Im pretty sure the kernel for the u20a is the same as the u20i, correct me if im wrong, but here is the default kernel ive got.
http://www.multiupload.com/UKWIV0GSTS
Just for my comprehension, as i am quite new to Android/Androiddevelopment: Is the stock kernel the one you have installed by default, when you buy a device? What's the benefits/what does one need a stock kernel? Is it because some roms state that an installation only works with the preinstalled kernel?
Thanks in advance,
aya.
Well I take it your already on a stock kernal, stock kernal is the one that came with your phone. What your reading is custom kernel, you need to unlock your bootloader first before you cam install a custom kernel. As your new to this I wouldn't use a custom kernel yet. Have you rooted your phone? Have installed any custom roms? You can still install a custom rom with a stock kernel, all the info is on the dev forum.

Ew. So this bootloader-thingy was the one where it's highly important to read and follow the instructions plus knowing what i'm doint for not bricking my device, right?
Yes, currently i'm on a MiniCM7 Pro V16. Currently i'm reading around, searching for the reason why i can't install a version 17-19, as it says "Can't open archive. Installation aborted (bad)", when i boot into recovery and try to install a .zip with version 17+.
Version 16 works fine. I also checked on my pc if the archive is maybe corrupt, but i can extract it without errors. Also redownloading didn't help.
Some guy wrote that this error can be because i still have a stock kernel. Another one wrote that it's probably because of the Clockwork Mod Recovery V3.x, as the higher MiniCM7 Pro versions require v4.x.
But the installation instruction says one should clear the caches and install the ROM to get the recovery 4.x installed. But i can't even start the installation, as it says "Installation aborted (bad)" when i try to run it.
So my guess was that this is maybe due to the fact that i'm still using a custom kernel, but i'm not sure. And i don't want to break my device
I guess you can try to install CMW recovery again since I've been always on stock kernel and updated every version of MiniCM7 easily, even the new versions with the new recovery. the roms don't necessarily need a custom kernel, there are versions for the stock one.
in the thread for MiniCM7 you find the instructions to upgrade the CMW, if you need, it's easy but read everything carefully.

Right so you have the basics of modding so may be its time to unlock your bootloader?
I've bricked my phone so many diffrent ways but I can always unbrick my phone through seus and pc companion.
Now I havnt tried installing v19 with out a custom kernel so not to sure if that's your problem but paul did say that it might be due to not using a custom kernel.

The same problem for me. I open a thread but i have no good answer. I asure you I tried with another custom rom and it does the same result, no flash phone. Another user tell me to try with another ROM and kernel, but i think it doesn't change much. I'll tell you when I flash it.

What going wrong on the flashing with custom rom, we have root, bootloader unlocked, the flash of the kernel is smooth so the flash of the rom (CWM don't report any error), but something going wrong, because after i reboot the phone after i flash the rom the NEO is stucked with loading Sony boot logo for very long time (I left my phone in this status for almost 30 min, and nothing happened). So Anyone can help us? Or is just our phone?

OK.
1st. Any roms starting max 5 minutes.!!!
If dont...then is problem in "kernel" or rom itself.
Something is wrong in updater script or build.prop
Or maybe something is wrong in my recovery? I use CWM, i install it with following the instructions in this thread

WIPE the stuff(system, data, cache, dalvik cache, whatever its written in ROM's first post) before flashing new ROM in zip.
In this case, most likely you didn't wipe/format system partition.
I follow the tips of kormatoes and integrated with the instrucions od madfish and everything is going fine, but there were some problems with that kernel, you kormatoes suggest me, so I tried to opt for the MT15i kernel, and its worked too.
Now I'm trying to install the KA05 Ice Cream Sony ROM, they say its the best custom rom based on ICS for Sony Xperia NEo. If something going wrong can you be at my side?

Folks, someone please help me out.
desperate situation here.
Xperia mini 15sti : rooted, unlocked bootloader, busyboxed, RecoveryX installed (version for 2.3.4) - firmware 4.0.42 version : gingerbread
None of the ROMs I've downloaded have worked so far. Everything results in an error or another. It is incredible how difficult I'm finding this to be.
CM10 : gives me assert errors. Saying its not smultron. I've removed the assert check in updater, then it starts giving me installation aborted after some time.
CM9 : same assert error
ParanoidAndroid : symlink errors during installation
AOKP : installation fails with set path something
I've spent countless hours on finding out the root cause of my problem - but given that everything fails, I am guessing there is something elementary that is missing (or wrong in my approach)
I'm on android gingerbread, and trying to jump to either JB or ICS nothing really works here (I follow the usual wipe data cache everything with every single install attempt so far. And then start with rooting flashing firmware back to 4.0.42, then recoverX, then new ROM etc)
please help

Did you unlock your bootloader? If you haven't unlocked your bootloader none of the above mentioned Roms will work with you. (after unlocking the bootloader you need to flash a custom kernel according to the Rom you are flashing, via fastboot).

Okay your bootloader is unlocked for sure. now let's get to the rom part. Download any custom Rom for st15i based on stock Sony Rom. Try to flash it in CWM recovery. And if it throws any errors then please reply with each and every letter it says in error in the recovery while flashing . ONLY FLASH A gingerbread Rom based on stock Rom! Eg: clean and tweaked Rom from serjar FOR GINGERBREAD.

Yes but he also said after removing assert check in updater-script also it shows some errors it must be probably status 7 errors because of windows style end of line conversion corrupted the updater-script .

Okay, let me tell step by step tell what should be done.
1. Flash rage kernel for gb (3.0)(fixed)
2. Download any stock based gb Rom for your device . For example , clean and tweaked gingerbread Rom by serjar. Place the rom zip in the root of your sd card.
3.Reboot into CWM recovery (included in rage kernel no need to flash CWM separately)
4. Do factory wipe from CWM.
5. Flash the Rom zip from CWM . In the example case it is clean and tweaked gingerbread Rom from serjar .
If flashing throws any errors then post the error here.

No I think notepad++ does that by default. What you need to see is that it didnt give any assert error, tried to install for a while .. and then gave the error : installation aborted
Secondly, I'm getting errors in every single ROM out here. Now trying the GB rom .. will post the results, and thanks for assisting so far mate

Update! Cyanogenmod 7.2 installed OK. So gingerbread is installing
Is it because of RecoverX then? Because while installing RecoverX it asks which version of xperia mini do you want - and I use android 2.3.4 - could it be the recovery not letting JB or ICS install then? Its 5.0.2.8 or something the one that I have
Pl let me know what to do next. cheers
Notepad doesn't change eol to Unix by default. After installing a prerooted kernel you don't have to use recovery x . after all that's the point in a preroot kernel! It comes with root and CWM recovery in built! Now what? Start flashing Roms, kernels and start exploring the infinite possibilities of android!
and hit the thanks button, it's more appreciated than typing thanks

For ICS or JB you don't need recoverx, if you use a custom kernel you can just flash the kernel and it has cwm inbuilt.
1. Just push the FXP cm10 zip for your device to sd card, flash the boot.img,
2. boot in cwm,
3. backup,
4. wipe data/factory reset,
5. install zip from sd card,
6. (if you want install the google apps=gapps) :good:
Problem was with CWM ... once I installed a GB custom ROM, the recovery was flashed to 6.0 something automatically
Every single ROM I tried to install after has worked flawlessly.
I have an xperia Mini, and it just doesnt work though, so I'm opening another thread on the overheating issue (which doesnt get solved no matter what you do)
thanks
Currently I have Legacy Xperia 10.1 installed on my Sk17i (Mini Pro) device. As per instructions in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2545367 it seems like we should first flash to stock then try flashing 11.0.
Is that really necessary or I can directly upgrade from 10.1?

If you ever flashed stock ICS rom, and later moved on to cm10, cm10.1 you don't have to reinstall stock ICS. You can install new cm11 kernel (via fastboot). Do the formatting as indicated and then flash cm11 rom.
IF HOWEVER you never flashed stock ICS you need first to flash it.
I hope this is clear. I upgraded this way and cm11 works like a charm.

Thanks, I already did that. I had once before flashed to 10.1. So, now I directly flashed to 11.0.
Flashing stock is required only for having the latest baseband. You can just download the baseband from here- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1707269 (Go with the latest one, i.e. , 77) an then flash but if you already have the latest one no need Also baseband is just 10-11 MB
Happy flashing

Hi,
i have xperia mini pro - sk17, with defective usb port (not functional at all (broken pins)). At the moment i have erro rom (05/08/2013) with lupus jb v7 kernel. I know that twrp recovery on my nexus 7 flashes kernel, but i always flashed kernels on xperia devices (x8, mini pro, ray) with flashtool after installation of rom.
Now i want to install another rom and my question are:
- will cwm flash kernel along with rom or not?
- what other roms can you recommend for use with lupus jb v7 kernel in case that new kernel (from roms zip) doesn't get flashed?
- can i flash .zip with only kernel inside (to change kernel after rom installation)?
- are there any other ways to flash kernel without usb?
thanks
no, xperia phone can't flash kernel from recovery.
even if theres kernel in rom zip it won't be flashed.

so maybe use LegacyXperiacm-10.1 or cm-10.2 by mikeioannina
