Handcent 5 problem - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I hate the new Handcent 5 version, but I'm getting used to it .
I can send and receive MMSs without any problems. But my problem is that when I receive (or send) an MMS with a picture, nothing happens when I tap on it in conversation view. In previous versions the picture used to open with my selected image viewer when I tapped on it, now absolutely nothing happens. I have to tap and hold on a picture so that a menu comes up and then select "View picture", then the picture opens in a strange viewer which I can't select, it's some kind of a built-in viewer I presume. I would like to tap on a picture to open it in my preferred viewer like before.
My device: HTC One X, Android 4.1.
Thanks for your help!

Sprint Touch Pro jumps to missed calls while typing a text.

This is the third one I've gotten with the same problem.
I've read through 11 pages of the forum and did a search but no one seems to have my problem.. however everyone I know who has a Sprint Touch Pro has the same issue.
I get a text, I tap the notification on the bottom Touch FLO 3D screen (the text icon with the yellow circle w/ # of txts that are new.)
I view the message.
I tap MENU at the bottom right. I tap reply. Slide open the keyboard, and begin typing the reply and the minute I type any key (sometimes specifically "R") it automatically flips to the call history screen and uses the last letter I typed to find related calls in my call log starting with the letter.
The same also applies if I press "NEW" on the TF3D screen and slide the keyboard open.
It takes whatever I message I was typing and throws it into drafts - which is now full of messages from all the attempts I've made to text and puts me into call history.
I called HTC about this - one person admitted to knowing about the problem but they said there is no fix - the next time I called they knew nothing about it.
This is just one of several issues I have with this phone. There MUST be a fix for this somewhere on here... HELP! ITS DRIVING ME INSANE!

The reason this is happening is simple. When you open the keyboard the cursor is not in the text box where you are going to type. So the moment you hit a key it starts to look up calls matching those letters. So to avoid this just tap into the text box then start typing. I don't know if there is a permanent fix for this so you don't have to tap in the text box.
The reason all of those messages are going into the drafts is really quite simple as well. Windows mobile saves your messages, text or email, which you are creating so that if the screen switches, i.e. a call comes through etc. you don't loose everything you have just typed.
If you do #1 you shouldn't have issues with #2.
Thanks for the reply - but it's not that simple. Half the time the cursor IS in the text box, it allows me to begin typing a message (reply or new) - however half way through the text (maybe the third word in) it throws my message into drafts and begins pulling up items in my call history or contacts.
I've tried "tapping the text box" to place the cursor - that didn't work either. Still does the same thing.
I miss my Mogul.. it never did this. If this can't get fixed I'm moving to the Palm Pre LOL.
I have this same problem
I have this problem too.
It is most annoying to be halfway through a txt or email and suddenly have it start searching through the contacts.
It isn't an issue of the cursor being in the wrong place. It just starts doing it randomly. I did notice less of a problem with it when I flashed a new ROM
My Fuze did this (as does my brother's Touch Pro) all the damn time. When I updated my phone it stopped. I think my brother's Touch Pro still does it quite frequently.
It's is EXTREMELY obnoxious. I tried contacting HTC directly, but they were not helpful. I was able to send probably 1 out of 3 messages without being interrupted.

[Q] Calling someone on your contact list

Hey Folks,
I've got a question about calling someone on your contact list. I've only found two ways to make a call:
1) Go to your phone book and press down on the contact for a second. This brings up a menu where you can select the option to modify the number before making a call. From there, just hit the call button.
2) Go to your phone book and tap on the contact and that takes you to an Info page. From there, you can tap the number and it will call. Not to complain about it, but this requires a bit of finesse. There's a TON of space on the screen to have a call button.
Is there something I'm missing? Neither of these options is any good.
1. Press the contact pic n you get a mini menu option to call, txt, it email
2. Download a dialer app-personally, I'm using dialer one. On contact list it has a green button by the name to call instantly. Also has smart dial function; so u can spell contact name using number pad and find contact
3. Create shortcut on home screen for ur fav contacts
1. Long press on homescreen
2. Choose shortcuts
3. Direct Dial
4. Choose the contact you want
5. If you want to call them, just tap on that shortcut from your homescreen directly
I put a bunch of my direct dial contacts in a folder so i can call them with 2 taps essentially

3rd party Gallery share no MMS?

Had my Tbolt (and I'm not rooted) a few weeks now and unhappy that the stock HTC Gallery doesn't let you share an image to MMS while the image is full screen. So I've been trying a few different gallery apps. While they seem to have much better share options, so far none of them include MMS. I've tried Fish Bowl Photo, Gallery 3D and Smart Gallery.
Is there a way to add Message (MMS) to the list of share options?
Never had this issue with my DInc and sad/suprised this is a problem on the Tbolt.
Tap the screen when the image is there, hit the double arrows button in the middle and choose messages.

LOL, awesome. I guess I was assuming it would have been the normal intuitive Menu button. I would have never figured that out accept by accident. Many, many thanks.

[Q] Remove "Home" on Direct Dial in ICS?

Kinda silly, but in ICS, when I make a shortcut with Direct Dial, it shows the label "Home" over the bottom-half of my contact's picture... 99% of my contacts only have one number anyway, so the "Home" title is useless & only blocks half their picture. Is there a way to remove this?
I have the bcm rom installed and I don´t know what you are running on your device.
I´ve found a little workaround:
When you long press on the shortcut you can customize it and change the Picture and the text is gone. But you have to do this for every shortcut.
Check the attached picture.

Images over MMS "play"

When someone sends me an image over MMS, if I tap it to view it full screen, it is still using only half the screen and has player controls at the bottom. It appears to have a 5-second play time. I cannot zoom or view the picture in the Gallery app or any other photo-viewing app, and I can't zoom in or scroll. The only way I can actually view it as an image is if I long-press the image, save it, then open it from ES Explorer, Gallery or similar app. This is the case with all pictures sent to me over MMS and from all senders. How do I turn this off so that the MMS app sees it as an image and not a 5-second movie?
By the way, I noticed this was the case with my S3 as well, so maybe this is more related to the Samsung SMS app than the Note II. Thanks.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to fix this issue, though I can confirm I have the same complaint about it. I have the feeling it has something to do with the Android text messaging app and how it handles attachments, and not so much how the Note 2 specifically handles them. I had this exact same issue with my Experia Play. It's an annoyance at worst to me, so I just ignore it, but if anyone knows of a workaround, I'd be glad to hear it!
