwares...
That doesn't have anything with custom ROMs or AOSP ROMs.
Locked bootloader is something totally diferent.
Locked bootloader is something Sony won't do , that's something requested by operators (mostly t-mobile) - Google it and you'll get it..
